Helen E. Russell, 80, of 330 Winters Lane, Montoursville, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, William A. Russell, died April 4, 1985. Born August 26, 1920 in Fairfield Twp., she was the daughter of Glenn D. and Elverda Miller Williams. Helen is survived by 3 sons, Glenn J. Jacobs and William L., both of Williamsport and Robert D. of Montoursville; 3 daughters, Mary L. and Helen M., both of Montoursville and Barbara A. of Virginia; a brother, Robert G. Williams of Linden; 2 sisters, Beatrice Hunter and Georgeine Liddic, both of Williamsport; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Spitler's, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Robert Wallace of the Third St. United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday from 9-10:30 a.m.
George W. Kehrer
George W. Kehrer, 86, of 771 Glenwood Ave., Williamsport, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Eleanor Carl, were married July 13, 1952. Mr. Kehrer was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He was Financial Aid Director for Williamsport Area Community College. He was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the Wheel Inn, Ralston. Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother-in-law, Dr. Kenneth E. Carl of this city; a nephew, Raymond E. Kehrer, Jr., of this city; three nieces, Joann Ertel of DuBoistown, Marilyn Seeling of Trout Run and Susan Best of this city. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sanders', 821 Diamond St., with his former pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Close and his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Dennis L. Otto officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 1-2 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.
Caroline J. Sholder
Caroline J. Sholder, 89, of 1214 Market St., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Sycamore Manor. Her husband, William Dale Sholder, died Nov. 12, 1985. She was the drapery department manager for Sears, when it was in downtown for 19 years. She attended St. Joseph's School and was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church and their Senior Citizens Group. She joined the Williamsport Hospital Volunteer Nurses Aid Class in 1934, volunteered at the Divine Providence Hospital coffee & gift shops and the American Red Cross and was a member of the Divine Providence Hospital Aux. Born April 15, 1911 in Williamsport, a daughter of Peter and Caroline Losch Jackson. Surviving are a stepson, Jere R. Sholder and a brother, Louis B. Jackson, both of Williamsport. She was predeceased by brothers Fredrick and James and a sister Jane. Memorial service, 3 p.m. Friday at the church, West Fourth & Walnut Streets, with her priest officiating. Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, no visitation. The family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions be made to the charity of the donors choice. Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
Carl L. Reynolds
Carl L. Reynolds, 50, of 1402 Quaker Hill Rd., Cogan Station, died April 2, 2001, at home. He and his wife, the former Lisa A. Millhouse, would have celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary June 30. Born Jan. 29, 1951 in Troy, PA, he was a son of William and Louise Spencer Reynolds. He was employed at the West Co. Carl was a 1968 graduate of Williamsport High School, coached AYSO and was problem captain and judge for Odyssey of the Mind. Surviving besides his wife are his parents of Williamsport; 1 son, Brent and 1 daughter, Ashley, both at home; 3 sisters, Barbara Fitzwater, Emily Jean and Linda Rhodes, all of Williamsport; 2 brothers, William C. Reynolds, Jr., of Easton, MD, and John Reynolds of Harrisburg. A Memorial Service will be held at Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church, 656 W. Creek Road, Hepburnville on Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend William J. Younger officiating. Burial will be private. Ernest Poole
Ernest "Duke" Poole, 74, of 128 West Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in the Williamsport Hospital. Duke was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Williamsport, a son of Ernest and Daisy Walter Poole. He served in the Army from 1949 to 1950. He was a 50 year member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union Local 19. He also was a member of Dietrick Lamade Lodge 755, F.&A.M., Williamsport Consistory and Zafar Grotto. His first wife, the former Betty Lou Hudgens, died May 22, 1984. He is survived by his second wife, the former Doris R. Watts, whom he married Feb. 8, 1986. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Lou and Harold Fullmer of DuBoistown; grandsons Kyle and Mark Fullmer; and brothers Robert of Pelham, PA and Richard of Waverly, NY. A masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., followed by a visitation until 8:30. A funeral service will follow at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore L. John C. Gorasi
John C. Gorasi, 87, of 2001 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Manor Care, Jersey Shore. He and his wife, the former Ida D. Miele, were married June 10, 1947. Mr. Gorasi retired from the PA Railroad and Ray-O-Vac. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. A Navy veteran of WWII, he was also a member of Post # 844 Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Moose Lodge # 145. Born September 24, 1913 in Linden, he was the son of Eugene and Angela Costanzia Gorasi. Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Nancy M. Jennings of Stroudsburg, Marie A. Kehler of this city, Kathy A. Plymette of Virginia Beach, VA, Joyce L. Grove of Linden; and 10 loving grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Annunciation Catholic Church, 410 Walnut St., with the Rev. Fr. Nicholas E. Nnabuaku officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Orville E. Rolfe
Orville Edward "Eddie" Rolfe, 95, a former long time resident of 144 North 2nd Street, Hughesville, died on March 21, 2001 at the Skilled Nursing Unit, Muncy. His wife, Edna Julia Carty, died in 1931.
He retired as a Supervising mechanic for commercial airlines and was a graduate of Parks Air College, East St. Louis, Ill. He worked as a jeweler for 17 years in Hutchinson, KS. While in Hutchinson, he belonged to the Masonic Lodge # 445 and also the Wichita Consistory. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in World War II. Locally, he was a member of the Glenn Sharow Post 35, American Legion and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.
