John J. Pellegrino
John J. Pellegrino, 71, 1200 Crestview Dr., Williamsport, died at home on Saturday, March 17, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 13, 1929 in Williamsport, the son of Paolo and Teresa Mazene Pellegrino. He and his wife, the former Eva E. Girio, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary September 6th. He was employed by his father at the former New Oxidental Cafe on Market St. and by Avco Lycoming Motors. He was also a partner in the Pellegrino’s Superette Market in Newberry for many years as well as owning and operating Pellegrino’s Fruit and Produce Market in the former Market House on Market St. Mr. Pellegrino was a owner and operator of the former Carlton Manor Restaurant. He retired after 25 years. After his retirement from the Carlton Manor, he worked for Lycoming County for 18 years as Weight Master. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and served on the parish council and the activities committee and was a member of the church’s new construction committee after the church fire in 1972. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He was on the Diosese of Scranton Divine Providence Hospital Building Drive. He was a board member of the Lycoming County Housing Authority for 16 years. He was a past member of the Loyalsock Kiawanis Club, The Knights of Columbus Council #366 and a 4th degree member of the Father Reichsteiner Assembly. Mr. Pellegrino was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in September of 1950 and served with the 28th Battalion. He was a member of the American Legion Garret-Cochran Post #1. Surviving are three sons Stephen M. and daughter-in-law Kathleen, of Delmont, and Dr. John A. and daughter-in-law Kelly, and Frank G. both of city; two daughters Dr. Debra A. and son-in-law, Dr. David J. Smith of Liberty, Mo., Mary M. Mahaffey and son-in-law, Dennis L., of Harrisburg; grandchildren Gregory, Bethany and Mary C. Smith, Liberty, Mo., Christine and Stephanie Pellegrino, Delmont, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Pellegrino, city, and Nicole and Ashley Mahaffey, Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by three brothers Ralph, Frank and Paul; and four sisters Lucy Pellegrino, Josephine Pellegrino, Jenny Tomei and Kathryn Savidge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10:30 a.m. in the church 326 Washington Blvd. with his Pastor Msgr. Stephen McGough officiating. Internment will be at Resurrection Cemetary in Montoursville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Crouse’s 133 E. 3rd St. with a recitation of the rosary at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Msgr. Eugene J. Clark Educational Endowment Fund 326 Washington Blvd.

Phyllis A. Barto
Phyllis Ann Barto, 72, of Muncy, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. She was a graduate of the Class of 1946 from Hughesville High School. She was a member of the Moreland Baptist Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Muncy. She retired in 1990 from GTE Sylvania working at both the Montoursville and Hillsborough, N.H. plants. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting. Born August 27, 1928, she was a daughter of Arthur and Mary Lyons Snyder. Surviving are her former husband of 35 years, Donald L. Barto Sr., five children Linda J. Fenstermacher of Picture Rocks; Virginia A. Zeisloft of Christmas, FL; Douglas L. Barto of Clarkstown; Teresa L. Harman of Hughesville; Daniel L. Barto of Muncy Valley; a brother, LaRue Snyder from Louisiana; three sisters, Mary Ellen Bitler and Joan Swisher both of Millville, and Gloria Bryan of Muncy; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son Donald L. Jr. and granddaughter, Stephanie Ellen Zeisloft both formerly of Florida, and a sister Norma “Sissy” Snyder. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville with the Rev. Carl G. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mariette B. Greenough
On March 18, 2001 Mariette Blaney Greenough of 323 Troy Street, Canton, died peacefully at her home. She was born in Canton on January 17, 1933 to Perry and Bessie Putnam Blaney. Mariette retired in 1996 from Osram-Sylvania, Towanda after more than 31 years of service. Calling hours will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center Street, Canton, with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21.
