Clara E. Renninger, 93, a resident of 281 Montgomery St., Montgomery, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 7:15 P.M. in the Muncy Valley Hospital SNU. Born January 8, 1908 at Mapelton, Lycoming County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret E. (Marcey) Minier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hensyl Leon Renninger, in 1963. Earlier in life she had been employed by the former Deiter’s Candy Factory at Williamsport, PA. Clara was a former member of the former Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church at Williamsport and enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marion M. and Donald Feaster with whom she resided for the past 28 years; three grandsons, Donald Feaster, David Feaster and James Rentz; a granddaughter, Debra Freeman and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, June Rentz; four brothers, Robert, Ernest, Melvin and Charles Minier and by two sisters, May Teed and Alta Minier. Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family with Reverend Scott W. Baker, pastor of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Hughesville. Arrangements are being handled by Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 Main St., Muncy, PA.
James A. Herb
James Arthur Herb, of 430 Wyoming St., Williamsport, PA, died in his home on March 16, 2001. He was 65 years old. He was born in Snydertown, PA on August 24, 1935, the son of the late Ira Clarence and Mary Crowl Herb. There were two older brothers who preceded Jim in death: Richard C. Herb of Hanover, PA who died in 1996 and Donald R. Herb of San Juan, Puerto Rico who died in August of 2000. Surviving is a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Kathleen Herb of Selinsgrove, PA. In addition, two nephews and three nieces survive Mr. Herb. Having begun his education in the one room school in Snydertown, he graduated from Sunbury High School in 1953. Mr. Herb attended Bucknell University between 1953 and 1958, from which he received Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Physics. While at Bucknell, he was elected a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Later he did additional post graduate study at Pennsylvania State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Herb taught mathematics and physics at Susquehanna University from 1960 until 1986. Since that time, he had lived in Selinsgrove, Montoursville and Williamsport and had most recently been employed by the Municipal Authority of Williamsport. Mr. Herb was an amateur radio enthusiast, having been involved in ham radio activity since the early 1950’s. Over the years he had worked as a first class radio engineer at WKOK in Sunbury, WHLM in Bloomsburg, WSEW in Selinsgrove and WTGC in Lewisburg. His interest in radio and electronics continued up to the time of his death. Eugene E. Reighard Sr.
Eugene E. Reighard, Sr., 90, of Jersey Shore, died March 15, 2001, in Jersey Shore Hospital Emergency Room. He was born at Pine Creek, Oct. 20, 1910 a son of Ernest & Mary Jane McCaslin Reighard. He and his wife, the former Catherine Lundy, were married over 63 years. He was retired from the Blast Intermediate #17 with the Jersey Shore School System. He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Jersey Shore. Besides his wife he is survived by 1 son, Eugene Jr.; 1 daughter, Mary Emma Reighard; 2 sisters, Kathryn Hawkins & Madelyn Hamlin; 2 granddaughters; 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private early next week from the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home in Jersey Shore with burial in Jersey Shore Cemetery. There will be no visitation. His family suggests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Jersey Shore, 235 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, PA 17745.

