Edward James Florey
Edward James Florey, 85, long time local resident, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at HCR Manor Care North, Williamsport, Pa. Mr. Florey had been employed as a custodian at the Divine Providence Hospital for more than 20 years before retiring in 1980. He had been a member of Allegheny Grange, and AARP. He was born at Williamsport, October 29, 1915, a son of James Edward and Sarah Elizabeth Bardo Florey. He was preceded in death by a brother, William D. Florey, and a sister, Meriam E. Florey Surviving are a sister, Florence Egli, Muncy, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Noll’s 1 E. Central Ave., S.Wmspt. The Rev. Preston H. Dusman, a retired Lutheran pastor will officiate. Internment will be at Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Harriet E. Dobson
Harriet E. Dobson, 93, formerly of Montoursville, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Valley View Nursing Center, where she had been 3 years. Her husband, William W. Dobson, died April 22, 1986. She was a member of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon and sang in the choir. She was born July 4, 1907, in Shamokin, the daughter of Wilson and Ida Seifert Rudisill. She is survived by her daughter, H. Lorraine Swank of Montoursville; a grandson, Randy L. Swank of Montoursville; and two great grandchildren, Melanie and Andrew Swank. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Mark Applebee officiating. Burial will be in Nurthumberland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.

Jazmyn R. Shannon
Jazmyn Renay Shannon, infant daughter of Jennifer M. Gibson and Robert R. Shannon, was born and died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in Geisinger Medical Center. Surviving, besides her parents, both of Williamsport, are maternal grandmother, Jayne C. Austin of Portville, NY; paternal grandfather, James H. Gibson Sr., of Williamsport; extended grandparents, Wendy L. Gibson of Williamsport and Floyd A. McIlwain of Canton; 4 uncles, Jeremy L. Rodriguez of Philadelphia, James H. Gibson II and Nicholas Gibson, both of Williamsport, and Harris Gibson in S.C.; 2 aunts, Wanda Bucklew in Virginia and Christy L. Gibson in N.C. A graveside service will be held Saturday (time to be announced), at Montoursville Cemetery, with the Pastor Sandy Foster officiating. Arrangements by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.

James S. Neufer
James S. Neufer, 71, of 1551 Green Mountain Rd., Trout Run, died Feb. 18, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Carol J. Shedden, were married Jan. 28, 1961. Born Feb. 23, 1929 in Montgomery, he was the son of Alford & Nora Phillips Neufer. He was a welder for the former Anchor-Darling Valve. He was a member of Cogan House Christian Church, was a former Church Deacon, Trustee and Vacation Bible School Teacher. He enjoyed woodcutting, was an avid hunter, and served in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, 2 sons, Barry J., of Wmspt., Allen R. of Linden; 4 daughters, Sandra L. Polcyn of Wmspt., Sylvia J. Klopp of Linden, Cheryl J. Justice & Patti J. Neufer, both of Wappapello, MO; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Henry of Muncy, Lewis of S. Wmspt., Chuck of Northumberland; and 1 sister Eva Roussey of Bronson, Mich. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. in the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the church, 3678 Cogan House Road, Trout Run, PA 17771. The family will provide the flowers. Interment will be in Twin Hill’s Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Redmond’s 331 Elmira St., Williamsport.

Mary L. Kibbe
Mary L. Kibbe, 64, of Hepburn St., died Sunday, February 18, at Williamsport Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband William Kibbe. Born on December 18, 1936 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Harold and Esther Nuss Yoder. Surviving are two daughters Mary Wagoner of So. Williamsport and Diana Lynn of Williamsport, three sisters, Clara Allen of Avis, Mildred Vogel of Williamsport, Marion Bennett of Williamsport, a brother Harold Yoder Jr. of NY, 5 grandchildren and her companion Kenneth Thorne of Williamsport. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Lynn, Jr. The funeral will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Maneval Funeral Home, 500 West Fourth Street with the Rev. Michael Holcomb of the Door Fellowship officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Joann M. Barneski
Joann M. Barneski, 87, of Rochester, NY, formerly of Morris Run, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001. Surviving are her close friend, William Higgins; niece Judy (Jim) Creeley; nephew Gary Bubacz; great nephews Jimmy Creeley and Garret Bubacz; great niece Melissa Bubacz; and sister-in-law Helen Baranowski.

