The funeral will be Wednesday for Helen M. Winder, 54, of Milton, who died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. She and her husband, Terrance R. Winder, observed their 34th anniversary June 25. Winder retired from JPM Inc., Lewisburg, and was employed by the Milton Area School District, Kramm’s Healthcare Center and Sears at the Lycoming Mall. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1665, and was a member of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Turbotville. She was a 1965 graduate of Hughesville High School. Born Oct. 31, 1946, she was a daughter of Alvin W. and M. Christine Baylor Poust. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Charles R. of Sunbury and Richard A. of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Sandra K. Williamson of Coupeville, Wash., and Sharon K. Aikey of Milton; three sisters, Virginia R. Fry of this city, MaryAnn Poust of Steelton and Betty L. Poust of Unityville; five brothers, Franklin A. Poust of Unityville, Daniel E. “Pete” Poust of Manchester, Kenneth W. “Chubb” Poust of Benton, Thomas L. Poust of this city and Dale E. Poust of Milton; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Rev. Susan D’heedene officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Sarah L. Zellers
MONTGOMERY - The funeral will be today for Sarah L. “Sally” Zellers, 71, of Chevy Lane, who died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was admitted Friday. She and her husband, Paul S. Zellers, observed their 42nd wedding anniversary May 29. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Eureka Paper Products. She attended Williamsport Area High School and the Lycoming Artistry School. Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Harold and Sarah A. Morehart Beamer. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Joseph A. of Clarkstown; five daughters, Roberta Fuller of Willow Springs, N.C., Carlene Ryder of Cogan Station, Lois Peters of Jersey Shore, Tina Guthrie of Clearfield County and Paula Swartzlander of Mifflinburg; four brothers, William and Clyde Beamer, both of Smokey Corners, and Glenn “Jimmy” and Clarence Beamer, both of Williamsport; two sisters, Doris Stevens of Cogan Station and Lois Welch of Williamsport; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Samuel and Paul Arthur Zellers, and a daughter, Betty Lou Winnie. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with D. David Shoemaker of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Route 405, Muncy, officiating. Burial will be in Watsontown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today.

Patricia J. Brown
Patricia J. Thurston Brown, 50, of 771 W. Third St. died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services North. She was a homemaker. Born Oct. 25, 1950, in this city, she was a daughter of Maynard E. Jr. and Dorothy Thurston. Surviving are her husband, William C. Brown Sr. of this city; her former husband, Everett “Chip” VanDeWort of Trout Run; a son, Richard L. Fisher Jr. of this city; two daughters, Carol L. Fisher and Mary A. Ambrose, both of this city; two stepsons, Ken and William Brown Jr., both of this city; three stepdaughters, Lori Ann Hinds, Tina Burnette and Corrina Firmstone, all of this city; a brother, Louis I. Thurston of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Donna Ann Fera of Liberty, S.C., Sandy K. McQuaig of Reddick, Fla., and June L. Hill of this city; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Pastor Ron Savits of Newberry Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Gertrude E. Breon
Gertrude E. Breon, 85, of 1900 Ravine Road died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Williamsport Home. Her husband, Carl F. Breon Sr., died May 11. She was an instructor at State Beauty School for 35 years. Born Nov. 12, 1915, in Renovo, she was a daughter of Elwood and Mary Hopple Winkleman. Surviving are a son, Robert B. Robinson of Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, M. Louise Seese of this city; a sister, Margaret Murphy of Green Acres, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Nelson, and a great-granddaughter. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Woolrich, with the Rev. Kraig L. Faust of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

