Amy E. Arbogast
Amy Elizabeth (Twist) Arbogast, formerly of Canton, passed away quietly at Roseview Center Nursing Home, Williamsport, March 2, 2001. She was 83. Born in Roaring Branch on March 19, 1917, she was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Campbell) Twist. She was a graduate of Ralston High School, Class of 1935. She was the wife of the late Harry Arbogast. Amy worked as a machine operator with Canford Manufacturing. She was the third person ever hired by the company. She was a member of the V.I.A. and Canton Lady Rebekahs. She was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, walking and helping out at church suppers. Amy is survived by sons Robert of Hungry Horse, Montana, Richard of Richland, Pa., Glen of Wesyerville, Ohio; daughter, Sharon Bragg of Williamsport; grandchildren, Lisa Bragg, Douglas and Jennifer Arbogast; brother, Richard Twist of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Marian Micklitsch of Ralston and Myrtle Larson of Williamsport. She was preceded in death by husband Harry, brother Walter Twist and sister Louise Micklitsch. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton. Funeral services at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jay Morris officiating. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery.
Alvin L. Bilby
Alvin Leroy “Shorty” Bilby, 86, of Lot 30 Forsythe Trailer Park, Lock Haven, PA died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 in the Jersey Shore Hospital. Born November 19, 1914, in Charlton, PA, he was the son of Oliver Bilby and the former Margaret Dullen. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Vernona Haight, August 10, 1980. He was a retired foreman in the Weaving Dept. from Woolrich after several years of service. He was a life member of the Loyal Order Of Moose and the Jersey Shore Elks Lodge 1057. For many years he was a member of the Avis American Legion, Jersey Shore American Legion and the Jersey Shore Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Labelle Vallee Lodge 232 F&AM Jersey Shore. Surviving are 1 son, Randy E. Bilby of Lock Haven; a daughter-in-law, Kelly L. Bilby of Lock Haven; 2 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Arnold D. Bilby of Avis and Albert L. Bilby of Brookside; 1 sister, Phyllis L. Smith of Avis. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore, PA. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Woolrich Cemetery. Father Andrew Hvozdovic will officiate.
Clara R. Fay
Clara R. Fay, 98, of Montoursville, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 in Tucson, Arizona. Born August 24, 1902, in Montoursville, she was the daughter of James M. and Annis Hall Blackwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie F. Fay, on April 1, 1991. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence H. of Branchville, NJ, James M. of Williamsport and John D. of South Williamsport; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hall, of Roswell N.M.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Montoursville. The funeral will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Zetto officiating. Interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 10-11 a.m. on Monday.

Survivors include maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Donna Hartman and great grandparents Charles and Rebecca Stackhouse; paternal grandparents MaryAnn and Jimmy L. Dorothy P. Snyder
Dorothy Pearl Snyder, 92, of Center Street, died peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Sunday, March 11, 2001. She was the widow of Vernerd Snyder who died in 1984. She was born February 14, 1909, in Williamsport, the daughter of Harry S. and Pearl Ploof Painter. She graduated from Williamsport High School, and was a piano teacher for 50 years. She was a Charter member of Covenant-Central Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a granddaughter, Dianna Hendrick of Bushkirk, NY; two grandsons, Vernerd Snyder III of Montgomery and Mark Snyder of Watsontown; two sisters, Miriam Painter of Williamsport and Lucille March of Glendale, AZ; and a daughter-in-law, Rea Snyder of Bushkirk, NY. A son, Vernerd Snyder, Jr., died in 1981. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at Covenant-Central Presbyterian Church, 807 West Fourth Street. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Shirley Louise Wright, 61, of West Terrace Drive, Williamsport, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Williamsport, October 6, 1939, the daughter of Charles H. Sr. and Mabel Louise Banks Wilson. She is survived by two sons, Victor E. and Robert A., both of Williamsport; two daughters, Virginia L. and Carla J. Wright, both of Williamsport; 17 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Charles H. and Albert L. Wilson, both of Williamsport and Leslie Wilson of Ohio; and one sister, Joan E. Lockley of Hagerstown, MD. A daughter Barbara and three brothers, Carl, Frederick D., and William L. Wilson preceded her in death. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street, with the Rev. Robert G. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Earl A. Insinger
Earl A. Insinger, 76, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Earl was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Lopez, PA, the son of the late Roy Insinger and Elizabeth A. Kleiner Insinger Everling. Earl grew up in Lopez, PA and graduated from the Dushore High School, a member of the class of 1943. He began dairy farming in the 1940’s in Cherry Township. He married the former Dolores E. Silverstrim of Dushore on Nov. 15, 1947. Dolores helped operate the farm and raise the children until predeceasing him on Sept. 16, 1987. While running the farm Earl also custom hauled milk and in the early years he plowed snow with his own tractor for Cherry Township. Earl was very active in the agricultural community. He was a member and director of the A.S.C.S. and was instrumental in developing most of the Sullivan County aerial maps. He was a former director of Eastern Milk Producers and was an adjuster for Farmers and Mechanics Insurance Company of Forksville, PA. He was also a 4-H leader in 1965 and 1966. Earl was awarded the honor as “Farmer of the Year” in 1971 and retired from farming in 1990. Surviving are 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald & Carol Insinger of Montoursville, Jack Insinger, Bruce Insinger and Robert & Candy Insinger, all of Dushore; a daughter and friend, Joyce Ann Insinger & Sam Harvey of Dushore; 9 grandchildren, Laurie Insinger, Lisa Insinger, Christopher & Tammy Insinger, Joseph Insinger, Timothy Insinger, Derrick Insinger, Cathy Jo Insinger, Elaina Harvey and Jesse Harvey; a brother-in-law, Robert E. Silverstrim of Dushore; 6 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Silverstrim and Gloria Bryan, both of Dushore, Alice Chrzanowski of Apalachin, NY, Rosemary Bennett of Forksville, Patsy Jean Fries of Pineville, LA, and Connie Kisner of Mehoopany, PA; and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 15th at 2 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Dushore, PA. Friends may call at the Homer funeral home on Wednesday, March 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Born March 28, 1911, in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Oliver & Emma Crayton Messner. Survivors include a sister, Estella Dorn of this city. Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Twin Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. Kerry Krissel officiating.
Rose S. Gorasi
Rose S. Gorasi, 85, of 1419 Washington Blvd., died Monday, March 12, 2001 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A., Sr. who died March 18, of last year. Rose was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. She graduated from Maranella School of Beauty, Philadelphia. She was a beautician at the Beauty Bar in the 1940’s. Things in life she enjoyed most were spending time with her grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. She was born July 27, 1915 in Williamsport, the daughter of Saverio and Liberati Galasso Scoppa. Surviving are two sons, Donald G. and Joseph A. Jr., both of this city, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, 635 Hepburn St., with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders, 821 Diamond St., from 7-9 p.m. tonight. A Rosary service will be held at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church.