Earl E. Trostle
Earl E. Trostle, 86, of 2440 Four Mile Drive, Montoursville, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services, Williamsport. He and his wife, the former Violet Brungart, were married Sept. 4, 1943. Born Dec. 23, 1914, in Williamsport, he was the son of H. Willis & Dora Fink Trostle. He worked as a Chief Switchman for Bell Telephone Co. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for over 60 years, a member of FA&M Ivy Lodge 397, the Williamsport Consistory, and Bell Telephone Pioneers. Earl was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Army Signal Corps. He is survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul and two sisters, Ruth Olsen and Margaret Kleese. The funeral will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., at Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., with his pastor, the Rev. Roy W. Johnsen officiating. Interment will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Elizabeth A. Yeagle
Elizabeth A. “Bea” Yeagle, 86, formerly of Allenwood RR 1, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, near Allenwood, a daughter of the late I. Frank and Millie Crossgrove Drick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Yeagle, who died in 1990. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Max A. of RR 1 Montgomery; 2 daughters, Judy C. McCormick of RR 3 Williamsport and Diane G. O’Neil of RR 5 Bloomsburg; a nephew, Harold F. Drick of RR 1 Allenwood; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Luckenbill, and 3 brothers, Joseph, Fred and Donald. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 715 Pikes Peak Road, Allenwood. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church by the Rev. Max W. Furman, her pastor. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stained Glass Fund of St. John’s U. M. Church, c/o Rev. Max Furman, 433 Gap Road, Allenwood, PA 17810. A service of Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., Watsontown.

Betty J. Terry
Betty J. Terry, 81, of Carlisle, formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Carlisle Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1919, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Alfred B. and Caroline Haas Hoover. She was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport H.S., and was a homemaker. Surviving are a son, William of Williamsport; 2 daughters, Judy Weaver of Avis and Bonnie Heiney of Chesterton, IN; 20 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, 3:30 p.m., at Ewing Brother’s, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter officiating. there will be no visitation. Burial at the convenience of the family.

Marion E. Klopp
Marion E. Klopp, 87, of 2836 Euclid Ave., DuBoistown, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, John E. Klopp, died Oct. 2, 1995. Born June 17, 1913, in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of John and Rebecca Lehman Shire. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, South Williamsport. She enjoyed her family, knitting and playing cards. Surviving are a son, Robert E. of Riverside; a daughter, Dorothy A. Godfrey of Montoursville; a sister, Ethel Engler of DuBoistown; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John L. on April 10, 1962 and by 2 brothers, Lester and Clarence Shire. Friends will be received at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Morris Smith will conduct a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, of St. Lawrence Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel of Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers.

Thelma E. Laidacker
Thelma E. (Satteson) Laidacker, 77, of 538 Laidacker Rd., Muncy, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Skilled Nursing Unit, Muncy. She and her husband, Nevin R., would have been married 57 years on May 27. Born Dec. 31, 1923, in Milton, she was the daughter of Ralph O. and Margaret (Sholly) Satteson. She was a homemaker and member of the Moreland Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Surviving, besides her husband at home, are a son, Keith L. (Peggy) Laidacker, Orangeville; 3 daughters, Donna R. (Dale) Stackhouse, Unityville, Molly K. (Scott) Delany & Crystal L. (Rodney) Hearn, both of Muncy; 5 brothers, Williard Satteson, Montgomery, William Satteson, Limestoneville, Franklin Satteson, Pottsgrove, George Satteson, Utah, and John Satteson, New Columbia; 2 sisters, Louise Hoover, Milton & Lucille Zellers, West Milton; 7 grandchildren. Predeceased are 2 sons, Richard & James; a daughter, Cynthia; a brother, Kenneth Satteson; a sister, Rachael Laidacker. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Moreland Baptist Church, 118 Moreland Baptist Church Road, Muncy, with her pastor, Rev. Carl G. Harris, officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery. Friends received at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Contributions may be made in her name to the Moreland Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 Moreland Baptist Rd., Muncy, PA 17756.