He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, January 27, 1906, the son of Orville Preston and Mary Louise Martel Rolfe.
He is predeceased by his wife Julia, a daughter Diane Edna Rolfe, two brothers, Orin Scott and Lawrence Dana Rolfe, and a sister, Eva Beatrice Rolfe.
A graveside memorial service along with Military graveside honors by combined military organizations will be held Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, with his pastor, Rev. Bethany Wood, officiating. McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Inc., Hughesville is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph E. Sayers Jr.
Ralph E. Sayers Jr., 74, of RR1 Lock Haven (Youngdale), died April 3, 2001 at Williamsport Hospital. He had entered the hospital March 15, 2001. Born July 7, 1926 in McElhattan, he was the son of the late Ralph E. & Rebecca Staver Sayers Sr.
He was a 1944 graduate of Lock Haven High School and was of the protestant faith. Ralph was employed by the Williamsport Job Service from June 1972 until his retirement Dec. 1 of 1995. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Unemployment Compensation Manager.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1971, retiring with the rank of 1st Sergeant. In WWII, he served with the 1st Marine Div., seeing combat during the Okinawa Campaign (1945). He also served in North China 45 & 46. He later served in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Air Wing (1968-1969). He was also deployed with the 2nd Marine Regiment during the Cuban Crisis. He received some 12 decorations during his career.
Ralph was a member of the Williamsport Detachment Marine Corps League, VFW DuBoistown, 1st Marine Div. Assoc., 2nd Marine Div. Assoc. & China Marine Assoc. He was also a member of the Wayne Twp. Planning Commission and had served on the Linnwood Cemetery Assoc. for a number of years. He enjoyed collecting antique bottles.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Lisa) Hering of McElhattan; 1 son, Ralph E. Sayers III of Lewisburg; 3 grandchildren, Justin, Ethan & Greta Hering, all of McElhattan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Remick.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at Linnwood Cemetery, McElhattan, with full Military Honors. Friends will be received in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Lester C. Seyler
Mr. Lester C. Seyler, 89, of Blanchard, Pa., died early Wednesday morning, April 4, 2001 in the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit. Born March 5, 1912 in Loganton, Pa., he was the son of Turbet Seyler and the former Maude Matter. He is survived by his wife, the former Rilla G. Cashner. They were united in marriage November 25, 1937 in Loganton. For many years, he was a self-employed farmer in Sugar and Nittany Valleys. Later in his life he worked and retired from James P. Webb Road Construction. He attended the Mission Bible Church in Lock Haven. Surviving are his wife Rilla of Blanchard; 1 son, George F. Seyler of Loganton; 2 daughters, Nancy R. Hudson of Millsboro, Delaware, Nellie E. Lucas of Beech Creek, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Edna Wagner of Jersey Shore, Pa. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Main & Water Streets, Loganton, Pa. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home. Rev. John Confer, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Rosecrans.

Kenneth R. Philliips Jr.
Kenneth R. Phillips, Jr., 51, of 1146 West 4th Street, Williamsport, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness. He had been employed as a truck driver. He was a life member of VFW Post 3428, Muncy and enjoyed hunting, playing baseball and Nascar racing. He was a graduate of the Williamsport High School. An Army veteran, he served in the Vietnam War. Born December 1, 1949 in Williamsport, he was a son of Kenneth R. Sr., and Eleanor K. Steppe Phillips. Surviving, in addition to his father and step mother, Bonnie J. Phillips, are two daughters, Kenna V. Albert, city and Ciara Smith, Austin, TX; a brother, Jeffrey F. Kontz, Jersey Shore; a sister, Lisa M. Phillips, city; and two grandsons, Tyler L. C. and Levi D. Albert, both of this city. Memorial service, 10 a.m. Saturday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Avenue, with Rev. Sandi L. Foster, of Trout Run U. M. Church, officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. No visitation. The family will provide the flowers.
Samuel M. Barnes
Samuel M. Barnes, 66, of 233 West Southern Ave., South Williamsport, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School Class of 1953, and attended some colleges. Mr. Barnes retired last year from Textron Lycoming, where he worked as an Industrial Engineer. A member of Lycoming Creek Angler's Club and the NRA, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the PA Sheriff's Assoc., and the West Branch Manufacturing's Assoc. He was part of the Fire Police with S. Wmspt. Citizens Fire Company #2, and DuBoistown Fire Company #8, and a friend of the S. Wmspt. Police Dept. He was one of the co-founders of the Women's Softball League in S. Wmspt., and he was actively involved in S. Wmspt. Little League. He also volunteered at the Rescue Mission. Born on December 12, 1934 in Leolyn, he was the son of Royal B. and Mary E. Greenway Barnes. Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce M. Bowman. They would have celebrated 47 years of marriage October 3rd of this year. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Minniti of York and Sheri Baity of Covington; two sons, Donald of Crestview, FL, and Samuel of Vacaville, CA; six grandchildren, Bryan, Jamie, Ashley, Chris, Brandon and Christian; one great granddaughter, Jessica; and one brother, Robert Barnes of Newberry. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Donald and Lewis, and one sister, Ann Bartron. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Sanders', 821 Diamond St., Wmspt.
