Accomplished Artist
F. Peter Gstalder, 75, of 1211 W. Mountain Ave., S. Williamsport, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. Born Oct. 5, 1925, in Williamsport, he was the son of Melvin & Carmen Cohick Gstalder. He was an Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre during W.W.II. He was a 1943 graduate of Lycoming College with a major in art and social studies. He was a teacher in the public schools for 3 years, taught Art classes for 25 years, and had 2 art galleries, Park Ave. and Pine St., in Williamsport in the 1960’s and 70’s. He was co-founder of the Bald Eagle Art league in 1972. He was the winner of many area and regional awards. He had 60 one-man shows. His artwork is in permanent collections at Penn College, Lycoming College, Lock Haven and Mansfield Universities, Millbrook Art Gallery and the Lycoming Historical Society. He is survived by a son, Peter Mike Gstalder, Montoursville; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Lou Brion, Bethlehem and Doris Kauffman, York. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Daren K. Williams of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be private. Family will provide the flowers. Gertrude F. Craven
Gertrude F. Craven, 81, of Hazlet, NJ, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Victoria House Health Care Center, Matawan, NJ. Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late John & Virginia Dincher. She was a Nurses Aid for the former Oak View Nursing Home, Parlin, NJ, for over 10 years. Mrs. Craven was a communicant of Jesus the Lord, Keyport. She was a member of the Keyport Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; Keyport Senior Citizens; and past member of the Open Door Club, Keyport. She loved to garden vegetables and was a wanna be writer. Surviving are a daughter & son-in-law, Joyce M. & Gary Lannon of Highland Park, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Jane Craven of Freehold, NJ; a sister, Kitty Rogers of Williamsport; a sister-in-law, Mary Dincher of Williamsport; grandchildren, Sean, Hortencia, Bill & Dan Crosby, Tracy & husband Joe Kociolek, Chris, Jane & Drew Craven; great grandson, Zechariah Crosby. She was preceded in death by her son, Marvin C. Craven, Aug. 6, 1999. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m., at Jesus the Lord R. C. Church, Keyport, NJ. Harry C. Payne
Harry C. Payne, 74, of Tampa, FL, died March 15, 2001. He was born June 27, 1926, in Williamsport and moved to Tampa in 1976. He was a truck salesman for Lyco Truck Sales & Service and a Navy veteran of WWII. Harry was a member of John F. Laedlein Lodge 707, Williamsport Consistory, Tampa Shrine and American Legion Post 104. Survivors include his son, Jeffrey L. of Venice, FL; a sister, Jean Robinson of Buffalo, NY; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. There will be no memorial service. The Neptune Society of Clearwater is in charge. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Larry L. Laubscher Jr., 33, of RD2 Lock Haven, died March 21, 2001 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Aug. 18, 1967, in Lock Haven, he was the son of Larry L. & Linda Peter Laubscher Sr. Surviving are a son, Jason L. of Mill Hall, his parents, a sister & brother, maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles & nephews. Dorothy G. Kreamer
Dorothy G. Kreamer, 92, formerly of Avis, PA, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Palmyra, PA. She was born in Loganton, daughter of Daniel & Linnie Lamey. Her husband, William H. Kreamer, died in 1979. Surviving are 1 daughter, Pretta Hose of Muncy; 2 sons, Dean Kreamer of Hershey & John Kreamer of Harrisburg; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m., from Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. There is no visitation.
Walter P. Haas
Walter P. Haas, 93, of 5 Highland Circle, Chico, CA, formerly of Reed St., Williamsport, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Chico, CA. Born July 3, 1907, in Reading, PA, he was the son of J. Walter & Lillian M. Oese Haas. He and his wife, the former Elsie A. Hill, would have celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on March 26. His first wife, Isabel M. Bundy Haas, died Dec. 13, 1986. He was a 1926 graduate of Williamsport High School. He retired in 1972 after 43 years with the former Capitol Bakers, Harrisburg and Williamsport where he was vice president and sales director. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Chico, CA. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and traveling. He was a 32-degree mason with Lodge 707, Williamsport Scottish Rite, and Irem Shrine, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving, besides his wife, are 1 daughter, Judy Lee Henderson, Sparks, Nevada; 1 stepson, Randy Hill, Chico, CA; 1 stepdaughter, Linda Henderson, Forest Ranch, CA; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin, St. Mark Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Love C. Hill, 76, of High St., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. He had shared his life with Elsie L. Bolden. He was born in Georgia, March 6, 1925 and came to Williamsport in 1952. He was a self employed concrete contractor and a member of Edgar A. Still Lodge #207 IPOE of W.
