Jane L. Long, 85, of 1218 Lose Ave., died Sunday Feb. 11, 2001, in Sycamore Manor. She was a granddaughter of J. Walton Bowman, founder of Bowman Field, she attended Williamsport High School and finished her education in Switzerland, helped at the Miss Bessie and Miss Edith Gaus Kindergarten. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League, a member of the Womans’ Club, a former member of the Williamsport and Eagles Mere Country Clubs and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Born July 15, 1915, in Williamsport, a daughter of George W. and Helen E. Bowman Lentz. Surviving are daughters: Ann B. Batkowski and Susan L. Myers, of Williamsport; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Predeceasing her were her first husband, Russell L. Hoffnagle in 1946, her second husband Edwin R. Long in 1982, a daughter, Judith B. Bogert in 1981, and a sister, Mary Louise Reeder in 1975. Funeral service, Thursday 11 a.m. at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave. Internment in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Hanna E. Betz
Hanna E. Betz, 2 months old, daughter of Christopher M. and Heather M. Rump Betz, Danville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center where she was born Dec. 8, 2000. Survivors include her twin sister, Haylie T. Betts and a maternal great grandmother Florence Sones, of Sonestown. Private services will be in Paradise Cemetery. R. Scott Quiggle, Sr.
R. Scott Quiggle, Sr., 94, formerly of 513 W. Church St., Lock Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 in the Susque View Nursing Home. Born Nov. 7, 1906, he was a son of Michael S. and Susan E. Quiggle. Immediate survivors include one daughter, Mrs. William (Constance L.) Smith, of this city, and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Bowers of Hanneyville. Arrangements are being handled by Yost-GedonÌs, 121 W. Henrietta Silon, 81, of Cherry Hill, N.J., formerly of Williamsport, died February 10, 2001. A former employee at WorthÌs, she was a resident of Williamsport from 1950 to 1996. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Rosenberg. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Ohev Shalom Cemetery. Clarence E. Schaeffer, 82, of Watsontown died Feb. 11, 2001, at Muncy Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, the former Mary K. Weaver, of Watsontown; 6 children; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held for his family at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Arrangements are under the care of the Cronrath Funeral Home, Inc., 308 Main St., Watsontown.
Clifford M. Casselberry
Clifford M. Casselberry, 84, formerly of Montoursville, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his residence in Lakeland, Florida. His wife, the former Mary E. Edwards, died June 13, 1972. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Eastend Baptist Church. Born April 1, 1916, in Lycoming County, he was the son of Raymond and Kate Knarr Casselberry. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Christina & Michael J. Hayes of Saddle River, N.J.; a brother, Raymond of Williamsport; 3 sisters, Barbara Smith of Lakeland Fla., Dorothy Walker of Warrendale, and Kathryn Bowman of Williamsport; 3 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service Saturday at 10 a.m. at Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
Carol Cecco
Carol Cecco, 59, of 20 Banyan St., Selinsgrove, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at home. Born Aug. 4, 1941, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Leigh Herman & Ruth Waltz. She worked for Weis Markets Inc., as a Consumer Service Director for 26 years. Previously, she was a school teacher in Ashtabula, Ohio. She attended St. John’s United Methodist Church, Sunbury, was a member of the Mary Derr Rockefeller Aux., the Pa. Assoc. of Family Consumer Services, and the college Economics Alumni Group. She was a co-chairman for the Love & Care Street Fair. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1959 and Mansfield University in 1963 with a BS in Home Economics. Surviving, besides her father of Williamsport, are her husband, Robert F. Cecco; sisters Nancy L. Nagle, Mechanicsburg, and Jean M. Shilo, Sunbury; 1 niece and 1 nephew; 2 grand nieces; 2 grand nephews; stepchildren Edward Cecco and Melissa Cecco Carl, both of Catawissa RD; and 3 step grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10 at Zweier’s, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Ruth R. Leupold, 79, of Shady Acres Trailer Court, Antes Fort, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at home. Her husband, Harry A. Leupold, died Feb. 7, 1995. Surviving are 2 daughters, Ruth Marks & Carol Stover; 2 sons, Harry A. Jr. & William L.; 3 sisters, Mable Morgret, Elva Edwards & Grace Rogers; 4 brothers, William, Robert, Russell & Richard Rogers; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Marietta F. Martino
Marietta Fave Martino, 85, of RD1 Morris, died Feb. 10, 2001, at her home. She was the wife of the late Minor L. Martino who died Oct. 18, 1996. Born Sept. 18, 1915 in Tiadaghton, she was the daughter of the late John and Antionette Lettanzio Fave. She was a homemaker and a 1932 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Morris and the Wellsboro Catholic Church ReNew Group. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Rita & Donald Orr, Cairo, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph & Joyce Martino, Mainesburg; several nieces and nephews; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Martino in 1983. Friends may call at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 9 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Michael J. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Morris, PA or to a charity of one’s choice.
