AUSTINVILLE - Walter Arthur Sawyer Jr., 68, of this borough, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at home. He was an income tax preparer for more than 30 years. Born Feb. 14, 1932, in Springfield Township, he was a son of Walter A. and Ina Evans Sawyer Sr. Surviving are a brother, Thomas H. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and four sisters, Irene T. Jabore of Elmira, N.Y., Leona S. Garrison of Troy, Marie P. Sherman of Columbia Cross Roads, and Bonnie Ritchie of Louisville, Ky. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Vickery’s, 110 W. Main St., Troy, with the Rev. Kenneth Marple, pastor of Austinville Union Church officiating. Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luther Mills. Robert Brewer
WATSONTOWN - Robert Brewer, 60, of Danville RR 1 and a former resident of South Williamsport, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Denver, Colo. A driver for Watsontown Trucking Co., Brewer was stricken upon arrival at the Denver terminal and passed away shortly thereafter. He and his wife, the former Donna Prowant, were married for 13 years. Born April 19, 1940, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Brewer was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Special Services Force. In addition to his wife, surviving are a son, Kevin, of Bloomsburg; two grandchildren; two step-daughters, Brenda Hess of Williamsport and Eva Botts of South Williamsport; a step-son, Kerry Moser of Riverside; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Lennie, of Danville, Va.; and a sister, Charlotte, of New Jersey. A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Barr’s in Watsontown.
Ronald M. Gilbert
Ronald M. Gilbert, 66, of 1202 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Manor Care South following an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Rose Illes, observed their 41st wedding anniversary Oct. 1. He was employed by Rogers’ Huber & Associates as an enrolled agent for the last four years. He was also self employed as an enrolled agent representing clients before the internal revenue service. He was a member of South Williamsport United Methodist Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Montoursville High School. He was a member of the PA Society and National Association of Enrolled Agents and a member of the National Society of Tax Professionals and the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation. He served on the Board of Directors of PA Society of Enrolled Agents and was a former Notary Public. He was a member of the American Legion Post #617, South Williamsport. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. Born Nov. 6, 1934, in Danville, he was a son of Meryl A. and Dorothy C. Reilly Gilbert. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother of Montoursville; a son, Ronald M. Jr. of Coudersport; two daughters, Rose Lynne of South Williamsport and Dottie J. James of Bloomsburg; five brothers, Joseph W. of Pine Grove Mills, Thomas A. of Port Richey, Fla., Robert L. of Reading, Richard M. of this city, and James W. of Montoursville; two sisters, Eleanor L. Williamson of Unityville and Nancy J. Thompson of Huntingdon; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, David A. Gilbert. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, 1422 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. C. Edward Cope officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Kenneth Wheeler
Kenneth Wheeler, 52, of Fayetteville, Ga., a city native, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000. Born Dec. 6, 1948, in this city, he was a son of Joseph and Mildred Staniszewski Wheeler. Surviving, besides his mother of this city, is his wife, Grace M. of Fayetteville; a daughter, Stacie Wheeler of Fayetteville; six brothers, James of Montgomery, Joseph of Cogan Station, John of South Williamsport, Robert of Linglestown, Edward in Maryland, and Frederick of DuBoistown; two sisters, Barbara Grimes in Hawaii and Juanita Neifert of Mechanicsburg. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Mowell & Son’s, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Ga., with the Rev. Carl Ryden officiating.

Louis J. DiMarco, 69, of Michigan, formerly of this city, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, following an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Audrey Nelson, observed their 42nd wedding anniversary this year. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School and Cornell University. He was an Army Veteran. Born Feb. 22, 1931, in this city, he was a son of Joseph and Grace Sciacca DiMarco. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, John, a daughter, Lynette and a sister, Carmen Tuger, all in Michigan; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, who died in Feb. 2000. The funeral will be Monday at Harris’, 1541 Farmington Road, Livonia, Mich.