Survivors include Elsie L. Bolden; three daughters, Velda and Dana Stewart and Veronica Bolden, all of this city; a granddaughter, Deja Stewart, and grandson, Rodney Stewart. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 26, at 7 p.m. at Christ’s Temple Apostolic Church, 436 W. Fourth St., with Bishop Marvin Reeves officiating. Pearl F. Barto
Pearl F. Barto, 95, formerly of R.R.1, Montgomery, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit where she resided since February 1998. Her husband, Paul L. Barto, died Nov. 23, 1971. Born Oct. 2, 1905 in Montgomery, she was the daughter of Charles M. and Martha Houseknecht Frantz. She was a graduate of Muncy High School, Muncy Normal School and Williamsport School of Business. Since 1925, she had been a life member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, Montgomery. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and served as secretary for many years. She and her husband raised chickens and packaged eggs on their farm in Montgomery. They also operated a stand at the former Williamsport Growers Market. Pearl had been employed by Young Industries in Muncy in the 1920s. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Surviving are a son, Richard P. Sr. of Montgomery, 3 grandsons, Richard P. Barto Jr. and Donald E. Barto of Montgomery and Bruce L. Barto of Harleysville, 7 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 3 sisters, Mary Lilley, Bertha Lilley and Hazel Metzger. The funeral will be Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at her church, R.R.1, Montgomery. Officiating will be Rev. Scott W. Baker, her pastor. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Kathryn (Cornell) Foulkrod, 81, of Austinville, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2001. She was the wife of Ernest Foulkrod. Kathryn is survived by 1 son; 3 daughters; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. Calling hours at Vickery Funeral Home Inc., 110 W. Main St., Troy, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Troy.
Rachel Mazie Leuck
Rachel M. Leuck, 84, born June 21, 1916, went home to her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2001, after a short illness while at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y. She resided at 15 Winding Road, Rochester. She was the former Rachel Mazie Heilman of Strawberry Ridge, Danville. She was a daughter of Grover Heilman and Nellie Matilda Knecht and reared by her mother and step-father, Edmond J. Roedts. Rachel was a 1934 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She was a graduate of the School of Nursing, Bellvue Hospital, N. Y. She was active in Bible Club for many years. Rachel was a former resident of Cogan Station. She had been a member of Memorial Baptist Church and after moving to Rochester, she became a member at Evangelical Church of Fairport, N.Y. Rachel was the beloved wife of Russell J. Leuck for 63 years. Rachel had 3 children, Sandra J. Breon of Rochester, Fred R. of Lapeer, Mich., and Gary J. of Trout Run. She also had the privilege of raising 2 foster children, Mary Johnson of Midway, Ga., and Jackie Bower of Va. Rachel was the grandmother of 8 children and the great-grandmother of 8 children. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Probst, and her brother, George Roedts. There will be a viewing Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sanders, 821 Diamond St. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the Memorial Baptist Church, 2100 W. Third St. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be given to the Bible Club Movement, P.O. Box 10, Linden, Pa., 17744.
Richard E. Lockcuff
Richard E. Lockcuff, 76, of 7059 State Route 184 Highway, Trout Run (White Pine), died Friday, March 23, 2001 at home. Born Oct. 23, 1924 in Linden, he was a son of William L. and Grace Young Lockcuff. Dick was an Army veteran of the South Pacific theatre during World War II, having received a purple heart and numerous other medals. He was a member of George Pepperman Post 36, American Legion, Jersey Shore, and LeRoy Buck Post 7863, V.F.W., DuBoistown. An avid hunter and fisherman, Dick belonged to the Lone Walnut Hunting Club. Having worked for Avco Lycoming for 34 years, he was a member of the U.A.W. Union Local 787. Dick and his wife, the former Cora G. Miller, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last June 25. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kim M. Lockcuff at home, and Sherry L. Sheddy of Salladasburg; a brother Lewis and a sister, Sylvia Belton, both of Linden; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Richard E. Lockcuff, II; brothers Dallas, Jim, Paul and William; and sisters Merna Marshall, Edith Bryan and Grace Goodbrod. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Linden United Methodist Church with the Revs. Judith Hulslander and Harry R. “Bud” Yoder officiating. Friends may call at the church from noon to service time Monday. Burial with military honors will be in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials be given to either Hope Missions, P.O. Box 230, Cogan Station, Pa., 17728 or the Cleveland Clinic Heart Foundation, P.O.
