HUGHESVILLE - Elsie Pauline Wertman, 63, of 1913 Beaver Run Road died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, after an extended illness. She and her husband, Wilford W. “Bob” Wertman, observed their 46th wedding anniversary Aug. 14. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Frito Lay, the former Weldon Manufacturing and Glamorize, all of Muncy, and the former Carey McFalls and Montgomery Mills, Montgomery. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting water wheels and covered bridges, puzzles and crafts. Born Aug. 3, 1937, in Unityville, she was a daughter of Harry P. and Grace A. Fenstermaker Stackhouse. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother of Hughesville; two sons, Dean E. and Michael R., both of Hughesville; a daughter, Sue A. Shaner of Hughesville; a brother, Dale L. Stackhouse of Millville; a sister, Betty J. Funk of Muncy RR; and four granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Wertman and a brother, Wayne Stackhouse. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. William L. McNeal, pastor of Unityville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lairdsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

David P. Bailey
NORTHUMBERLAND - David P. Bailey, 52, of 450 15th St., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He and his wife, the former Nancy E. Miller, observed their 18th wedding anniversary April 24. He was employed by Wood-Mode, Kreamer. He was a 1966 graduate of Shikellamy High School. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed woodworking. Born April 1, 1948, in Sunbury, he was a son of Kenneth and Margaret Carte Bailey. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Lonnie of Selinsgrove and Michael Fetzer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Wendy Mowery of Winfield, Michelle Smith of Middleburg, Rebecca Cotner of Muncy and Melinda Hare of Milton; three brothers, Kenneth of Dallas, Frederick of Aurora, Colo., and Gary of Lancaster; three sisters, Judith Pope of Sunbury RR, Jacqueline Hudson of Northumberland and Marlene Caviness of Sun City West, Ariz.; and 12 grandchildren. The funeral will be private. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at Blank’s, 395 State St., Sunbury, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Madaline B. Rathmell
RENOVO - Madaline Beulah Crider Rathmell, 86, formerly of 150 Third St., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Susque-View, where she had been a resident. Her husband, John Paul Rathmell Sr., died Oct. 25, 1984. She worked at Lock Haven Hospital, Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Norwich Hospital, Norwich, N.Y., Masonic Homes Hospital, Elizabethtown, Grnadenhutten Hospital, Lehighton, and Renovo Hospital. She was a 1931 graduate of Lock Haven High School and a 1935 graduate of the former Lock Haven Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. degree. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a 50-plus year member of Rowena Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Renovo Senior Citizens and Lutheran Church Women. She was a former Red Cross Volunteer, president of the Residents Council at Susque-View, and was a member of the Sticky Buns band, which performed yearly at the Clinton County Fair. Born Sept. 17, 1914, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of William E. and Cora M. Felmlee Crider. Surviving are two sons, John P. Jr. of North Bend and William H. of Walton, N.Y.; a daughter, Marilyn J. Short of Renovo; 10 grandchildren; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Crider Hoffman. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, Renovo, with the Rev. Steve Brauner officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.

Christie L. VanDeLinder
Christie Lynn VanDeLinder, 46, of 676 First Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts. Born Sept. 17, 1954, in this city, she was a daughter of Firman and Geraldine Hinely Beamer. Surviving are her mother of this city; a son, Charles Mann Jr. of South Williamsport; three daughters, Samantha Persun, Teri Mann and Kayla Vincenitti, all of South Williamsport; two brothers, Firman Beamer Jr. in North Carolina, and David Beamer of this city; a sister, Charlene Swank of Benton; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with Dr. E. W. Bixler officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Thomas F. Redmond Jr.
Services were held for Thomas F. Redmond Jr., of 1196 Vallamont Drive, who died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001. He was a local funeral director for 50 years. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation where he served as usher. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and the Greater Williamsport Funeral Directors Association. He was life member of the Central Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Williamsport Country Club, the Williamsport Elks and Moose lodges and the Wheel Inn, Roaring Branch. He was a graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School here, attended Villanova University, and attained his embalming and funeral director’s education at Eckels College in Philadelphia. Born in here, he was the son of Thomas F. Sr. and Mabel Dougherty Redmond. Surviving are his wife, the former Annabelle “Ann” Reidy; three daughters, Susan Redmond of Syracuse, N.Y., Elizabeth Redmond of Bal Harbour, Fla., and Ellen Storms of Macungie; two sons, Thomas F. III of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Patrick of Montoursville; and nine grandchildren. The funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

Sarah L. McCollum
Sarah L. McCollum, 72, of 2021 Hayes Lane, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., following a brief illness. She and her husband, John W. McCollum, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary April 12. She was a member of Heshbon Park United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bingo, traveling and spending the winter in Florida. Born July 24, 1928, in Northumberland, she was a daughter of George R. and Mildred Bonnell Myers Sr. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Richard A. of this city and John W. III of Linden; a brother, George R. Myers Jr. of Deltona, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry W. McCollum. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Ruth M. Romberger, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Duane A. Kirkendall
Duane A. Kirkendall, 43, of Coudersport RR, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001. He was employed by Pure Carbon, Coudersport. He enjoyed bicycling, the wilderness and animals. Born July 8, 1957, in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, he was a son of Virgil D. and Mary E. Kuntz Kirkendall. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Pauline of Middlebury Center; his mother of Berea, Ohio; two brothers, Van of Berea and Gregory P. of Coudersport; and a niece and nephew. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Berea. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.

