Glen M. Laylon, 79, of 4150 Bloomingrove Road died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at his home. He retired in 1986 from the former E. Keeler Co. He was a member of LeRoy O. Buck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7863, DuBoistown, and Glenn Sharrow Post 35, American Legion, Hughesville. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born Sept. 15, 1921, in Warrensville, he was a son of Charles Clifford and Ester Pettinger Laylon. Surviving are his wife, Mildred E.; two sons, Glen A. of Pennsdale and Eugene of this city; two daughters, Raymonde A. Brown of Lewistown and Lindsay Laylon of Muncy; eight sisters, Bernice Smith, Lloydanna Fluman and Ellen Winters, all of this city, Milly Fowler of South Williamsport, Doris Neidig of Cogan Station, Florence Fluman of Elmira, N.Y., Helen Fisher of Flemington and Norma Gearhart of Levittown; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald L., two brothers, Roy and Fred, and two sisters, Grace Laylon and Joan Sandell. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Elder Harlan Bower of Cogan House Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Friday.

Ethel L. Weaver
Ethel L. Weaver, 42, of Fort McCoy, Fla., formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Putnam Medical Center, Palatka, Fla. She and her husband, David J. Weaver, would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Dec. 7. She formerly was a nurses aide at Rose View Manor. Born Nov. 23, 1958, in Bradford County, she was a daughter of George H. and Mary L. Moesher Green. Surviving, besides her husband, are her father of Dillsburg; her mother of Jersey Shore; two sons, David J. Weaver and Jason C. Weaver, both of Fort McCoy; a daughter, Jeanetta M. Steppe of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, George of Salladasburg, Randy of Myscatine, Iowa, Dana of Rome, and Keith of Dillsburg; a sister, Marieca Cobb of Oxnard, Calif.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Arlene L. Lumbard
Arlene L. Lumbard, 61, of 750 W. Edwin St. died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. She was a homemaker. She liked to read and to write poetry. Born Aug. 6, 1939, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of Orion and Elizabeth Stewart Briel. Surviving are one son, Keith A. Lumbard of Verona, N.Y.; three daughters, Kathy L. Butsko of Fishkill, N.Y., Lisa R. English of South Williamsport and Nicole E. Boeckh of Las Vegas, Nev.; four brothers, Orion Briel Jr. of Auburn, N.Y., Nico and Robert Briel of this city and Daniel Briel of Cogan Station; two sisters, Carol Ashby of Wilmington, Del., and Sharon Caputo of this city; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Truly Ryan. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Dennis Otto of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Grant Leroy Hill
Grant Leroy Hill, 51, formerly of 115 Chiswick St. died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Sycamore Manor. He was employed at Industrial Fabrications for two years and had been employed by Simon Resources. He was a member of American Legion Post 1. Born June 20, 1949, in Lock Haven, he was a son of Charles E. Sr. and Catherine Alteria Hill. Surviving are three sons, Shawn C. of Montoursville, Dustin M. of Allentown and Christopher G. of Bethlehem; a daughter, Dennise M. of Tampa, Fla.; four brothers, Charles E. Jr. of Jersey Shore, John F. and Gary L., both of this city, and Larry E. of Cogan Station; two sisters, Betty L. Andrus of this city and Bonnie J. of Cogan Station; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James L., and a grandson, Sean David Hill. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. James A. Savage officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Lock Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Kurt W. McEwen
Kurt W. McEwen, 48, of 427 Hastings St., South Williamsport, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. He was retired from Shop-Vac. He was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church. He graduated from South Williamsport High School. He served with the 82nd Airborne. Born May 24, 1952, in this city, he was a son of Hayes A. and Emily C. Snyder McEwen. Surviving, besides his mother, with whom he lived, are a companion, Ann Kennedy of South Williamsport; two brothers, Hayes III of DuBoistown and Tracy of Lancaster. A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, with the Rev. William T. Anderson of Catawissa United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Sander’s, 821 Diamond St.

Martha E. Bailey
Martha E. Bailey, 93, of 1141 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the home of her son, Lawrence, at 400 Kane St., South Williamsport. Her husband, Lawrence, died Feb. 4, 1978. She was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith. She was a former member of American Legion Post 617 Auxiliary and a former member and past president of the Bald Eagle Chapter of the American War Mothers. Born April 1, 1907, in Millheim, she was a daughter of H. Charles and Mary A. Weaver Frankenberger. Surviving, besides her son, are two other sons, Charles H. and John E. of South Williamsport; four grandchildren, Lawrence F. II, Deborah E. Young, Charles E. and Eric D.; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a stepbrother, John F. Wilbur. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin of St. Mark Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Glenn E. Tressler
FLEMINGTON - Glenn E. Tressler, 60, of 19 Pineview Drive, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, while hunting near Loganton. He and his wife, the former Judith Kramer, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sept. 17. He was employed at Hammermill Paper Co. for 27 years and later worked for Norcen Industries, Jersey Shore. He was a member and deacon of the First Church of Christ. He was a 1958 graduate of Bald Eagle-Nittany High School. Born July 7, 1940, in Mill Hall, he was a son of Walter and Annabelle Allen Tressler. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Keith A. Tressler of Linden; two brothers, Walter Tressler of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Doyle Tressler of Mill Hall; a sister, Kathryn Wilkins of Lock Haven; and three grandchildren. A son, Scott, died in 1973. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Walker’s, 231 High St., with the Rev. Mark Riley officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township, Clinton County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Sylvia M. Brown
Sylvia M. Brown, 68, of Conklin, N.Y., a city native, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. Her husband, James, died in 1981. She was an Avon representative for many years. She was a member of Conklin Presbyterian Church. Born Aug. 9, 1932, she was a daughter of Glenn and Margaret Stahl Scott. Surviving are two sons, Glenn of Conklin, N.Y., and John of Bingahamton, N.Y.; two daughters, Pamela Bogdan of Apalachian, N.Y., and Margaret Mattucci of Jackonsville, Fla.; and one grandson. The funeral will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Chase’s, 44 Exchange St., Bingahamton, N.Y., with the Rev. Dr. Stephen W. Starzer officiating. Burial will be in Allenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday.