Rev. R. Kenneth Heim
The Rev. R. Kenneth Heim, 83, of 67 Evansville Road, Berwick, a former area resident, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. His first wife, the former Virginia Todd Benson, died May 3, 1961. He and his second wife, the former Jean Louise Bennett, observed their 38th wedding anniversary Aug. 12. A minister for 40 years, he retired in 1980 after 16 years at Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick. He had been minister at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church here and at churches in Montoursville and Pennsdale. He was a member and delegate of many general United Methodist conferences. He was founder of Ministry to Missionaries, Inc. He was an Army chaplain during World War II.He was a member of Fowlersville United Methodist Church. A 1935 graduate of Hepburn Township Consolidated School, he was Valedictorian of his class. He attended Cleveland Bible Institute and graduated from John Fletcher College, University Park, Iowa.Born June 23, 1917, in Cogan Station, he was a son of Ezra and Hannah Ann Wilson Heim. Surviving, besides his second wife, are a daughter, Carole Virginia Unseth of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Lowell Eugene of Colorado Springs, Colo., Merrill Douglas of Riverside, Calif., and Robert Alan of Millersville; a brother, J. Roscoe of this city; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a brother, Paul, and two sisters, Cordelia Alice and Hazel D. Mutchler. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Bible Chapel. Officiating will be the Revs. Terry V. Gentner, church pastor; Leonard W. Thebarge, former church pastor; Donald E. Heacock, assistant pastor, Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick; Daniel L. Dennis, pastor, Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick; and Donald W. Miller, Fowlersville/Lime Ridge United Methodist Charge. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerhill Avenue and Pine Street, Berwick, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are being handled by Kelchner-McMichael’s, 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick.

Agnes I. “Auggi” Kitner
MONTGOMERY - Agnes I. “Augie” Kitner, 53, of 7022 Sulphur Springs Road died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital, following a brief illness. She and her husband, Robert J. Kitner, observed their 36th wedding anniversary Dec. 2.She was a homemaker.An Alaskan Indian, she was a member of the Athabascan Tribe.Born Feb. 16, 1947, at Fort Yukon, Alaska, she was a daughter of Paul and Agnes Flitt James.Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Kenneth of Allenwood; a daughter, Janet Dudek of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several family members in Alaska. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Max W. Furman, Elimsport United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Betzer’s, 40 E. Houston Ave.

Robert Harrison Hoyt
Robert Harrison Hoyt, 73, of Old Cookerville Road, Sparta, Tenn., the father of a city woman, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at home. He was an electrical engineer. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia. He was a member of Cross Keys Fraternity Honor Society. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene. Born July 10, 1927, in Igantius, Mont., he was a son of Henry Harrison and Edwina Ruth Miller Hoyt. Surviving are his wife, Elma Jeanette; two daughters, Myrne Louise Bradley of this city and Jennifer Kelly of Sparta; a son, Dr. Robert Jr. of Sparta; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Thurman’s, Sparta, with Tom Havener and W. Dale Martin officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A local memorial service will be later.

George W. Smith,
Former Superintendent
George W. Smith, 78, of 376 Union Ave. died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Sara J. Heck, observed their 50th wedding anniversary June 16. He retired in 1983 as superintendent of the Loyalsock Township School District, having started there in 1959 as a secondary school principal. He also taught in Millersburg Area School District and Fayette Township School District. He served on two statewide commissions sponsored by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and was a member of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He was a former member of the Family and Children Services board, the American Association of School Administrators, and the Williamsport Board of Health. He graduated from Shamokin High School in 1940, Bloomsburg State Teachers College and Bucknell University and did doctorate work at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he had been a member of the church council and a Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born April 2, 1922, in Shamokin, he was a son of Clarence E. and Lillie M. Oliver Smith. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Eric C. of South Williamsport; a daughter, Georgia L. Lynn of this city; a sister, Jeanne M. Fargus of this city; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will provide the flowers.

Leon W. Yarosz
Leon W. Yarosz, 82, of 1216 Dewey Ave. died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at ManorCare Nursing Center South, where he had lived since Jan 4. His first wife, the former Frances Price, died Jan 13, 1962, and his second wife, the former Shirley A. Hoy, died July 6, 1993. He retired from Alcan Cable after 20 years and had worked for Sweet Steel. He was a member of Church of the Ascension. Born May 22, 1918, in Clarence, he was a son of Raymond P. and Katherine Golla Yarosz. Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Weaver of this city, Patricia Hoffman of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ruth Bothwell of Mission Viejo, Calif.; three sons, Raymond of Salida, Colo.; John at home and Joseph of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, John and Baldwin, both of this city; three sisters, Elsie Hyde of this city, Anna Wentz of Schuylkill Haven and Carolyn Brown in Maryland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, 2101 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a vigil at 8:30.

