Alma J. Thomas, 68, of 605 Cherry St., Williamsport, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 in ManorCare North. She was born Aug. 21, 1932 in English Center, the daughter of Norman E. & C. Alice Carson Dowling. She is survived by a son, Stephen W. Dowling of Jersey Shore; 2 brothers, John H. of English Center & Norman L. of this city; 3 sisters, Virginia Averill with whom she lived, Lela Yoder of English Center & Connie Spong of this city; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Houser and 5 brothers, Carl, Clair, Norman E. Jr., Merle, & Lee. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.
Arthur C. Quinn
Arthur C. Quinn, 89, of Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, formerly of Williamsport, died March 25, 2001. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary H. Neff. Burial will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at Masonic Homes Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 10:30 a.m., at John S. Frederick E. Conable
Frederick E. Conable, Major, USAF, Retired, 69, of Galeton, died March 24, 2001. Born April 19, 1931 in Ellicottville, NY, the son of Seth W. & Minnie Burrous Conable. Surviving are his wife, the former Joan Rose; a daughter, Candy Withers; 2 grandsons; 1 brother; nieces & nephews. The funeral will be Thursday, 11 a.m., West Pike Baptist Church, with Military Rites. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Collins-Olney’s, Galeton.
Ruby K. Caldwell
Ruby K. Caldwell, 87, of 455 S. Highland St., Lock Haven, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Centre Community Hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Jacksonville, PA. Her husband, Fenton H. Caldwell, died March 23, 1993. Surviving is a daughter, Janis C. Dean of Lock Haven. The funeral will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday. Burial in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
George T. Eisenhuth
Mr. George T. Eisenhuth, 76, 1725 Wheeland Drive, Williamsport, PA, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at HCR Manor Care - South. Mr. Eisenhuth retired from the former Williamsport Plant of Bethlehem Steel Company where he had been employed as a splicer and a foreman. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War Two. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. Mr. Eisenhuth was a charter and life member and had held the position of Post Chaplain for many years at the Leroy O. Buck Post # 7863 V.F.W., DuBoistown. He had received the V.F.W. award for outstanding dedication to the welfare of the post and veterans concerns. He was born January 15, 1925 at Williamsport, the son of Jacob A. and Irene C. Bower Eisenhuth. Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Mae Kinley; together they observed their 57th wedding anniversary this past January 31st. Also surviving are two daughters, Lana E. Ward, Williamsport, Deborah K. McElheny, Jersey Shore; one son, George G., Florida; two sisters, Eloise Gomez and Doris Bower, both in Florida; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. There will be no visitation. Audrey J. “Betty” Ertel
Audrey J. “Betty” Ertel, 81, of Westminster Drive, Williamsport, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001. Her husband, Donald W. Ertel, of over 50 years, died in 1996. Mrs. Ertel was a graduate of Williamsport High School, class of 1937. Her career included work with the WPA in Washington DC, as a business associate with Ertel’s Kitchens in State College, and as a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Born on September 22, 1919 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Mildred Meck Stover. Surviving are three sons, Mark R. of Lancaster, Greg M. of Williamsport, and Ross S. of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren; and locally there are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Vanderlin. A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with her pastor, the Rev. David L. Phillips.

Eleanor I. Jackson
Eleanor I. Jackson, 85, of 2240 Wheatland Avenue, Williamsport, PA, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at her home. She was born February 5, 1916, at South Williamsport. She was the daughter of Harry R. and Anna E. McLaughlin Billman. She was a member of the Womens Club of Williamsport and a life-long member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport. She is survived by her husband, Louis B. Jackson; her daughter, Judith J. Tharaud, Maplewood, N.J.; her granddaughter, Lauren H. Tharaud, Maplewood, N.J.; and her brother, Harry E. Billman, Spring Hill, Florida. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2001. The Rev. Robert L. Driesen, her pastor will officiate in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Messiah Lutheran Church, 324 South Howard Street, South Williamsport. Private burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. Betty J. Lupold
Betty Jean Lupold, of 3583 West Fourth St., Williamsport, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at her home. Born in Clarksburg, WV, she was the daughter of Anna E. Dilley. Betty graduated from Williamsport High School and worked for the former Weldon’s Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Her husband of 51 years, Charles “Paul” Lupold, died March 3, 2000. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jack Bowen of city; daughter Paula Lupold at home; and grandchildren, John and Erica Bowen of city. Private services were held Wednesday with burial in Wildwood Cemetery. Sanders Mortuary.

Frank Alfred Stout II, 19, of 3907 Ural St., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a graduate of Bay High School and worked for Gaddie Marine Co. He is survived by his parents, Frank & Trudi Stout, Panama City Beach; 3 sisters, Heather & Randy Recor, Sheran & Shannon Stout, all of Panama City Beach; grandparents, Russell K. & Bertha Stout II, Panama City Beach, Randy & Patricia Probst, Milton, Fla., Dave & Arlen Hurd, Jersey Shore; an uncle, Russell K. & Nancy Stout III & family, Panama City Beach; an aunt, Marie Hurd, Tampa, Fla.; aunt & uncle, Randy & Kim Renninger & family, Jersey Shore; an aunt, Becky Hurd, Portland, Ore. Services were held in Florida.

Caroline B. Grieco, 83, of 926 Hollywood Circle, Williamsport, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001. Born Oct. 9, 1917, in Rote, She was a daughter of Elmer and Vergie Caris Brown. Her husband, Dr. Victor F. Grieco, died July 25, 1981. She was a graduate of Lock Haven Teachers College and past Alumni Chairman of Lock Haven Univ. She was a school teacher in Emporium and Sinnemahoning and at Lock Haven High School. She was a member of Church of the Annunciation, member and Honorary President of the PA Medical Society Alliance, past president of the Lycoming County Medical Society Alliance and PA Medical Society Gavel Club, Wmspt. Hosp. Auxiliary, Divine Providence Hosp. Auxiliary, the Clio Club, the Williamsport Woman’s Club, Lycoming County Historical Society, Lycoming County SPCA and the Friends of the James V. Brown Library. Surviving are a son, William F. Grieco of West Chester; 2 daughters, Ms. Susan M. Grieco and Victoria G. Anderton, both of this city; 2 sisters, Mrs. Violet Henry and Miss Marguerite Brown, both of Lock Haven; and 6 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church, 702 W. 4th St. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. 3rd St., Saturday morning from 8:45 to 9:45.
