Sharon L. Kershner, 55, of Cardinal Drive, Front Royal, VA, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Mrs. Kershner was born March 13, 1945 in Yakima, WA. She was raised by her grandfather, Leonard Anderson. On August 28, 1961, she married Russell W. “Russ” Kershner in Fort Bliss, TX. Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Diana Kershner of Seattle, WA, Deanna Carson of Jersey Shore, PA, and Candis Ann Galkin of Germantown, MD; two sons, Derick Kershner of Spotsylvania, VA, and William Patrick Kershner of Front Royal, VA; six grandchildren, John T. Carson, Jr., Justin M. Carson, Alexander M. Urie, Kyle Steven Galkin, Megan L. Kershner, and Nicholas Sean Galkin. Her children would like to say “Thank you Mommy, for everything you have done for us. Thank you for your generosity and for your heart. God bless your soul.” Services will be private. Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, VA, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Avenue, Suite B, Winchester, VA 22601.

Lorene Williams Landon
Lorene Landon, 76, of Canton RR 2, died March 2, 2001, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Born on October 26, 1924, a daughter of the late Mortimer and Fannie Gorton Williams. Lorene was devoted to her family, home and helping with the family’s apple orchard business. She was a member of the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), the North Union Grange and the Canton Chapter No. 71 of the O.E.S. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Roy, at home; a son, Allyn Landon of Canton; 2 daughters, Betty Landon of Newark, De., and Kathy Preston of Kennett Square, Pa.; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Jenkins of Troy and Geraldine Wanck of Towanda; several nieces, nephews & cousins. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Clair & Carlyle Williams. Friends may call 1-3 p.m., Sunday, at Pepper Funeral Home, Canton. Calling hours will also be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Canton Church of Christ. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with her pastor, the Rev. David B. Morris officiating. Interment will be in the North Union Cemetery. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), P.O. Box 57, Canton, Pa. 17724.

Esther A. Demmien
Esther A. Demmien, 97, formerly of Russell Avenue, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in the Williamsport Home. The family will provide the flowers and arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Marlin R. Dillon
Marlin R. Dillon, 79, 531 Childs Dr., South Williamsport, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at home. Mr. Dillon was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Williamsport. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War Two, serving in the China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations. He was a member of Leroy O. Buck Post 7863, VFW, DuBoistown, John F. Laedlein Lodge 707 F. & A. M., Williamsport, and a longtime member of the Historical Original Little League Baseball. Mr. Dillon retired in 1986 from the Lonza Chemical Company, Williamsport. He and his wife, the former Hilda C. Cowher, observed 54 years of marriage. He was born July 30, 1921 at Renovo, the son of John and Vada Wolstencroft Dahlin. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Cathy Kingston, South Williamsport, three grandchildren, Eric Dillon, Jenna Kingston and Stephanie Kingston, two great grandchildren, Samantha and Abby Dillon. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth M. Dillon in 1993. Graveside services will beheld at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Montoursville Cemetery. His pastor, the Rev. Larry Halverstadt-Cole will officiate. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Contributions in memory of Marlin R. Dillon may be made to the Historical Original Little League, Box 4162, WIlliamsport, Pa., 17701 or to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, Pa., 17701.

Bernard J. Helminiak
Bernard J. Helminiak, 73, of 125 Arch St., died Friday, March 2, 2001 in the Williamsport Hospital. He was born in Williamsport on August 4, 1927, a son of Joseph and Rose Potrzebowski Helminiak. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Helminiak was employed by the former Sweet Steel for 20 years and retired from Alcan Cable after 27 years. He was a member and usher at St. John’s United Methodist Church and a life member of the Republican League. Surviving is his wife, the former Wanda C. D’Andrea, whom he married Oct. 2, 1948. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry Thorne of Montoursville and Bonnie Hetrick of the city; two sons, Bernard and Larry, both of the city; a brother, Joseph; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He loved and lived for his family and will be sadly missed by all of them. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. John’s United Methodist, 2101 Newberry St., with the Revs. Kraig Faust and Stephen Parr, his pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 107 Tamara Circle, Pleasant Gap, Pa., 16823.

