Roberta W. Smith, 78, formerly of 1656 Memorial Ave., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since June 1998. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Luther G. Summerson
RENOVO – Luther G. Summerson, 76, of Fairview Lane, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center, South Renovo. His first wife, the former Shirley M. Mazzula, died Aug. 2, 1984, while his second wife, the former Sharon M. Wertz, died July 31, 1994. He had been a construction worker working as a high-pressure pipe welder. He was a member of American Legion 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6178 and the former West Branch Fire Co., Renovo. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Sims. Born Dec. 9, 1924, here, he was the son of Allen G. and Louise Graw Summerson. Surviving are his stepdaughter, Suzanne Davis of Levittown; a stepson, David Kelly of Lightstreet; two sisters, Louis Robbins of Williamsport and Oda Mansfield of york; one brother, Franklin of Grant; a granddaughter who he helped raise, Kelly Pickard of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by a grandson he also raised, Chris Summerson. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. There’s no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.

Shirley K. Williams
Shirley K. Williams, 69, of 1008 Beechnut Parkway, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at home following an extended illness. She and her husband, Kenneth E., observed their 49th wedding anniversary June 10. She was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School in Benango County. She was a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels and helped the Red Cross on Bloodmobile Drives. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Born Jan. 20, 1931, in Franklin, she was a daughter of Curt and Alice Brown Keith. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Stephen of DuBois and Park of this city; a brother, Curt Keith of Franklin; two sisters, Marilyn Marando of Warren, Ohio and Ardythe Jacoby of Franklin; and four grandchildren, Amy, Jessica, Tyler and Sarah Williams. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

James Edward Buckley
TOWANDA – James Edward Buckley, 88, of Granville Township, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at his residence. His wife, Elsie Mae Lee Buckley, died in 1981. He operated a farm near New Albany. Prior to that he was a farm hand. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, searching for ginseng, and telling stories. Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Towanda, he was the son of Edward and Bessie Howe Buckley. At the age of nine, he was placed in the custody of Bradford County Home. Friends may call Morse & Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St., Canton, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in East Canton Cemetery.

Jennie May Edkin
Jennie May Edkin, 90, of 1900 Ravine Rd., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Williamsport Home. She was the widow of August Laylon Edkin Sr., who died in 1966. She was employed by Sybil Mills for 23 years. She was a member of the Living Church, the Maynard Street Senior Citizens and one of the original members of the YMCA Senior Citizens. Born Aug. 14, 1910, in Larry’s Creek, she was a daughter of the late John William and Prudence Miriah Curns Hoffman. Surviving are three sons, August L. Jr. and Robert, both of the city, and John of Salladasburg; two daughters, Evelyn Gramley and Barbara Guinper, both of the city; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the last of six siblings. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Living Church, Daugherty’s Run Rd., with the Rev. Don L. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders, 821 Diamond St.

Mary A. Heath
MAINESBURG - Mary A. Heath, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Troy Community Hospital, Troy. She was a retired Nurses Aide at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mainesburg. Born Nov. 22, 1930, in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late John and Flora Hopson Drake. Surviving are her husband, Don; three sons, Michael Simkins of Madison, Wis., Thomas Simkins of Tilford and Ivan Simkins of Riverview, Miss.; three daughters, Susan Detweiler of Harleysville, Penny Froehlich of Teleford and Patty Sewell of Galeton; three step-sons, James Heath of Tampa, Fla., Michael Heath of Marathon, Fla. and Ronald Heath of Galeton; one step-daughter, Darlyn Batchlett of Sayre; one sister, Enid Elaine Martin of Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be announced. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton. Arrangements are being handled by Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield.

Edward Huttie
ESTELLA - Edward Huttie, 73, a longtime Sullivan County resident, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Dar-Way Nursing Home. He was employed as a well driller. He was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Hicksville, N.Y. Interment was private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Morse & Kleese’s of Canton.

Dustin J. ‘Dusty’ McNett
CANTON - Dustin Jay McNett, 16, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, while visiting family in Pine Valley, N.Y. He suffered from a progressively degenerative disease. A member of the junior class, he was an honor student at Canton Area High School, participating in classroom activities by way of a special television hook-up. He was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and was recently inducted into the National Honors Society.He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Born June 8, 1984, he was a son of Wesley and Teresa Campbell McNett of Roaring Branch. Surviving, besides his parents, are a brother, Loren; a sister, Amber; paternal grandparents, Stanley McNett of Roaring Branch and Bertha Albrecht of Clyde, N.Y.; maternal grandparents, Lyle Campbell of Himrod, N.Y. and Shirley Campbell of Pine Valley, N.Y.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday at the Canton Area High School Nelle Black Westgate Auditorium. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. followed by the service with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Morse and Kleese’s, Canton.

