Kay E. Freezer, 60, of 1814 Field Station Rd., Trout Run, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at her residence. Her husband, Ronald D. Freezer, Sr., died April 2, 1995. Mrs. Freezer had worked as a clerk for Bitner’s General Store in Trout Run and was a member of the Rose Valley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was born June 21, 1940, in Bodines, the daughter of Edward and Dorothy Myers Reed. Surviving are two sons, Ronald D., Jr. and Kevin E. of Cogan Station; two daughters, Deirdre G. Saboski of Williamsport and Renee L. Freezer at home; a brother, Thomas P. Reed of Williamsport; 2 sisters, Dorothy L. Reed of Williamsport and Joann V. Burkhart of Hughesville; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Reed. The funeral will be Monday, 2 p.m., at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Sandy Foster, her pastor officiating. Burial will be in Rose Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gamble Twp. Rocco F. Mastropiecro Sr.
Rocco F. Mastropiecro Sr., 79, husband of Mary Tosco Mastropiecro, of 73 Brookside Ave., Naugatuck, Conn., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001. Born Jan. 20, 1922, he was a son of the late Rocco & Rosina Iaguzzi Mastropiecro. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Rocco F. Jr., of Naugatuck; 2 daughters, Judith Folmar of Williamsport and Debra Sill of Naugatuck; a sister, Phyllis Wilson of Naugatuck; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. James M. Holt
James M. Holt, 83, of 93 Holt Rd., Williamsport, a resident of RoseView Center for the last 2 1/2 years, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. His wife, the former Viola M. Noble, died July 2, 1995. Born Nov. 2, 1917, in Williamsport, he was a son of Charles F. and Carrie M. Lovelace Holt.
He worked for the former Armour Leather Co., Robert Wagner Masonry and retired as a heavy equipment operator with Old Lycoming Twp. For many years, Mr. Holt owned and operated a produce farm for area residents. He was a member of Oak Grove Alliance Church. Surviving are a daughter, I. Cheryl Miller of Williamsport; a son, James D. at home; 3 brothers, J. Thomas, Lawrence L., and William A. Holt, all of Williamsport; a granddaughter, Melissa Norris; a great grandson, Gabriel A. Fullmer. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Miller and 2 sisters, Bernadine R. Wacker and C. Jane Stiber. The funeral will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with his pastor, the Rev. Timothy E. Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery. Betty Jane Hall Jones, 63, of 103 Sun Rise Drive, Eatonton, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton. Born April 7, 1937, in Lycoming County, she was the daughter of Melvin L. and Lillian Weaver Hall. She is survived by a son, Michael Cowher, and his wife Cathy of Macon, Ga., a sister, Virginia Cowher, also of Macon, and 2 grandchildren, Chadwick and Kinsley Cowher, both of Eatonton, Ga. Graveside service will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m., at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Roy D. Meyer officiating. Arrangements by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Bartha
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Bartha, 69, of Dry Run Road, Trout Run, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 10, 1931, in Bloomsburg, she was the daughter of Edwin and Alice Miller Wainwright. She was a homemaker and member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Ralston. On Dec. 10, 1949, in New Jersey, she married Charles E. Bartha, who survives, along with a daughter, Alice K. McGrath of Trout Run; a sister, Eleanor Kostenbauder of Eden, Md.; two grandsons; and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles M. on Jan. 3, 1979 and by two brothers, Edwin and George Wainwright. There will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Pennsdale Cemetery. Her pastor, the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, of St. Aloysius Catholic Church will officiate. Mary E. Davies
Mary Elizabeth Davies, 95, of the Williamsport Home died February 21, 2001, at her residence. She was born February 6, 1906 in Hawley, PA, the daughter of William and Alice Runyon Edwards. Mrs. Davies was the widow of William J. Davies of Brynmawr, Wales who died in 1967, and they became residents of Williamsport in 1930. During her residency in Williamsport she was active in parent teacher and civic activities. She was a graduate of Hawley High School and the former Stroudsburg State Teachers Normal School. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was an avid Bridge player. Surviving are 2 sons, James A. Davies of Pawleys Island, SC and W. Ronald Davies of San Diego, CA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with the Curate of her church, Rev. Veronica Chappell officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation and family will provide the flowers.
