Marjorie L. Seagraves, 72, of New Port Richey, Fla., a city native, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at North Bay Medical Center there. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey D. of Etters; a sister, Arlene Bair of South Williamsport; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Michelle Seagraves.
Robert H. Wool
Robert H. Wool, 71, of 41 Ross St., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Manor Care South. He was retired from the Williamsport Hospital. He was of the Christian faith.
Born Oct. 29, 1929, in this city, he was a son of Harvey and Mildred Fox Wool. Surviving are a brother, Harvey “Jack” Wool; and a sister, Louise Braught of Clearfield. A private service will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
LaVerne E. Stroble
LaVerne E. Stroble, 72, of 1843 Walters Road, Montoursville, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at home following an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Kathryn Jodon, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary Sept. 21. He retired in 1990 after 32 years at the former Mid-Penn Magazine in Loyalsock Township. He was a member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee. He was a 1946 graduate of Montoursville High School. He was a member of the Albert Rod and Gun Club, North Bend, and the Wheel Inn. He served on the Rose Valley Cemetery Association. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Born May 5, 1928, in Rose Valley, he was a son of Elmer H. and Rheta C. Sellers Stroble. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, R. Kevin Stroble of Hughesville; a daughter, Lisa M. Ulmer of Montoursville; two sisters, Marietta Johnson of Cogan Station and Shirley Crouse of this city; and two grandchildren, R. Nile and Tyler S. Ulmer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Stroble, a brother, Nile Stroble, and a half brother, Robert Sellers. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, Warrensville Road, Montoursville, with the Rev. Jerry A. Cline officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rose Valley Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will provide the flowers. Paul H. Badger
Paul H. Badger, 89, of 101 Leader Drive died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Manor Care South. His wife, the former Martha E. Chambers, died March 19, 1978. He retired as superintendent of maintenance from Alcan Cable. Previously, he was supervisor of maintenance for the former Sweets Steel Co. in this city. He was a member of South Williamsport Larger Parish United Methodist Church and previously was a member of the former Christ United Methodist Church of South Williamsport. He was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School. He was a lifetime member of Nisbet Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting. Born Jan. 19, 1911, in Mifflinburg, he was a son of Robert and Vestia M. Yeisley Badger. Surviving, are a foster daughter, Janice M. Follmer of Montoursville; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Corene A. Shuman; a son, James Badger; a sister, Florence Johnson; and a grandson, James Badger Jr. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Noll’s, 1 East Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. R. Edward Cope officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday.
Besse R. Jeskie
Besse R. Jeskie, 83, of this city died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Williamsport Home. She and her husband, John S., observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 2. A registered nurse, she had worked in obstetrics at Divine Providence Hospital for 20 years, then worked at Doctor’s Nursing Home, Selinsgrove and Nottingham Village in Northumberland. She was a member and former choir member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was a 1935 graduate of Williamsport High School and a graduate of Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing in New Brunswick, N.J. She was an accomplished artist, published poet and master of music. Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Newton and Wilbertha “Byrd” Barndollar Richards. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Dr. John of Scottsville, Ky., Peter of Eagle River, Alaska, and Thomas of Harriman, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathleen Lauchle of Harrisburg; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., with the Rev. Kraig L. JERSEY SHORE - Donald C. Rhinehart Sr., 62, of Jersey Shore RR died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Jersey Shore Hospital. He was employed by Cammerer Farms and Doebler’s Hybrid. He previously worked at Hammermill and Susquehanna Transit. He was a member of Garman Lutheran Church, Pine Creek. He was a 25-year member of the Avis Volunteer Fire Co., where he currently served as Lieutenant of Fire Police. He was a member of Clinton County Fire Police and the Avis American Legion. He enjoyed bowling as a member of Doebler’s bowling team at the Jersey Shore YMCA. He served in the Air Force and Army National Guard. Born Dec. 1, 1938, in Avis, he was a son of Edward and Emma Huffman Rhinehart. Surviving are his companion, Ann Dashner of Jersey Shore; two sons, Donald Jr. of Jersey Shore and Keith of Huntingdon; three brothers, Earl Rhinehart of Loganton, Russell and Robert Rhinehart, both of Avis; three sisters, Irene Whitman and Colleen Shields, both of Jersey Shore, and Thelma Robinson of Lemont; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Ernie, and two sisters, Grace Bower and Shirley Rogers. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Logan officiating. Mary Ann Sommers, 58, of Mechanicsburg died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Loudoun Hospital Center, Leesburg, Va. She was a city native and sister of two area residents. She was employed as a nanny for her granddaughter and was previously employed by Peirce Phelps, Camp Hill. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. Born Feb. 13, 1942, she was a daughter of Leo and Caroline Cline Korizno. Surviving are her husband, Thomas C.; a daughter, Theresa L. Carroll of Ashburn, Va.; a brother, Joseph Korizno of West Milton; two sisters, Caroline Lyaski of Olean, N.Y. and Leona Randello of this city; and a granddaughter, Maria Ann Carroll. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Joseph M. Pease and Rev. Chester P. Snyder officiating. WATSONTOWN - Kathryn M. Huff, 84, of 503 Main St., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She and her husband, Laird W., observed their 52nd wedding anniversary July 4. She was a seamstress and retired from Fox Knapp in Milton. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Milton where she was a choir member, youth advisor, Sunday school teacher, bowler on the church team, and involved with many activities at the church. She was a 1935 graduate of Milton High School. She was active with the Yokefellow Prison Ministry and the Watsontown Guild. