WELLSBORO - Doris R. Frantz, 77, of 39 Central Ave. died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. She and her husband, Harold E. Frantz, observed their 45th wedding anniversary Oct. 22. She was a homemaker and secretary for Nationwide Insurance here for many years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a eucharistic minister. She graduated from Spangler High School in 1941 and Cambria-Rowe Business School, Johnstown. She was a volunteer for Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. She was a Navy veteran of World War II. Born June 4, 1923, in Hastings, she was a daughter of Daniel R. and Anna Flynn Lovette. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Karl Frantz of Camp Hill; a daughter, Joanne Holland of Dryden, N.Y.; two brothers, Daniel Lovette of Camp Hill and J. Ralph Lovette of Lock Haven; a sister, Mimi Williams of Luthersville, Md.; five grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Central Avenue, with the Rev. Oscar W. Priset
MANSFIELD - Oscar W. Priset, 80, of this borough died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Dorothy J. Jelliff, observed their 21st wedding anniversary March 25. He retired from Corning Glass Works, Wellsboro Division, after 40 years. He owned and operated a farm and worked on a dairy farm in Marsh Creek. He was a member of Cherry Flats Baptist Church. He was a 1938 graduate of Wellsboro High School. Born July 12, 1920, in Marsh Creek, he was a son of Fred and Elizabeth Hittle Priset. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Dora Logan of Wellsboro and Joan Jones of Carlisle; a brother, Kenneth Priset of Marsh Creek; three sisters, Viola Swimelar of Wellsboro, Alice Mitchell of Covington and Ruth Mitchell of Horseheads, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings John, Joe and Geraldine Priset, Dorothy Boyden, Betty Wilson and Mary VanVliet. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro, with the Rev. Richard Krueger officiating. Interment will be in Wellsboro Cemetery. WELLSBORO - Ruth L. Kamerer, 84, of Wellsboro died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Jack W. Kamerer. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Tyoga Country Club. Born Aug. 4, 1916, in Clairton, she was a daughter of William and Kathryn Williams Smith. Surviving are two sons, Dennis of Clearfield and Jay D. of Covington; a daughter, Kathy J. MacTaggert of Butler; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Robert K. Greer officiating. Burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery. WELLSBORO - Norman I. Huck Sr., 70, a borough native, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Sara Learn, observed their 45th wedding anniversary March 26. He retired from Ward Foundry, Blossburg, and had been employed by Ingersoll-Rand, Painted Post, N.Y., and Dresser Rand. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Born Dec. 15, 1929, he was a son of Alvin J. and Clarinda Butter Huck. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Norman I. Huck Jr., at home, and Richard D. Huck of Wellsboro; a daughter, Sharon L. Anthony of Dallastown; two brothers, Alvin C. and Edward J., both of Wellsboro; four sisters, Thelma Rusak of Bath, N.Y., and Arlene Brown, Edna Johnson and Mary Heatwole, all of Wellsboro; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd, and a sister, Geraldine Cleveland. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. Brad Prouty officiating. May Wilson, 96, of 2480 N. Park Road, Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Watson Street, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Memorial Regional Hospital there. Her husband, Hiram Wilson, died in 1955. She and her husband operated Wilson’s store here for many years. She was a member of Temple Beth Ha Shalom, where she was a past president in the Temple sisterhood. Born Aug. 23, 1904, in Brownsville, she was a daughter of Simon and Ida Goldman. Surviving are one son, Frank of Montgomery, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with Marvin Hurwitz, congregation president, officiating. Interment will be in Temple Beth Ha Sholom Cemetery. Helen M. Bryan, 79, of Castanea died there Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000. She was the widow of Robert Bryan. She was employed at the Silk Mill and in the housekeeping department of the old Lock Haven Hospital. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and served with its Home League. Born July 31, 1921, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of Abraham and Eleanor Rider Engle. Surviving are a son, Charles E. of Castanea; a daughter, Ruth L. Mays of Williamsport; a brother, Paul of Montgomery; two sisters, Mable Sample of Castanea and Lois Engle of Lock Haven; four grandchildren, George, Pam, Geraldine and Tony; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; four brothers, David, William, George and Randall; and two sisters, Barbara and Geraldine. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Capt. and Mrs. Daniel Hilty officiating. AVIS - Grant E. Harter, 90, of Albany, N.Y., an Avis native, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at St. Peter’s Hospital there. He had been employed by the National Youth Association, the American Locomotive Co., Schenectady, N.Y., and the Iron Workers Union Local 12. He was a graduate of Williamsport Commercial College. Born Oct. 25, 1910, he was a son of Roy and Lottie Henry Harter. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Fedalia Burns, are two daughters, Diana Benedetto of Albany and Patricia Britt of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a brother, Gerald of Williamsport; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, William, and a sister, Bernadine Mantle. The funeral will be at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Hans’, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, and 9 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary’s Church, Homestead Street, Albany. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. MILL HALL - Betty Sarah Masterson, 79, of this borough, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital, where she was admitted Sunday. She and her husband, Harry C., observed their 57th wedding anniversary Jan. 4. Retiring in 1961, she was a telephone operator for 22 years at Piper Aircraft, Lock Haven.
