The funeral is today for Stella Arms Perkins of Eldersburg, Md., the mother of a city woman, who died Monday Dec. 11, 2000, in the Carroll Lutheran Health Care Center, Westminster, Md. Her husband, the Rev. Alvin T. Perkins, died April 29, 1983. She was a member of the Wards Chapel Methodist Church. Born Jan. 19, 1906, in Horatio, Ark., she was a daughter of Morris H. Arms and James Louis Park. Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Grimes of Westminster, Md., Janet Feezer of Eldersburg, Md., and Phyllis Maneval of this city; six grandchildren, Stephen L. Colyer, Philip R. Colyer, Levi Knight, Deborah Reed, Craig Maneval and Thomas Maneval; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at Haight’s, Eldersburg, Md. Burial will be in the Wards Chapel Cemetery, Wards Chapel, Md.
Gladys Runyon
Gladys Runyon, 84, of Phillipsburg, N.J., formerly of Watsontown, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg. Her husband, Malvin, died Dec. 17, 1983. Retiring in 1971, she was an elementary school teacher for 36 years, and taught at South Orange School District. She was an organist at Watsontown United Methodist Church. She was certified at Lock Haven University, earned a bachelors’ from Penn State University and a masters’ from Columbia University. Born May 25, 1916, in Dauphin County, she was a daughter of Ralph and Verna Crouse Williams. Surviving are two step-daughters, Carole Howe of Berkley Heights, N.J. and Patricia Gahm of Springfield, N.J.; several stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Williams. The funeral was at 7:30 p.m. yesterday at Noto-Wynkoop’s, 289 S. Main St.,Phillipsburg. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

Helen L. Shuman, 77, of Old Rt. 15, Cogan Station, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. She was employed by Cobblers as a machine operator. She attended Faith Christian Church and The Living Church. Born March 8, 1923, in this city, she was a daughter of Fred W. and Mary E. Hipple Henry. Surviving is a sister, Mary J. DeParasis of St. Petersburg, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Shuman. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Don L. Baker officiating. WATSONTOWN - George A. Silverman, 83, of Liberty Terrace, formerly of White Deer, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at RiverWoods in Lewisburg. His wife, the former Ethel I. Krouse, died June 16, 1993. He was employed by Philco Ford-Zenith as a boiler operator and with maintenance for over 30 years. He was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church in White Deer. He was a member of the Senior Centers in Watsontown and New Columbia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born Jan. 20, 1917 in Sunbury, he was a son of Blaine W. and Carrie Kemp Silverman. Surviving are a son, George B. of Lewisburg; a daughter, Linda I. Johnson of New Columbia; four sisters, Isabele Scholvin and Evelyn Scholvin, both of Northumberland and Raydelle Long and Doris Arnold, both of Sunbury; six grandchildren, George C. Silverman, Nancy Boyd, Rebecca Silverman, Jennifer Junker, and Shawn and Adam Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William, and two sisters, Catherine Irene Kerstetter and Hazel Hankey. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Charles T. Tressler officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post #182, Lewisburg. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam. Harriett S. Smedley, 76, of 915 Pearl Blvd., Montoursville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at home. Her husband, William J., died June 8, 1993. She was retired from the Montoursville Area High School cafeteria. She was a graduate of Montoursville High School. Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Mifflinburg, she was a daughter of Harry A. and Wiletta Shaffer Miller. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia L. Karschner of Montoursville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Fenstermacher; a brother, Franklin Miller; and two sisters, Annabelle Miller and Frances Peterman. The funeral will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Dr. Donald H. Smith
Dr. Donald H. Smith, 61, a city native, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School and Lehigh University, Bethlehem. He had a doctorate from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and completed residency at Lankenau Hospital there. He retired from Easton Hospital in 1997, where he was chief of the Division of General Surgery, president of the medical staff and director of surgical education. He had been president of the Northampton County Medical Society, Weller Center for Health Education and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He was a veteran of the Air Force Reserve. He was a board member of the United Way, Northampton County, a member of the Easton Rotary Club and vice president of the Eagles Mere Country Club. Born Aug. 15, 1939, he was a son of Dr. J. Stanley and Eleanor Mussina Smith. Surviving are his wife, Nancy of Eagles Mere; three sons, Greg of Columbia, S.C., Jeff of Columbia, Mo., and Eric of Philadelphia; and a brother, J. Stanley. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Easton, with the Rev. James L. Gill officiating. Burial will be in Eagles Mere Cemetery. A memorial service will be in the spring in Eagles Mere. Arrangements are being handled by Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore.
