Theressa E. Halderman, 94, of 2830 Old Montoursville Road, Montoursville, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at home following a brief illness. She and her husband, Leroy M. Halderman, observed their 73rd wedding anniversary April 16. She was a member of Jehovah’s Witness. Born Feb. 19, 1906, in Loyalsockville, she was a daughter of Frank and Cordelia Lewis Wright. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Leroy Jr. of this city, David W. of Montoursville and Franklin B. of Sunbury; four daughters, Carmen M. Wray of this city, Harriet E. Young of Watkins Glen, N.Y., Joann Young of Horseheads, N.Y., and Althea C. Persun of Dauphin; a sister, Ursula Krimm of Montoursville; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Wright, and a sister, Neva Howlett. A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Cemetery Road with Elder Vernon H. Porter officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.
Leroy E. Napp
MIFFLINBURG - Leroy E. Napp, 76, of this borough, father of a Jersey Shore woman, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he had been a patient. His first wife, Bertha A. Aikey, died in 1988. He and his second wife, Shirley E. Keister Richard, were married Aug. 29, 1996. He was employed by C.A. Shipton Inc. and by Tom Shipton, both of Mifflinburg. He attended Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethern. He was a member of Union County Sportsman’s Club, Weikert and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was awarded several stars and medals. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture. Born May 1, 1924, in Rutherton, he was a son of John Franklin and Elizabeth Ella Wert Napp. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Patricia A. Napp of Jersey Shore; two stepsons, Joseph Richard Jr. of Millmont RR and Steven Richard of Mifflinburg RR; two stepdaughters, Linda Wagner of Beavertown and Joanne Sauers of New Berlin; nine step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey and a sister, Margaret Kline. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hummel’s, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, with the Rev. Randall C. Fiske officiating. Terrence R. O’Connell
Terrence R. O’Connell, 64, of 1465 D. Johnston Drive, Bethlehem, a city native, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at home. He was an analytical chemist at Lonza, Clifton, N.J., for 40 years. He was a member of Church of the Annunciation. He was a member of the Keystone Trails Association and an associate member of Fraternal Order of Police. He was a Navy veteran, serving upon the USS Saratoga. Born Sept. 19, 1936, he was a son of Raymond J. and Allegra Shilling O’Connell. Surviving are a son, Terrence R. of this city; two daughters, Jayne Marie Henderson of Athens, Ga., and Elaine E. Lake of Morrow, Ga.; two sisters, Beverly A. Little and Donna L. Saunders, both of this city; and two grandchildren, Misti Lake and Noelani O’Connell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church, 702 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Naomi L. Webster
WELLSBORO - Naomi L. Webster, 91, a resident of Broad Acres Health Center, died there Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001. Her husband, Marion L. Webster, died Aug. 4, 1987. She was retired from Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. She was a Baptist. Born April 2, 1909, in Penn Forest, she was a daughter of Charles A. and Caroline Helmers Huseman. Surviving are a son, Richard A. White of Wellsboro; and a daughter, Sara L. Dexter of Wellsboro. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with Darwin Cranmer officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens. Frances Augustine Wilson, 89, of 9145 E. Route 973 Highway, Montoursville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. She was the widow of Freece Ryder, Asa M. Bailey, who died March 6, 1973; and Miles Wilson, who died Jan. 4, 1979. She was a member of Warrensville United Methodist Church. Born March 26, 1911, in Jordan Township, she was a daughter of Elmer Augustus and Martha Vandine Gower. Surviving are a daughter, Janice M. Fox of Montoursville; a brother, Clayton W. Gower of Montoursville; four sisters, Martha Gardner of South Williamsport, Grace Watts of Millville, Alice Gardner of Montoursville, and Dorothy Stine of Montgomery; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Herman D. and Harry W. Ryder, and a daughter, Norma J. Erdley. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Connie A. Waugh officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Eldred Township. Lillian M. Baer, 78, of Louisa Street died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001. Her husband, Irvin L. Baer, died in 1983. She was a domestic at Kings Inn, Oakes Club and Litton Industries. She was a member of Maple Street AME Zion Church. She was a member of the Hall of Fame for the First Black Women’s Bowling Team of Williamsport. Born Jan. 21, 1922, in Cleveland, Tenn., she was a daughter of Harry and Adella Jones White. Surviving are a son, LeRoy of this city; two brothers, Harry White of Marietta, Ga., and Edward White in Ohio; four sisters, Elizabeth Woods of Allentown, Ernestine Sutton of Lafayette, Ga., Harriet Jones in Maryland, and Frances Jarrett of this city; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allen and Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St., with the Rev. Marvin Reeves officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. CANTON - Edith M. "Edie" Vermilya, 73, of W. South Ave., mother of city residents, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Troy Community Hospital. She and her husband, Elmo Vermilya, observed their 54th wedding anniversary March 9. She was a Teacher’s Aide with the Canton Elementary and High Schools for 12 years and a homemaker. She was a member of the former St. James Episcopal Church. She enjoyed traveling. Born Oct. 12, 1927, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of Lester and Eva Boyer Reed. Surviving, besides her husband, are seven sons, Joseph C. and William S., both of Williamsport, James M. of Easton, Cristopher W. and Eric T., both of Pittsburgh, Randy A. of Cleveland, Ohio and Jeffrey L of Kennesaw, Ga.; two daughters, Cynthia A. of Easton and Nanette Swain of Rochester, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee, a daughter, Linda Jane Vermilya Chestnut, and several brothers and sisters. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery. John N. Zetto