Pearl E. Keiser
Pearl E. Keiser, 83, of RR 3 Muncy, died Fri., March 2, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Hoyt H. Keiser, 3 sons, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held at Brooks’, Turbotville and burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 8206, Turbotville.

John O. Markley Sr.
John O. Markley Sr., 68, of 1421 Constantine St., Orlando, Fla., formerly of Williamsport, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001, in Florida Hospital East, Orlando. He was a self-employed carpenter retiring in 1993. He enjoyed hunting and he constructed the Santa Claus house used in downtown Williamsport at Christmas. Born July 29, 1932 in Williamsport, a son of Judge R. A. and Alma M. Bockman Markley. Surviving are sons: John O. Jr, Daniel F. and Joseph P., all of Williamsport, David A. of Jersey Shore and Gary J. of Montoursville; daughters: Wanda K. Markley of Bodines, Penny A. Hoover and Karen E. Caputo, both of Williamsport, Kathy M. Guthrie of Jersey Shore and Brenda L. Markley of Orlando; brothers: Richard of Williamsport and Joseph of Hughesville; sisters: Gladys Winder of Kissimmee, Fla. and Charlotte Dohl of Turbotville; 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and his companion, Linda C. Sones. He was predeceased by his children Donald, Janet and twins Peggy and John. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Muncy Cemetery. No visitation. Knight-Confer F.H, Inc.

Bruce Edward Ryan Sr.
Bruce Edward Ryan Sr., 96, of Watsontown, died March 2, 2001 at Kramm’s in Watsontown. Ryan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor M. Ryan of Watsontown, a daughter, Sandra L. Craig of Watsontown, and a son, Terry L. of Milton. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6 at Cronrath’s, Watsontown. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Wilton J. Shuker
Wilton J. Shuker, 77, of Shiremanstown, formerly of Wyominssing, died Friday in the Lebanon V.A. Medical Facility. He retired as construction superintendent for United Technologies, formerly Otis Elevator. He had also worked for the Reading Elevator and Remp Service of Reading. He was a graduate of Wilson High School, West Lawn, and the U.S. Army Air Corp Aviation Cadet Program. He served in the Army 8th Air Corp. and was a veteran of WWII. He was the former president and business agent for Local 84 Union of Elevators Constructors, was former president of the West Wyomissing Fire Co., a member of the Berks County Civil Defense Council, former committeeman of the West Wyomissing Boy Scouts of America and served as treasurer of the Advent Lutheran Church Sunday School. Locally he was a member of the Shiremanstown United Methodist Church and West Shore BPO Elks No. 2257. Surviving are his wife, Beryl L. (Williams) Shuker, two sons, Terry W. of Kenhorst, Donald R. of Mt. Penn, one stepson, Gary E. Williams of Germantown, Md., one stepdaughter, Carol A. Ryder of Newburgh, In., one brother, Donald H. of Reading, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. in his church. Interment services will be held Wednesday 11:30 a.m. in the Montoursville Cemetery, Montoursville. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Comfort Care Hospice, 205 Grandview Ave., Camp Hill, Pa., 17011 or his church, Strawberry Ave., Shiremanstown, Pa., 17011. Arrangements are by the Neill’s, 34011 Market St., Camp Hill.

Elizabeth M. Brennan
Elizabeth M. “Aunt Betty” Brennan, 87, of 106 East Chestnut St., Shamokin, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Born July 5, 1913 in Shamokin, she was a daughter of Thomas and Margaret Marnon Brennan. She was a House Mother at Geisinger Medical School of Nursing, Danville. She was a graduate of St. Edward High School, Shamokin, where she was a star basketball player. She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, and a former member of St. Edward Church. A member of Indian Hills Country Club, she was an avid lady golfer. She was also involved with various local bridge clubs. Surviving are 2 brothers, John M. of Coal Township and Thomas M. of Camp Hill; a sister, Margaret Brennan of Shamokin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, James M. and a sister, Mary Jane Brennan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mother Cabrini Church with the Rev. Dennis Grumsey officiating. Arrangements are being handled by James Kelley’s, 1001 West Arch St., Coal Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shamokin-Coal Twp. Public Library, 210 E. Independence St., Shamokin, Pa., 17872 or Shamokin Area Community Hospital, 4200 Hospital Rd., Coal Twp., Pa., 17866.

