Dorothy G. Paul, 80, of 201 W. Mulburry St., Shamokin, formerly of N. Marshal St., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Her husband, Malvin E. Paul, died Feb. 20, 1998. Born Oct. 11, 1920, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of George W. Heebner and Helen Maude Gwinner, and step mother Sarah E. Beaver. She worked as a clerk in Moser’s store and Singer Sewing Machine before becoming a full time mother. She was a 1938 graduate of Shamokin High School and a member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Shamokin, where she served as a church Deacon and sang in the choir for over 20 years, also serving various offices of the Women’s Association and committees. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Ned (Karen) Sodrick of Paxinos, Mrs. Dr. Mario (Luanne) Cornacchione of Wilkes Barre; 4 grandchildren, Benjamin & Sarah Sodrick and Jesse & Louis Cornacchione; sister and brother, Mrs. Helen Kanaskie of Williamsport and George Heebner of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Lillian Heebner. The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Farrow Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery. William S. McCormick
William S. “Mac” McCormick, 76, of Lewisburg, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at home. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, the former Fayleen Erb Snyder, 1969 and his 2nd wife, the former Dorothy Shemory McCaffe, 1988. Born July 25, 1924, in Spring Garden, he was a son of Raymond & Nellie Ritter McCormick. He retired in 1986 from H. Warshow and Sons, Milton. He was a Lutheran and a life member of the American Legion Post, Watsontown, Loyal Order of Moose, Mifflinburg, VFW Post 80298, NRA, AARP, and an Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are a daughter & son-in-law, Sara & Charles Dunkle, Lewisburg; 2 sisters, Arlene Plassard, Indiana & Betty Oberdorf, Montgomery; his companion of 13 years, Jean Rider, Allport; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a niece & 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers and 2 grandsons. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Shaw’s, Market & 8th Sts., Lewisburg, with Rev. John H. Shaw III officiating. Burial in Uniontown Cemetery, Allenwood. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight. Graveside military services. Jennie E. Aikey
Mrs. Jennie E. Aikey, 86, of 1692 Devils Elbow Road, Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in the Williamsport Hospital. Born Feb. 19, 1915, in Swissdale, Penna., she was the daughter of Ward Reeder and the former Annie Heck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Aikey, July 12, 1984. For many years she was a member of the Jersey Shore Assembly of God Church and was retired as an L.P.N. from the Jersey Shore Hospital. Surviving are 4 daughters, Ann L. Underwood of Jersey Shore, Jane E. Barton of Orleans, Mass., Shirley R. Llord of Williamsport, and Linda L. Aikey of Lock Haven; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Paul Reeder of Swissdale, Lewis Reeder of Swissdale and Warren Reeder of Lock Haven; 2 sisters, Maude Wagner of Woolrich and Irene Schrack of Avis. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Charles J. (Jim) Aikey and 2 granddaughters, Susan Davis and Susan A. Schesley. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Assembly of God Church, 320 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, Penna. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Friday till time of services in the church. Rita E. Cavanaugh
Rita E. Cavanaugh, 85, of 1218 N. Market St., Williamsport, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Williamsport Home. Born Nov. 15, 1915, in Forks Twp., Sullivan County, she was a daughter of Patrick and Agnes Hassen Cavanaugh. She retired in 1986 from GTE Sylvania, Montoursville. She was a member of Church of the Annunciation and the Annunciation Senior Citizens. Surviving are 6 sisters, Agnes Protasio of Cogan Station, Teresa English, Madonna and Marcella Cavanaugh, all of Williamsport, Doris Robinson of Atwater, CA, and Sister Mary Alicia Cavanaugh of Sisters of St. Joseph, Jersey City, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Joseph and James and 4 sisters, Marie Harer and Catherine, Alice and Regina Cavanaugh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 9:30 a.m., in the church, 702 W. 4th St., with the Rev. John Manno, her pastor officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. 3rd St., from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, with a Rosary at 8 p.m.
Edward B. Evans
Edward B. Evans, 77, formerly of Oak Grove Gardens, Avis, died February 12, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in Bath, New York. His wife Christine Mullen Evans died in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are 4 stepdaughters, Doris McMullen of Oval, Donna Freed of Lewistown, Beverly Denius of Mifflinburg, and Betty Miller of Lewisburg, 1 sister, Shirley Rhoads of Beaver Dam, New York, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, James R. Miller and a brother, Wesley Leonard. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Third Street United Methodist Church, 931 East Third St. with the Reverend Robert Wallace officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Kaufman Funeral Home, 2102 Northway Road.
Beatrice R. Ganoe
Beatrice R. Ganoe, 76, of 137 Barlow Rd., Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Williamsport & Woolrich, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Susan L. Davis, with whom she lived. Born July 31, 1924, in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of Lorenzo E. and Alma Ergott Wurster. She was a Protestant, a 1943 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and retired from Avco, now Textron-Lycoming, after many years of service. Surviving, in addition to her daughter, are a son, George G. of Yorktown, VA; a daughter, Bonnie K. VanArt of Mifflinville; a brother, Larry E. Wurster of Clearfield; a sister, Lucille A. Weidler of Rauchtown; 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a son, Lance C. Ganoe, June 22, 1976. A memorial service will be held March 16, 1 p.m, at Woolrich Community United Methodist Church.