Ruth G. Smith
Ruth G. Smith, 91, formerly of Hughesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit, Muncy. Her husband, Willis A., died Nov. 22, 1983. She was a dairy farmer in Rome. She attended Betheny United Methodist Church in Hugesville. She attended a one-room school in Strawbridge. Born Oct. 10, 1909 in Unityville, she was a daughter of Hurley E. and Stacia Mae Stackhouse Myers. Surviving are three sisters, Harriet J. George and Eleanor L. Flick of Hughesville, and Gladys K. Sherwood of Unityville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar M., Donald L., and LaRue; and two sisters, Helen Newman and Leona Secules. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday at McCardy-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Bethany A. Wood presiding. Burial will be in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Hughesville. HUGHESVILLE - Charles B. Stutzman, 73, of 525 Broadway, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000 at Williamsport Hospital. He was a carpenter and cabinetmaker. Born May 22, 1927 in Dallastown, he was a son of Gifford P. and Edna Reichard Stutzman. Surviving are two sons, Charles G. of Williamsport and Robert L. of Muncy; one daughter, Mary L. of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, Jack of Mifflinburg; a sister, Ester Gray of Hughesville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven D.; and a sister, Leah Banghart. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with the Rev. Word has been received of the death of Sara Steppe, 78, of 1421 Christine Ave., Anniston, Ala., who died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. Surviving are her husband, Eugene B., formerly of this area; two sons, Mike of Birmingham, Ala., and Kenny of Choccolocco, Ala.; a daughter, Mandi King of Oxford, Ala.; a sister, Dora Lee Bell of Anniston, Ala.; seven grandchildren. Burial was in Forestlawn Gardens.
Bessie I. Tallman
Bessie I. Tallman, 86, of Cogan Station died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Williamsport Home, where she had been admitted earlier that day. Her husband, George H. Tallman, died May 28, 1988. She retired from the housekeeping department of Williamsport Home in 1979. She was a charter member of Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church. She was a member of Heshbon Park Senior Citizens. Born June 27, 1914, in this city, she was a daughter of Frederick Glosser and Margaret Euphemia Moore German. Surviving are two sons, Richard W. of Raleigh, N.C., and Harold D. of Muncy; a daughter, Carol A. Rook with whom she lived; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and three sisters. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, 1301 Clayton Ave., with the Rev. Ronald O. Doan, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Leonard Allen “Butchie” Williams Jr., 29, of Tulsa, Okla., grandson of a city woman, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000. Born Jan. 11, 1971, in Sunbury, he was a son of Leonard A. Sr. and Shirley Kay Nelson Williams. Surviving, besides his parents, are a brother, Brett of Tulsa; four sisters, Lori Vanderlinden and Tami, Lisa and Misty Williams, all of Tulsa, and Dawn Belflower of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a grandmother, Lillian Nelson of this city. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Tulsa. Arrangements are being handled by Ninde’s, 3841 S. Peoria Ave., Tulsa.