James R. Opp
James R. Opp, 75, of 166 Mt. Equity Rd., Pennsdale, died Monday, February 19, 2001 at home. He and his wife, the former Arlene Reaser, would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary on April 28th. Jim was born on November 2, 1925, in Muncy Creek Twp., the son of Howard C. and Ione Buck Opp. He was a 1943 graduate of the former Muncy Creek High School. Jim owned and operated J. R. Opp Co. in Muncy Creek Twp. for 27 years, retiring in 1985. Currently he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muncy, where he served as Trustee and on the committee for Missions. He was a former member of the Clarkstown Methodist Church for 38 years, where he served on the Administrative Council for many years and was Chairman for several years. He and his wife served in work camps for the United Methodist Church in the U.S., Uruguay and Sierra Leone. He was leader for one work camp at McCurdy School in New Mexico. He served one year on the Board of Work Camps for the United Methodist Church, and also participated at a work camp in Germany for Global Outreach, NY. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 69th Infantry in the European Theater. He was on the Board of Directors at Muncy Bank & Trust Co. for 25 years, having just received a plaque this week honoring him for his years of service.
He was a 50-year member of the Roland Ritter Post #268 American Legion, a life member of the N.R.A., a member of Gideon’s International for many years and a member of the Tiadaghton Chapter of the S.A.R. In addition, he volunteered at the Son Light House, the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Bridge Haven, a prison ministry. Jim was a woodworker. Following retirement, he set up a workshop in his home and made crafts to give away. He especially enjoyed making crosses and music boxes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a niece, Roberta Mitchell of Ocean Grove, NJ and 2 nephews, Frank Reaser of Cedar Grove, NJ and James Reaser of Milton. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at his church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy. Officiating will be Rev. Michael R. Gardy, his pastor. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers, and suggests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA 17756. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Harold J. Doebler
Harold John Doebler, 75, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, formerly of DuBoistown, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, in Florida. He retired from the FAA as chief of the Air Traffic Controllers after 36 years of service. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert C. and Zelda V. Whitnack Doebler and a great grandson, Mathew Luttrell. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Verda Rene Doebler; son, Alan Doebler; daughters, Patricia Doherty, Diana Cottrell and Barbara Williams; sisters, Lois Kellet of Montoursville, Kathryn Chaapel of Cogan Station; a brother, Dale Doebler of Williamsport; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services were held in Florida.

Harry H. King
Harry H. King, 86, of 1251 Rural Ave., Rose View Court, Williamsport, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Manor Care South where he was admitted Jan. 12, 2001. He and his wife the former Pauline I. Wertman celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Aug. 10, 2000. Mr. King retired as President of the former Kline & Co., Williamsport. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, the Eureka Lodge # 355 F&AM and Past Master and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a past chairman of the Lycoming County United Way, a past president of the Williamsport Chamber of Commerce, and a former board member of the former Northern Central Bank. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was born December 16, 1914, in Montoursville, the son of Harry M. and Emma K. Hoffman King. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Gary L. King of Detroit, Mich., a daughter, Judy K. Ehret of Schnecksville, PA, and two grandchildren, Shannon and Andrew Ehret. The funeral will be Friday, 11 a.m. at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Paul C. Murphy, his pastor officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Edward G. Witkowski
Edward G. Witkowski, 65, of RR 2 McClure, passed away Feb. 15, 2001, in Florida. He was born March 14, 1935, in Ambridge, the son of the late Anthony S. and A. Pauline Dobrzynski Witkowski. On Nov. 7, 1964, he married Patricia A. Schumm.
He retired from SUN Area Technical School, New Berlin, where he taught machine tool technology. He had also worked as a Master Machinist for Inland Steel, DuPont and Hercules Research Center. He taught machine shop at Marple Vocational Technical School, Broomall, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, flying and teaching. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian E. Witkowski, RR 2 McClure; and four sisters, Sophia Witkowski-Smith, Patricia A. Burger, Norma J. Kobus, and Karen L. Schulte. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Aurand Funeral Homes by George Schulte. Interment will be in the Adamsburg Cemetery, Beaver Springs. Friends may call in the funeral home Friday from 4-9 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 505 N. Parkway Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103. Arrangements can also be found at www.legacy.com.