Andrew Packer
MANSFIELD - Andrew Packer, 43, of this borough, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Aug. 28, 1957, in Wellsboro, he was a son of Walter Hawyard and Alice VanNess Packer. Surviving, besides his mother, are three brothers, Walter H. of Gillett, James G. of Covington and Richard B. of Mainesburg; and three sisters, Elaine A. Packer of Mansfield, Linda J. Tremante of Morris Run and Lee Ann Jackson of Blossburg. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roseville Community Cemetery, Roseville, with the Rev. Howard T. Woodruff officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St.

Mary L. Slater
A memorial service for Mary Leora Slater, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in this city, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Plunketts Creek Township Fire Hall. Born March 12, 1955, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Vance G. and Carolyn Hall Slater. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Oil City.

Velma G. Allen
Velma G. Allen, 84, of 300 Leader Drive, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Manor Care Nursing Center North, where she had been a resident. Her husband, Richard C. Allen, died Jan. 2, 2000 and her former husband, Dorsey Steiger, died in 1982. She was a caretaker and cook at Highland Manor, Hughesville RR. Born Feb. 1, 1916, in Osceola Mills, she was a daughter of Frederick and Della Campbell Campman. Surviving are three sons, twins Perry E. Bussom of Carlisle and Dennis E. Bussom of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Fred C. Steiger of this city; a daughter, Kathryn M. Colyer of Muncy; a sister, Mary Edith Cook of this city; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Williams. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Kraig L. Faust, of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Loretta Audet
Loretta Audet, 88, formerly of this city, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Laguna Hills, Calif., where she lived. Her husband, Dr. Louis Audet, died in December 1958. She had been a teacher in the Williamsport Area School District. She was a former member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She was a daughter of Hilbert and Mary Ramsey Rhoads. Surviving are a son, Louis E.; a daughter, Andree Milo; and six grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wildwood Cemetery with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Lois M. Batdorf
Lois M. Batdorf, 97, formerly of 1656 Taylor Place died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Roseview Center. Her husband, Chester E. Batdorf, died May 4, 1974. She was employed by the former Holmes Silk Mill. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Born Sept. 25, 1903, in Fields Station, she was a daughter of Harry B. and Mary Frances Williamson Beach. Surviving are a sister, Betty B. Brumagim of Roseview Center; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice, Hollis and Harry Beach, and two sisters, Hazel Wilt and Marie Elder. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy, with the Rev. Stephen Parr officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Florence T. Ditchfield
Florence T. Ditchfield, 95, formerly of 327 Louisa St., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at River Woods Nursing Home, Lewisburg. Her husband, Myron V. Ditchfield, died in 1978. Retiring in 1981, she was a salesperson for the former L.L. Stearns and Brozmans for 30 years. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Born Dec. 9, 1905, in Coal Township, she was a daughter of Daniel and Mary Shade Snyder. Surviving are a son, Charles D. of this city; three grandchildren, Michael Ditchfield, Michele Manganello and Melanie Hensel; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. There will be no visitation.

Helen M. Glossner
FLEMINGTON - Helen M. Glossner, 80, of 522 Frederick St. died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Lock Haven Hospital. She and her husband, Clair J. Glossner, observed their 59th wedding anniversary Aug. 29. Retiring in 1992, she was a teacher in the Keystone Central School District for 40 years. She was a member of Flemington United Methodist Church. She was graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1938 and Lock Haven University. She was a member of the state Education Association. Born Feb. 19, 1920, in Swissdale, she was a daughter of Edward and Amanda Bottorf Johnson. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Clair II of Elmira, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. Ellen Evans officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.

Frances E. Jefferson
Frances E. Gublo Jefferson, 92, of Shrewsbury, Mass., the sister of an Arnot woman, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Notre Dame Long-Term Care Center, Worcester. Her husband, Clifford T. Jefferson Sr., died in 1974. She was a graduate of Arnot High School. Retiring 25 years ago, she worked for the Edward Malley Co. in Connecticut for more than 25 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Shrewsbury, Mass., and its jet-set group and a former member of St. Francis Parish in New Haven, where she was a member of the altar and St. Anthony’s guilds and the Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the rosary society at St. Stanislaw Parish, Arnot. She was born in Landrus, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Kortsep Gublo. Surviving are two sons, Clifford T. Jr. with whom she resided and Robert J. of Newell, N.C.; a daughter, Bernice H. Liba of Westport, Conn.; a sister, Helen Signor of Arnot; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Leon, Stanley and Rozala Gublo, a sister, Mary Sawicki, and a grandson, David Jefferson. The funeral will be Friday at Britton-Shrewsbury’s, Shrewsbury, Mass., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, Conn.

Gertrude Pagano
GALETON - Gertrude “Trudy” Pagano, 73, of this borough died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. She and her husband, Ernest Pagano, observed their 51st wedding anniversary June 25. She was a nurse at Coudersport Hospital and Cole Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of St. Bibiana Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Coudersport High School and St. Francis Hospital Nursing Program, Olean, N.Y. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the Women of the Moose. Born Oct. 2, 1927, in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Glen and Fern Weimer Bickford. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, John C. of Galeton; two daughters, Lori Turner of Friendship, N.Y., and Betty Czaja of Coudersport; three brothers, Richard Bickford of Atlanta, Ga., Kenneth Bickford of Emporium and Donald Bickford of Port Allegany; two sisters, Ilene Close of Galeton and Loraine Jaros of Coudersport; seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Brian E. Vossler officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St.
