CANTON - Laura Josephine Saunders, 80, of this borough died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Troy Community Hospital. Her husband, Eugene Saunders, died July 20, 1980. She was a member of the Canton Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was a homemaker and assisted in the family’s logging business. Born Feb. 14, 1920, in Gleason, she was a daughter of Lewis and Elsie Leonard Williams. Surviving are three sons, James of Dushore, John of Canton RR and Francis Dean of McDonald, Tenn.; two daughters, Laura Albinus of Cleveland, Tenn., and Phyllis Saunders of Canton RR; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin and Harry Williams, and a sister, Clara Hurlburt. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Morse & Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday.

Patricia Calcagino
Patricia Calcagino, 65, of Inverness, Fla., mother of a city woman, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Northside Hospital of St. Petersburg. She and her husband, Steve Calcagino, observed their 23rd wedding anniversary in September. She was a licensed practical nurse at Avante of Inverness Nursing Home. Born March 21, 1935, in Waverly, N.Y., she was a daughter of Vernon and Mary Johnson. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Vernon Mainus of Parumph, Nev.; two daughters, Jeanne Rogers of this city and Sue Lavery of Inverness; three stepsons, Steve of Arcadia, Fla., Leonard of Floral City, Fla. and Daryl of Syracuse, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Stephanie Evans of Syracuse, N.Y., Janie Dotts of Cocoa Beach, Fla. and Candice Seigal of Syracuse, N.Y.; 34 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Friday in Florida. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Stanley A. Frederick
HOWARD - Stanley A. Frederick, 80, of 572 McClain-Rogers Road died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital extended care unit. He and his wife, the former Palmira R. Tessari, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary June 30. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service at the Lamar fish hatchery. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a veteran of World War II. Born Oct. 1, 1920, in Gallizin, he was a son of Francis and Regina Kurnaska Frederick. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Stanley A. Jr. of Mogan Hill, Calif. and Frank J. of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Laureen A. Bierly of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Edward of Cresson; a sister, Nellie Ritz of Lilly; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the church, Lock Haven, with the Rev. Neil Dady officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Lilly. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.

Sally B. Shadle
LOCK HAVEN - Sally B. Shadle, 70, of Naples, Fla., formerly of this city, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the home of a daughter, Kelly Jo Marino, 33 Sylvan Drive. She and her husband, Robert L. Shadle, observed their 44th wedding anniversary Aug. 3. She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the Aide Society/Children’s Home of Lock Haven. She was a member of the Clinton Country Club, the Clinton Country Club Women’s Golf Association and the Vineyards Country Club of Naples, Fla. She was a life member of the Lock Haven Hospital ladies auxiliary and had chaired many fund- raising efforts and was a member of the volunteer pink ladies with the hospital. She was an alumnus of Linden Hall, Lititz. She was a life donor of the American Red Cross Blood Drive. She was a member of the Ladies Masonic Order. Born here Aug. 4, 1930, she was a daughter of Clarence E. and Rose Kalmbach Baird. Surviving, besides her husband of Lock Haven and Fla., are three daughters, Sally A. Danyluk of Harrisburg, Kelly Jo Marino of Lock Haven and Robin B. Maguire of Mill Hall; two grandchildren, Jason M. Bowes and Heidi M. Maguire; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna M. Anstine. The memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Pastor William Esborn officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Douglas N. Beaver
LEWISBURG - Douglas N. Beaver, 75, of 815 St. Paul St. died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in the Evangelical Community Hospital emergency room after he was stricken while operating a snow thrower near his home. He and his wife, the former Pauline G. Wehr, observed their 57th wedding anniversary Nov. 14. Retiring in 1976, he was employed for 21 years at the Northeastern Federal Penitentiary, Lewisburg, where he first served as a correctional officer and later became garage foreman. He was a Lutheran. He was a 1943 graduate of Lewisburg High School. He was a member of the William Cameron Engine Co., here, where he was a former ambulance driver. He was a member of Charity Lodge 144, F&AM, and Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post 182, both of this borough. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Pacific Theater. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing vegetables and traveling. Born June 18, 1925, in Lewisburg, he was a son of J. Fred and Clara M. Harman Beaver. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Richard E. “Skip” of Painted Post, N.Y.; a daughter, Judith Ann McCarty of Muncy; a brother, Charles E. of Northumberland; a sister, Beverly A. Wetzel of Lewisburg; and three grandchildren, Lisa McCarty, Amy Jo Beaver Douglas C . Beaver. The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Cronrath’s, 106 S. Second St.

