George Britton, 81, of 2201 Lincoln Drive, Williamsport, died Sunday, August 12, 2001 at home. His wife Catherine B. Britton died Sept. 12, 2000. Born August 7, 1920 in S. Williamsport, he was the son of George and Lena Gaugler Britton. He retired in 1980 as the owner of Britton’s Hauling. He was a former member of Loyalsock Twp. Vol. Fire Co., 25 years and was a captain. Surviving are 1 son, Carl Britton of Williamsport; 1 daughter, Carol Randall of Cogan Station; 1 grandson, Rodney Starr of Cogan Station and 1 granddaughter, Carrie Bissett of Norfolk, VA. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001 at Kaufman Funeral Home, 2102 Northway Road, Williamsport, with the Rev. David Bixler of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
Kathleen J. Croucher
Kathleen J. Croucher, 70, of 2449 Ritchey St., died Saturday, August 11, 2001 in the Williamsport Hospital. Born Dec. 7, 1930 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Clarence and Mary Ellis Fisher. Following the death of her first husband, Russell B. Cole, who died in 1981, she marriage Donald A. Croucher, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Croucher was a member of New Covenant United Church of Christ. She also belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 145, the Auxiliary of VFW Post 7863, DuBoistown, and the American Legion in Muncy. She retired from Litton Industries. Surviving are a son, Clifford B. Cole of Montgomery; two grandsons, Eric and Jason Cole, both of Richmond VA; two sisters, Betty Stroup of city and Cheryl Showalter of Niceville, FL; two nieces, Carol Combs and Charisse Blumberg; and a nephew, Luther Stroup, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Druckenmiller, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. Constantine E. Jansson
Constantine E. Jansson, 73, of 124 N. Cherry St., Frackville, died Friday, August 10, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Trinity E.C. Church, 56 N. Balliet St., Frackville. Visitation will be at the church from 10-11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Nice’s, 9-11 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville.
Hayes A. McEwen
Hayes A. McEwen, III, 53, of Riverside Drive, Duboistown, died suddenly on Sunday, August 12, 2001 at his residence. Born January 15, 1948 in Williamsport, he was a son of Hayes A. II and Emily (Snyder) McEwen. Mr. McEwen was production operations manager for North Central Sight Services, Inc. and was an active member of the Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped, serving as chairman of the board from 1988 to 1990. He was a member of the Turbot Hills Golf Club. A 1965 graduate of South Williamsport High School, he received an associate degree in Liberal Arts from Lock Haven University in 1967. On August 15, 1970 in South Williamsport, he marriage the former Linda L. Kreger, who survives along with his mother of Loyalsock Twp., a son, Hayes IV, at home, and a brother, Tracy of Mountville. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kurt McEwen. Funeral services for Mr. McEwen will be held on Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. William T. Anderson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Catawissa, officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and until the hour of services on Wednesday. Ila J. Poust, 97, of Muncy, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 at Valley View N.C. in Montoursville. She was born June 21, 1904 in Spartenburg, PA. Ila is predeceased by her husband James (Roy) Poust. Surviving are a son, William Bartley of Duboistown; 2 daughters, Idabelle Eck of Oval and Ilene Falk of Rauchtown; 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Alma C. Scott, 80, of 1134 Hadtner Ave., Williamsport, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 at Manor Care North. Her husband, William W. Scott, died December 26, 1998. Born Feb. 8, 1921 in Shamokin, she was a daughter of John and Frances Bonczak Daunis. The funeral will be Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with Rev. Thomas P. Shoback of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church officiating. Entombment will be in the Twin Hills Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 1-2 p.m.
