Doris M. Wright
Doris M. Wright, 66, formerly of RR 1 Turbotville, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 in the Skilled Nursing Unit of Muncy Valley Hospital where she had resided since July. She had been employed by the former JC Decker Co., Montgomery until it’s closing and was a private duty caregiver to several area elderly residents. She was a member of Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, RR 1 Watsontown where she was a Sunday School teacher and leader of the youth group. A graduate of Montgomery High School, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and paint-on pictures. Born October 25, 1934 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm L. and Loie L. Barto Wright. Surviving are six brothers and four sisters-in-laws: Charles R. and Sandra Wright of Montgomery; William H. and Beverly Wright of RR 1 Turbotville; Paul E. Wright of Watsontown; Edward E. and Charlene Wright of Antes Fort, O. Michael and Sherry Wright of Montgomery RD; and Norman K. Wright in Florida; and two sisters and brothers-in-law: Janet and Don Rodriquez of McEwensville; and Holly and William Hoover of Watsontown RD. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur E. and a sister, Priscilla “Pat” Raup. The funeral will be Wed., 10 a.m. at Delaware Run Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Michael C. Reece officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Home, Turbotville.

Rae Kopp Staib
Rae Kopp Staib, 94, of 331 Center St., Williamsport, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Roseview Manor. Born Sept. 11, 1906, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Thomas J. & Blanche Bicksler Straub Kopp. Her first husband, Don Hinkelman died in 1948 and her second husband, Harry J. Staib died in 1989. Retiring in 1978, she was a secretary and teller for many years at the former Northern Central Bank. She was a local historian and wrote articles for the Inside Newberry. Surviving are a nephew, Paul E. Thompson of Hughesville; 3 nieces, Vonda Paulfree of Montoursville, Sara Swank and Dianne German, both of Williamsport; and several great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank, Edward and James Kopp, and 4 sisters, Grace Thompson, Sara Fortney, Besse Kopp and Dora Mussina. Graveside services will be held Friday, 3 p.m. at St. Boniface Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Hinkelman officiating. The family will provide the flowers. Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Maneval Funeral Home.

Charles A. Fry
Charles Abram Fry, 87, of 1251 Rural Ave., formerly of Ross St., Williamsport, died March 5, 2001 in Manor Care Health Services North.
Born July 23, 1913, in Presho, SD, he was a son of Harry M. and Jesty M. Reed Fry. Mr. Fry was an employee of Bell Telephone in this city for 33 years and was a self-employed electrician. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bell Atlantic Pioneers, Garrett Cochran Post 1 American Legion, Masonic Lodge 106 F.&A.M., and the Williamsport Consistory. Mr. Fry is survived by his wife, the former Priscilla BeBolt; a daughter, Priscilla “Pat” Turner of city; a grandson, Roger Turner; a sister, Mary Arlene McAllister of Shermans Dale. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald R. Fry. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., with the Rev. Drs. Robert L. Close and George A. Cosper, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund of the church. Sanders Mortuary.

Anthony Palermo
Anthony “Tony” Palermo, 82, of 1911 South 11th Street, Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Williamsport, died suddenly Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his home. He and his wife, the former Margaret Reeder Burlein, would have observed their 40th wedding anniversary on March 19. He retired in 1982 from Dresser Industries of Chicago, was an Army veteran of WWII, a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, and of the Catholic faith. He had played the accordion in bands in Chicago, Ill. and Williamsport. Born January 1, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Joseph and Bridgette Patti Palermo. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Michael of Williamsport; a step-son, William Burlein Jr. of Lisle, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Sandra K. Burlein of Rogers; brothers, Phillip of Hines, Ill., and Joseph of Chicago, Ill.; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in Chicago. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Avenue, with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Friday at funeral home.

Jean E. Dougherty
Jean Elizabeth Dougherty, 70, of Cato, NY & Groveland, Fla., died Friday, March 16, 2001 in Groveland, Fla. Born Jan. 19, 1931, in Larryville, she was the daughter of Robert & Beatrice Huling Overdorf. She retired from Nationwide Insurance, Liverpool, NY in 1987. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Dougherty, Jr., Cato, NY; 3 daughters, Veronica Ann Travis, Gloria Southard & Linda Cummings, all of Cato, NY; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert Overdorf, Montgomery & Scott Overdorf, Hughesville; 4 sisters, Dorothy Ault, Williamsport, Vivian Nick, Rochester, NY, Peggy Crawford & Virgi Croman, both of Montgomery. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-9 p.m., at Jewell’s, 13164 S. Street, Cato, NY. Funeral services held Thursday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Monumental Cemetery, Meridian, NY.

John R. Shireman
John Robert Shireman, 76, of 138 Summer St., DuBoistown, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. Born May 11, 1924, in Montgomery, he was a son of John Lester & Marguerite A. Runyan Shireman. He and his wife, the former June M. Dietterich, were married on Jan. 18, 1945 in South Williamsport. Mr. Shireman retired in 1985 as an electrician with the Koser Electric Company. He was a member of Duboistown United Methodist Church and a retired member of local #812, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. A World War II Army veteran, he attained the rank of Technical Sergeant with the 70th Tank Battalion. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award and served as a guard at the Nuremburg trial. Surviving, besides his wife, are 2 sons, John F. of Jersey Shore and Ronald L. of Williamsport; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. There will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Friday, 11 a.m., at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, with the Rev. Dick Williams, pastor of First Church of Mechanicsburg, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to DuBoistown United Methodist Church, 133 Summer St., Williamsport, PA 17702. Arrangements by Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.