C. Jay Muffly, Barber;
Active in Community
WATSONTOWN - C. Jay Muffly, 92, of 505 Ash St. died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Kramm Nursing Home, where he lived for eight days. He and his wife, the former Marion Jones Straussner, observed their 31st wedding anniversary June 14. Retiring in 1994, he spent more than 68 years as a barber. He had been owner and operator of Muffly Barber Shop here since 1940. Previously, he worked at the Dick Shaffer Barber Shop here, T.N. Reilly’s Barber Shop in Williamsport, and the Hartlight Barber Supply Company of Elmira, N.Y. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Watsontown, where he served on the Consistory. He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, here, where he served as elder and on the board of trustees. He and his first wife served as co-chairpersons for the March of Dimes in the Watsontown area for 26 years. He was a life member of the West Branch Volunteer Fire Co. He was a member of the Watsontown Masonic lodge and a member of Williamsport Consistory. He served on the board of directors of the Milton Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was a former president of Watsontown Lions Club and a club director for many years. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He served as chairman of the Lions’ eye conservation committee and served on the committee for the Watsontown Youth Center. He was a former member of the Watsontown centennial committee, had served as a trustee for the Watsontown police pension fund and had served as finance chairman for the Warrior Run chapter of the American Field Service. In 1968, he was cited by the Watsontown American Legion Post 323 for meritorious service and loyal cooperation to the community. He enjoyed collecting antiques. Born Aug. 21, 1908, in this borough, he was a son of Ephraim A. and Nellie J. Waltman Muffly. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, James L. of Muncy; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ruth Arlene Weaver, who died in 1967; a stepdaughter, Joan Straussner Heebner; two brothers, Elwood A. and Fred S.; and three sisters, Kathryn G. Dobler, Leona Levan and Margaret E. Kurtz. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., with the Rev. D. Gene Patterson, pastor of Muncy Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Watsontown Cemetery. The Watsontown Lions Club will hold a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mildred E. Dorley
Mildred E. Dorley, 86, of Rebersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Jersey Shore Hospital. Her husband, Allen J. Dorley Sr. died Feb. 18, 1976. She was retired from Brodart in Williamsport. She attended Rebersburg United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the former Showshoe High School. Born March 5, 1914, in Pine Glen, she was a daughter of William and Edith Meeker Hoover. Surviving are four sons, William H. of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Allen J. Jr. of Loganton, Leroy C. of Dennison, Texas, and Herbert D. of Jersey Shore; four daughters, Rebecca A. Schultz of Woden, Texas, Jane M. Englert, Jerri L. Teneyck and Rochelle L. Keffer, all of Jersey Shore; a stepson, Raymond A. of Northumberland; a stepdaughter, Lois E. Davis of Cape May, N.J.; two sisters, Murial Cathcart of Bellefonte and Shirley Salvanish of Zion; 39 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and a companion of several years, James Mallory. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky L. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, South Main Street, Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Bruce Wehler officiating. Friends may call at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Frank B. Ramsey
MILROY - Frank B. Ramsey, 89, of 5 Ramsey Lane died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at home. Retiring in 1975, he was employed for 18 years with Capital Products, Mechanicsburg. He was previously a self employed farmer and worked for a short time at Precision Wear (Triangle Pacific) and was a truck driver for Smith Feed Mill, Newport. He was a member and served on the board of St. Marks United Methodist Church. Born Sept. 14, 1911, in Milroy, he was a son of Charles W. and Lottie May Wagner Ramsey. Surviving are a stepson, Francis L. Moyer of Lewistown; three stepdaughters, Jean B. Martinozzi and Joan B. Bush, both of Williamsport and Shirley Winder of Hamburg; ten step-grandchildren; and 23 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Verna Marie Coulson Moyer, who died in 1958 and his second wife, Kathryn Geraldine Thomas Peck, who died in 1993. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, Havice Valley, with the Rev. L. Ed Moore and Rev. Marshall Deckard officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at Bohn’s, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Howard A. Datres
Howard A. Datres, 83, of 928 Pine St., Montoursville, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness. His wife, the former Bettie J. Boyles, died April 22, 1979. He retired from American Home Foods, Milton, and previously taught Sheet Metal Classes at the former Williamsport Technical Institute. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was an usher, on the bingo committee and part of the church catering service. He was a member of the 4th Degree Council 366, Knights of Columbus, and its former financial secretary. He was an original member of Volunteers of Indian Park. He served on Montoursville’s civil service, zoning and recreation commissions. He was a former president of the Montoursville Senior Citizens, a volunteer at the Senior Center at Williamsport Hospital and a member of the 3/4 Century Club. He served as a Seabee during World War II and the Korean War. Born Oct. 3, 1917, in Altoona, he was a son of Henry and Clara Trenkel Datres. Surviving are two sons, Dana A. of Harrisburg and Lynn H. of Williamsport; a daughter, Kristine D. Datres at home; two brothers, William and George, both of Altoona; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, 100 Walnut st., Montoursville, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The family will provide the flowers.

