Jennie A. Baney, 84, of 254 Wagner Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital following complications from a fall at her home on Saturday. Her husband, Chester L. Baney, died Dec. 3, 1974. Born Sept. 6, 1916, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a daughter of Harry and Elsie Stewart Wagner. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling. Surviving are a son, Richard A. of Trout Run; a daughter, Linda L. Hunsinger of Montoursville; a stepson, Russell L. of Liberty; a stepdaughter, Elsie Knarr of Lock Haven; two sisters, Mary Root of this city and Florence Vittorio of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Pastor Ron D. Savits of Newberry Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Lena O. Beal
Lena O. Beal, 96, of 1445 Sycamore Road, Montoursville, formerly of 100 block Grove St., South Williamsport, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Sycamore Manor Health Center. Her husband, Joseph A. Beal, died Nov. 3, 1988. She retired from the former C. A. Reed Paper Company, city, where she was employed as a commercial artist. She was a lifelong member of South Williamsport United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women of the Church and was the church organist for more than 35 years. She attended the former Dickinson Seminary, now Lycoming College. She was a former member of DuBoistown Garden Club and the Bald Eagle Art League. She enjoyed painting. Born May 12, 1904, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Joseph H. and Rebecca Williams Olmstead. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph H. Olmstead and two sisters, Mildred A. Stroup and Geraldine Long. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. R. Edward Cope officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.
Pearl A. Fox
Pearl A. Fox, 64, of 1472 Dauber Road, Cogan Station, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at home. She and her husband, James P. Fox, would have observed their 44th wedding anniversary Feb. 3. She was retired as a seamstress for Standard Apparel. Born Jan. 1, 1937, in this city, she was a daughter of Jack Scarborough and Susan Graybill Brown. Surviving are her mother of Cogan Station; a daughter, Debra Hillyard of Cogan Station; five sisters, Sally Walizer and Doris Bauer, both of Cogan Station, Jean Probst of Bodines, Janet Cash of Florida, and Clara Baker of this city; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack T. Scarborough, Jan. 12, 2001. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Ernest E. Donald E. Kuhns, 48, of Cogan Station, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. He was a laborer, formerly employed by Stroehmann’s Bakery. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, city. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football. Born Sept. 20, 1952, in this city, he was a son of Milford L. and Margaret A. Winder Kuhns. Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Kuhns of South Williamsport and Lori Kuhns of Cogan Station; two brothers, Milford Jr. of this city and Jim of Loyalsock; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Dr. Everett W. Bixler officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Mabel E. Lane, 94, of Aaronsburg, mother of two area residents, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Her husband, Thomas B. Lane, died Feb. 28, 1989. She worked at Laurelton State School for 18 years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Aaronsburg. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, reading and gardening. Born Jan. 12, 1907, in Haines Township, she was a daughter of Mary Viola Vonada. Surviving are two sons, Robert E. of Montoursville and Richard L. of Trout Run; a daughter, Phyllis J. Parr of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde “Rover” Eisenhuth and Earl “Pete” Reider. Helen E. Marshall, 63, of 619 Fifth Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. Born Feb. 2, 1937, in this city, she was a daughter of Alfred and Mildred B. Perry Chopick. Surviving are two sons, Carlyle W. Colley of Laconia, N.H. and Leonard M. Brann of this city; three daughters, Linda Peoples and Melanie K. Salgado, both of this city and Yolanda D. Penland of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Eileen B. Myers, 96, of Salisbury, N.C., formerly of this city, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. Her husband of 65 years, Dorsey J. Myers, died Feb. 8, 1989. She had been employed as a licensed practical nurse by the Williamsport Hospital. She was an United Methodist. Born April 12, 1904, in Shunk, she was a daughter of Albert Howard and Alma Elnora Rightmire Holliday. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley D. Smith, with whom she resided; a brother, Charles Holliday of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Laura Andrus of this city; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters and a great-granddaughter, Carlene Marchetti. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with her nephew, the Rev. Lloyd O. Snyder
NEW COLUMBIA - Lloyd O. “Tuffy” Snyder, 67, of this borough, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He and his wife, the former Marianne Stewart, would have observed their 46th wedding anniversary Sept. 30. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for more than 46 years. Retiring in 1995, he was employed by R.C. Stahlnecker of Milton since 1969. Previously he was employed by the former L.R. Yocum Excavating Co., Milton. He ran the yard markers for more than 30 years at Milton High School varsity football games. He was a member of the White Deer Township Sewer Authority for more than 30 years, the Milton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1665, and the Milton Booster Club. He was a life member of Watsontown American Legion Post 323 and the White Deer Township Fire Company, New Columbia. He was a member of Camp Goodlander Hunting Club and Penn York Hunting Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed making wooden items, which he and his wife sold at area flea markets for more than 20 years. Born Sept. 20, 1933, in New Columbia, he was a son of George C. and Hazel P. Bennett Snyder. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Lloyd O. Jr. of New Columbia RR; two daughters, Jackie A. Ficks and Candie L. Ranck, both of New Columbia RR; seven grandchildren; and one step grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Yonkin. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., Watsontown, with the Rev. Carl E. Mills, retired United Methodist minister of rural New Columbia officiating. Bina Garlick
GAINES - Bina Garlick, 87, of this borough died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at the Green Home, Wellsboro. Her husband, Russell Garlick, died in 1971. She and her husband founded the Gaines Co.in 1948, which they operated for many years. She was a member and honorary trustee of the Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the Gaines Thimble club, member and past noble grand of the Lady Gaines Rebekah Lodge, and past matron of the Galeton Order of the Eastern Star, which joined with the Mary Wells Chapter 452, Wellsboro. She was a member of the Gaines Kitchen Band, Tioga County Federation of Republican Women, charter member of Gaines Elk Council of Republican Women, and honorary secretary of Gaines H.S. Alumni Association. Born here Oct. 4, 1913, she was a daughter of Arthur and Hattie Elliott Youmans. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd T. Youmans in 1996. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David K. Shultz officiating. Burial will be in Phoenix Cemetery. Rosanna B. Egan
JERSEY SHORE - Rosanna B. Egan, 92, formerly of 215 Maple St. died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Manor Care Health Center. Her husband, Paul J. Egan, died Jan. 30, 1988. She was a 1930 graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Church of Saint Luke and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Born March 2, 1908, in Smethport, she was a daughter of Peter S. and Mary Traynor Bloometer. Surviving is one sister, Loretta B. Harrington of Erie. A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church, 120 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic officiating. Burial will be in Saint Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Welker’s, 125 N. Main St.