Julia M. Haag
Julia M. Haag, 84, passed away at the Williamsport Hospital, Friday, February 22, 2001 following a long illness. She put up a strong and courageous fight. Her final days were made more peaceful and restful by the loving care of her sister Stella. Born in New Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of Michael and Tekla Halabura. Julia worked for many years in the sewing factories in and around her hometown. She moved to Williamsport in April 1934. Julia worked at the former Sylvania Photo Flash plant in Montoursville. She retired in 1982 after 36 years of service. She was a communicant of the Ascension Church. Julia loved doing special things for her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also, her many friends and neighbors. She received an immense pleasure from her love of gardening. Julia enjoyed traveling, meeting people and seeing new places. She was truly a caring mother and grandmother, always bringing happy and good times to her family. She was the best mom and gram. She is survived by two sons, Walter M. and Richard M.; five grandchildren, Christine, Pamela, Deborah, Susan and Steven; and three great grandchildren, Lauren, Emma and Alyssa. Also, two brothers, Stanley and Stephen and two sisters, Stella and Mary. Julia was predeceased by one sister, Eva and three brothers, Peter, John and Michael. Her sons wish to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to all of Julia’s caregivers, especially her sister Stella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Ascension Church, 2101 Linn Street in Williamsport, with the Rev. Stephen J. Halabura, Rev. Charles J. Cummings and Rev. Joseph B. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends and family may pay their respects from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Edward L. Bradley, 39, of 1638 Andrews Place, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at home. He was an Assistant Chef at King’s Inn, he enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking and woodworking. Born March 28, 1961 in Williamsport, he was the son of Fabian G., Sr. and Caroline E. Ott Bradley. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Jeffrey C. Motter, of Williamsport; 3 brothers: Fabian G. Jr., of Sunbury and Michael V. of Williamsport; 2 sisters: Faye A. Horn, of Williamsport and Bonnie S. Clements, of Nesbit. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, James A. and Travis S. Bradley. Ronald L. Hutchinson
Ronald L. Hutchinson, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in his home at 1525 Frase St., South Plainfield, N.J. 17080. Born in Williamsport, he lived in S. Plainfield, N.J. since 1964. He was a supervisor, facilities operations, for AT&T, Piscataway, 32 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of Lewisburg American Legion, American Legion Chaumont Post 243, S. Plainfield, S. Plainfield BPO Elks Lodge 2298, and Wesley United Methodist Church, S. Plainfield. Surviving are his wife, Maudrie A. Hutchinson; mother, Rhea Barner Fry of Sunbury; sons, Matthew of Bangor & Ronald Mark of Daytona Beach, FL; brother, Floyd of St. Petersburg, FL; 3 grandchildren. Sara E. Jacobs
Sara E. Jacobs, 83, of 798 W. Edwin St. and formerly of Hepburnville, died Feb. 22, 2001 at Sycamore Manor following a brief illness.
Her husband, Carl M. Jacobs, died March 3, 1971. She had worked for several area dry cleaners and also the Arrow Shirt Co. She was a member of Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church and enjoyed bingo, crafts and playing cards. She was also active on various committees at the high rise where she lived. Born October 2, 1917, in Carlisle, Pa., she was a daughter of Joseph and Sally Weaver Windemaker. Surviving are two sons, Al Jacobs, Rising Sun, MD; Nelson Jacobs, Myerstown, PA; four daughters, Joyce Rathmell, Cogan Station; JoAnn McMullan and Janet Barone, city; and Judy Myers, Lancaster, PA; two sisters, Dorthy Jane Jumper and Ethel Britton, both of Carlisle; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Predeceasing her were two brothers, Joe & Robert; a sister, Irene; a grandchild and a great grandchild. Gail M. Balliet, 48, of 50 Chestnut St. Ext., Muncy, died Saturday, February 24, 2001, at home. She and her husband, David, would have observed their 30th wedding anniversary on June 5. Gail was born October 8, 1952 in Philadelphia, the daughter of Carl G. and Doris Bowers Sullivan. She retired in 1998 after 21 years with Schnadig Corp., Montoursville. She was a member of Keystone Hook & Ladder Co., Muncy. Gail was a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, Muncy. In addition to her husband, David, and her mother, Doris of Hughesville, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher & Heather Balliet of Muncy; 2 brothers, Michael C. Sullivan of Picture Rocks and Timothy G. Sullivan of Sunburg; 3 sisters, Joanne Sue Baxter of Tampa, FL, Jane C. Stugart of Tivoli and Peggy Coniglio of Greeley; 2 grandchildren, Abby Gail Balliet and Noach David Balliet, both of Muncy; and her maternal grandmother, Blanche Bowers of Hughesville. Evangeline “Eva” I. Jeirles, 39, 607 W. Walnut St., Lock Haven, died February 24, 2001 at Geisinger Medical Center. She was born on November 5, 1961, the daughter of Ralph E. Jeirles Sr. and Betty J. Michaels Jeirles. Surviving, besides her mother, are two daughters; Faith Ann Jeirles and Emily E. Jeirles both of Lock Haven; two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from noon until the service starts. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Curtis L. Phillips, 14, Turbotville, died Friday, Feb. 23. Survived by parents Frank J. Phillips, with whom he lived, Mary Ann (Morton) Phillips, Watsontown, two brothers, Anthony Sampson, Montgomery, two sisters, two grandmothers. E. Arlene Robbins, 70, of 5084 Lycoming Creek Road, Cogan Station died on February 23, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Center, North where she had resided since January 29. Mrs. Robbins was the widow of Melvin I. Robbins, Jr. who died in October 1994. She was born January 15, 1931, in Williamsport the daughter of Harold M. and Bernice I. Bower Wheeland. She retired as a computer operator from Equitable Trust Bank in Baltimore, Md. Surviving are a son, Harold Robbins; a daughter, Bernice Terrill, both of Baltimore, Md; a sister Beryl Schaefer of Williamsport; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Robbins and a sister, Norma Roedts. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp., Lycoming Co. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Pauline R. Mutchler, 80, of 315 E. Market St., Danville, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Geisinger Medical Center. Born June 24, 1920 in Larryville, Pa., she was a daughter of William and Esther Hughes Myers. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Watsontown. She was an avid bowler and loved to crochet. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Lester; a son Fred Yeager III of Milton; 3 daughters, Mrs. William (Vivian) Kleese of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Keith (Carol) Hall of Linden and Sherry Foust of Danville; a brother, George Myers of Jersey Shore; a sister, Alice Young, of Jersey Shore; 17 grandchildren and 32 great- grandchildren. Amelia P. Smith, 96, of 1251 Rural Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 in Rose View Center. Her husband, Melvin Smith, preceded her in death Nov. 10, 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Born Aug. 18, 1904 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Joseph and Ludmilla Kyska Chrapek. Surviving are a son, Donald P. Smith, Sr. of Gaines, Pa.; two daughters, Marjorie E. Holland, of Williamsport and Delores E. Schweikle of Reading, Calif.; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