Glen C. Williams
Glen C. Williams, 87, of 612 Allen St., Montoursville, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. He and his wife, the former E. Louise Bennett, observed their 65th wedding anniversary May 11. He was retired from Tetley Tea. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Eugene Grafius Post 104 American Legion. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Born June 15, 1913, in this city, he was a son of George C. and Grace Wenzel Williams. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Glen C. “Bud” Jr. and Gary B., both of Montoursville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Garth B. Williams. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Paul C. Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Darin G. Heggenstaller,

LOGANTON - Darin G. Heggenstaller, 31, of this borough, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident here. He and his wife, the former Geli Nicholas, observed their second wedding anniversary July 11. He was employed in building construction and covered bridge renovation. He was a graduate of Sugar Valley High School and attended Lock Haven University. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Social Club. Born Sept. 16, 1969, in Lock Haven, he was a son of Paul E. and Sara E. Lamey Heggenstaller. Surviving, besides his wife and mother of Loganton, are a son, Darin G. Jr. at home; a brother, Paul E. Jr. of Loganton; and five sisters, Shirley Weaver, Tina Hawksworth, Louann Vonada, Beth Dodson and Michelle Harvey, all of Loganton. Funeral services will be announced. The Rev. Kay Schwab will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery here. Friends may call at Welker’s, 95 E. Main St., from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral Services Set For Brothers
The funeral will be Wednesday for two brothers who died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in the Jersey Shore Hospital Emergency Room following a sledding accident. Aaron D. Poust, 6, and Adam W. Poust, 3, were the sons of Raymond E. and Gayle L. Murray Poust of 9832 S. Route 220 Highway, Jersey Shore. Aaron Poust was a kindergarten student at Salladasburg Elementary School and was looking forward to playing Pop Warner Football. He was born Oct. 18, 1994, in Williamsport. Adam Poust enjoyed wrestling. He was born March 3, 1997, in Williamsport. The boys attended the Jersey Shore Assembly of God Church, Antes Fort. Surviving, besides their parents, are a brother, Curtis at home; two sisters, Bethann L. at home and Sarah Poust of Benton; maternal grandparents, Dale and Elsie Murray of Salladasburg; paternal grandparents, Robert and Sanae Poust of Sunbury and Jerry and Joyce Moser of Herndon; maternal great-grandmother, Emma Dyroff of Salladasburg; paternal great-grandmother, Alma Beerbower of Montoursville; and paternal great-grandparents, George and Pauline Reed of Muncy. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Richard C. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery, Old Lycoming Township. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore.

Harriet C. Heyd
Harriet C. Heyd, 93, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Salladasburg, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000. Her husband, Carl L. Heyd, died Sept. 22, 1968. She was a registered and private duty nurse. She was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School and the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, Sayre. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore. Born April 3, 1907, in Oriole, she was a daughter of Maynard and Nellie Ruth Wolfe Carson. Surviving are a son, Gary L. of Salladasburg; two daughters, Yvonne H. Glass of Mechanicsburg and Karen H. Overdorf of Rauchtown; a brother, Clyde Carson of Carsontown; a sister, Martha McCarty of Erie; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-granddaughters. Graveside services were Friday in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Rearick-Carpenter’s, Jersey Shore.

Norma J. Fulmer
MONTGOMERY - Norma J. “Penny” Fulmer, 62, of 1750 Cemetery Road died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital where she was taken after being stricken at home. She and her husband, Bradley Dean, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary June 7. She had been employed in the laundry department of Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, and at the former Gee Bee’s Department Store, Lycoming Mall. She was a member of the New Life Temple. She was a 1957 graduate of Montgomery High School. She was a member of the Muncy American Legion Post 268 Ladies Auxiliary and the AARP. Born July 19, 1938, in Warren, she was a daughter of Gilbert A. and Mary E. Dyer Howard. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Debbie J. Kissinger of Montgomery; and three grandchildren, Erica J., Alex J. and Deana M. Kissinger. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Life Temple, 1006 Village Road, Pennsdale, with the Rev. Robert A. Lauver officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are being handled by Betzer’s, 40 E. Houston Ave., Montgomery.

Marjory A. Griffith
Marjory A. Griffith, 85, of 2140 Warrensville Road, formerly of 1434 Warren Ave., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband, Felix V., died in 1983. She was retired from Keystone Friction Hinge Co. She was a member of the former Elim Christian Assembly. Born March 4, 1915, in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of Cyril R. Sr. and Emma Reed York. Surviving are a son, Richard A., with whom she lived prior to entering Valley View; three brothers, Cyril York Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y., Howard York of Elmira, N.Y., and Donald York of Salladasburg; four sisters, Winona Winters of Elmira, Mary Hill of Linden, Dorothy Griffith and Beverly Gunther, both of this city; and two grandchildren, Thomas R. Griffith and Terri Griffith Ryersbach. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Winton and Dean York, and a sister, Martha Vanemon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Ronald D. Savits of Newberry Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