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club. Born April 12, 1916, in Milton, she was a daughter of Hugh and Emma Trate Stevenson. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Cyrus H. Huff of Watsontown; two daughters, Emma Zeager and Rachel Zeager, both of Danville; two sisters, Evelyn Marks of Milton and Dorothy Burger of Lewisburg; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Lawrence, Franklin, and Robert, and a granddaughter, Bonnie Allison. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. John S. Born Feb. 17, 1900, she was a daughter of Joseph A. and Katherine McLaughlin Sartori. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Anna Sartori, of this city; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Joseph. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., with the Msgr. Claire A. Newcomer, 98, of Manor Care South, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000. She was the widow of Chester P. Newcomer. Born Nov. 17, 1902, in Northumberland, she was a daughter of Robert and Kathryn Sampsell Hopewell. Surviving are two brothers, Elwood Hopewell of this city and William Hopewell of Danville; and one sister, Nina Bresaz of Jersey Shore. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. David Reinwald officiating. Private burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
Louise S. Webster
Louise S. Webster, 93, formerly of 44 Ross St. died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Rose View Manor. Her husband, Charles Williamson, died in 1946. Retiring in 1970, she was a clerical worker for the State Welfare Department for 23 years. She was a life member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Williamsport High School. Born April 26, 1907, in this city, she was a daughter of George Edward and Jane Hill Schaefer. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Harbach of this city and Margaret Walters of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Williamson Webster. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the church, 142 Market St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Nelson D. “Nelt” Cease
CANTON - Nelson D. “Nelt” Cease, 91, of Lycoming Street died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in Towanda Memorial Hospital. He and his wife, the former Cleo Fuller, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary July 21. He worked with the Local 810 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union of Williamsport. Previously, he worked for Benson’s Plumbing and Heating in Canton and as a cook for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 20 years. He was a member of Canton Church of Christ. He attended Canton High School. He was a member of Minnequa Grange 754. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, camping, woodcrafts, and cooking for hunting clubs, locally and out west. Born Sept. 26, 1909, in Canton, he was a son of Willard and Edith Moore Cease. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Norman Cease of Chelmsford, Mass. and Willard Cease of Canton; a daughter, Sharon McNett of Blossburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lafferty, in 1995. Funeral and burial are private. Family members may call at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. SONESTOWN - Glen Charles, 81, of this borough, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Mildred Hacker, observed their 58th wedding anniversary this year. Retiring in 1984, he was employed for 17 years by Proctor and Gamble, Mehoopany. Previously, he was employed by Marquardt Brothers Lumber Company, Muncy Valley. He was a member of Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley. He was a member of Nelson Armes American Legion Post #601, Sonestown. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born July 9, 1919, in Benton, he was a son of Oscar E. and Katie M. Mott Charles. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, William of Williamsport; three daughters, Marilyn Brown of Shunk, Cheryl Streisel of Reedsville and Belva Ream of Lebanon; one sister, Ruth Robbins of Hughesville; six grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. George Kibbe, his former pastor, officiating. NEW COLUMBIA - Carl A. Danley Sr., 56, of this borough, formerly of Sunbury and Williamsport, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Ruth L. Shutt, were married in 1986. He was a truck driver and worked for Mark Cromley’s Septic Service of Lewisburg. He attended Sunbury schools. He was a life member of LeRoy O. Buck Veterans of Foreign Wars of DuBoistown and Fraternal Order of Eagles 503, Sunbury. He was a member of Hummels Wharf Fire Company and American Legion. He was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam war. He was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working with cars. Born Aug. 5, 1944, in Sunbury, he was a son of Earnest, Sr. and Grace M. Harner Croffut. Surviving, besides his wife and mother, are two sons, Joseph and Carl A. Jr. of Montoursville; two daughters, Lisa Danley of Williamsport and Leona McErn of Montoursville; four brothers, Earnest Jr. in Florida, Benjamin in Texas, Theodore of Sunbury RR and Elmer of Northumberland RR; two sisters, Grace Ellen Rebuck of Paxinos and Zean Adams of Gowen City; one adopted brother, Mark Roadarmel in Fla.; two half-sisters, Mildred Deivert and Josephine Graybill, both of Sunbury RR; nine step-children; six grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. A graveside service and burial with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Muncy Cemetery, with the Rev. David H. Pickett officiating. There will be no visitation. Robert A. Ellis
CANTON - Robert A. Ellis, 90, of this borough died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Sherwood Retirement Home. Retiring in 1976, he owned the Jewel Coal Co. and drove lime trucks for Canton Agway. Previously, he owned a coal-hauling business in the Milton area. He attended the Grover schoolhouse. After completing the eighth grade, he went to work for Swayze Folding Box Co. He was a member of the former Canton United Methodist Church, the Canton Ecumenical Parish and the I.H.S. Adult Class. He was a member of Canton Lodge 103 I.O.O.F. and was a past Noble Grand. He enjoyed board games. Born Sept. 21, 1910, in Grover, he was a son of Orson and Mae Allyn Ellis. Surviving are a son, Clyde of Winterstown; a daughter, Leora Wilcox of Canton; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, the former Gladys Watts; his second wife, the former May Figary; two brothers, Glen and Edwin; and two sisters, Marian Snyder and Pauline Ellis. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Morse & Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St., Canton, with the Rev. Nancy Lee Goff officiating. Private burial will be in Grover Cemetery.
