Eva R. Bower, 90, of 2423 Grand St., Williamsport, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Ralph E. Bower, died Aug. 24, 1993. Born Feb. 19, 1911, in Linden, she was the daughter of Reuben and Margaret Lovell Marquardt. Eva was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Dale Metzger’s Sunday School Class, formerly the Ethel Ayers Class, the United Methodist Women, and she also taught Elementary Sunday School. Surviving are 3 sons, Wayne E. of Albuquerque, N.M., Daryl A. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and R. Lamont of this city; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and 1 sister, Alice Driver of Mechanicsburg. The funeral will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with her pastor, the Rev. Kraig L. Faust officiating. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial in State Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to St. John’s U.M.C., 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, Pa.
George E. Ludwig
George E. Ludwig, 84, of 103 Main St., Salladasburg, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Feb. 22, 1917, in Detroit, Mich., he was a son of the late Howard E. and Georgia Bryington Ludwig. He was a retired Laborer at Kellogg’s, an Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the Metal Trades Union. Surviving are 4 sons, Howard L. and Gary J. Sr., both of Jersey Shore, Norman E. of Pine Creek and Clark C. Fisher of Salladasburg; 2 daughters, Anna J. Edkin of Salladasburg and Darlyn Heriman of Waverly, N.Y.; a brother, Martin L. Sr., of Antes Fort; a sister, Rae Clark of Deltona, FL; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Norman L. and Elmer L., and a sister, Christina L. Waltz. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Salladasburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas J. Fetterolf officiating. John H. Vandine
John H. Vandine, 77, passed peacefully away Feb. 22, 2001. He was the beloved brother of Clara, Walter, Charles, (deceased) Rachel Rupert, Arlene Barto, Bruce and Harry Vandine. He also leaves one son, Dale E. Vandine of Las Vegas, NV, with whom he lived. He suffered a lengthy illness and passed away with his son in attendance. Homer W. Clemens
Homer W. Clemens, 83, Wellsboro, died Feb. 26, 2001. He was born Dec. 23, 1917, the son of the late Samuel & Ida Van Wert Clemens. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice M. Sumner Clemens, 3 sons; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro, with Rev. Ricke Harris. Patricia E. Trimble
Patricia E. Trimble, 85, of Williamsport, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Sycamore Manor, Montoursville. She and her husband, John D. Trimble, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary Aug. 1. Born Aug. 16, 1915, in Cape Town, South Africa, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Estelle Davis McCaffrey. Retiring in 1977, she was employed for 30 years by Aetna Life Casualty Co. Previously, she worked as a clerk in L.L. Stearns Dept. Store for 8 years and during the war years of 1942-1945, worked on the War Ration Board. She attended Cathedral High School in New York City and was a 1934 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, North Central Sight Services, and volunteered at Sycamore Manor for 24 years. Surviving, besides her husband, are a sister, Marjorie Dickinson of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, Christopher D. Patton of Fayetteville, GA, James C. Wehler of Chesterfield Twp., MI; granddaughters, Anne M. Koulouras of Farmington Hills, MI, Patricia L. Hladki of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, Jennifer R. Wehler of Chicago, IL, and Wendy J. Patton of Fayetteville, GA; great grandchildren, Dean P. & Leah Koulouras of Farmington Hills, MI. She was preceded in death by a son, David M. Patton and a daughter, Annette P. Wehler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the church, 1223 Northway Rd., with the Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, her pastor officiating. Also officiating, Rev. John Manno and Rev. Andrew France. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at the church from 12-12:30 p.m. Saturday. Howard W. Fry, Jr.
Howard W. Fry, Jr., age 69, of 17 Steam Mill Road, Trout Run, died Friday, February 23, 2001. He and his wife, the former Lois Artley, were married April 17, 1948. Born June 12, 1931, in Williamsport, he was the son of Howard and LeMoyne Squires Fry. He was the owner of Fry Brothers Turkey Ranch Restaurant, and previously worked as a State Lottery Agent. He was a FA&M, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Williamsport. His hobby was taking care of animals, especially stray cats. Surviving are his wife, Lois; a daughter, Judith A. Ryan of Hamilton, N.J.; 4 sons, Howard W. III of Trout Run, Dwight D. “Ike” of Trout Run, Stephen D. of Williamsport, James M. of Mansfield; 9 grandchildren, Hayley M. Moss, Chad H. Fry, Nathan Fry, Lindsey Fry, Nicholas Fry, Alexander Fry, Ethan Fry, Dana Mundrick and Michael Heaps. He was preceded in death by a sister, Toy L. Fry. The funeral will be held on Friday, 10 a.m., at the Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Edward Thigpen, Rev. Ronald O. Doan, and Rev. Ted Rood officiating. Interment will be in Friedens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.
