Amanda E. Chesnut, 89, formerly of Montgomery, died Friday Jan. 19, at Sycamore Manor. She attended schools in Sullivan County and retired from the former Montgomery Mills. Chesnut was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Unityville. Her husband of 33 years, Calvin L. Chesnut, died in 1960. Born June 14, 1911, in Laporte, she was a daughter of John W. and Mary A. Strausser Morris. Surviving are three sons, Clarence L. of Hugehsville, Floyd E. of Muncy and James E. of the city; two daughters, Marian E. Plank of Montoursville and Esther L. Umstead of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one sister, Emma Rishel of Montoursville; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers, George and Charles Morris and Ralph Edkin; and three sisters Verna Hines, Blanche Golder and Mary Shultz. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Bethany Wood, pastor of Bathany United Methodist Church, officiating. Warren A. Choate, 82, of 2832 Lincoln Drive, Montoursville, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at his residence. He and his wife, the former Melva F. Freed, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary Nov. 1. He was president and owner of Susquehanna Paper and Sanitary Supply, Inc. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Williamsport County Club where he served as chairman of the Williamsport Invitational Tournament; the Pelican Point Country Club of Venice, Fla.; and the Gray’s Run Hunting Club, Trout Run. He was the 1948 Champion of the Chautauqua County Amateur Golf Tournament. Born July 22, 1918, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was a son of Alvin and Mabel Leugemor Choate. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Warren J. of Loyalsock Township; two sisters, Ruth Tate of Westfield, N.J., and Betty Hinderer of Ashville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1301 Clayton Ave., with his pastor, the Rev. Ronald O. Doan, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Albert L. “Dick” Lupold, 64, of 1525 Pleasant Stream Road, Trout Run, died there Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. He was the widower of Emily Joyce Zerbe Lupold. He was employed by Rishel’s and The West Co. He was a Navy veteran. Born Aug. 17, 1936, in Williamsport, he was a son of Floyd W. and Pearl Hamilton Lupold. Surviving are four daughters, Kristy L. Bonnell of Montgomery, Tammie J. DeWert of Corning, N.Y., Jacklyn P. Hauke of Williamsport, and April L. Elam of Yorktown, Va.; three sons, William F. of Swansboro, N.C., Richard A. of Trout Run and Larry J. of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Doris Elaine Staber of Cogan Station and Rebecca Hazel of Stateline; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pollyanne E. Wettlaufer. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with pastors Craig Zimmerman and Steve Haupert officiating. JERSEY SHORE - Ada S. Nelson, 91, formerly of Tiadaghton Gardens, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in the Manor Care Health Center. Her husband of 54 years, Alford M. Nelson Sr., died in 1984. She had been employed by the Jersey Shore Silk Mill. Nelson attended the Lighthouse Wesleyan Church. Born Nov. 17, 1909, in Renovo, she was a daughter of William F. and Lydia Swartz. Surviving are three sons, Alford M. Jr. and Edmund F., both of Jersey Shore, and Frederick J. of Henderson, Nev.; one daughter Mary B. Rager of Jersey Shore; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn F., in 1991. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at her church, 220 High St., with the Rev. Gary DeWitt, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Dominick J. Abrunzo
Dominick J. Abrunzo, 76, of East Horseheads, N.Y., formerly of this area, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. His wife, the former Catherine Noviello, died Jan. 23, 1996. He retired as an engineer in 1986 from Corning Inc. after 33 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Williamsport High School and 1950 graduate of Penn State University. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the 285th Ordinance in the United States Army. He was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, a member of Horseheads Elks Lodge 2297 and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Corning Country Club. Born July 6, 1924, in Laquin, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Amalia Taddeo Abrunzo. Surviving are four daughters, Jennie Vegard of Canandaigua, N.Y., Mary McNeilly, Virginia Abrunzo and Donna Crozier, all of Horseheads; a son, Anthony of Elmira, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother, Anthony, and two sisters, Jennie and Virginia. Friends may call at Van Buskirk-Lynch’s, Mill Street and Grand Central Avenue in Horseheads from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Robert J. Agnor Jr
Robert J. “Jack” Agnor Jr., 80, of 1329 Grampian Blvd., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at home. He and his wife, the former Arlene Engler would have observed their 56th wedding anniversary on Jan. 25. He retired after 18 years as the general manager at Pickelner Fuel Oil Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in four countries. A 1937 graduate of the Williamsport High School he graduated from the American Institute of Banking. He was a president of the Newberry Lion’s Club and a member of Garrett Cochran Post 1 American Legion. He was a member of the Industrial Management Club and the Grampian Hills Club. He served with the Williamsport Billies Professional Basketball Association and was a director of the Eastern Pro Basketball Association. He was a member of the Bowman Field Commission and a director of the Williamsport Mets Association. He was a member of the Lycoming Presbyterian Church and treasurer of the church. Born Jan. 31, 1920, in this city, he was a son of Robert J. Sr. and Mayme E. Dysard Agnor. Surviving, besides his wife, are three daughters, Carol A. Phillips, Montoursville; Judy A. Noviello, Lansdale; Joan A. Martin, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Helen E. Foye, Ormond Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Richard W. Miller, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Harry Cattell, 80, of Cogan Station, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Manor Care North. A trailer driver, he retired from Manhattan Shirt Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion in Hawthorne, N.J. Born Dec. 27, 1920, in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of Nellie Denninger. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Betty P. Palmatier; a daughter Lynn Kuhns of Cogan Station; a sister, Dorothy Walls of Lodi, N.J., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Eadi, and a sister, Doris Benninger. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with Pastor Ronald D. Stanley V. Czop, 64, of Shunk, formerly of Philadelphia, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Manor Care Nursing Facility in Williamsport. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Canton Lodge No. 429, the Canton V.F.W. Post No. 714 and the Hillside Rod and Gun Club in Blossburg. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Born May 23, 1936, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Laura Kogut and the late Peter Czop. Surviving, besides his wife, Della Donato, and mother, are two sons, Stanley Jr. of Warrington and Peter of Philadelphia; two daughters, Linda Dolan of Richmond, Va. and Patricia Broderick of Philadelphia; four step-children, Kenneth Buck, Connie Boyd, Lori Burgeuss, all of Canton, and Donald Donato of Williamsport; nine grandchildren and 11 step grandchildren.; and a sister, Anne Henofer of Philadelphia. Ralph E. Hornberger
Ralph Edgar Hornberger, 74, of 1852 Frederick Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home. He was employed by the former Ille Electric for 23 years, Chemcote and Clarence Bauder (a building contractor), retiring from Bowser Manufacturing in Montoursville. He was a member of Faith Alliance Church. Hornberger played Little League Baseball on the initial Lycoming Dairy team under LL founder Carl E. Stotz. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S. Missouri. Born Dec. 27, 1926, in this city, he was a son of Foster J. and Violet Hensler Hornberger. He and his wife, the former Lois A. Watts, would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Monty L. of Hughesville, Dennis A. of Jersey Shore and Greg R. of DuBoistown; two daughters, Sandra Swartz of Picture Rocks and Becky Reese of Benton; three sisters, Grace Paulhamus of this city and Evelyn Sotack of Redundo Beach, Calif.; Lois Lehman of Cogan Station, and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Lepley and Jean Pitonyak. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, 2405 Bottle Run Road, with the Rev. John Otto, his pastor, and the Rev. Jonathan Baker, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God, Montoursville, and his nephew, the Rev. Daniel Lepley, pastor of the Dalmatia Baptist Church, officiating. WATSONTOWN - Annabelle Jean Hruska, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Kramm Healthcare Center, here. Her husband, John D. Hruska, died June 23, 2000. She was employed at Jasper Wood Products Co. and the Milton Shoe Factory. She was a member of the Clyde F. Maurer American Legion Auxiliary, Watsontown. Born June 16, 1928 in Watsontown, she was a daughter of Harold J. and Minnie May Hearn Aikey. Surviving are a daughter, Anna M. Hruska, here; a son, Harold J. Aikey Sr, White Deer; and three grandchildren, H. James Aikey Jr, Bonnie M. Reish, and Robert A. Nicholas. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters in addition to her husband. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., Watsontown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Caswell of Friendship Baptist Church, officiating. LOCK HAVEN - Robert E. McGonigal, 85, of McElhattan, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in the Lock Haven Hospital. He and his wife, the former Hilda Poust, would have observed their 57th wedding anniversary June 3. Retired in 1976, he was an employee of the former New York and Central Railroad, now Conrail, working in both the Jersey Shore and Clearfield offices for 33 years. He was a 1934 graduate of the Jersey Shore High School. He was a member and past deacon of the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven and was a member of the Lock Haven Golden K Club. Born Dec. 12, 1915, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Bartley and Eva Phillips McGonigal. Surviving, besides his wife, is a son, Neal R. of Mill Hall, a daughter, Doris J. Mitnick of Suffolk, Va., a sister, Edith Hart of Jersey Shore, and two grandsons, Brian and Brent McGonigal of Mill Hall. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Christie L. Moyer, 45, of 1057 Hepburn St., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at home, following a brief illness. She and her husband, Francis T. Moyer Jr., observed their fifth wedding anniversary on May 26. She had worked the last two years as a computer operator at Brodart. She was a 1973 graduate of the Williamsport High School. Born Sept. 16, 1955, in this city, she was a daughter of Francis C. and Annabelle R. Fay Ott. Surviving besides her husband, are, her parents, of this city; two sons, Kyle T. Evans, Jersey Shore; and Devin T. Sunderland, at home; two step-sons, Todd E. and Travis D. Moyer, and a step-daughter, Phoebe L. Moyer, all of this city; a brother, William C. LOCK HAVEN - Sara J. Probst, 79, of RD 2 Lock Haven, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care unit. She married her husband, Richard A. Probst, April 3, 1948. She was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading her bible, gardening and canning. Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Woolrich, she was a daughter of Raymond and Margaret Lannen Kalmbach. Surviving besides her husband, are daughters Carol A. and Debra J. Probst, at home. She was preceded in death by a sister, Daisey Carson. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. Marie Lewis officiating.