Joseph C. Harvey
Joseph Charles “Pop” Harvey, 67, of Second St., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1933, in Williamsport, he was a son of Arnold & Edith Schmilifski Harvey. He and his wife, the former Gloria Evans, celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in June. Retiring in 1989, he was a machinist for 33 years for Bethlehem Steel. He was a Little League Manager in the 1980’s. Surviving, besides his wife, are 4 sons, Joseph, Michael and Robert, all of this city and Clifford of Garner, N.C.; 4 daughters, Catherine Perry and Margaret Harvey, both of this city, Theresa Embick of Jersey Shore, and Dawn Ungard of Montoursville; 13 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Arnold of Shinglehouse, Ronald of Bristol, Patrick and Duanne, both of this city; 2 sisters, Mary Babula of this city and Sharon Cusson of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald and Gary. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allen & Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Curtis C. Williams
Curtis Carlyle Williams, 46, of Canton, died suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. He was the husband of the former Donna Blymiller. He was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1972, and Philco-Ford Institute. He was a veteran of the US Army Special Forces, and had been employed by Canton Manufacturing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Leora Wilcox, sons Tommy “T.J.” Williams and Steve Williams, 6 grandchildren, one brother, 2 stepbrothers, 2 sisters, 2 stepsisters, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, a great niece, a great nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton, Wednesday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Phyllis Hunter and again Saturday at 3 p.m., with Rev. Doug Graybill. There will be a one hour viewing before each service. Interment will be private.
Winifred L. Franquet
Winifred L. Franquet, 66, of Williamsport, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born July 13, 1934, in this city, she was a daughter of the late Paul A. Sr. and Theone Bradley Franquet. Retiring in 1992, she worked as a clerk for the postal system’s Reach Road office for 25 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was a 1952 graduate of Williamsport High School. She enjoyed bowling, participating in several leagues in the area. Surviving, besides her mother of this city, are two brothers, Paul A. Jr. of this city and Julius C. II of Shinglehouse. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St, with the Rev. Theodore L. Cockley officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Lucile L. Ritter
Lucile L. Ritter, 96, of Mountville Pines, Mountville, formerly of Montoursville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in Lancaster. Born April 12, 1904, in Unityville, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Dora J. Robbins Long. She was raised at the Odd Fellow Orphanage in Sunbury and graduated from Sunbury High School in 1922. Lucile retired in 1970 from the former L.L. Stearns, Williamsport, where she had been employed as a seamstress. She was a member of the Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary, the Grand Army of the Republic, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member of Church of Our Saviour, Montoursville. Her husband, Luther Ellsworth Ritter, died Dec. 9, 1968. Her daughter, Alice Jane Baker Plankenhorn, also preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Harry E. of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, Gary, Keith & Robert Ritter, Lou Ann Baker Wilson and Lisa Plankenhorn Robinson, and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be Rev. Wilbur L. Scranton III. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.

Mary Stapleton Phillips, 76, of Sarasota, Fla., died Jan. 29, 2001. She was the daughter of Rev. Charles E. McCoy, former rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Williamsport. She was born in Providence, R.I., and lived in Williamsport, Ventnor, N.J., and Plainfield, N.J. She was the widow of George M. Stapleton, Plainfield, who died in 1984 and Albert J. Phillips, Plainfield and Longboat Kay, Fla., who died in 1995. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betsy Stapleton Mourer, in 1983, a brother William, and sisters Carolyn and Agnes. Surviving are a sister, Alice Braun of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Sally Campolucci of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Charles Stapleton of North Plainfield, 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