M. Fay Sember
M. Fay Sember, 83, formerly of the 900 block of Franklin Street, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Hillside Assisted Living Center. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Madalyn R. Siertle
Madalyn R. Siertle, 72, formerly of South Williamsport, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Miller’s Senior Living Center, Indianapolis, Ind. Her husband, Joseph J. Siertle, died in April 1997. She was employed by the South Williamsport Area School District Cafeteria until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was past president of the South Williamsport Parent-Teacher Association, past president of the Zafar Grottoettes and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge 321 Order of the Amaranth. Born Aug. 5, 1928, in Chester, she was a daughter of Harry B. and Edna Gable Hammers. Surviving are two daughters, Joette M. of Tonawanda, N.Y. and Susan M. Confair of South Williamsport; four sons, Stanley L. Bausinger of Ocala, Fla., David W. Bausinger of Loyalsock, Robert W. of Indianapolis and Larry D. of Loyalsock; one brother, Robert W. Hammers of Aston; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Charlene, Genie, Katie and Michael Bausinger, Sarah and Joseph Siertle, William and Angela Confair, and Christopher and Joseph Berninger; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Bausinger. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Regis Williams and Jane Felmlee. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wildwood Cemetery Chapel, with the Rev. Robert L. Driesen officiating. A private burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers.

Earl C. Tressler
PENNSDALE - Earl C. Tressler, 60, of 1029 Village Rd., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital. He and his wife, the former Bonnie Gauthier, observed their 37th wedding anniversary last April 13. He was a 1958 graduate of Bellefonte High School and a 1962 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Engineering. He received his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Penn State University in 1968. He was employed as an engineer by the former Sprout-Waldron Corp., now Andritz, in Muncy from 1968 until his retirement in 1994. He formerly served as president of the Muncy School Board. He was a former chairman of the Lycoming County Planning Commission and a former board member of the Lycoming County Water and Sewer Authority. He was awarded and honorary membership in the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Company for his assistance in construction of the new fire hall. Born Oct. 1, 1940, in Bellefonte, he was a son of Earl L. and Ernestine Rider Tressler. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother of Pleasant Gap, are one daughter, Tami Blewitt of Fayetteville, N.C.; two children whom he reared, Curtis Little of Pennsdale and Kelly Little of the city; three brothers, Richard and Kermit of State College and Hubert of Green Bay, Wis.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph E., who died in July 1985. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, with the Revs. Bethany P. Wood and Paul Toms officiating. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will provide the flowers.

Gordon F. Wagner
MIDDLEBURY - Gordon F. Wagner, 88, of RR 2, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at his residence. He and his wife, the former Blanche Cummings, celebrated their wedding anniversary on June 30, 2000. He was a retired farmer. He was a member and deacon of the Middlebury Baptist Church, Holiday, and a member of the Middlebury Grange 705. Born here July 21, 1912, he was a son of the late George J. and Florence Hotchkiss Wagner. Surviving, besides his wife, are three brothers, Leonard, Rev. Gerald and Lyle, all of Middlebury; three sisters, Kathryn Bertsche of Middlebury and Mildred Miller and Clara Hill, both of Wellsboro; three grandchildren, John Wagner of Wellsboro, David Wagner of Addison, N.Y. and Julie Wagner of Holley, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald, and two brothers, Kenneth and Charles. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will provide the flowers.

Eleanor G. Wyland
LOCK HAVEN – Eleanor G. Wyland, 76, of 220 Clinton St., died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services, Jersey Shore, where she had been a patient for more than three years. She and her husband, Harold R. Wyland, celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary June 20. She was employed as a secretary in the library of Lock Haven University. Prior to that, she was was employed in the university’s Arts and Science departments. She also was employed with General Armature and American Antaline, both of Lock Haven. She was a 1942 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She attended business school in Harrisburg. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Lock Haven, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She also served with the church’s service guild. She was a member of Rowanna Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Lock Haven. She was an avid sports fan. Born Sept. 16, 1924 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Hazel Thompson Glossner. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three brothers, Stanley “Speed” Glossner of Towanda, Larry R. Glossner of Mill Hall, and Richard “Dub” Glossner of Hawley, and a sister, Dorothy Shadduck of Lock Haven. She was predeceased by a brother, William Glossner, and a sister, Evelyn Decker. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township. Friends may call the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
