Eleanor Bird
Eleanor Bird, 84, of 24 Bird Lane died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000. Her husband, Bert A. Bird Sr., died Oct. 12, 1961. She was a sewer at John Savoy and Son, Inc., Montoursville. Born Aug. 8, 1916, in Newberry, she was a daughter of Forrest and Willa M. Stackhouse Crist. Surviving are a son, Bert A. Jr. of Benton; two daughters, Jean A. Hill of South Williamsport, and Mary E. Dahlgren of Rose Valley; a brother, Carl of Jersey Shore; a sister, Dorothy Kaluza of DuBoistown; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with Pastor William Conrad officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Theo A. “Dutch” Lyons, 84, of Williamsport died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was the widow of Clair E. “Red” Lyons. She was employed by the J.C. Penney Co. until retiring in 1981. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an officer of Falicitas Chapter 500, Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekka Lodge. She worked with the Order of DeMolay. Born Oct. 16, 1916, in Orviston, she was a daughter of Charles E. and Mary Margaret Young. Surviving are a son, Daniel J. of Las Vegas; and a brother, Ronald T. Young of Philipsburg. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Thursday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Close, visitation pastor at First United Methodist Church, officiating. An Eastern Star memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Montoursville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Shirley Temple Marcey
Shirley Temple Marcey, 64, of Sonestown died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at home. She was employed for 35 years at G.T.E. Sylvania, Halls Station and Reach Road plants, retiring in 1995. She graduated from the former Sullivan Highland High School in 1954. She was a member of Valley United Methodist Church where she was secretary and treasurer and taught Sunday school. She served on the Hillcrest Cemetery Association. Born Jan. 2, 1936, in Davidson Township, she was a daughter of Charles D. and Mary E. Temple Ferrell Sr. Surviving are a son, Kevin L. of Sonestown; three brothers, Charles D. Jr. of Newfield, N.Y., Robert E. of Muncy, and Michael E. of Sonestown; two sisters, Margaret J. Buck of Montgomery, and Betty L. Ferrell of Pennsdale. She was preceded in death by a sister, Constance Mae Ferrell. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, Route 220, Muncy Valley, with the Rev. Karen B. Allen, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Sonestown. Arthur Minier
Arthur “J.” Minier, 79, of 115 Boak Ave., Hughesville, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at his home. He and his wife, the former Dorothy M. Confer, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary Feb. 27. He is a graduate of Benton High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member of Muncy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3428 and American Legion Post 35, Hughesville. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1713, Jackson, Wyo., the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 623, Bloomsburg, Voiture 382, 40 et 8, Highland Lake Manor. Born Jan. 22, 1921, in Benton, he was a son of Jacob and Rhea Fritz Minier. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Carl F. of Montoursville and Rick W.; a daughter Rhea M. Kepner of Hughesville; four sisters, Pauline Ridall Mack of Shickshinny, Christine Henderson of Bloomsburg, Doris Ditzler in Florida, and Geraldine Clementoni of Unityville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Lord, two brothers, James and Harold, and one great-granddaughter, Kierston Smith. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hughesville. Graveside military rights will be accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Travis M. Gibbs
Travis M. Gibbs Sr., 76, of 112 Kibbe Lane, Trout Run, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in the emergency room of the Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Joyce Williams, observed their 11th wedding anniversary on Sept. 17. He retired in 1988 as a self-employed truck driver. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Huntersville. Born Feb. 7, 1924 in Chocowinity, N.C., he was a son of Arthur M. and Dorothy Clark Gibbs. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Diane Esposito of Conroe, Texas, and Nola Freeman of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Travis M. Gibbs Jr. of Loyalsock Township, two sisters, Martha Pollock of Charlotte, N.C. and Dorothy Allen of this city; three brothers, William Norman Gibbs of Hampton, Va., Virgil Gibbs of Bohannon, Va, and Victor Gibbs of this city; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife the former Alberta Campbell in 1988 and two brothers, Garvis and Arthur Gibbs. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with Rob McKenzie, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the family plot in Chocowinity. John A. Bubb
John A. Bubb, 84, of 873 Fogelman Road, Muncy, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home. He retired on May 15 as a self-employed land surveyor. He was a former city engineer, and a former Lycoming County land surveyor, elected first in 1967 and again in 1971. He was a graduate of the South Williamsport High School and also of the former Dickinson Seminary, now Lycoming College. A World War II veteran of Navy Seabees, he served in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in Guam and the Mariana Islands. He was a member of the Eagles Mere Country Club. He and his wife, the former Nancy Knight, observed their 40th wedding anniversary on Oct. 29. Born May 18, 1916, in Hughesville, he was a son of Arthur R. and Nell Snowden Bubb. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, William S. of Tempe, Ariz; three daughters, Susan Bubb of Hughesville, Barbara Bubb and Sarah Verrastro, both of this city; two sisters, Kathryn Myers of Montoursville and Alice Deckard of Hughesville and a granddaughter, Jennie Verrastro of this city. A memorial service will 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, with the Rev. Dr. Andrew M. France Jr., rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Muncy Cemetery. There will be no visitation, and the family will provide the flowers.