Marguerite E. Stoler
Marguerite E. Stoler, 79, who resided at 38 Bower St., Montgomery for the past 3 years, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 at the Muncy Valley Hospital. She was formerly of Muncy. She previously was employed by the former Muncy Silk Mill and also worked at the Fort Brady Hotel in Muncy. She was a social member of the Bower-Decker Post #251 American Legion, Montgomery, the Roland Ritter Post #268 American Legion, Muncy and the Edward J. Smith Post #3428, V.F.W., Muncy. Born March 30, 1922 in Muncy Twp., she was the daughter of Chester and Mary Harmon Stoler. Surviving are several cousins. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Officiating will be the Rev. D. Gene Patterson, pastor of Muncy Baptist Church. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
Harold Elroy Terry
Harold Elroy Terry, 96, of Mansfield, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001. He was born on July 25, 1905 in Cummings Mill, PA, the eldest child of Samuel & Jessie Rundell Terry. A 1929 graduate of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Pittsburgh, he owned Terry’s Rexall Drugstore in Mansfield for over 40 years. He also raised and sold Christmas trees on several acreages in the area for many years. He served Mansfield Community as a 30 year member of the school board, filling the chair of president of the body for a few terms. He was on the water board of Mansfield, as well as the board of First United Methodist Church, where he held his membership. He was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Gertrude Hewitt, mother of their two sons. Mr. Terry is survived by his wife, Nina; his sister, Dorothy Spencer of Canton; his sons & daughter-in-law, Robert Terry of Dillsburg and James & Elizabeth Terry of Mechanicsburg; step-son and daughter-in-law, Edwin & Judy Bailey of Levittown, N.Y.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kathryn & Gerald Farrer of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Shirley Terry & his brother-in-law, Donald Spencer. Harold and Nina would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Aug. 11, 2001. Mr. Terry and his wife spent winters in Venice, FL, where he was a champion shuffleboard player. In recent years, he had earned two trophies. He was also on a bocce ball team in FL. Harold enjoyed traveling and had taken a vacation in Ireland at the age of 90. He was an avid reader and benevolent father and grandfather. A memorial service will be announced at a later date at First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. The family will provide the flowers. His pastor, Rev. Joyce Treas will officiate. John J. Zliceski
John J. Zliceski, 84, of 460 Williams St., died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001 at home. Born Jan. 1, 1917 in Mocanaqua, he was a son of John and Julia Plonski Zliceski. He worked as a chef for the former Lycoming Hotel and the former Wheel Club, here in the city. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre of War in the Third Army. He was the recipient of the Croix de Guerre with a Bronze Star, conferred by the French government. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1. Surviving are a brother, Joseph Zliceski of Clifton, N.J. and four sisters, Amelia Perkoski of Berwick, Jennie Harenza of Naticoke, Lottie Hizny of West Wyoming and Helen Vurchinkonis of Clifton, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 800 West Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Francis Pauselli officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse Funeral Home.
Rosemary Infantino Hamilton
Rosemary Infantino Hamilton, 46, of 2800 Faircroft Way, Monroe, NC, died Thursday, August 9, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews, NC. Born April 18, 1955 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Angelo and Mary LaCerra Infantino. She attended Color School for photo processing and was employed by P.C.A. Photo Processing Lab in Matthews, NC. She had been employed by Reighard Electric here in the city for 20 years prior to moving to North Carolina. She was a graduate of Bishop Neumann High School. Rosemary was a member of the Keystone Cruisers Car Club here in Williamsport and both the Town and Country and Carolina Cruisers Car Clubs in NC. She was a member of the American Garden Club in Charlotte, NC, the Loyalsock Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she was the recipient of the 25 year Order of the Rose Award, and the Charlotte, NC Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. An avid Nascar racing fan, she was a former member of the Williamsport Country Club. She loved country music and line dancing, and was a member of the Allen Jackson Fan Club. She was the former owner of the Lycoming Braided Fabrics, Inc., here in the city. She is survived by her dog, Shadow and lifelong friends, Yvonne & Gary Reighard of Williamsport; 2 brothers, Nicholas J. Melfi of Marysville & Anthony M. Melfi of Williamsport; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Merrill of Montoursville & Angela Louise Mitchell of Duncannon; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 635 Hepburn St., Williamsport, 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Msgr. Francis J. Castellano, officiating. Dorothy M. Frank, 76, formerly of Montoursville, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001 at the Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit where she resided. Her husband, Carl E. Frank, died in 1989. Dorothy retired as a nurses aide from the former Lysock View, Montoursville. Born July 19, 1925 in Brookville, PA, she was the daughter of John W. and Myrtle Allahouse Clontz. She is survived by a son, William Clontz of DuBois; a daughter, Elizabeth Flasher of McClure; a brother, William Clontz of DuBois; two sisters, Mildred Eckert of St. Mary’s and Gertrude Clyde of Philipsburg; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Eleanor M. Hill, 89, a guest at Manor Care South, formerly of 353 Bastian Ave., South Williamsport, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 at the manor. Born January 3, 1912 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Charles C. and Rosa Belle (Kennedy) Otto. She was a homemaker. Her husband, James B. Hill, died on June 19, 1977. Surviving are two sons, George B. of Cogan Station and James R. of Mill Hall; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be no public visitation. Dorothy E. Kulp, 86, resident of Jersey Shore ManorCare, passed away on Aug. 12, 2001. She was born May 20, 1915 in Salladasburg, Pa., the daughter of Elmer L. & Sara J. Riggle, also deceased. On March 26, 1932, she marriage Miles E. Kulp, also deceased. She is survived by 4 daughters, Rose A. Stark of Jersey Shore, Pa., Joyce E. Tawney of Princess Anne, Md., Loretta M. Cohick of Linden, Pa., Linda L. Kastner of Avis, Pa.; 2 brothers, Edwin H. Riggle of ManorCare, Jersey Shore and Elmer Leroy Riggle of Jersey Shore; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Charles E. Kulp and Miles E. Kulp Jr.; 3 brothers, Earl, Lewis and Chester; and 1 sister, Bertha. Dorothy was a member of the Church of God of Jersey Shore for app. 45 years. She worked at Weldon Mfg. Co. for 27 years as a presser and was a member of ManorCare for a little over 2 years. Friends may call at the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore from 7-9 tonight. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Theodore Van Schoick, officiating.