Ruth W. Philabaum
Ruth Welshans Philabaum, 83, of Pasadena, CA, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, after a 4 1/2 year battle with bone marrow cancer. Born April 14, 1917, she was the eldest daughter of the late Darrel and Lucy (Mantle) Welshans of the Welshans Fruit Farm in the Nipponose Valley. She graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1935 and attended Williamsport Commercial College. She was active in church and local events until she moved to CA with her family in 1947. Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jonathan Cameron and one sister, Hazel Welshans Baudistel of Los Angeles, CA. Ruth was active at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, CA for more than 50 years. Services will be held March 3, 2001 in Altadena, CA. Donald B. Bowen
Donald B. Bowen, 59, formerly of Williamsport, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 23, 2001. Donald was born Oct. 9, 1941, in Renovo, PA, the son of Max F. and Alice C. Bowen. He was raised in Emporium, PA, and later lived in Dover, DE and Williamsport, PA before settling in Phoenix. He was a member of Labors International Union, Local 383, Phoenix. He was a Vietnam veteran and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Donna Carey of Phoenix, formerly of Williamsport; brother, Ray Bowen of Gettysburg, PA; brother Timothy of Trout Run, PA; nephews, Jason of Dover, DE, Nathan of Baltimore, MD, Colin of Gettysburg, PA; niece, Emily Ayn of Trout Run, PA; A brother, William S. Bowen, preceded him in death. Memorial services to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America # 432.

Florence M. Pardoe, 92, widow of Harland Pardoe, lifetime resident of Sullivan County, died Feb. 26, 2001. She is survived by several grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother. Ruth Hood, 83, of Winter Garden, FL, formerly of city, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001. Born in Williamsport, she had been Executive Director of the Lycoming County Housing Authority, graduated from Williamsport School of Nursing and was a registered nurse. Monette G. Rupp
Monette G. Rupp, 81, of 1207 Almond Street, died Feb. 26, 2001 in ManorCare South Health Services. She was born July 15, 1919, in Pound River, Virginia, to Benjamin and Elizabeth Ramey Woodring. She retired in 1971 as a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Private Duty Nurse. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and enjoyed crafts. Surviving are daughters, Betty Gair, Lauretta M. Hepburn, Mary E. Brague, all of Williamsport; a son, Benjamin C. Laudenslager; a stepdaughter, Sandra Guthrie of Williamsport; a sister, Lucille Motter of Williamsport; 19 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer O. Laudenslager, Sr., in 1957, second husband, Paul D. Rupp in 1989, a daughter, Helen Evano in 1986, a son, Elmer O. Laudenslager, Jr., in 1969, granddaughter, Rhonda Evano in 1968, and 4 brothers, Hughy, William, Edward, Benjamin Woodring. Funeral services will be Thursday, 12 p.m., at James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Dr. E.W. Bixler officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery.
Adam J. Tokarz
Adam J. Tokarz, 90, formerly of Washington St., Montoursville, died February 26, 2001 at Valley View Nursing Center, where he had been a resident for two years. Born in Arnot, PA, he was the son of the late Anna and Vincent Tokarz. He attended school in Arnot and Blossburg. Mr. Tokarz was a Navy veteran, serving with the Seabees during World War II. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator most of his life. Mr. Tokarz and his wife were owners and operators of the former Tokarz Market, 1236 E. Broad St., Montoursville, and Ecks Produce in the Williamsport Grower’s Market. He was best known for Brand Red X Horseradish, which he manufactured. Mr. Tokarz was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Montoursville, a past member of the American Legion, Eugene Grafius Post 104, Montoursville, and a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local # 66. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Gublo and Ann F. Staron, and a brother, Michael. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Oslosky of Montoursville, with whom he celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary, August 25, 2000, 4 sons, James of Auburn, PA, Adam Jr. (Bud) of Harrisburg, PA, Vincent of North Granby, CT, and Gerard of Montoursville, 3 daughters, Bernadette Miller of Williamsport, Roseanne Stroup and Barbara Rishel, both of Montoursville, a sister, Bertha Lisowski of Montoursville, 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut St., with Rev. Thomas P. Shoback, his priest, officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. There will be an 8 p.m. prayer vigil.
