Mary M. Sweet, 81, of 2042 Chatham Park Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Manor Care Health Services North following an extended illness. Her husband, Robert E. Sweet, Sr., died October 16, 1975. She was a member of Calvary U.M. Church. Born on September 20, 1919 in Montgomery, she was a daughter of Victor H. and Nellie S. Bailer Derr. Surviving are two sons, Don L. and Robert E. Jr., both of Williamsport, on sister, Minnie Bell Landis of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, four great-grand children. She was preceded in death by one son, Scott A. Carlisle, five brothers: John, Clarence, William, Maxwell and Robert Derr. Funeral service Wednesday, February 28, 11 a.m. at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave. with Rev. Larry Halverstadt-Cole her pastor officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 63 N. Longtime Canton resident, Edwin Joel Scott, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, at Towanda Memorial Hospital. Professional services have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese of Canton.
Shirley T. Moore
Shirley Trimble Moore, 64, of HCR-80 Lock Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at her home. Born Sept. 19, 1936, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Edward H. and Ina H. Paul Trimble. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Lock Haven University Dec. 13, 1998 and an Associate of Arts in General Studies from the Penna. College of Technology May 15, 1993. Her name is inscribed on the Freedom Bell in Germany as an outstanding high school student. Her favorite pastime was being with her family. She is survived by 1 son, Earl R. Moore of Jersey Shore; 5 daughters, Holly D. Pettit, Melody L. Ditzler, Mara L. Moore, and Ann M. Frankhouser, all of Charlton, and Erin T. Karichner of Lock Haven; 1 brother, Richard Trimble of Loyalsock; 1 sister, Linda Gansel of Cogan Station; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Also, her loving ex-husband and best friend of 42 years, Earl R. Moore Sr. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Gamble. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, 10 a.m., at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in McElhattan.
Helen Reece
Helen Reece, 93, a resident of Rose View since 1991, died there Monday, Feb. 26, 2001. Born Nov. 29, 1907, in Columbia County, she was the daughter of John & Eleanor (Smith) Reece. She was a graduate of Hughesville High School, the former Williamsport Dickinson Seminary, Bucknell University, and earned a Masters Degree from Cornell University. She did post graduate work at New York University and Columbia University. She taught at Hughesville High School & Red Bank High School, N.J. She was a member of the original staff at Northern Valley Regional High School, Demerast, N.J., where she became the chairman of the mathematics department. She traveled extensively in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. She also attended a number of Elder Hostel Programs in the U.S. and Great Britain. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and needle point. She was a life long member of the Moreland Baptist Church. She is survived by a nephew, Carl L. Reece and a niece, Mrs. Donna L. Robbins, both of Muncy. She is predeceased by a brother, Donald E. Reece. The funeral will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with her pastor, Rev. Carl G. Harris officiating. Interment will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. The family will provide the flowers. Neil K. Feerrar,
Former AAA Executive
Mr. Neil K. Feerrar, age 79, of 240 Shady Lane, Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, died Monday, February 26, 2001, in the Jersey Shore Hospital. He was born October 7, 1921, in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph A. Feerrar and the former Susan Gilbraith. He is survived by his wife, the former Madalyn Shadle. They were united in marriage May 27, 1945, in the Saint John Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. For many years, he was a member and trustee of the First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore. He graduated from the Jersey Shore High School and Williamsport Community College. During his life, he was very active and involved with his family and his community. Neil enjoyed attending his family’s sporting events and was a loyal fan of Jersey Shore Athletics. He served as parade director for the Jersey Shore Town Meeting and served on the Jersey Shore School Board. He was a township supervisor for Porter Township and served as Vice President on the Jersey Shore Cemetery Board of Directors. He was one of the founders of Harer Photo in Jersey Shore. He was a member of the board of directors for many years and also served as a past board President of AAA. In 1991, he retired from AAA after 32 years as Executive Vice President. Neil’s hobbies included bowling, fishing, hunting, playing pool, and yard work. Surviving are his wife, Madalyn Feerrar, four sons, Alan C. Feerrar of Jersey Shore, Neil Kim Feerrar of Lock Haven, Joseph K. Feerrar of Jersey Shore, Eric W. Feerrar of Jersey Shore, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, Robert Feerrar of Jersey Shore, and one sister, Mrs. Marion Rhoads of Jersey Shore. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. All are welcome to attend a public memorial service officiated by Rev. W. Keith Rockwell, which will be held Sunday, March 4, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 236 South Main Street, Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. No public visitations will be held at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers and the memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore. Fredrick B. Margaret M. Robinson
Margaret Maxine Robinson, 78, of Loganton, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Raymond Robinson, who is deceased, were married May 23, 1946. Born March 13, 1922, in Loganton, she was the daughter of Lester and Mildred Mae Bicksler Condo. She owned the Florida Farm and the Wipperwill Dairy Farm in Sugar Valley. Mrs. Robinson graduated from Renovo High School and the Edward S. Meyer Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses in Buffalo, N.Y. She served in the US Army during WWII aboard the USA Hospital Ship Chateau Thierry-Ship, receiving the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. She enjoyed gardening, was known as the Flower Lady, and enjoyed dining in hundreds of different restaurants with her son, Herschel. She will be missed dearly. Surviving are 2 sons, Herschel A. of Avis and Lester R. of Santa Rosa, Ca.; and 3 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leah Condo Ericson. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Loganton, with the Rev. Donald Fornwalt of Avis Church of Christ officiating. Ruth C. Mundrick
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Methodist Church in Williamsport on Tuesday, March 6th at 2:30 p.m., for Ruth Chambers Mundrick, 82, who died Dec. 26, 2000, of a stroke. Ruth was born March 6, 1918, in Williamsport, and was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport H.S. She married Edward L. Mundrick of Williamsport in 1938. Ruth lived in Baltimore, upstate New York, San Jose and Oregon. Survivors include a son, Edward Mundrick Jr.; a granddaughter, Jenny Mundrick Thompson; three great grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Chambers Hall and a sister-in-law, Ethel Chambers, both of Williamsport; and a brother, Carl Chambers of Lewistown.
Bernard C. Temple
Bernard C. Temple, 97, of 3704 State St., Rt. 42 Millville, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1904, in Jordan Twp., Lycoming Cty., he was the son of the late Henry & Elizabeth Clark Temple. He was a farmer, living on the farm for 64 years and drove school bus for Pine & Jordan Twps. He attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Salem. His early life was spent in Unityville. Bernard was one of the oldest members of the Salem United Methodist Church, Unityville. He had been a member of the former Oddfellows, Unityville and the Grange. He was a member of the 39 Plus Club, where he was one of the original members. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Leota Stackhouse; a son, Ronald G. Temple of Millville; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Rita) Houseknecht of Millville; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Warren Orrel Rider of RD Muncy. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Beatrice, Detta & Ellen Temple, Virginia Little and a brother, Earl Temple. Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Salem U. M. Church, with his pastor, William McNeil officiating. Burial in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1:30-2 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Salem U. M. Carmen R. Genua
Carmen R. Genua, 79, of 12 Brandon Place, Williamsport, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Rose View Center. Her husband, Frank R. Genua, died in October, 1995. Born Dec. 17, 1921, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose Taddeo Cioffi. She was a homemaker, a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, and the Christian Womens Association. Surviving are three daughters, Kay Casale and Janie Diehl, both of this city, Angela F. Keiser of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Michael F. and David B. Keiser, Stephen J. and Andrew Casale, and Jennifer Diehl; a sister, Antoinette Casale of this city; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Cioffi in Feb., 1969. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, 11 a.m., in the church, 635 Hepburn St., Williamsport, with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano, her pastor officiating. A private family Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., on Wednesday evening. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers.