Jennie M. Coehler, 79, of 305 Winters Lane, Montoursville, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Sycamore Manor Nursing Home. She was the widow of Donald L. Coehler, who died May 29, 1999. She was an employee at GTE Sylvania Hall Station. She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in McAdoo. Surviving are a son, Donald L. Jr. of Muncy and two grandchildren, Michael and Lindsay Coehler. There will be no funeral. Burial will be in Twin Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
Virginia R. Dudkiewicz
Virginia Rosemary Carducci Wood Dudkiewicz, 62, of Rochester, N.Y., a city native, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, in Rochester. She was an accomplished pianist-musician and an avid photographer. She was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Williamsport. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Steel and Debbie Wood; a brother, Richard Carducci; and a granddaughter, Marissa Steel. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
Doris M. Hoffman
LOCK HAVEN - Doris M. Hoffman, 78, of 256 E. Highland St., Avis, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Lock Haven Hospital, Extended Care Unit. She worked for Sylvania as a tube tester. She enjoyed gardening and playing bingo. Born March 24, 1922, in Pombs Run, Pine Creek, she was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Riggle Spong. Surviving are five sons, Jesse W. of Williamsport, Leroy E. of Cogan Station, Richard L. of Renovo, Clarence E. of Oval and David L. Riggle of Lock Haven; six daughters, Canda M. Krugle and Audrey L. Rishel, both of Antes Fort, Lynn M. Hoffman, Stephanie A. Younkin and Tammy L. Puzak, all of Avis; two sisters, Jessie Stover, Ruth Lowmiller both of Avis; a brother, Leslie Spong of Jersey Shore; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Hoffman Rishel, three sisters, Ellen Riggle, Edith Green, and Edna Wall; and a grandchild, Rosalie Krugle. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Carl Vining officiating. Burial will be in Tombs Run Cemetery. Kathryn Blackburn Lakis
LEWISBURG - Kathryn Blackburn Lakis, 67, of 145 Williowbrook Blvd., Lewisburg, died at her home, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000. Lakis was a medical secretary for Dr. J. Ginsburg, of Lewisburg, for 19 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. An avid sports fan, Lakis graduated from high school in Pleasantville, N.Y., and from Ladycliff College, in Hudson, N.Y. She was married to George Stephen Lakis for 43 years. Born June 6, 1933, in Orange, N.J., she was a daughter of Benjamin F. and Helen A. McMahon Dubbels. Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, Greg and David of Boston, Mass.; Geoff of Baltimore, Md.; and Jim of South Williamsport; and seven grandchildren; two brothers Richard Dubbels, her twin, of San Antonio, Texas, and David Dubbels of Pompton Lakes, N.J. Preceding her in death was a brother, William. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at her church, the Rev. William J, Nessell officiating. Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery at the convince of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Shaw’s, Market and Eighth Street, Lewisburg.
