Martha J. Simon, 85, of 102 Montgomery St., Montgomery, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Arrangements are being handled by Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., Muncy.
Edward L. Taylor

Edward (Ned) Leon Taylor, 88, a native of Williamsport, died Sept. 2, 2001 in the White Plains Hospital, White Plains, N.Y. A resident of Westchester County, N.Y. for 58 years, Mr. Taylor lived at 361 Old Mamaroneck Road, White Plains.
Born Dec. 15, 1912, he was a son of Edward L. and Bertha Pratt Taylor. Mr. Taylor’s first wife, Hannah Parker Taylor, preceded him in death in 1960. He is survived by his second wife, Frances Payson Taylor, White Plains.
Mr. Taylor graduated from Williamsport High School in 1930 and from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. with a B.A. degree in 1934. He had a long career with the International General Electric Company, retiring in 1964.
He was a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, International Executives Assn., and the Traffic Club of New York.
Mr. Taylor enjoyed sailing on Long Island Sound as a member of the Larchmont Yacht Club. His great passion was the family camp on Pine Creek where he spent his boyhood summers with his brothers, sisters and cousins. In spite of circling the globe several times, he loved returning to the area with his wife Fran to restore the old "Bluestone" house. He was keenly interested in the preservation of the Pine Creek Watershed and a supporter of the North Central Pennsylvania Conservancy.
Besides his wife, Mr. Taylor also is survived by his sister Jane Taylor of Williamsport; sons, John Parker Taylor of Allentown and Frank Pratt Taylor of Falmouth, MA; three stepdaughters, Norma Payson Barne of Sydney, Australia, Joyce Payson of Antiqua, Guatamala and Dale Payson of Clavarak, N.Y.; four grandchildren and a great grandson. He was predeceased by his brother John Pratt Taylor and two sisters, Ruth G Taylor and Mary Louise Taylor.
Private burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. B. Marie Eck

Mrs. B. Marie Eck, formerly of RR #1, Jersey Shore, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in the Fulmers Personal Care Home, Dunnstown.
Born Jan. 19, 1918 in Limestone Twp., she was a daughter of Guy F. Barner and the former Myrtle Epler. She was united in marriage to Reynolds H. Eck on Aug. 11, 1934. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1988.
Surviving are a son, Edward S. Eck of Jersey Shore; three daughters, Mary L. Dutton of Jersey Shore, Joan M. Willits of Linden and Nancy L. Novak of Lucas, Kansas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Karstetter of Jersey Shore and Margaret Reading of Jersey Shore; two brothers, William Barner and John Barner, both of Williamsport. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Barner.
Private family funeral services and burial in the Oval Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.
Madeline A. Bower

Madeline A. Bower, 82, 99 Lorson Road, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 at her residence.
Her husband Edward F. Bower preceded her in death in 1984. She was a homemaker.
She was a parishoner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mrs. Bower enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Born Dec. 7, 1918 in Oriole, she was a daughter of Walter and Clella LaPointe Keeler.
Surviving are two sons, John E. Bower, Bethlehem and James J. Bower, Montgomery; one daughter, Mary Jane Lorson, Williamsport; five brothers, Edsel Keeler, Lake Worth, Fla., Walter Keeler, Jersey Shore, John Keeler, Lock Haven, Charles Keeler, Port Orange, Fla., Kenneth Keeler, Salisbury, N.C.; one sister, Betty Keeler of Jersey Shore; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In celebration of Madeline’s life a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bastress, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with her pastor, Fr. Robert T. Busteed officiating. Final commendation and farewell will be held immediately following in the parish Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. If desired memorials may be sent to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home “A Life Celebration Home.”
Mr. Samuel R. Daugherty

Mr. Samuel R. Daugherty, 71, South Hart Road, Geneva, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Mr. Daugherty was a construction electrician. Born in Williamsport, he was a member of New Covenant United Church of Christ and a 1948 graduate of Williamsport High School. He had been a resident of Williamsport for 63 years and moved to Central Florida in 1993.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Sharry of Geneva; two sons, Samuel R. of Enola, Pa. and John K. of Vanceboro, N.C.; four daughters, Deborah S. Garner and Ida M. Tindall, both of Geneva, Fla., Dawn M. Jacobs of Orlando, Fla. and Julie K. WareHam of Mt. Joy, Pa.; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Florida on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001.

