Harold C. Smith, Jr., 78, of 1530 West Fourth St., died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at the Williamsport Home.
Arrangements are being handled by Sanders Mortuary.
Charles T. Stelene
Charles T. Stelene, 90, of Johnsonburg, died October 2, 2001, at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys. He was born February 20, 1911, in Montgomery, the son of Henry and Lilly Hively Stelene.
On November 17, 1947, he marriage the former Margurite Dorio, who preceded him in death on July 5, 1979.
He retired in 1977 from the Penn Tech Paper Mill in Johnsonburg. He was a WWII Army veteran, having served with the Company C 76th infantry division in Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe. He was awarded three bronze stars in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign. He served in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy (Archie) Moore of Johnsonburg; a son, Leslie Stelene of Johnsonburg; a sister, Hazel Bower of Williamsport; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, Clarence and Larue and three sisters, Elsie Labach, Emily Updegraff and Alice Sewald.
Memorial services were held October 12 in Johnsonburg.
Winifred Elizabeth McCadden Stilwell
Winifred Elizabeth McCadden Stilwell, 86, of Jerome Ave., died Sunday, October 21, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services North, after a long illness. She was born September 21, 1915, in Williamsport, the only child of Raymond and Arta Reitzel McCadden.
She was homemaker. She was a member of New Covenant United Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Ray of Williamsport and William of Washington, D.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Helen and David Mackey of Upton, MA, Margaret and Gregory Bressler of Williamsport and Judith of Williamsport; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date; burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. The family suggests contributions may be made to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Craig Andrew Confer
Craig Andrew Confer, 50, of 319 Brouse Road, Montgomery, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, in the Williamsport Hospital, following a 13-year battle with cancer.
He and his wife of 25 years, the former Lorraine K. Carpenter, were marriage May 1, 1976.
He was a 1969 graduate of South Williamsport High School. For 16 years, he was employed by U.S. Food Service, Bevaco Division, of Pittston.
His memberships included the South Williamsport Lions Club, the Williamsport Masonic Lodge and the Wheel Inn, Ralston. He enjoyed traveling and was also a member of the "Active Sears Detergent Club."
He was a member of St. Boniface Church, Williamsport.
Born June 5, 1951, in Williamsport, he was the son of Lawrence and Phyllis Rowles Confer.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lorraine, and his parents, of South Williamsport, are three sons (who all currently attend Lycoming College), Nicholas, Jason and Patrick; one daughter, Lorena, at home; one sister, Candice Stopper of South Williamsport and several nieces and nephews with whom he was very close. In addition, his family hosted several exchange students who attended Montgomery High School and who survive him, including Mikine Suzuki of Japan, Jair Caraballo of the Dominican Republic, Luis Arias of Mexico and currently Kuniko Niinomi of Japan.
Craig will be especially remembered as a devoted father and husband, renowned and admired by his family for his courage, devotion and humor. He was a source of inspiration to many people.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 5 p.m. at his church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport. Officiating will be his priest, the Rev. Stephen D. McGough.
A viewing will be held at his residence, 319 Brouse Road, Montgomery, on Sunday afternoon from noon until 4 p.m.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Treatment Center, 1100 Grampian Boulevard, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Arlene L. Higley-Obourn
Arlene L. Higley Obourn, 81, Wellsboro, died Jan. 4, 2002.
She was the wife of William J. Obourn and a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wellsboro.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Tussey-Mosher’s "Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Visitation after the service at her church parish hall.
Family will provide flowers. Memorials made to: American Heart Association or charity of one’s choice.
Eugene C. Miller Sr.
Eugene C. Miller, Sr., 62, of Ormond, FL, and formerly of Cogan Station, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. Born June 19, 1939 in Williamsport, he was the son of Robert L. and Florence S. Nunn Miller.
Eugene retired from farming in Stanley, Wisconsin.
He is survived by three sons, Eugene C., Jr. of Blossburg, Mark W. of Dayton, OH, and Ronny L. of Cogan Station; a daughter, Sharon L. of State College, two stepdaughters, Becky and Teresa Miller both of Ormond, FL; a sister, Doris Vanemon of Williamsport, and twelve grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with Rev. Lynn A. Wheeler of Community Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home, Wednesday, 10-11 a.m.
Lawrence M. Staccone
Lawrence M. Staccone, 93, of 1875 Princeton Avenue, died Friday, January 4, 2002, in the Williamsport Hospital. His wife of 62 years, the former Tulia "Tille" A. Cellini, died April 12, 1992.
Born June 18, 1908 in Ceccano, Italy, Mr. Staccone was a son of Luigi and Teresa Bartoli Staccone. He retired from Ray-O-Vac and was a member of the Church of the Ascension. His hobbies included solar heating, gardening, masonry and entertaining by playing various musical instruments.
Surviving are two daughters: Theresa Peluso of Jersey Shore and Josephine Bellotti of South Williamsport; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Archie L.L. Staccone, a great granddaughter Niki Lynn Peluso, a brother Lavinio Staccone and a sister Teresa Cashera.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders’ from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorials be made either the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Avenue, Williamsport or the American Cancer Society, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
Margaret R. Waldron
Margaret R. "Peg" Waldron, 86, a resident at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for the past two years, died there Friday, January 4, 2002.
Her husband of 52 years, James H. Waldron, died October 18, 1999.
She was a 1936 graduate of the Muncy Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 14, 1945 and served during World War II as a nurse at Walter Reed Hospital. Just after serving at the hospital, she became a model for the WAC military uniform. She continued her nursing career at the Muncy Valley Hospital and was also employed by the Lycoming County Tuberculosis Society. She later served as a private duty nurse.
She was an active member of the Roland Ritter Post #268 American Legion, Muncy, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Edward J. Smith Post #3428, V.F.W.
Born September 13, 1915 in Muncy, she was the daughter of Eugene Delos and Helen Fahnestock Renn.
She is survived by several cousins.
A graveside committal service with full military rites administered by combined area veterans’ organizations will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Muncy Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. D. Gene Patterson, pastor of the Muncy Baptist Church.
