Gerald A. “Jud” Peace, 78, 3081 Rt. 973 East, Cogan Station, died Feb. 9 at Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness. He was retired from Springman’s Contracting. An Army veteran of WW II, he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Garret Cochran Post 1 American Legion. Born Jan. 17, 1923 in Williamsport, he was a son of Harry B. & M. Ethel Shields Peace. He and his wife, the former Mildred A. Bower were married 47 years June 6, 2000. Surviving are a brother, Francis W., of Colonial Heights, VA; one sister, Lucille Stetler, of Cloudcroft, NM and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Bernard W., Eugene F., and Merle K. predeceased him. Funeral services 10 a.m. Monday, Knight-Confer Funeral Home, Rev. James R. Sunderland officiating. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Sunday. George W. Weidenhamer
George W. Weidenhamer, 91, of Phelps, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, the former Olive A. Fuller, a sister, Viola Mountain, and several nieces and nephews. Walter J. McKenna
Walter J. McKenna, 77, a resident of the Highlands, Laporte, died there Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001. Surviving are a nephew, Gary Hamilton of 348 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, with whom he resided from 1995 to 1999. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport.
Paul E. Greenway Sr.
Paul E. “Pat” Greenway Sr., 89, of 428 Rose St., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his home. He retired in 1975 from the Reading Railroad after 38 years and was a self-employed hauler. He was a member of Church of the Ascension and Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. He was a lifemember of the Loyal Order of Moose & Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Transportation Communications Union. Born May 31, 1911, in Williamsport, he was a son of John T. & Katherine Hauser Greenway. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Eileen Rolley; 3 daughters, Patricia Prosberi, Linda Wojciaczyk and Mary Doersam; 3 sons, Paul Edward Jr., Timothy and Michael; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Church, 635 Hepburn St., with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano officiating. There will be no visitation. Virginia M. McConnell
Virginia M. McConnell, 84, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at St. Petersburg General Hospital. Born in Patton, she was a registered nurse and a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church. Surviving are two brothers, Kenneth J. McConnell, Wyandotte, Mich., and Homer B. McConnell, Masontown; and several nieces and nephews.
Walter E. Sawchuk
Walter E. Sawchuk, 83, of 16 S. Chestnut St., Mill Hall, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Lock Haven Hospital. He is survived by his wife the former Loretta J. Rollins. Born July 28, 1917, in Saint Johnsville, N.Y., he was the son of Nicholas and Anna Warcaba Sawchuk. He was retired from Piper Aircraft, Lock Haven, after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club, the Lock Haven Elks Club, and was active in the United Way program. He was a graduate of Saint Johnsville High School and attended Colgate University. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Surviving are 1 son, Walter R. of Jersey Shore; 3 sisters, Mary Babuska of Saint Johnsville, N.Y., Anne Cecconi of Little Falls, N.Y., and Gladys Marvin of Sun City, Ariz. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 12, 11 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday till time of services in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Rev. Michael A. Guiswite will officiate.
Margaret H. Blair
Margaret H. Blair, 84, resident of The Williamsport Home, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at the Home. Her first husband, Oscar R. Miller died in 1970. Her second husband, Lloyd J. Blair died in 1998. She was retired from the dietary department of the Williamsport Home. Born Sept. 8, 1916, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of George B. and Nettie Wettloffer King. Surviving are a son, Robert B. Miller of Duboistown; a daughter, Dorothy M. Savage of South Williamsport; a brother, George King of Montoursville; 2 sisters, Veronica Kinnet of South Williamsport and Helen Whipple-Woodhouse of Williamsport; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. The funeral and burial, in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. 3rd St.
Frederick C. Koch
Frederick C. Koch, 89, of 1800 Marshall Ave., Cogan Station, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy G. Beach Koch in 1989. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, member of American Legion Post 617, V.F.W. Post 7863, and D.A.V. Post 47. Born Aug. 10, 1911, in South Williamsport, the son of Albert and Emma J. Fry Koch. Robert H. Hoyt
A memorial service for Robert H. Hoyt, 73, of Sparta, Tenn., formerly of this area, who died Jan. 6, 2001, will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 3200 Lycoming Creek Road. He and his wife, the former Elma J. Dangle, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 9, 2000. He retired in 1988 from PP&L.

She is survived by her father, John L. of Renovo. Private services will be held. Cremation arrangements made by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.
