E. Jane McLean, 91, formerly of Pine Haven Apts., Lock Haven, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Lock Haven Hospital Ex. Care. Her husband, T. Scott McLean, died Jan. 19, 1991. Born Feb. 25, 1910, in Ligonier, she was the daughter of the late J. Harvey & Kate Snyder Lohr. She was a graduate of the Westmont-Upper Yoder High School, Johnstown, PA, a 1930 graduate of the former Lock Haven Normal School, and received her masters degree in education from Penn State University in 1965. She taught in Johnstown and Waukegan, IL, and for 16 years taught 6th grade at Mill Hall Elementary School, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Educators, the Lock Haven Business & Professional Women, and the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, Mill Hall, where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher. She had also worked for the Dept. of Welfare in Cambria & Clinton counties. During the summers she had worked at General Motors in Michigan while attending college. Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas L of Mill Hall and Scott R. of Muncy; a foster son, James Kissell of Watkins Glen, NY; 17 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. The funeral will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-8 tonight. LaVerne L. Miller
LaVerne L. Miller, 79, of 254 Miller Rd., Montoursville, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born January 31, 1922, in Upper Fairfield Twp., the son of Harry R. and Enzie Flick Miller. Mr. Miller retired from the Montoursville School District and formerly worked for the former Conchemco, Montoursville. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Eugene Grafius Post 104, Montoursville. He and his wife, the former Pauline E. Schultz, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary Aug. 17, 2000. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Donna L. Herb of Montoursville, Barbara A. Newton of Margate, FL; two brothers, Elwood C. of Montoursville, Bruce A. of Watsontown; a sister, Dorothy Harris of Pennsdale; and 4 grandchildren, James Gibbs, Zachary, Logan and Amanda Newton. The funeral will be Saturday, 12 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Upper Fairfield Twp. with the Rev. Lynn Sinnott officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery. Hazel K. Newcomer
Mrs. Hazel K. Newcomer, 83, 2116 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center. She was the widow of Ray S. Newcomer, who preceded her in death on June 22, 1970. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Williamsport. She was born August 17, 1917 in Muncy, the daughter of Harry and Susan Klingerman. Surviving are two sons, Richard A. Newcomer and Russell A. Newcomer, both of Williamsport; three grandsons; a brother-in-law, Wilbur Houck, Williamsport; a niece, Ethel Klingerman, New Jersey; a nephew, Dale Houck, Hershey; and two great nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport. The Rev. Roy W. Johnsen, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at Muncy Cemetery, Muncy. Patrick E., Aaron J., John P., Samuel D. Teets; Auto Accident Victims
Joint services will be held for four family members, relatives of a Jersey Shore couple, killed Sunday, March 11, 2001, in an automobile accident in Tennessee. Patrick Eldon Teets, 49, of Midway, Ky., was born Aug. 23, 1951, in Brown City, Mich., the son of Mary Elizabeth & the late Fredrick Clair Teets. He was owner & operator of Reliance Refrigeration Inc. and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his mother; his wife, Linda Barrett Teets; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Niles Teets of Georgetown, Ky.; and several other relatives. Aaron John Teets, 26, of Georgetown, Ky., was born April 14, 1974, in Saginaw, Mich., the son of Patrick E. & Linda Barrett Teets. He was a Ky. Horse Park Mounted Police Officer and was in the Navy Reserve, where he served as a Seabee. Survivors include his mother, Linda Barrett Teets, his wife, Jennifer Niles Teets, his mother-in-law & father-in-law, David B. & Deborah Niles of Jersey Shore, and several other relatives. John Patrick Teets, 2, was born June 12, 1998, in Fayette Co., Ky., the son of Aaron & Jennifer Niles Teets. Samuel David Teets, 9 months, was born May 18, 2000, in Fayette Co., Ky., the son of Aaron & Jennifer Niles Teets. Frederick A. Toner
Frederick A. Toner, 78, of Castanea, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at home. Born June 6, 1922, in North Bend, he was the son of Clarence E. & Ada Gallen Toner. He and his wife, the former Geraldine M. Peddigree, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Dec. 24. He was a maintenance millwright at the former New York & Pennsylvania Paper Co., and then the Hammermill Paper Co. for 42 years, retiring in Aug. 1984. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, a Navy veteran of WWII, a member and past treasurer of Lock Haven VFW, American Legion, Son’s of Italy, and Castanea Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Richard V. of Lock Haven; a granddaughter, Lisa A. Rhea; a brother, James of Blanchard. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Kenneth & Louis and a sister, Violet Young. Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall. Eric B. Weingartner, 11, of Hooversville, formerly of Montgomery, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. Born Jan. 8, 1990, in Silver Springs, MD, he was the son of Duane & Diane Myers Weingartner. Surviving are his mother of Hooversville and father of Berlin; a sister, Leah of Hooversville; and a brother, Duane “Buddy” III in Ohio. Richard D. Rood
Richard David Rood, son of Pastor & Mrs. Ted Rood, Covington, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2001. He is survived by two brothers, Brent T. of Easley, S.C., and Daniel A. of Covington, Pa. Richard was a 1992 graduate of Mansfield High School and received a degree in English from Mansfield University in 1996. There will be a memorial service on Saturday at Covington Baptist Church, Highway 15 South, Covington, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Memorial Fund of Covington Baptist Church. Richard’s friends and family and his service for Christ were the joys of his life. Betty R. Titman