Lorene Landon, 76, of Canton RR, loving wife of Roy, who survives, died Friday, March 2, 2001. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Canton Church of Christ. Almeron J. Whitteker
Almeron J. Whitteker, 85, of Mansfield, PA, died March 15, 2001 at home. He was born May 4, 1915 in Mansfield, the son of Wayne & Maude Lounsbury Whitteker. Almeron was a retiree of Ingersoll Rand, Painted Post, NY. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and AARP. Almeron was an avid hunter and a member of the NRA & the Lambs Creek Sportsman’s Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Janice Nichols; a son, David of Mansfield, PA; 3 daughters, Judith Gee of Canton, PA, Betty Jean Sumner of Mansfield, PA, Sharon Snyder of Baltimore, MD; 2 sisters, Jean Mitchell of Covington, PA, Marian Chamberlain of Towanda, PA; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Stanley, Randolph & Claude. Friends are invited to call at the Gary W. Wilston Funeral Home, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, PA, Sunday 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held there Monday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Joyce Treas officiating. Burial in Tioga County Memorial Gardens.
John R. Burchfield Sr.
John Robert “Bob” Burchfield Sr., 69, of Orlando, FL, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. He was born in Montgomery in 1932, the son of William R. & Mary Decker Burchfield. He had been president of J.C. Decker, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and locally, a daughter, Cheryl Willits of Linden. A memorial service will be held in Montgomery at a date and time to be announced.
Elton A. Dahlgren
Elton A. Dahlgren, 79, of 1900B Ravine Rd., Williamsport, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Born Sept. 26, 1921, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Harry & Mary Long Dahlgren. He was a sales representative for the former Frey’s Tire Shop. Elton was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport H. S., a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a member of the Harmonia Club, American Legion Post 617 and the Republican Club. In his earlier years, he played semi-pro baseball and city softball. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Surviving are a son, Richard M. “Rick” of Manchester, N.H., and a brother, James. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m. Monday. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to St. Boniface Catholic Church. James A. Neylon
James A. Neylon, 65, of 1204 Hilltop Rd., Williamsport, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Sally A. Fogle, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary Jan. 10. Born Nov. 25, 1935, in Williamsport, he was the son of Robert J. & Margaret Myers Neylon. He had been employed as a truck driver most of his life. He retired from Beiter’s Williamsport store. James was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. Surviving are 2 sons, James A. Jr. and Robert F. Neylon, both of Williamsport; 2 grandchildren, Robert and Sierra Neylon; 2 brothers, Robert J. and John H. Neylon, both of Williamsport; a sister, Margaret H. Johnson of Montoursville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church, 1223 Northway Rd., 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. 3rd St., from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Danny F. Merrifield
Danny F. Merrifield, 54, of 700 Woods Ave., Lock Haven, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 in Lock Haven Hospital. He and his wife, the former Carol A. Hamm, were married Nov. 29, 1980. He was a webmaster of the District 6 wrestling website, and was a statistician for the District 6 wrestling. In 1998, he was named the District 6 wrestling man of the year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Arthur Bennett
Arthur Bennett (Ben) Stephens Sr., 63, Lock Haven, died March 17, 2001 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on March 20 at 11 a.m. at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 West Main Street, Lock Haven, PA. Officiating will be Pastor Troy Kerstetter of the Faith Baptist Church of Blanchard. Internment will be in the Dunnstown Cemetary, Woodward Township, Clinton County. Visitation will be Monday at 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services. Memorials will be accepted to the American Cancer Society Clinton County Relay for Life through the funeral home.
Margie A. Betts
Margie A. Betts, 93, of 15 Kahkwa Trail, Pinehurst, N.C., formerly of Pine St., Montoursville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in Pinehurst. She was the widow of Robert L. Betts, who died March 24, 1989. Mrs. Betts was born November 19, 1907 in DuBoistown, a daughter of Harry and Lydia Smith Kurtz. She had been employeed by the Plankenhorn Braid Works. She was a member of Garden View Church of Christ, Pine Run Grange, South Williamsport Senior Citizens and was a former member of Eastern Star. Surviving are three sons: Robert L., Jr., with whom she lived, W. James of city, and Dale F. of Camp Hill; a daughter Geraldine Steiner of North Port, FL; a sister Evelyn Hoch of Sun City, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven siblings. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, from her church at 1941 Princeton Avenue with her former pastor, Joseph A. Newman, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to the building fund of the church.

Elizabeth A. Butterman
Elizabeth A. “Sannie” Butterman, 71, of Lakeview, Ohio, mother of a city woman, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She and her husband, Robert F. Butterman, who survives, were married May 12, 1990. Born May 13, 1929, in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jacob & Lillian Lytle McClaskey. Surviving locally is a daughter, Jeri (George) Brown of Muncy. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse F. Blevins, 1967 and her second husband, James E. Furniss, 1987, 1 sister and 1 brother. Services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview, Ohio. Interment will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery, Ohio. Visitation from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

David L. Campbell, 49, Salt Srings, Fla., died on Friday, March 16, 2001 at his residence. He was born in Canton and moved to South Williamsport before relocating in Florida. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 404 Union, Masonic Lodge and South Williamsport United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Kristin L. Campbell, Camp Hill; two sisters, Glenda J. Tufts, Mifflinburg and Cindy L. Straub, South Williamsport. Iva L. Campbell, 84, of 501 Sandhill Road, Montoursville, died March 16, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Campbell, the widow of Richard W. Campbell who died June 23, 1992, had worked with her husband in the Williamsport Candy Company for many years. Mrs. Campbell was born November 25, 1916 in Collomsville, the daughter of James Ernest and Catherine Boone DeFrain. She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, the Order of Eastern Star #465 Montoursville where she was a past Matron; the Williamsport Shrine Club Auxiliary and the Williamsport Country Club. Surviving are a son, Richard W. Campbell, Jr. of Montoursville; two daughters, Catherine Jean Campbell of Jerusalem, Israel and Cheryl Campbell Hart of New Milford; a sister, Ruth Little of Sayre; five grandchildren; five great, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predecesed by a son, Charles James Campbell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with her pastor, Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. James J. Dooris
James J. Dooris, 80, of 1101 Spruce Street, Montoursville died March 17, 2001, at the Williamsport Hospital. He was born March 25, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre the son of George A. and Theresa Smith Dooris, Sr. Mr. Dooris and his wife, the former Betty J. Bartlett, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary November 18, 2000. Retiring after 41 years he was a truck driver for the former C.A. Reed Company. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Eugene Grafius American Legion Post #104, the Young Men’s Democratic Club, and the Greater Williamsport Notre Dame Club. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, James F. of Cary, N.C. and Donald of Montoursville; one brother, George A., Jr. of Williamsport; one sister, Edith Tuxford of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren and seven great, grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 100 Walnut Street, Montoursville with his priest, Rev. Thomas P. Shobach officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetary, Williamsport. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Monday.