John N. Zetto, 86, of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, father of a Montoursville man, died there Thursday, Jan. 11, 2000. His wife of 59 years, the former Elizabeth B. Zimmerman, died in August 1999. Retiring after more than 39 years of service, he was employed in the engineering department of the Elizabethtown, N.J., Water Company. Earlier in life, he was a photographer for Consolidated Film Industry and served on the Roy Rogers public relations East coast staff. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He assisted his wife in establishing two Christian schools. He was a 1933 graduate of Englewood High School and attended Rutgers University, in N.J. Born Nov. 16, 1914, in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of J. William and Clara Mittenzweyg Zetto. Surviving are a son, Rev. J. Jeffrey Zetto of Montoursville; a daughter, Kathryn Zetto of Valley Cottage, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Sarah Lutz. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Old Turnpike Road, Lewisburg, with the Rev. John D. Yost officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Horeb Church Cemetery, Mt. Horeb, N.J. Arrangements are being handled by Cronrath’s, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
Phyllis A. Wright
Phyllis A. Wright, 76, of Canton RR, formerly of this city, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Troy Community Hospital Emergency Room. Her husband, Lee Wright, died in 1978. She was a nurses aide at Williamsport Hospital for 17 years. She was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church. Born Feb. 26, 1924, in Farragut, she was a daughter of Harry and Florence Koch Tallman. Surviving are two daughters, Diana J. Twigg with whom she lived and Barbara Ann Pushnick of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Lois Shipman of South Williamsport and Claire Tietbohl of Casselberry, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Millard Tallman. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sanders’ 821 Diamond St., with Brother James Bird of Canton officiating. Frances Georgeen McKeag Cooper, 82, of San Diego, Calif., a city native, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. She was retired from the food services field and was a homemaker. Born Dec. 11, 1917, she was a daughter of Harry L. Sr. and Ida Black McKeag. Surviving are her husband, Curtis R. Cooper of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Curtis L. of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Cheri Ireland of Fairfax, Calif.; a brother, Harry Lee McKeag of this city; and four grandchildren. Private services were held.
Genevieve L. Janeski
Genevieve L. Janeski, 83, of 1349 Four Mile Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at home. Her husband, John J. Janeski, died April 26, 1992. She retired from the former Wundies, Inc., and was previously employed by area silk mills. She was a member of Church of St. Ann. Born Nov. 26, 1917, in Morris Run, she was a daughter of Anthony and Julia Kujawa Polcyn. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, 1220 Northway Road, with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Ruby Williams, 73, of Bakersfield, Calif., a city native, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Bakersfield. She was the widow of Francis Williams. Born June 21, 1927, she was a daughter of Harry and Elsie Stuart Wagner. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Hufnagle of Montgomery and Tammy Russell of Bakersfield; two sons, Jack Montz of Horseheads, N.Y., and Charles Montz; and three sisters, Mary Root and Jenny Baney, both of Williamsport, and Florence Vittorio of Tallahassee, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas. Services will be in Bakersfield.

Nellie V. George, 82, a resident of Roseview Center, died there Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001. She was a retired cook. Born Feb. 23, 1918, in Ridgeway, she was a daughter of Edward and Carrie Chelgreen Fluman. Surviving are two sons, William and James Schurer, both of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and a sister, Hazel Neece of this city; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Preston Dusman officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.

Barbara JoAnn Hines, 63, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Montoursville, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at home. A homemaker, she was a member of Miracle Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, Florida. She was born July 29, 1937, in Marion, Ind. Surviving are her husband, the Rev. William A.; three sons, James A. of Muncy, Martin W. of Montoursville and Gerald W. of Hughesville; two brothers, Nick Tutorow of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kenneth Tutorow of Berwick; and six grandchildren. Kent D. Glossner
MILL HALL - Kent D. Glossner, 32, of 11 Homestead Dr., and Los Angels, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001. He was a Special Education Teacher in Los Angeles, and previously taught at Lime Mt. High School, Nashville Tennessee High School, and Annapolis Maryland High School. He was a 1986 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School, where he was active in football, baseball and music. He was a 1990 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Lock Haven University, majoring in special education. He attended Big Woods Bible Church, Castanea, where he was active with the music department. He was a member of two local bands, The Urge and Dark Reaction, both of Lock Haven. Born Jan. 30, 1968, in Lock Haven, he was a son of Lawrence R. and Sherry Magent Glossner Jr. Surviving, besides his parents of Mill Hall, are a brother, Kevin A. of Centre Hall; and two sisters, Kelly of Mohrsville and Karen Bennett of Wilkes-Barre. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, with Pastor Ted Justice officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township. Mary A. Mattison, 71, of Eastpoint died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Manor Care here. Her husband, John Mattison, died Feb. 11, 1987. She retired in 1986, as manager of Eddie’s Restaurant in Mansfield after several years. She was a member of Eastpoint United Methodist Church and the Polly Anna’s. She was a graduate of Liberty High School. Born March 2, 1929, in Eastpoint, she was a daughter of Elmer and Sadie Decker Miller. Surviving are four sons, John Jr. of Arnot, Gary L. of Clemmons, N.C., William "Rusty" of Lawrenceville, and David E. of Eastpoint; two daughters, Ginger Kreger of Liberty and Connie Dawes of Blossburg; two brothers, Charles Miller of Corning, N.Y., and Rexford Miller of Cogan House; five sisters, Lois Cort of Worcester, Mass., Sarah Bohnart of Mansfield, Helen Schneider of Oregon Hill, Donna McMichael of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Betty Lou Snyder of Syracuse, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer Jr., Carl, Bill and Roland Miller. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Pastor Joy Hulslander officiating.