Raymond B. Burkhart
TROUT RUN - Raymond B. Burkhart, 81, of 9360 Wallis Run Road died there Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. He and his wife, the former Mazie J. Hess, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary Aug. 23. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years. He was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was an avid bowler. Earlier in life, he coached Brandon Little League and was a host for the Little League World Series. Born May 31, 1919, he was a son of George and Irene Brooke Burkhart. Surviving is his wife. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Greg Johnson of Newberry United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Marieta L. Farrer
MANSFIELD - Marieta L. “Peg” Farrer, 74, of this borough, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Her husband, John, died in 1994. She was a casework supervisor for Tioga County. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Corey Creek Golf Club. She was an avid bridge player. Born Dec. 5, 1925, in Middlebury, she was a daughter of Devilla and Luva Decker Goodwin. Surviving are three sons, Gerald and John, both of Mansfield, and James of Elmira Heights, N.Y.; a daughter, Linda Doud of Mansfield; two brothers, Chester Goodwin of Middlebury and G. Foster Goodwin; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Foster H. Gleason
WELLSBORO - Foster H. Gleason, 82, of this borough died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Green Home. His wife, the former Carrie R. Simmons, died Oct. 14, 1991. Retiring in 1960, he was employed by Corning Glass Works, Wellsboro Division. He attended Wellsboro Free Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion here, an honorary member of the Wellsboro Model Airplane Club and a former member of the Wellsboro Moose Lodge. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born March 4, 1918, in Delmar Township, Tioga County, he was a son of Henry W. and Ella Etta Hakes Gleason. Surviving are three sons, Thomas W. of Camp Hill, Foster P. Sr. of Elmira Heights, N.Y., and Henry W. of Rexford; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. Eugene A. Charsky officiating. Burial will be in Niles Valley Cemetery. Gene A. Glossner
BEECH CREEK - Gene A. “Hump” Glossner, 70, of this borough died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Myrmetta Heaton, would have observed their 49th wedding anniversary Dec. 26. He was retired from Camco Construction Co. He was a member of Beech Creek United Methodist Church. He was past commander of the Beech Creek American Legion post and a trustee of its home association. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Howard. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid hunter. Born April 13, 1930, in Blanchard, he was a son of Donald and Alice Peters Glossner. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Eric of Mill Hall; a daughter, Andrea of Beech Creek; four brothers, William of Beech Creek, Kenneth and Bruce of Flemington, and Richard of Mill Hall; five sisters, Ruth Jackman of Lock Haven, Phyllis Emenhizer of Flemington, Shirley Confer of Monument, Janice Saar of Avis, and Vickie Rhoads of Beech Creek; a granddaughter, Stacy Lamar Glossner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Dixson, and two brothers, Robert and Keith. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Helt-Hanna-Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Barbara Ammann officiating. Burial will be in Hayes Fearon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Dora V. Liegey
JERSEY SHORE - Dora V. Liegey, 82, of 121 Oak St. died there Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000. She and her husband, Howard J., observed their 51st wedding anniversary May 21. She retired from Cobblers here. Born May 9, 1918, in Vintondale, she was a daughter of David and Lydia Maines Shilling. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, David E. of Lock Haven, Mervin S. of Montandon and Stanley H. of Jersey Shore; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James D. Shilling. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., with the Rev. Tom Fetterolf officiating. Burial will be in Gillingham Cemetery, Clearfield, at the convenience of the family. The family will provide the flowers.

Edna Loughnane
NORDMONT - Edna Mae Swinehart Loughnane, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home, Montoursville. She was a waitress at Burdan’s Tavern in Dushore until 1970. Born May 11, 1910, in Pottstown, she was a daughter of Eugene B. and Edna B. Lightcap Swinehart. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. Arrangements are being handled by Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore.

LOCK HAVEN - Louis B. Rader, 77, of this city died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at home. He and his wife, Alma Rhine Rader, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary July 21. Retiring in 1986, he was employed for 38 years by Hammermill Paper Co. He was a former member of the Lock Haven First Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Lock Haven High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born here June 24, 1923, he was a son of William and Ethel McGregor Rader. Surviving, besides his wife, are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Carl and Edward. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Helt-Hanna-Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Michael Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Erma C. Sones
MUNCY - Erma C. Sones, 83, of 168 Robbins Road died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Muncy Valley Hospital. She and her husband, W. Paul Sones, owned and operated a custom poultry business for 35 years. He died in October 1975. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville. She was an honorary Keystone Farmer. She was a former member of Muncy Creek Community Volunteer Fire Co. ladies auxillary and Canasuargo Grange. She exhibited crafts at the Lycoming County Fair. Born Aug. 14, 1917, in Moreland Township, she was a daughter of James D. and Jennie Berger Ritter. Surviving are three sons, James A., Raymond P. and Dale R., all of Muncy; a daughter, Marilyn F. Bransteitter; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth M. Ritter. A private funeral will be Friday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., with the Rev. George E. Doran officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

May Wilson, 96, of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of this city, died there Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