Gertrude L. Henry
Mrs. Gertrude L. Henry, 92, of Williamsport, Pa., passed away at the Sycamore Manor Health Center, Montoursville, Saturday, March 17, 2001. Born in Laquin, Bradford County, Pa., on June 6, 1909, she was a daughter of Walter and Olive Mapes Drum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Henry, Sr., a brother, Dwight Drum, a granddaughter, Kathryn Peck, and a great granddaughter, Crystal Austin. Gertrude is survived by a sister, Gretchen Ferguson, Williamsport; sons, C. Bruce, Montgomery, Robert P. Jr., Williamsport, Richard L., Sayre; daughters, Mrs. Helen Jacobs, Maryland, Mrs. Ellen LeVan, Florida and Mrs. Mary Ann Fry, South Williamsport. There are 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren surviving. Gertrude loved music and spending her time with her grandchildren. She was employed at Lycoming College as director of housing until her retirement. There will be no visitation. Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Debra L. Laubach
Debra L. Laubach, 47, of Jersey Shore, died Saturday, March 17 at her home. She and her husband, Robert E. observed their 29th anniversary May 7. She was a caregiver for Homemakers Help Services . Born April 28, 1953, she was a daughter of Glen Ray Bay and Shirley Alice Carson. Surviving besides her husband are her mother and stepfather, Shirley Alice and Merrill Carson of Avis; two sons, Glen Ray of Lock Haven and Robert E. Jr. of Jersey Shore; a daughter Bobbie Jo Breon of Jersey Shore; three sisters, Glenda Karncher of Antes Fort, Sharon Getgen of Oval, and Carol Allen of Mill Hall; and two grandchildren, Tamecka Breon and Natasha Koons. Private funeral services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Welker’s, 125 North Main St., Jersey Shore.
Clair F. McCormick
Clair F. McCormick, 94, of 325 Susquehanna Ave., Lock Haven, a guest of Susque-View Home, Lock Haven, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Susque-View. Born October 8, 1906 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late J. Frank and Emma Elizabeth Fry McCormick. He was a 1924 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He had worked his way through college and graduated from Temple University of Philadelphia with a bachelor of science in commerce and a degree in Business Management. On September 12, 1928, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Lock Haven, he married Sara M. Shea, who died on May 14, 1995. During his youth he was a delivery boy for the former Mason Drug Store in Lock Haven. After High School he worked as a troubleshooter for the United Telephone Company of Mill Hall for four years. After graduation from Temple University, he worked for the former Widmann and Tea Drug Store chain as a business manager for 12 years until the business was sold. He then made several trips to Detroit trying to obtain a Chrysler-Plymouth Dealership and then received the same. Mr. McCormick and his wife, Sarah Marie ran the dealership for 30 years and was on Hogan Boulevard since 1960 to its closing on March 15, 1997. He then continued working at his son’s car dealership, the Bob McCormick Ford, Inc., in Hughesville. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, a life member of Lock Haven Elk’s Lodge 182, former member of Lock Haven Lyons Club, a life member of the National Automobile Dealers Association and a volunteer worker at the Susque-View Home, Lock Haven. He is survived by two sons, John V. of Lock Haven and Robert W. of Montoursville; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn A. McCormick of Lock Haven; a grandson, Brian J. McCormick of Montoursville; four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. A funeral mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church, 3 W. Water St., Lock Haven, Wednesday, March 21 at 10 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Monsignor Dennis R. Boggs. Committal in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Vigil of the Deceased at 8 p.m.
Agnes G. Mnick
Agnes G. Mnick, 87, a resident of Newberry, died Sunday, March 18, at the Williamsport Hospital. Born April 14, 1913 in Morris Run, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Mary Jankiewicz Mackowiak. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Mnick was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church for 78 years and a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. Her husband of 54 years, Joseph John Mnick Sr. died Feb. 22, 1988. Surviving are two sons, Joseph J. of Wilmington, N.C. and Thomas M. of Williamsport; two sisters, Irene Gohrig and Mildred Hane both of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Mnick, Stacey Vinson, Christina Butler, Tamara Melling and Kara Mnick; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 East Third Street, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the church, 313 Arch St. with her pastor, Rev. Andrew Krusinski officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel of Wildwood Cemetery.