Elouise A. Lundy
CANTON - Elouise A. Lundy, 92, of Canton, died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Sycamore Manor Health Center, Montoursville. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaRue M. Lundy, on Sept. 13, 1966. Lundy was a member of the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Canton. In earlier years she was an active member of the First Baptist Church also in Canton. She was a dedicated worker in the church, serving as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher and president of the Women’s Dorcas Class for many years. Born Aug. 17, 1908, in Canton Township, she was a daughter of Owen and Nina Ingerick Moore. She was a graduate of Canton High School in 1926 and worked at Belmar Manufacturing for a short time after graduation. She is survived by a sister Marian Infantino of Troy; a son Edward of Rialto, Calif.; and two daughters, Carol Jones of Roaring Branch and Marilyn Huff of Montoursville; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Moore and Carlyle Moore. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton, with her pastor, Rev. David B. Morris, officiating. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery. Robert S. McHenry
Robert S. McHenry, 80, of Boonville, N.C., and longtime resident of the Wellsboro area, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Betty Jean Cole McHenry. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Benton Methodist Church, Benton; the Benton Lodge 667, F and AM; and the Elks Club, Bloomsburg. He was formerly employed by Ingersoll Rand, Painted Post, N.Y., until his retirement in 1982. Born Aug. 30, 1920, in Benton, he was a son of the late Wilson “Ted” and Sarah Welsh McHenry. Surviving are two sons, Robert R. of Boonville and Edward L. of Wellsboro; a brother, Bill of Benton; a sister, Phyllis Babb of Benton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carleton’s, Wellsboro, with the Rev. James Truax officiating. Burial will be in Hammond Cemetery, Middlebury Center. MORRIS RUN - Word has been received that Grace L. Roupp, 74, of Christmas, Fla., formerly of this borough, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Florida South Hospital. She and her husband, Vandyne, observed their 55th wedding anniversary in June. She was retired from Corning Glass Works, Corning, N.Y. She was a member of Church of God, Christmas, Fla. She enjoyed raising flowers and gardening. Born Feb. 2, 1926, in Girard, she was a daughter of Cleveland and Nettie Godbee. Surviving, besides her husband, are six sons, James of Tioga, Denny of Orlando, Fla., Charlie of Blossburg, David of Liberty, and Van and Rich, both of Blossburg; six daughters, Jerry Learn of Wellsboro, Janice Brown of Canton, Nettie Cole of Woodland, N.C., Christine Short of Roaring Branch, Vicky Dibble of Troy, and Veronica Gulliver of Mansfield; a brother, Fred Godbee in Fla.; a sister Ann Beville, in Fla.; 29 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 7, at Calvary Mennonite Fellowship Church, Morris Run.
Robert E. Solomon
Robert E. Solomon, 73, of 69 Johnson St. Montgomery died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in the Muncy Valley Hospital, after being stricken at home. He and his wife, the former M. Lucille Maier, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 11. He was a member of the Montgomery First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Montoursville Senior Citizens and the A.A.R.P. He was a former Cub and Boy Scout leader. He was a 1945 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre and the Korean War. He retired in 1989 from the shipping department of the Pennsylvania Wire Rope of Williamsport. Born, Sept. 12, 1927, in this city, he was s son of John and Josephine Russell Solomon. Surviving besides his wife are, three nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Lynn R., in 1993. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St. Muncy, with Roosevelt Brown, his pastor, officiating. Elmer S. Paul, 80, of 315 Valley St., Duboistown, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Retiring in 1987, he was a salesman with Gerber Baby Food. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport. He was a veteran of World War II, a volunteer with the Mummers Parade and an an avid bowler and boater. Born April 13, 1920, in Williamsport, he was a son of Joseph and Gertrude Paul. Surviving are a son, Wayne J. of Williamsport, and three granchildren. He was preceeded in death by a brother, James. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert L. Driessen, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. LaRue E. Richart, 77, of 433 Gearhart Rd., Muncy, Northumberland County, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his home. He and his wife, the former Rosanna E. Pidcoe, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Oct. 16. He retired in 1987 after 43 years from the Lycoming Silica Sand Hanson Plant in Montoursville as a truck driver and equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting horse memorabilia. He attended the Fairview Church of the Nazarene, Turbotville. Born Feb. 9, 1923, in Sonestown, he was a son of Harry H. and Brittie I. Harding Richart. Surviving, besides his wife, are five daughters, Virginia “Jenny” Williams of Bloomsburg, Irene Heimbach of Mifflinburg, Chris Fogelman of Muncy, Betty Figels of Turbotville and Nina Camp of Millmont; three brothers, Harry Jr. of Pennsdale, Eugene of Glen Mawr and Myron of Montoursville; one sister, Geraldine Hoffman of Hughesville; 13 grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Herman and Harley “Pete”; and two grandsons. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Eric G. Dunlap and former Rev. Ron Warfel officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