Harry Myers Bear
Harry Myers Bear, 91, of Eagles Mere, passed away on Feb. 10, 2001, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born on April 15, 1909 in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, he was a son to the late Dr. Harry and Ellen Myers Bear D.V.M. During his college years, he worked at the Metropolitan Trust Company in Philadelphia and sang in a quartet on the radio and also at the Valley Forgge Chapel. He graduated from Ursinus College in 1936. In 1941, he married the former Anne Dorothy Hamilton Mohrfeld of Collingswood, N.J. They were divorced in 1951. During WWII, Harry was assigned to the office of Inspection of Naval Material in Philadelphia. After the war he worked in the Sales Department of U.S. Gauge, Sellersville. He was later transferred to New York as Branch Manager for the East Coast. He returned to the Sellerville plant in the early 1950’s. He married the former Betty Anders Friend of Norristown, on October 20, 1954. Betty predeceased him on Nov. 11, 1995. At U.S. Gauge he developed the quality control department and later was appointed Director of Automobile Products, a new department, where he devleoped products for the trucking and off-road equipment companies. In 1963, he built a vacation home in Eagles Mere where he became a permanent resident after retiring from U.S. Gauge in 1974. Harry stayed very active in his retirement: in 1976 he became a salesman and later Associate Real Estate Broker with Sullivan County Real Estate in Eagles Meere until his second retirement in the late 1990’s; he was an avid golfer at Eagles Mere Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors and was Club Treasurer during the 1980’s; from 1989 to 1993 he served as Mayor of Eagles Mere; he was a member of the Eagles Mere Lake Association, Eagles Mere Conservancy and the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce where he served as past president. Harry was a life long libertarian and member of the Libertarian Party. He helped found a drug task force in Towanda, and helped many people with problems in their lives. Surviving are a daughter, Gwyneth Hamilton Bear of Eagles Mere; a nephew, P. Thomas Oberholtzer of Glastonbury, Conn.; two stepsons, Peter H. Mohrfeld of Dennis, Ma. and Ward M. Mohrfeld of East Hampton, N.Y. He was predeceased by a brother John and sisters, Dorothy, Erla, Anne and Ruth. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Eagles Mere Cemetery with the Rev. Deane S. Shively officiating. The family will provide the flowers and memorials are directed to the Eagles Mere Fire Company, P.O. Box 56, Eagles Mere, Pa., 17731 or the Eagles Mere Ambulance Association, P.O. Reba W. Morton
Reba W. Morton, 88, formerly of 123 Grove St., Avis, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Jersey Shore. Her husband George B. Morton died Oct. 15, 1994. She was a homemaker and also worked at former Avis Shirt Factory and the former Shulers Cafe in Lock Haven. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore and also attended Fairplay Gospel Fellowship, Jersey Shore. She cherished her family and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. Born on Oct. 20, 1912, in South Avis, she was a daughter of John and Carrie Brobst Bay. Surviving are a son Rev. George J. Morton of Jersey Shore, a sister Margaret Ricker of Avis, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son George J. on Aug. 16, 1998, and a grandson Steven Morton on Dec. 7, 1976. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Rearick–Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with her Pastor, the Rev. W. Keith Rockwell officiating. Internment will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers. Florence C. Irvin
Florence C. Irvin, 103, formerly of Upland Rd., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in the Williamsport Home. Earlier in her life, she was employed by the Helen Trafford Custom Made Hat Co. She was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church and was head of the Alter Guild for many years. She was a sustaining member of the Williamsport Junior League, and also a member and past president of the Williamsport Women’s Club. She had been the wife of the late, John B. Irvin Jr. who owned and operated the former Irvin Shoe Store in the city. Born March 4, 1897, she was a daughter of Thomas J. and Jennie Staib Clark. Surviving are a son, John B. Irvin III, Boliva, N.C.; a daughter, Florence Irvin Kintzing, Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Joanne Garson, of this city; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. A Requim Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Church, 426 Mulberry St., with the Rev. Daren K. Williams, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church officiating. John Gerald Duran
John Gerald Duran, 40, of Jersey Shore, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born on Dec. 17, 1960 in Williamsport, he was the son of Charles William Sr. and Delores Ford Duran. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Jersey Shore. Surviving are his mother Delores Duran, two brothers Thomas and Charles, both of Jersey Shore, a niece Sarah Duran of Walnut Creek, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father Charles W. Duran, April 18, 1983. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Internment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rearick–Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Dorothy H. Andrus
Dorothy H. Andrus, 67, of 223 Clinton St., Avis, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at home. Born Feb. 28, 1933, in Bentleyville, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Mary Kalista Romanesky. She was a 1951 graduate of Bentleyville High School. On Oct. 10, 1964 in Williamsport, she married John S. Andrus, Sr. In the 1950’s, she was employed in the Mounting Department of the former Sylvania Electric Company, Mill Hall and also at the former Bloomsburg Silk Mill, Lock Haven. In the 1970’s, she took the minutes of the Jersey Shore Borough meetings. She also helped her husband operate the John S. Andrus, Sr. Plumbing and Heating Company, Avis. She was a member of St. Agnes Church and its Alter-Rosary Society of Lock Haven. A member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 284, Lock Haven and a member of the American Legion Post of Avis. Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons, John S. Andrus, Jr., of Mill Hall, Stanley T. Andrus of Lititz and Roderick P. Andrus of Largo, Fla.; a half sister, Wonda M. Simms of Butler; a half brother, Edward Black of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; seven grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and her two very close friends, Bill and Jen Decker, of Halifax. A Memorial Mass will be at St. Agnes Church, 3 Walnut St., Lock Haven, at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Neil R. Dadey officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