Helene C. Passell, 86, of Mill Hall died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in the Lock Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Fred M. Passell, who died Sept. 24, 1997. Surviving are a son, Dennis S. of Mill Hall; a daughter, Barbara Hayden of Cranston, RI.; three sisters, Gloria Sulik and Edythe Jaros both of Richard, Va., and Geraldine Burns of Senecca Falls, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
Arthur T. Praster
Arthur T. Praster, 85, of 601 E. Second Ave., South Williamsport, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, the former Marjorie M. Farwell. Mr. Praster retired in 1981 after 46 years of service at Williamsport Hospital where he was director of laundry and linen services. A veteran of World War II, he spent time in the South Pacific as a radar technician with the Army Air Corps., 380th Bomb group. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a graduate of Williamsport High School Class of 1934 and attended Lycoming College after the war. He was a member of 40 et 8 Voiture, past commander of George G. Stover Post 882 American Legion and was a member of the LeRoy O. Buck Post 7863 VFW. He was very active in the credit union movement having served as a charter member and president of the Williamsport Hospital group for many years. He was instrumental in forming the Williamsport Wyrope Federal Credit Union. He also served as president of the Susquehanna Valley League of the Credit Union in the 1970s. Born March 9, 1916 in Williamsport, he was a son of Herbert C. Sr. and Martha Craven Praster. Surviving besides his wife are 3 daughters, Patricia L. Bennett and Janice L. Burtyk both of South Williamsport and Marilyn J. Delisi of city; one son, Thomas A. currently with the State Department in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzogovina; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and a sister Mary Louise Hess. He was preceded in death by two brothers Herbert C. Jr. and Billie D. Praster. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with his pastor, the Rev. Robert L. Driesen officiating. Burial will be held at Twin Hills Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Emma J. Smith, 73, of 421 Montour Street, Montoursville died March 17, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 12, 1927 in Williamsport, a daughter of Chester R. and Helen Jeanette Bussler Schramm. Mrs. Smith and her husband Edgar E. celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on January 6, 2001. She had worked as a self-employed seamstress and was an avid needlepointer; and she was a member of the Eldred Grange and a former member of the Pine Run United Methodist Church. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, David L. of Cogan Station, Ronald E. of Hillsgrove and Gary W. of Montoursville; three brothers, Carl F. and George R. Schramm both of Williamsport and Chester R. Schramm, Jr. of Hurley, NY; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Helen Louise Reams. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with hospice chaplain, Rev. Theodore L. Cockley officiating. Helen M. Sheets Temple
Helen M. Sheets Temple, 95, of Tivoli, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the Muncy Valley Hospital, SNU. She was predeceased by two husbands, Corbett Sheets who died July 3, 1951 and Oscar Edward Temple who died July 1, 1965. She was a member of the Tivoli United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer for 20 years. She ran the kitchen at Crystal Lake for many years. She enjoyed baking, quilting and crocheting. Born Oct. 14, 1905 in Shrewsbury Twp., she was a daughter of George and Agnes Parsons Newman. She is survived by two daughters, Aldine Reeder, of Wmspt. and Janet Kepner of Tivoli; two stepsons, Harold and O. Lee Temple, both of Muncy; a stepdaughter, Freda Pepperman, of Montoursville; two sisters, Grace Stover of Hughesville and Faye Paulhamus of Montoursville; four grandchildren, Steve and Jack Fessler, Gina Harding, and Janine Miller; eight great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; 18 step grandchildren, 31 step great grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two stepsons, R. Earl and Floyd Temple; two brothers, Larue and Cecil Newman; and a sister Ruth Newman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville with the Rev. Samuel P. Reed officiating. Burial will be in Picture Rocks Cemetery. Phillip J. Warriner, 54, of Wellsboro, died March 17, 2001 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born August 17, 1946, he was a son of Harry and Doris Amig Warriner.