Joseph B. Myers
Joseph B. Myers, 93, of 68 South Main Street, Hughesville, PA, and formerly of South Williamsport, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at his home. His wife, the former Thelma M. Corderman, preceded him in death on November 9, 1983. Mr. Myers was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Leroy O. Buck Post 7863, VFW, DuBoistown, and the National Rifle Association. Her retired in 1973 from the former Glyco Chemical Company, now Lonza, where he had been the boiler house operator. He was born January 27, 1908, at Pleasant Gap, PA, the son of Abraham Horner and Rebecca Maude Buttermore Myers. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joann Russell and Mrs. Jane Gardner, both of Williamsport, a sister, Mrs. Rebecca DeWald, DuBoistown, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., S. Williamsport. The Rev. R. Edward Cope, pastor of South Williamsport United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.
Charles E. Sawyer
Charles E. Sawyer, age 88, of Trout Run, Pa., died February 19, 2001, at Manor Care North, Williamsport, Pa. He was the husband of Mary M. Faivre Sawyer whom he married August 22, 1946 in Wellsboro, Pa. He was born October 14, 1912, in Elmira, N.Y., the son of the late John V. and Grace May Maneval Sawyer. He was a “1932” graduate of Williamsport High School and was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time in Canada and his dog, Alex. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Faivre Sawyer; daughter, Doris Pittenger (George); sons, Charles Sawyer (Pat), Ronald Sawyer (Kathy) and John Sawyer; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John H. Sawyer and a sister, Thelma Gibson. Clifford B. Worthington
Clifford Burnard Worthington, 87, formerly of the Unityville area, died at his residence, 255 Kessler Hollow Road, Benton, after being stricken suddenly on Tuesday, February 20, 2001. His wife, the former Edna Lucille Wood, died in September 1987. He farmed in Jordan Township all of his life and also worked at Girton Manufacturing Company in Millville, Lycoming Construction, the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation and Jordan Township as a truck operator. He was a member of the Faith Church in Lairdsville and the Allegheny Grange # 1843. He enjoyed hunting, farming and gardening. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vivian I. and John Hall of Jordan Township; and two brothers, Thomas Sylvan Worthington of Stevensville and Edson Sherman Worthington of Unityville. He is predeceased by five brothers, Cleon Emanuel, Raymond “Frank”, Walter Lee, Grant Larue and Harry “Milroy” Worthington; and four sisters, Rosa Mildred Ring, Celia Edna Smith, Ocie Mae Holdren and Ella Alberta Fahrenbach. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 East Water Street, Hughesville with the Rev. Roy B. Gordon, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Unityville. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Marian B. Moser, 68, of White Deer, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001. Her husband of 43 years, Lloyd Moser, died Feb. 2, 1994. Survivors include a brother, Bobby Lawton of Montgomery RD. William H. Allen, 82, formerly of Sugarloaf, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the home of his son, William G. Allen, Tallow Bottom Rd., Muncy, following a brief illness. His wife, the former Martha Smith, died in July, 1990. Born June 6, 1918, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Sura G. and Mabel Fitzer Allen. Surviving are 4 sons, David W., Lawton, OK, Christian Lee, Bloomsburg, Mark W., Lebanon, and William G., Muncy; a daughter, Sandra E. Allen, Austin, TX; a sister, Marguerite Doletski, Shickshinny; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., from the Mark S. Bernard C. Cowden
Bernard C. Cowden, 53, of 201 Hill St., Mahopac, N.Y., a former city resident, died Feb. 21, 2001, at Quincy Medical Center Emergency Room while on a business trip in the Boston area. Born March 24, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Raymond J. & Alice P. Sullivan Cowden. He and his wife, the former Diane S. Sweet, were married April 28, 1973. Mr. Cowden was a Pharmaceutical Rep. for Innovex, Inc., a member of St. John’s Evangelical Roman Catholic Church, and a graduate of Lycoming College. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Stefan B. at home; a daughter, Cara D. at home; a brother, Dr. John & Leslie Cowden of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a niece, Lisa Nice of Cincinnati, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, 10:30 a.m., at Church of the Annunciation, 702 W. Kay J. Douty, 63, of 54 Ridge Rd., RD Mill Hall, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit. She and her husband, Ronald E. Douty, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary June 1. Born Nov. 22, 1937, in Logan Township, she was the daughter of George and Adelia Heckman Kerstetter. She was a 1955 graduate of Sugar Valley High School, a member of the Salona Lutheran Church and worked at the Lock Haven University Book Store. Surviving, besides her husband of RD Mill Hall, are a son, Steven C. of RD Mill Hall; 2 brothers, George Kerstetter of Linden and Daniel Kerstetter of Tylersville; 2 sisters, Emma Henderson of Spring Mills and Bettie Barner of Lamar; and 3 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. and a sister, Geraldine. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2 p.m., at Salona Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Eric Deibler officiating. William G. Drum
William G. Drum, 75, of 34 High St., Montgomery, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Edna M. Weary, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary March 14. Born June 13, 1925, in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Ruben and Julia Nevraski Drum. Retiring in 1990, he was employed for 45 years as a supervisor at Valley Farms Dairy, Williamsport. He was a 1943 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School and was an avid fisherman. An Army veteran of WWII, he served as a scout in the 6th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop Mechanized in New Guinea and Luzon in the Philippines and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Surviving, besides his wife, are 1 daughter & son-in-law, Darena & Andrew Follmer of Montoursville; 3 sons & 1 daughter-in-law, Ronald L. Drum of Montgomery, Ricki D. & Tina Drum of Littleton, CO, Randy L. Drum of Muncy; 1 sister, Shirley Corson of Milton; 6 grandchildren, Allison and Sandy Follmer, Erin Travland, Alexandra, Tyler and Zachary Drum. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Ruth Drum and 3 brothers, Richard, Carl and Donald Drum. Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family on Monday from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