Betty R. Titman, 71, of 124 Kepner Rd., Muncy, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at the Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia. Her husband, W. Ralph Titman, died Jan. 31, 1983. Born Jan. 1, 1930, in Proctor, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Lena Stackhouse Rooker. She spent 35 years at Main St., Millville. Retiring in 1995, she worked for Domestic Relations in Bloomsburg for 12 years. She was a 1948 graduate of Hughesville High School and attended Lycoming College. She was a member of Millville United Methodist Church, where she taught the Youth Sunday School for many years. Betty was a volunteer with the Millville Service Committee and the American Cancer Society. Surviving are 2 sons, William E. of LaGrange, Ga., & Robert L. of Muncy, with whom she lived; 4 grandchildren; a brother, John Rooker of Hughesville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Earnest Grace Buck of Montgomery & Maxine Perritt of Hughesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Harold, LaRue & Roland Rooker, and an infant sister. Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. at Millville United Methodist Church, with her pastor, the Rev. Richard Leonard officiating. Burial in Millville Cemetery. Celia K. Grey
Mrs. Celia K. Grey, 96, of 128 Long Road, Jersey Shore, PA, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in the Manor Care Health Center in Jersey Shore. She was born October 28, 1904, in Verona, PA. For many years she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Jersey Shore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert R. Grey in May 1989. Surviving are 3 sons, Gale W. “Snuffy” Grey Sr. of Jersey Shore, PA, Harry McWilliams, address unknown, Robert R. Grey Jr. of Butler, PA; 1 daughter, Nancy Reibert of Fox Chapel, PA; 25 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore, PA. Bertil R. Case
Bertil Raymond Case, 81, of 1445 Sycamore Rd., Montoursville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Sycamore Manor. His wife, the former Mary E. Kramer, died March, 6, 1997. Born Sept. 25, 1919, in Salladasburg, he was the son of the late William Monroe & Eva Sellinger Case. Retiring in 1982, he had been an electrician, I.B.E.W. # 812. Bertil was a 1938 graduate of Williamsport High School, was a former member of Ascension Catholic Church and a Navy veteran of WWII. He enjoyed rock collecting, woodworking, camping, traveling and fishing. Surviving are a son, Raymond D. of Geneseo, NY; 2 daughters, Carol A. Ohlandt of Pipersville & Nancy M. Gutshall of Benton; 2 sisters, Freda Grove of Kylertown & Annabell Allen of Sweet Valley; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Ascension Catholic Church, 2111 Linn St., Williamsport, PA 17701, with the Rev. Charles Cummings the celebrant. Jean “Mable” Casale McCloskey, 84, of 1424 Richards Ave., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Manor Care Health Services. She and her husband, Ralph S. McCloskey, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Born May 8, 1916, in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of Nicholas & Rose Cioffi Casale. She was the former owner of the 5th Avenue Tavern. Jean was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church and was an avid bingo player. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Shirley Harner of Williamsport; a sister, Yolanda Sampson of Williamsport; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; brothers, Frank, Arthur & John; and sisters, Mary Paretta & Frances Livermore. The funeral will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. The Rev. Kenneth I. Bower, 84, of Mechanicsburg, a Williamsport native, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at home. He was a retired Methodist Pastor serving 3 local congregations: Salladasburg, Howard and Milton. He was a 1934 graduate of Williamsport H.S., a graduate of Albright College, Evangelical School of Theology, and attended Lutheran Theological Seminary. He enjoyed traveling. Surviving are his wife, Lois M. English Bower; a daughter, Janet L. Shively, Mechanicsburg; a brother, Glenn L. Bower, Williamsport; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 135 W. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Raymond H. Minier
Raymond H. Minier, 72, of 1852 Hayes Lane, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Sandra L. Reese would have celebrated 19 years of marriage on August 6. Retiring in 1968 as a Chief Boatswain with the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service, he served in WW II, the Korean War and in Vietnam. Born January 15, 1929 in this city, he was a son of Cloyd H. & Charlotte F. White Minier. He was a former member of American Legion Post 104 and the Forty & Eight Voiture 382. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother of this city, are two daughters, Darlene C. Sevinsky, Cogan Station and Michele M. Boudreau, city; and four grandchildren, Barbara Guthrie, Janelle Sevinsky, Erin Cochran and Mark Cochran, Jr., all of Williamsport. He was predeceased by his first wife, Laura L. Minier in 1978 and two brothers, Cloyd H. Jr., and James R. Miner. Funeral service Monday, March 19, 11 a.m. at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Pastor Connie A. Anna E. Wargo, 90, of Mahanoy City, formerly of Williamsport, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Good Samaritan RMC, Pottsville. Her husband, Andrew F. Wargo, died June 3, 1994. Born July 26, 1910, in Shenandoah, she was the daughter of Stanislaus & Josephine Nielabowicz Kruhelsky. She had worked at the former Russell Williams Dress Factory, Mahonoy City. Anna was a member of St. Canicus R.C. and the Adult Outreach of the Catholic Social Agency. Surviving are 7 sons, Daniel F. of Hughesville, Andrew of Earlsville, IL., John of Acadia, CA and Michael of Weston Place, PA, Msgr. Robert Wargo, pastor of St. Joseph RC Church, Orefield, PA, Stephen of Mahonoy City, PA, and Richard of Weston Place, PA; 3 daughters, Anne Kawa of Williamsport, Regina Phillips of Nipomo, CA, and Julia Dee of Plains, PA; 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and nieces & nephews. Anna was the last of her family; all her brothers and sisters are deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. at St. Canicus Church, Mahonoy City.