She was a member of United Lutheran Church, Lock Haven. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Lock Haven High School. Surviving, besides her husband, are a brother, Robert Bauman of Mill Hall; and three sisters, Evelyn Kishpaugh of Bala Cynwyd, Jessie Southard of Rochester, N.Y., and Gloria Kress of Goshen, Ohio. A private service will be in Highland Cemetery, Lock Haven, at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Marilyn E. Haseman officiating. There will be no visitation. WATSONTOWN - Kathryn D. Crawford, 90, formerly of this borough, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Muncy Valley Hospital. Her husband of 37 years, Ralph E. Crawford, died Dec. 6, 1969. Retiring in 1975, she was employed for 10 years at the former Montgomery Mills. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville. Born May 18, 1910, in Lewis Township, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of David W. and Elmira Mincemoyer Aunkst. Surviving are a son, Walter E. Crawford of Turbotville RR 2; eight daughters, Emily M. Gotschall, Lena M. Hall, Isabelle K. Crawford and Nancy K. Rice, all of Watsontown, Margaret E. Miller of Hughesville, Miriam P. Neufer of Muncy, Mildred M. Yoder of Lock Haven, and Beverly A. Heverly of Watsontown RR 2; a brother, David Fowler “Pete” Aunkst of Lewisburg; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Marlin O. Crawford on March 13, 1992, and Gene L. Crawford on July 22; two daughters, Marion L. Hall on Oct. 5 and another who died in infancy; a brother, William Aunkst; and a sister, Mary Crawford. COVINGTON - Frank K. Minyo, 58, of this borough died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. He was employed by Trayer’s Foundry in Elmira, N.Y. He was a member of William B. Wilson American Legion Post 572, Blossburg. He was involved in the Covington Township Planning Committee. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Born April 8, 1942, in Glendale, W. Va., he was a son of George and Kathryn Kossuth Minyo. Surviving are a son, Jeff Minyo of Covington; a daughter, Wendy Milano of Clinton, Conn.; a sister, Jan Daniberg of Lafayetteville, N.Y.; and two granddaughters, Michaela Milano and Rayna Minyo. LOCK HAVEN - Lillian E. Sohmer, 87, of this city died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital. She was employed 50 years by the former General Armature. She was an avid walker. Born March 10, 1913, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Frank and Mary Ellen Ross Sohmer. Surviving are her caregiver, Emily Sohmer of Lock Haven; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Helt, Hanna, Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Wayne Hixon officiating. Evelyn M. Smith, 67, of Valley View Nursing Home, Montoursville, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Dec. 17, 1932, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Earl and Julia Irvin Smith. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Kathryn S. Balliet
MUNCY - Kathryn S. Balliet, 92, a resident of Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for five years, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2000. Her husband of 57 years, Domer F., died June 24, 1985. She was a member of Muncy Baptist Church. Born July 20, 1908, in Milton, she was a daughter of J. Harry and Eva Guffy Tate. Surviving are two sons, John H. of Mary Esther, Fla., and Ralph D. of Muncy; two daughters, Phyllis B. Odell of Hughesville and Kay A. Wertz of Muncy; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Donald and James Balliet, three sisters and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, West Penn and South Market streets, with the Rev. D. Gene Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Nancy J. Staccone, 67, of 720 Pennsylvania Ave. died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Roseview Center. Her husband, Michael A., died Dec. 18, 1989. She had been employed by Sylvania. She was a member of Church of the Ascension. She was a graduate of Centre Hall High School. She was a member of the South Williamsport Lioness Club and South Williamsport Senior Citizens. She enjoyed square dancing. Born May 6, 1933, in Katonah, N.Y., she was a daughter of Clarence A. and Florence M. Kline Michael. Surviving are a brother, George H. Michael of Lewistown; and a sister, Cora E. Barnes of Granville. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, 2101 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. H. LaRue Seid, 86, of Clifton Springs, N.Y., formerly of Muncy, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000. The widower of the former Roberta Cline, he and his second wife, the former Florence Converse, observed their 11th wedding anniversary in October. Retiring in 1977, he was employed at Carey-McFalls for 10 years. He was a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, Muncy, and Rose Baptist Church in New York. He was a member of Captain John Brady Grange. He was involved in the Boy Scouts. He was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Muncy. Surviving, besides his second wife of Clifton Springs, are two sons, Melvin Sharrow of Ontario and Steve Seid of Benton; three daughters, Evelyn Dayton of North Rose, N.Y., Gail Sharrow of Clifton Springs, N.Y., and Lela Sharrow of Farmington; four grandchildren for whom he was the legal guardian, Raymond S. and Phillip J. Secrist, Roberta L. Secrist-Turner and Lisa E. Secrist-Hanner; and had several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, and a sister, Susan Corbett. She and her husband of 46 years, Bryce E., had owned Elm’s Tavern here. Born here Feb. 17, 1922, she was a daughter of Harry and Harriet Phillips Spencer. Surviving, besides her husband, are three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Stanley S. Wood. A private service will be at the convenience of the family.
