May R. Francis, 94, of Williamsport, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Williamsport Home. Her husband, Paul A. Francis, Sr., died in 1984.
She attended South Williamsport High School and Wheaton Commercial School. Retiring in 1966, she worked for the former Darling Valve in the accounting department. She was a member of Covenant Central Presbyterian Church but attended the Friends Church. She was a former member and Sunday School teacher of Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Williamsport Story League. She was a volunteer for the Lycoming County Chapter of American Red Cross and the Lycoming County Historical Museum.
Born Dec. 24, 1906 in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of William and Sarah Brunner Reaser. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Rozelle of State College and Ann Apelian of Leonia, NJ; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Kaufman Funeral Home, 2102 Northway Road, with her son-in-law, Jack A. Rozelle officiating. Burial will be in White Pine Cemetery. Raymond L. Lyons
Raymond L. Lyons, 62, 360 Percy Street, South Williamsport, PA, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at his home, following an extended illness.
Mr. Lyons retired in 2000, after 36 years of service as a tube fabricator with Kvaerner Pulping, Inc., Williamsport.
He was a member of the Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, South Williamsport, PA. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Susque Hunting Club at Proctor, PA. He had served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He was a graduate of the class of 1956 at South Williamsport High School.
He was born January 14, 1939, at Williamsport, the son of the late Raymond F. and Viola R. Sanders Lyons.
Surviving are his wife, the former Patricia M. Lundy, two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. and Dawn M., Williamsport, James L. and Sherrie A., Montgomery, one daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl A. and Stephen C.T. Fertitta, Williamsport, a sister Mary C. Fish, Jersey Shore, a brother, George E., Cogan Station, one granddaughter Erica M. Seyler, four grandsons, Shawn P. Seyler, Cody T. Fertitta, James R. Lyons, and Zachary J. Lyons, and two step grandchildren, Lisa M. and Jesse H. Feritta.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 800 West Central Avenue, South Williamsport. The Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, his priest, will be the celebrant. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m., until 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, PA. The family will provide flowers.

Helen C. Bobb, 84, resident of RR 1 Watsontown, formerly of Muncy, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 in the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 17 at 10 a.m. in the Twin Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy.
Arlena J. Burley
Arlena J. "Twink" Burley, 86, a resident of 262 Montgomery St., Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Oct. 26, 1914 at Sonestown, Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Suzann Hazen Starr. She was a 1932 graduate of Hughesville High School. Her husband, William L. Burley preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1980. Arlena was the proprietor of the former Burley's Grocery Store, Montgomery. She was a member of the Clinton Baptist Church Montgomery where she had served as organist for over 15 years. She enjoyed bowling and was an inductee of the Milton Bowling Hall of Fame and was an avid bingo fan. She was a member of the first Hemlock Girl Scout troop of Lycoming County.
She is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Sally A. Burley of Montgomery, and Connie L. and Robert Hagerman of Turbotville; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey W. and Kimberly Burley of Altus, OK; 1 brother and 2 sisters-in-law James and Doris Starr of Hughesville, and Helen Bender of Montoursville. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marnie L. Wilson and 4 brothers, Melvin, Carlos, Rufus and Donald Starr.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. The family will provide the flowers. Michael R. Copen
Drowning Victim
Michael R. Copen 37, of 434 Sheridan St., Williamsport, died Friday April 13, 2001, in Williamsport. Born May 6, 1963 in Williamsport he was a graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1981, and was in the United States Army.
Surviving is his father William R. Copen, with whom he lived and his mother and stepfather Carl E. and Emma Jane Kingston, Linden.
Surviving in addition to his parents are 2 brothers William A. with whom he lived and John Paul of Williamsport, 3 sisters Cindy Steinback, Elimsport, Tammy Koons, Jersey Shore, Carla Kingston, Bloomsburg and nieces and nephews and a Maternal grandfather Miles Gamble of Linden.
There will be visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Sanders, 821 Diamond St. In lieu of flowers, contributions to assist expenses in Michael's name should be made to Emma Jane Kingston, c/o Charles Lynn, P.O. Box 89, Linden, PA 17744.
Hazel E. Waltz
Hazel E. Waltz, 98, of 1316 Colvin Rd., died Saturday, April 14, 2001 in the Williamsport Home following a brief illness.
She was married to Merlin O. Waltz who died on June 26, 1983.
She was a member of the Buchanan Baptist Church and enjoyed playing bingo.
Born on June 24, 1902 in Snow Shoe, Pa., she was a daughter of Phillip and Mary Ellen Christen Freise.
Surviving is a son, Merlin W., city; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, 11 brothers and 4 sisters.
Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation, family will provide flowers. Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
Devin R. Stage
Devin R. Stage, 17, of Lawrenceville, died Sat., April 14, 2001. Born June 7, 1983, he was a son of Steven and Crystal Short Stage. Surviving also are a brother Craig, Lock Haven; and 2 sisters, Casey and Janel, at home. He was a junior at Williamson High School.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tussey-Mosher's, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Burial will be in Powers Cemetery. Visitation from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Harold J. Smith
Harold J. Smith, 86, of 519 Seventh Ave., died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at ManorCare Health Services South.
He and his wife, the former Helen R. Callahan, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Nov. 23. He retired from the PA Dept. of Transportation in 1978. A member of Church of Annunciation, he was an eucharistic minister and an adult alter server. He volunteered at many area nursing homes.
Born July 3, 1914 in Williamsport, he was a son of William R. and Mary C. Cosgrove Smith. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, William J. of Davie, Fla.; a daughter, Eileen M. McGrew of Lancaster; a sister, Elsie M. Costaggini of Washington, D.C.; 4 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church, 702 W. Fourth St. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call at Crouse's, 133 E. Walter E. Holdren
Walter E. "Hop" Holdren, 59, of Loganton, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at home. Born Dec. 12, 1941 in Lock Haven, he was the son of Russel and Helen Holdren. He and his wife, the former Bonnie L. Courter were married May 21, 1960.
He was a 1959 graduate of Sugar Valley High School. Besides farming in Sugar Valley, he was employed at International Paper Co. since 1966. Previously he hauled milk for Sheffield Dairies in Mill Hall. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Social Club and Miles Twp. Fire Co. Hop was an avid hunter.
Surviving besides his parents of Tylersville and his wife of Loganton are 3 sons, Rusty, Randy and Ron, all of Loganton; a sister, Belva Kerstetter of Tylersville; and 5 grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Welker's, 95 E. Main St., Loganton, with the Rev. Kay Schwab of the Albright United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Tylersville.

Howard R. Henne, Sr.
Howard R. Henne, Sr., 78, of 833 Rusty Anchor Court, Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, formerly of Factory Road, Cogan Station, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital, SC.
He and his wife, Irene A. Jones Henne, celebrated 48 years of marriage last Nov. 27, in South Carolina, where they had moved four years ago. Mr. Henne was a self-employed carpenter before retiring in 1980. He was an avid fisherman off the South Carolina Coast, and also was a hunter for many years. He was a former member of Christ Episcopal Church, and he was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Bobcat Tank Division.
Born March 24, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of LeRoy and Beatrice Babb Henne. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Howard R. Jr. of South Williamsport and Dale E. of Williamsport; two daughters, Pamela R. Doane and Cynthia I. Hughes, both of Cogan Station; 11 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and one brother, Samuel L. Henne of city. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Sanders', 821 Diamond St. with the Rev. Mark T. Mahserjian-Smith of Hepburn Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Stoltz Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders. Family will provide the flowers.
