Joseph B. Steppe, 65, formerly of Williamsport, died at his home in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, September 22, 2001. He was born on August 20, 1936 in Collomsville, PA, son of Joseph P. and Marie B. (Dincher) Steppe.
He was a 1954 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and an Army Veteran. Joseph was employed by the former Glyco Inc. now Lonza and was active on their softball team before relocating to Las Vegas, NV where he was a resident for 21 years and retired as a slot mechanic.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth along with 2 daughters, Patricia Cowen, Shawnee, KS and Cathy Connolly, Goldsboro, NC; 2 sisters, Mary Thomas, Williamsport and Joann Dawson, Montoursville; 3 brothers, Clarence and Ralph, Williamsport and Paul, Duboistown; 3 step-daughters, Linda Flannelly, CA, Robin Flannelly and Kelly Foscano, NV; 1 step-son, Bobby Flannelly, AZ; and nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was held in Las Vegas. A memorial service will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 1223 Northway on Saturday, November 3, at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Helen H. Blackwell
Mrs. Helen H. Blackwell, 85, formerly of Jersey Shore and Blanchard. Died Friday October 26, 2001 in the Susque-View Home in Lock Haven. Born November 9, 1915, in Jersey Shore, Pa. She was the daughter of Sarah Huling. She was united in marriage to Melvin M. Blackwell in October of 1935. He preceded her in death August 6, 1999. A lifelong resident of Jersey Shore, Mrs. Blackwell and her husband owned and operated Blackwells Bakery until they retired in 1972. For many years she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and solving crossword puzzles. An active worker in her community she volunteered at the Jersey Shore Hospital. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was proud of the fact that she could beat anyone of them at Nintendo. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sarah Bitner of Blanchard, Judith Burke of Jersey Shore and Timi Kaukeinen of Bel Air, Maryland; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Thursday November 1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fredrick B. Welker Funeral Home 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore, Pa. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Rev. W. Keith Rockwell her pastor will officiate.
Rod Andrew Mase
Rod Andrew Mase age 44 of Mansfield, PA died Sat. October 28, 2001 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, Pa. Rod was born on March 25, 1957 in Wellsboro, the son of Richard and Ruth Whittaker Mase. He was a member of VFW Post #6757 and a veteran of the US Navy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m.

Jack L. Spaulding
Jack L. Spaulding, age 46, of R.D.6 Wellsboro, Pa. died October 27, 2001 at home. He was born July 12, 1955 in Blossburg, Pa., the son of Mary E. Bohart Knowlton and the son of Clifford Spaulding. He was a graduate of Wellsboro High School, “1973”, and a graduate of Mid-Continent Aviation School of Aeronautics, Kansas City, MO. He was an Aerospace Engineer for LearJet, Wichita, KS, and also job shopper for Multiple Airplane Companies. Surviving are his mother, Mary E. Bohart Knowlton of Wellsboro; Sisters, Cynthia J. Spaulding and Mary Kay Knowlton, both of Wellsboro; Brother, Jeff L. Spaulding, Arnot, Pa.; Step-sister, Mary Ann Walker, Abington, Pa.; Step-brothers, Kent Knowlton, Corning, N.Y. and Garth Knowlton, Pioneer, CA; Nephew, Josh Spaulding, Arnot, Pa.; Niece, Melissa Spaulding, Arnot, Pa,; Father, Clifford Spaulding, Wellsboro, Pa.; Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by Step-father, Wayne R. Knowlton, in 1989. Anna V.B. (Swanson) Hansen, 88, of Bath, NY, and formerly of Tioga, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at Williamsburg Community Hospital, Williamsburg, VA.

Drew L. Huffman
Drew L. Huffman, 81, of 1900 Ravine Road, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at the Williamsport Home.
Born March 31, 1920, in Williamsport, he was a son of Harry L. and Nellie L. Chapman. He was a WWII veteran.
He is survived by a son, Thomas Huffman; two daughters, Beverly Cornett and Norma Vickers and a brother, Jack Huffman of city.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wildwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Sanders Mortuary.
Joseph B. Kitchen
Joseph B. Kitchen, 86, formerly of 1156 High St., died Sunday, October 28, 2001, in the Williamsport Home. He was born September 7, 1915, in Milton, the son of Joseph B. Sr. and Edna E. Brown Kitchen. He and his wife, the former Betty F. Hodgett, were marriage June 24, 1961.
He worked as a machine operator at the former Plankenhorn Braid Works for 25 years, retiring in 1981. An Army veteran, he served in five major battles in WWII. He was a member of VFW Leroy Buck Post 7862 and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the Church of the Savior, Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Robert L. of Mosquito Valley and Paul G. of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Doris Hollick of Jersey Shore and Lorraine K. Green of Williamsport and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Harold B., predeceased him.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., with his pastor, the Rev. H. Frank Showers, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10-11 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jack E. Meyer
Jack E. Meyer, 44, of 1844 Fry Ave., Williamsport, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at home.
Born April 11, 1957, in Williamsport, he was a son of George and Ruth Steppe Meyer. He worked in retail at Eastern Wood Products.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, of city, is his companion of 26 years, Doreen R. Kepler, with whom he lived; a stepson, Warren C. Potts of city; three sisters, Martha J. Meyer of Milton, Connie M. Hess and Donna D. Meyer, both of city; two brothers, Jesse W. and Gary M. of city and two grandchildren, Warren Potts II and Torren Potts of city. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia R. Arroyo and a brother, Wade R. Meyer.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity UMC, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport, with the Rev. Melvin D. Bole officiating. Arrangements by Sanders.
Jesse H. Ramirez
Jesse H. Ramirez, 90, a city resident, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at home. He is survived by a daughter, Anita Muir of city; two grandddaughters, Sandra Barrick of Cincinnati, OH and Pamela Newmann of St. Louis, MO and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Crouse Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