Rozella Pearl Edkin

On the morning of Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, the Lord called home Rozella Pearl Edkin of Cogan Station after a brief stay at Williamsport Hospital. She was 94 years of age.
Born in Shunk, Feb. 24, 1907, she was a daughter of Henry and Josie (Brown) Edkin. Rozella was a woman accustomed to hard work, beginning with her teen years. Throughout her life she toiled at various places of employment, including the former Rynveld Company of New Albany.
A diligent worker, Rozella was blessed with an energetic and ambitious spirit. Later in life, she worked as a nurse’s aid at several nursing homes in the Williamsport area. She resided for many years in Leroy until 1962, when she moved to Cogan Station.
Rozella was a strong, opinionated, “take charge” kind of person. Never one to mince words, she always spoke her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. She was a true lover of nature. For many years fishing was her passion, and she knew all of the best locations. Rozella also enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, as well as wild berry picking.
She was a firm believer in using the beauty of God’s creation, and could not tolerate waste of any kind. She religiously canned and preserved the produce of her garden each year, and was well known for her delicious pies.
Rozella was a member of the Fair Lawn Community Church and Heshbon Park Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by her grandson, Harold (Renee) Nichols of Big Pond; great grandsons Drew (Deborah) and Clinton (Caroline) Nichols; great-great grandchildren Deidre, Desiree, Caytlyn and Lucas Nichols; brother John W. Edkin of Forksville; sisters, Laura E. Edkin of Cogan Station, Mary E. Reese of Zionsville and Leola E. Castle of W. Burlington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter Esther Peet in 1969.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Inc., 40 N. Center St., Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Ogdensburg Cemetery.

Martha J. “Mart” Simon, 85, a resident of 102 Montgomery St., Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1916 in Greg Twp., Union Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary Ellen (Hagenbuch) Reaser, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose O. Simon, on January 19, 1990.
Martha was a 1935 graduate of the former Watsontown High School. She was a homemaker. A former member of the First Lutheran Church at Watsontown, she was a member of the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at Montgomery where she was a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class.
She was also a member of the Montgomery Senior Citizens, the United Commercial Travelers Ladies Auxiliary and the Montgomery Unit of the Muncy Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She attended monthly meetings with her high school classmates at Watsontown. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and her great-granddaughters.
She is survived by: 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy J. and Dennis Gruver and Joanne L. and Leslie Gruver, all of Montgomery; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, A. Gary and Susan Simon of Syracuse, NY and Wayne O. and Judith Simon of Loyalsock Twp.; 2 brothers, Charles E. Reaser, Jr. of Allenwood, and Ned L. Reaser, Milton; 5 sisters, Mildred E. Michael, Watsontown, Catherine M. Rake, Allenwood, Ruth Cotner, McEwensville, Hattie L. Fisher, Allenwood and Mary E. Katzmaier of Montoursville; 11 grandchildren, Jodi Gruver, Cheryl and Randy Neidig, Gregory Gruver, Steven and LeeAnn Gruver, Michael Gruver, Susan Marshall, Andrew Simon, Rebecca Simon, Chad Simon, William Wacek and Raymond Wacek; and 2 great-granddaughters, Korra Neidig and Kayla Gruver.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Franklin E. Reaser, Donald E. Reaser and Paul E. Reaser and a grandson, Scott D. Gruver.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church with Rev. Scott W. Baker, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main Street, Muncy and on Thursday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. The family will provide the flowers. Mr. Robert W. Vanemon Sr.

Mr. Robert W. Vanemon, Sr., of RR #4 Mifflinburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 in Knoxville, Tenn., from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born Dec. 23, 1958 in Jersey Shore, he was a son of Dale Willits and the former Barbara Frye. He was united in marriage to the former Joyce A. Wagner on Aug. 14, 1996. He was a member of the Hillside Bible Church of Mifflinburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joyce, are his mother of Linden and his father of Woolrich; two daughters, Bobbie Jo Vanemon and Cindy Lynn Vanemon, both of Williamsport; a son, Robert W. Vanemon, Jr. of Linden; two grandchildren; two step-daughters, Heidi J. Woolsey of Mifflinburg and Erica L. Good of Mifflinburg; two step-grandchildren; a sister, Brenda L. Winters of Jersey Shore; and one brother, Ronald E. Vanemon of Jersey Shore.

Dale I. Cogley, 61, Coudersport, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 in Coudersport. Surviving are his wife, Linda M. Grupp and two daughters, Karen Cogley, Coudersport and Chanin (Phillip) Cogley-Owens, Miramar, FL.

Cally Ann Foster, infant daughter of Thomas C. Foster Jr. and Leslie R. Yenner was stillborn Friday, September 7, 2001 in the Williamsport Hospital.
Surviving are her parents of Jersey Shore; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Jedrzejek and Thomas C. Foster, all of Lock Haven; paternal great-grandmother Daisy Orndorf of Lock Haven; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Garlyn N. Yenner of Avis and maternal great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Welsh of Jersey Shore.
Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Rest Haven Memorial Park. Rev. George Grossman will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.
Ralph E. Johnson

Ralph E. Johnson, 83, of 2005 Newberry St., died Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at home.
Born October 6, 1917 in Northumberland, he was a son of John F. and Mary E. Lewis Johnson.
He was a graduate of the Overbrook School of the Blind and the Williamsport High School. Mr. Johnson enjoyed fishing and was best known as the “Candy Man” at Valley View Nursing Home. He was a member and volunteer of the Blind Association as well as the Blind Association’s Bowling League. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the owner and operator of Johnson’s Caning and Rush Works.
Surviving are one son, Ralph W. of Hughesville; one daughter, Sandra M. Myers of South Williamsport; 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby H. and two brothers, Louis and Ira.
Friends may call at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. 3rd St., 10 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Halverstad-Cole, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