Frank J. Wenner
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday for Frank J. Wenner, 90, formerly of the Lakeview Apartments, South Williamsport, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the Hillside Assisted Living Center. He was the owner and operator of the former Wenner’s Market on Sherman Street. He was retired from the former Smith Printing Co. He attended St. Boniface Catholic Church. Born Oct. 7, 1910, at Bastress, he was a son of Jacob P. and Anna Condon Wenner. His only survivors are nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Bower Wenner; his second wife, Clara VanKuren Wenner; three brothers, and five sisters. The Mass will be celebrated at the church, 326 Washington Blvd., at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen McGough, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Frank J. Protasio
Frank J. Protasio, 79, of 36 Eldred St., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Agnes G. Cavanaugh, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary in March.n He retired from Lycoming College. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. He was named 1999 Retreatant of the Year, Catholic Layman's Retreat League, in recognition of 50 years of continuous attendance at retreats. e was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 366. He was a 1941 graduate of Williamsport High School. Born Sept. 9, 1921, in this city, he was a son of Jacinto and Maria Lavella Protasio. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Charles F. of this city; a daughter, Alicia R. Sebring of Cogan Station; a brother, William of Montoursville; two sisters, Marion Stack of this city and Rose Coryell of Littleton, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Genevieve Decker of this city. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, at W. Fourth and Walnut Streets. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. Cleon C. Myers
Cleon C. Myers, 86, of 643 Wildwood Blvd., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in the emergency room of Maryvale Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix, Ariz. He retired after 40 years with the former Grit Publishing Company. He was a 1932 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was a past Commander of the Knights of Malta, and he enjoyed photography. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Born Nov. 29, 1914, in Williamsport, he was a son of Earl F. and Edna Confer Myers. Surviving is a daughter, Cheryl J. Whitaker of Phoenix. His wife, the former Martha E. Tebbs, died in 1998. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR 2, with the Rev. David L. Weaver officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.
Michael Todd Green
Funeral Scheduled For Accident Victim
The funeral will be Thursday for Michael Todd Green, 29, of 2007 Carlton Terrace, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danvile, as a result of an automobile accident near the Arch Street bridge on Nov. 7. He was an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a local Little League coach, as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. Born Aug. 15, 1971, in Lewisburg, he was a son of Alfred G. and Betty F. Newcomb Green. Surviving, besides his parents of Williamsport, are a son, Michael Adam of Williamsport; a sister, Stacey L. Green of Arlington, Va.; and his paternal grandparents, Alfred G. and Ida Green Jr. of North Rose, N.Y. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church, 1730 Four Mile Drive, with the Rev. David Bixler officiating, assisted by the Revs. Paul E. and Alvin C. Newcomb, Green’s uncles. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Sally C. Sweeley
MILL HALL - The service will be Wednesday for Sally C. Sweeley, 69, of 10 Parkwood Drive, Flemington, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at ManorCare.
She and her husband, Donald R. Sweeley, were married June 3, 1952.
She was a 1949 graduate of the Lock Haven High School, a graduate of the former Lock Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree, and a graduate of the former Lock Haven State Teacher’s College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She retired in 1992 from the Keystone Central School District where she had been a school nurse for 25 years. She had also been a school nurse at the Lock Haven Catholic School.
She was a member of the Flemington United Methodist Church, the Woolrich Squares, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, the Penn Dancing Campers, the School Nurses Association and the AARP.
Born June 22, 1931, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Melvin and Charlotte Allen Campbell.
Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Wayne A. of Rote and Mark R. of Williamsport; one brother, Allen B. Campbell; and three grandsons, Jason, Jarrett and Jaremy Sweeley.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Ellen Evans officiating.
Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Maxine M. Knickerbocker
RENOVO - Maxine Mae Knickerbocker, 79, formerly of Renovo, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Susque-View Home and Health Center in Lock Haven.
She was a graduate of Renovo High School. She worked for many years in the housekeeping department of Bucktail Hospital. She attended the Assembly of God Church in Tamarack. She was an avid reader, birdwatcher, and loved crossword puzzles, camping and the outdoors. Born May 4, 1921, in Tioga County, she was a daughter of Frank and Nina Rose Bruce Knickerbocker. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Marr of Lock Haven and Vickie Knickerbocker of Moshannon; a son, Richard (Bev) Foley of Lock Haven; a sister, Della Burkett of Elmira, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; five sisters, Rennie, Ruby, Pearl, Laura and Beatrice and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., with the Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Interment will be in New Maple Grove Cemetery, Cross Fork, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Helen A. Brush, 93, formerly of George St., died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Hillside Assisted Living Community, Montoursville. Her husband, Eugene J. Brush, died Oct. 21, 1965. Retiring in 1972, she was employed for 23 years as an assistant foreman at Trimtex. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Our Lady of Victory 532 and the Top of the Hill Club. Born Nov. 24, 1907, in Danville, she was a daughter of John and Rose Hamrak Krainak. Surviving are a son, Eugene Thomas of Elmira, N.Y.; two daughters, Helen Ann Eck of Bastress Township and Patricia L. O’Connell of Vero Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Veronica Barhart, Theresa Gipple and Clara Rudy, all of Danville, and Margaret Ward of Rhode Island; ten grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Krainak, and five sisters, Dorthy Gurst, Betty Krainak, Mary Ward, Emma Mayan, and Agnes McCarthy.