Helen J. Carey
Helen J. Carey, 92, of 1900 Ravine Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at the Williamsport Home. Her husband, Charles D., died Dec. 6, 1989. She began teaching in the Quaker Hill one-room school and retired from Intermediate Unit 17. She was a member of Farragut United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Retired Pennsylvania Teachers Association, the Montoursville Garden Club and the Montoursville Magazine Club. Born Jan. 15, 1908, in Montoursville, she was a daughter of Jacob E. and Elsie B. Bricker Klepper. Surviving are two sons, Daniel F. and Joseph L., both of Montoursville; a daughter, Mary Jane Allbaugh of Fort Orchard, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Gage and Blanche Shaffer, both of this city; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Farragut, with the Rev. Donald E. Yorks officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.

Harry L. Liddic
Harry L. Liddic, 77, of Dayton, Ohio, a city native, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001. He was a retired typesetter. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid golfer. Born Jan. 18, 1923, in this city, he was a son of Edgar and Mabel Liddic. Surviving are three sons, Harry of Auburn, Calif., David of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Jeffrey Scott of Mason, Ohio; a daughter, Susan of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Leonard of Baltimore, Md., and Kenneth of this city; two sisters, Beryl Shuker of Harrisburg and Eileen Wascher of this city; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Tobias’, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, Dayton, Ohio. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery.

Genevieve P. Whitehead
Genevieve P. Whitehead, 93, of Potsdam, N.Y., a city native, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. Her husband, William D. Whitehead, died July 11, 1999. She was a secondary mathematics teacher here and then in Jamestown and Utica, N.Y. A violinist and pianist, she played with an orchestra. She graduated cum laude from Bucknell University in 1928. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Utica, N.Y., and American Baptist Women. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Born June 6, 1907, in this city, she was a daughter of Floyd and Della Maynard Punches. Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Hatboro and Robert of Canandaigua, N.Y.; a daughter, Linda Jones of Potsdam, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds’, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, N.Y., with the Rev. Mark S. Caruana officiating.

Jack L. Caputo Sr.
Word has been received of the death of Jack L. Caputo Sr., 73, of Virginia Beach, Va., a city native, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at home. He was retired from Hillcrest Cleaners. He was a member of First Church of The Nazarene. Surviving are a son, Jack L. Jr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Roxann Van Auken of Virginia Beach; five brothers, James, Kenneth, Robert, Richard and William Caputo; two sisters, Patricia Dunkelberger and Betty Croffut; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence K. The funeral was Monday. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park. Arrangements were handled by Altmeyer’s, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, Va.

Clara J. Rooker Maggs
Clara J. Rooker Maggs, 51, formerly of Glen Mawr, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services. She was employed for 17 years by Hon Industries. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting. Born Oct. 31, 1949, in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of Michael and Joyce Ernest. Surviving are her mother, Joyce Bragg of Danville; a son, Grant Lee Rooker Jr. of Hughesville; two daughters, Crystal L. Jordan of Unityville and Lore A. Maggs of Hughesville; two brothers, Timothy Bragg and Earl Ernest, both of Millville; four sisters, Lisa Craig and Tammie Kelley, both of Danville, Tammi Lu Hawkins of Lititz and Barbara Cunnius of New Ringold; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lee Rooker, and a daughter, Tina Marie Rooker. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 357 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Samuel P. Reed, pastor of Tivoli United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Sonestown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Orla L. Clees
Orla Luella Clees, 84, a resident of Manor Care North died there Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. Her husband, Charles R. Clees, died Feb. 5, 1982. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Montoursville. Born July 8, 1916, in Fairfield Township, she was a daughter of William and Orla Northrop Clees. Surviving are a niece, Pat Graber of Danbury, Wis.; a great nephew, Jimmy; and a great niece, Barbara. She was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Clees. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Zetto officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