Linda F. Clark
Linda F. Clark, 52, of 2720 Blair St., Montoursville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, David B., celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary, October 21, 2000. Mrs. Clark received a bachelor’s degree from Neumann College, Aston, Pa., and did graduate work at Bloomsburg University. She was a former Charge Nurse at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, MD, a director of nursing at the Williamsport Hospital and a director of nursing at the former Williamsport Area Community College. She was also a member of the Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild, and the Jersey Shore Garden Club. Born June 3, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Walter K. and Madalyn Andreko Falchek. Surviving in addition to her father of Kingston, Pa. and husband, are a step-son, Jason E. Clark of Phoenixville, Pa., 3 sisters, Edwina MacDuff of Oak Ridge, NJ, Michele Falchek of Wilmington, Dela., Deborah Kelsch of West Chester, Pa., and 6 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Paula Falchek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Thomas P. Shoback officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: The American Heart Association, Northeastern PA District, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, Pa., 17701.

Esther A. Demmien
Esther A. Demmien, 97, formerly of 323 Russell Ave., died March 3, 2001 at the Williamsport Home. Born August 3, 1903, she was a daughter of Wilhelm C. and Matilda Roegner Demmien. After retiring in 1969, she was the former owner of Demmien & Pringle Casual Wear. She was a member of the former Immanuel United Church of Christ. Surviving are a son, Thomas D. Casale, Williamsport; two daughters, Gloria Cendoma, Hughesville and Patricia C. Pringle, Williamsport; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Demmien. A private funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crouse’s, 133 East Third St, with the Rev. John Manno, pastor of Annunciation officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

Chester E. Knapp, Sr.
Chester E. Knapp, Sr., age 81, of Millerton, Pa., passed away on March 4, 2001 at his residence. Private funeral services will be held at the Wilston Funeral Home, Mansfield, with the Rev. Nancy G.W. Parr officiating. Interment will be in the Alder Run Cemetery.

George D. Lamper
George David “Skip” Lamper, 79, of 44 Heatherbrooke Estates, Muncy, died Saturday March 3, 2001 at Manor Care South, Williamsport. He and his wife the former Lillian L. Slagle celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on May 8. He retired in 1984 from Operating Engineers Local 542, Philadelphia. He was a member of Muncy Lodge 299 F and AM, Williamsport Consistory, Warrior Run Royal Arch Chapter 246, and Order of the Eastern Star Monsey Chapter 481. He was a former Democratic committee person for Muncy Creek Twp. He enjoyed camping and traveling. Born Feb. 9, 1922 in Kane, he was a son of George K. and Pearl L. Thompson Lamper. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, David E., Dennis E. and Linda L. Bower all of Pennsdale, a sister L. Kay Lindquist of Girrard; 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Ernest, Clair, Glen and Clinton and 3 sisters, Marie Arnold, Lucille Morris, and Fay Ingersole. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 East Water St., Hughesville with the Rev. Michael Gardy officiating. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Muncy. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic services, 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to help fight Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases c/o Alzheimer’s Support Group, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, Pa., 17701.

Hubert J. Mornay
Hubert J. Mornay passed away at his home March 4, 2001 following a long illness. Born in New Orleans, he was the son of Emile and Eslin Mornay. After serving with the Military Sealift Command, Atlantic, for over 40 years, first as Chief Steward and later as Supply Officer, he and his wife retired to the Williamsport area. His unassuming manner and devotion to service earned him the respect of his men. He was the recipient of many awards and letters of appreciation. He served his country well. Mr. Mornay enjoyed landscaping, gardening and working with various woods. Surviving are his wife, Sabrina, a brother, Conrad Mornay of New Orleans, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held under the direction of his Pastor, the Reverend Elmer Fritz, First Christian Church of Montoursville. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Spitlers of Montoursville. There will be no visitation.

Sterling R. Rossman Jr.
JERSEY SHORE - Sterling R. Rossman Jr., 39, of 420 Wilson St. died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in the Conrow Regional Medical Center, Conrow, Texas. Arrangements are being handled by Welker’s, 125 N. Main St.