Eugene I. Yoder, 60, of Barberton, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at home. He was a retired truck driver for CR Crane and Rigging Co., Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member of Christian Church in Cogan Station and Grace Church, Norton, Ohio. Born April 10, 1940, in Belleville, he was a son of David J. and Pauline E. Hostetler Yoder. Surviving are a son, David Yoder of Montoursville; two daughters, Becky Combs of Norton, Ohio and Jeri Confer of this city; a step-son, Jeff Williams; a step-daughter, Angie Smith; two brothers, Harry R. “Bud” of this city and Herbert L. of Estes Park, Colo.; a sister, Barbara J. Egan of York; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. “Wally” Yoder. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Baggus’, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, with the Rev. John H. Yonkin
DUSHORE - The funeral is Saturday for John H. Yonkin, 74, a Dushore native who died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000. His first wife, Josephine A. McMahon, died April 11, 1991. He was a partner in McDonald Radio & Electric and had an oil burner service company. He was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion 996 and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 163. He was an assistant chief of the Dushore Fire Department and a member of the Dushore Borough Council and Dushore Sewer Authority. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School in 1944. Born April 11, 1926, he was a son of Arthur W. and Mary McDonald Yonkin. Surviving are his second wife, the former Marjorie Kracoskie; four sons, Lawrence J. of Painted Post, N.Y., Thomas P. of Sayre, Francis J. and John T. of Dushore; one daughter, Kathryn Brown of Somers, Conn.; one stepdaughter, Marie Bonanni of Dushore; three stepsons, Michael J. McDonald of Muncy Valley, Mark J. McDonald of Williamsport, and Richard L. McDonald of Carlisle; one brother, Arthur A. of Dushore; two sisters, Kathleen A. of Williamsport and Clare Quigg of Danville; 14 grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Thomas P. Morgan McDonald; three sisters, Ann Tourscher, Agnes Haley and Mary Elizabeth McMahon. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Homer’s, 206 Water St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with his pastor, the Rev. Michael B. Amos W. Martin, 90, of 333 Ertel Road, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Fullmer’s Personal Care Home. He and his wife, the former Kathryn Campbell Fulmer, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Nov. 27. He was a literature evangelist for the Seventh Day Adventist Church for 22 years. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Born April 24, 1910, in Goodville, he was a son of David S. and Annie R. Witmer Martin. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Glenn of Garland, Texas and Kenneth of this city; a daughter, Ruth Grentz of Nashville, Mich.; two stepsons, Richard and Thomas Fulmer, both of this city; three stepdaughters, Katherine DeVito of East Greenville, Linda Whalley of Danville, Va. and Graye Hockman of this city; two brothers, Lewis Martin of Pottstown and Stanley Martin in North Carolina; two sisters, Marie Turmine of Traveneer, Fla. and Sadie Ott of Greater Ford; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Clyde Martin; a son, Roger Martin; and three brothers, David, Willis and Jim Martin. Helen M. Dymeck
Helen M. Dymeck, 78, of 1212 Pearl Blvd, Montoursville, formerly of the 1600 block Richards Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. Her husband of 51 years, George F., died Aug. 9, 1997. Retiring in 1985, she was employed for 20 years with the former GTE Sylvania. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Born Dec. 12, 1922, in this city, she was a daughter of Herman and Lena Campbell Stryker. Surviving are a son, David G. Sr. with whom she resided; three grandchildren, David and Christie Dymeck, and Nancy Baloga; and three great-grandchildren. A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Crouse’s, 133 East Third St. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, 313 Arch St., with the Rev. Andrew J. Krusinski officiating. Carolyn Nearing Walter
WELLSBORO - Carolyn Nearing Walter, 99, of this borough, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the Green Home. She retired in 1963 from the Williamson Junior/Senior High School, after 23 years as a teacher. She was a member of Tioga Presbyterian Church, was president of the Women’s Association, played the piano and sang in the choir. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1918 and attended Mansfield Normal School. She enjoyed photography and rock collecting. She was born in 1901 in Tioga. Surviving are two sons, Charles B. of Perkasie and Fred L. of Ephrata; a daughter, Linda Walter Nesbitt of LaGrange, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tioga. Friends may call at Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