Dorothy T. Stott
Dorothy T. Stott, 83, formerly of Chester and Shinglehouse, mother of a South Williamsport woman, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in the Williamsport Home following a lengthy illness. Her husband, Albert Stott, died June 1, 1979. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Chester. She was a graduate of Chester High School. Born April 5, 1917, in Chester, she was a daughter of George and Myrtle Foreman Thompson. Surviving are two sons, Albert R. of Linwood and Stephen R. of West Chester; four daughters, Vivian A. Harvey of Shinglehouse, Harriet S. West of Boothwyn, Patt S. Marsh of West Chester, and Jill D. Strodley of South Williamsport; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Philip A., who died May 10, 1953. A memorial service will beat 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Crozerville United Methodist Church, Aston, with the Rev. Dorothy Fields officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.
Fronce Wayne Vance
Fronce Wayne Vance, 86, of 1990 Princeton Ave. died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. His wife of 54 years, the former Ruth B. Bush, died August 30, 1994. He retired in 1980 after 40 years of employment at Textron Lycoming. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Consolidated Sportsman of Lycoming County, U.A.W. Union Local 787, and the National Rifle Association.
Born April 16, 1914, in this city, he was a son of Roy and Nora P. Hill Vance. Surviving are a son, Terry W. Vance of Newark, Del.; a daughter, Gloria Stinson of Mill Hall; two brothers, Wilbur and Herman Vance, both of this city; five sisters, Hazel Barger and Delores Eiswerth, both of this city, Ethel Lawry of Vero Beach, Fla., Martha Jaques of Buffalo, N.Y., and Evelyn Holtz of Milton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Vance, a sister, Bertha Mitcheltree, and a half sister, Mary Vance Rhone. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with Pastor Ronald D. Savits officiating. Howard C. Ulmer
Howard C. Ulmer, 84, of 9463 N. Route 220 Highway, Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Rose View Center. He was employed by Avco Lycoming, Piper Aircraft and The Motor Mart. He was a self-employed carpenter most of his life. He attended Marantha Bible Church. Born April 25, 1916 in Salladasburg, he was a son of Jacob D. and Inez B. Williamson Ulmer. Surviving are his wife, the former Lora E. Persun; two sons, Merrill E. and John A., both of Jersey Shore; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Alfred, and a sister, Gladys Shemery. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Salladasburg Cemetery, with the Rev. John D. Austin R. Clark
Austin R. Clark, 7 months, of Bethel, great grandson of area residents, died Tuesday, Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. Born June 16, 2000, in Danville, he was a son of Richard L. Clark and Michelle L. Golder. Surviving, besides his parents, are two brothers, Anthony J. Golder and Alexander B. Clark, both at home; paternal grandparents, Donald B. Sr. and Anna M. Bristol Clark of Tulpehocken Township; paternal grandmother, Elaine L. Vincent of Binghamton, N.Y.; paternal great grandfather, William Vincent Sr., of Binghamton.; paternal great grandparents, Clarence C. and Edna B. Wagner Bashore of Tulpehocken Township; maternal grandparents, James L. and Brenda L. Huffman Golder of Muncy Valley; and maternal great grandparents, Elmer M. and Gloria L. Warren Huffman of Muncy. Horace W. Lovelace
Horace W. “Lefty” Lovelace, 80, of 1 Boardman Lane, Woolrich, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Lock Haven Hospital. He and his wife, the former Lois Seltzer, observed their 12th wedding anniversary Nov. 12. Retiring in 1981, he was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life. He also coached baseball at Bald Eagle-Nittany High School and Lock Haven University. He retired in 1995 after 57 years in organized baseball, playing high school, amateur, semi-pro and professional baseball. He managed and played in the West Branch and Old Twin County Leagues. He was a former treasurer and served on the Montgomery Clinton School Board for six years. He served on the Clinton Township Zoning Board and the State Athletic Board. He was a member of United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lock Haven. A mason, he was a member of Lodge 299 Muncy, Warrior Run Royal Arch Chapter 246, Watsontown, and Williamsport Consistory. He was a 1939 graduate of Hughesville High School. He was a Navy Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre. Born July 8, 1920, in Brooklawn, N.J., he was a son of Robert M. and Iva Wood Lovelace. Surviving, besides his wife, are three stepsons, Gary Seltzer of Charlestown, W.Va., Keith Seltzer of Rote and Harry Seltzer of South Williamsport; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Private services will be at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Theodore L. Cockley officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington.