Nellie E. Phillips
Nellie E. Phillips, 83, of 917 Daughertys Run Road, Williamsport, died Monday, March 19, 2001 in Williamsport Hospital. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur “Bill” Phillips, who died in 1987. She was a graduate of Canton Area High School class of 1935. She was a member of the Ralston United Methodist Church. Born November 7, 1917, in Fallbrook, PA she was the daughter of Llewellan and Agnes Stromovitch Bolt. Surviving are two daughters, Judy Minthorn of Ralston and Barbara Miller of Linden; two sons, John and James Frey both of Canton; a stepson, Arthur Phillips, Jr., of Marshall, TX and a granddaughter, Tina Vaughn with whom she lived, as well as numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, one stepson, one stepdaughter, two brothers and a sister. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Sanders, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with her son-in-law, Darren Minthorn, a lay minister, officiating.

Elinor V. Ruhl
Elinor Viola Ruhl, 85, formerly of Hillside Drive, Lock Haven, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Manorcare Health Services North, Williamsport. Born May 11, 1915, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of George E. and Elva Young Litz. Her husband, Ralph R. Ruhl, died March 11, 1969. She had been a homemaker as well as having been employed by the former Ames Dept. Store in Lock Haven. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and sewing. Surviving are grandchildren Kimberly Yorks and Cheryl Gould; a brother, Melvin A. Litz of Linden; a sister, Marjorie M. Campman of Williamsport; 6 great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Rita Ruhl of Lock Haven. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. on Sept. 12, 1991 and a sister, Mildred M. Hamm on March 7, 1978. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. 3rd St., with the Rev. Donald Davis, pastor of Light and Life Chapel officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. The family will provide the flowers.

Helen M. Bennett
Helen Mae Bennett, 75, of 411 Winthrop St., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at the Williamsport Home. Born Jan. 30, 1926, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Charles and Mary Livermore Younkin. Her husband, Daniel H. Bennett, died March 29, 2000. Mrs. Bennett was a nurse’s aide with several area facilities. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no public visitation. Graveside services will be private. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements by Noll’s, 1 Central Ave., South Williamsport.

Rose M. Becker
Rose Marie Becker, 75, of New Port Richey, FL, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at her home. Born Aug. 5, 1925, in Dushore, she was a daughter of Anson & Marie Harder Marshall Monfrini. She and her husband, Clarence Becker, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary March 14. The funeral will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday.

F. Peter Gstalder
F. Peter Gstalder, 75, of 1211 W. Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Kaufman’s, 2102 Northway Road.

Walter P. Haas
Walter P. Haas, 93, of 5 Highland Circle, Chico, Calif., formerly of Reed St., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in California. Arrangements are being handled by Kaufman’s, 2102 Northway Road.

Nicholas M. & Alexandria B. Janetis
Nicholas Mark & Alexandria Bailey Janetis, infant twins of Michael A. & Jaime L. Vossen Janetis, of 2611 Grand St., Williamsport, died shortly after birth on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Surviving in addition to their parents are maternal grandparents, Richard & Joy Vossen of Panama City, FL; paternal grandparents, Richard & Allison Kamienski of this city and Michael & Linda Janetis of West Palm Beach, FL; maternal great grandparents, Cliff & Alta Kurelmeyer and Frances LeVasseur, all of Panama City, FL, Jarres Vossen and Arnie & Shirley Vossen, all of Willmar, Minn.; paternal great grandparents, Elias & Laura Janetis of Pompano Beach, FL. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at The Door Fellowship, 470 Pine St., Williamsport. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Sanders Mortuary.

Joseph P. Lesnikoski
Joseph Peter Lesnikoski, 63, of Albany Township, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at his home. Arrangements are being handled by Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore.

Gladys B. Paulhamus
Gladys B. Paulhamus, 81, of Cogan Station, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. Born Jan. 1, 1920, in Hepburn Township, she was a daughter of Norman and Mary Durrwachter Beach. Her husband, Ralph O. Paulhamus, died Dec. 1, 1971. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm. Gladys was a member of City Church, Salladasburg Senior Citizens and Heshbon Senior Citizens. She was involved in and was a leader of the 4-H Club for many years. She was an avid sewer. Surviving are 4 daughters, Emily Wilcox of this city, Carolyn Deihl of Lewisburg, Colleen Paulhamus of Cogan Station and Arlene Ulmer of Linden; 7 grandchildren; 1 brother, Delos Beach of Cogan Station; 2 sisters, Doris Emig and Bernice Paulhamus, both of this city. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with her pastor, the Rev. Daniel G. Speer, officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.

Orville E. Rolfe
Orville E. “Eddie” Rolfe, 95, formerly of 144 N. Second St., Hughesville, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Muncy Valley Hospital S.N.U. Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Skyler K. Segraves
Skyler Keith Segraves, infant son of Keith and Crystal (Foster) Segraves, 626 Grace St., Williamsport, was born and died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Surviving, besides his parents, are paternal grandparents, George & Joan Segraves of Williamsport; maternal grandparent, Shiela Fox of South Williamsport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Private funeral services will be held Friday at Crouse’s, 133 E. 3rd St., with the Rev. John Manno, pastor of Church of Annunciation, officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
