Elizabeth G. Steward
(September 10, 1927 - August 27, 2015)

Elizabeth G. Steward, 87, a resident of Montgomery, PA, left this world on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born in Savannah, Hardin County, TN, on Saturday, September 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James Irvin and Vera Sylvia (Austin) Green.

Elizabeth was the wife of Charles W. "Bill" Steward with whom she celebrated a 69th wedding anniversary on August 3, 2015. She was a graduate of Northside High School at Jackson, TN. Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker and housewife.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Montgomery, PA where she was a former youth coordinator, Sunday school teacher and member of the Methodist Women's Fellowship. Elizabeth was a former Girl Scout troop leader, president of OUE (Organizations United for the Environment) and a founder of the community relations board for Allenwood Federal Corrections Facility. She had also volunteered for the community crisis helpline service, Help Yourself.

In addition to her husband she is survived by seven children, Judith Elizabeth and husband Robert Wertz, Middleburg, PA; Suzanne and husband Tom Hinkle, Harrison, TN; Charles "Toby" and wife Susan Steward, Cogan Station, PA; Daniel and wife Lori Steward, Lyman, SC; Deborah and husband Larry Stout, Montgomery, PA; Cynthia and husband Michael Morningstar, Lewisburg, PA; Clayton Steward, Meridian, MS; two siblings, Larry (Dot) Green, Jackson, TN; Doris Ann Landers, Jackson, TN. Elizabeth is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Irvin Green, Jr., her grandson, Michael Hinkle and a great-grandbaby, Michael Hinkle.

Her family will remember her as the most precious, loving, caring soul. She always thought of others first, considered all her acts of service a blessing and gave God all the glory. The world is a better place because of her. Her legacy will remain for generations.

A celebration of her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA at 12:00 Noon on Sunday, August 30, 2015 with Virginia Bailey, her pastor, officiating. All are welcome to attend. A time of fellowship will follow in the church social hall. The graveside committal service will be conducted in the Green Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA 17752. Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 40 E. Houston Ave., Montgomery, PA.

Christian Winter

Christian Winter died at the home of his son, John H. Winter, on Tuesday morning, January 29, aged 86 years.

Ronnie E. Fischer

Ronnie E. Fischer, 50, of Williamsport died Nov. 2, 2008 in Westmoreland, Jamaica.

Born in Williamsport on April 24, 1958, he was the son of the late William J. and Alice Brown Fischer.

He and the former Cathy L. Sherwood celebrated 15 years of marriage this past May.

Mr. Fischer was a supervisor at Spring Window Fashions for 31 yrs. He was on the Board of Directors and also worked part time for six years at Gesang Verin Harmonia. He was a member and president of the Keystone League.

Mr. Fischer was a member of the Republican Club, the Sons of Italy, as well as the Polish Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the 40 and 8. He was an avid Phildelphia Eagles football fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a step son Shawn M. Brown of Williamsport, brother Randy L. (Karen) Fischer and their children Jessica and Shelby Fischer of Cogan Station, a sister, Joyce Bower of Lamar, father-in-law Edward Sherwood of Hughesville and mother-in-law and step-father-in-law Jean and Bud Garvick of South Williamsport, brother-in-law Keith Sherwood and children Keith Jr. and Frances Sherwood of Hughesville, sister-in-law Sue (Kim) Smith of Muncy, sister-in-law Kelley (Lou) Mitchell and their son Luke of Hanover, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother Sharon Herschberger and Jay H. Terry.

Funeral services were held at Crouse Funeral Home, Williamsport, on Nov. 11, with the Rev. Larry Waltz officiating. Burial was in Twin Hills Memorial Park Muncy.

Mrs. S. E. Sprout

Mrs. S. E. Sprout, wife of Samuel Sprout, of this place, died on Tuesday morning, of injuries received when she fell on some ice several week ago. She was aged 77 years and leaves her husband and three children, Charlene E. Sprout, of Williamsport; Willis S. Sprout, of St. Marys; and Mrs. Anna Herbert, of Muncy. Also by three grandchildren.

Mrs. Caroline B. Lyon

Mrs. Caroline B. Lyon of Williamsport, died last Friday morning, after a brief illness, aged 86 years. She was the widow of Edward Lyon, and a daughter of the late David and Agnes Montgomery, of Paradise, Northumberland County, Pa.

Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Shirk

Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Shirk aged 84 years, widow of Abraham Shirk, a former resident of Lewisburg, died at the home of her daughter, Miss Anna Shirk, E. Water street, on Saturday evening; Mrs. Grace Deavor, widow of Dr. T. R. Deavor, of Syracuse, N.Y., died at her home on Saturday morning She was a sister of J. C. and C. W. Harter, of this place.

Janet M. Stroup
(November 22, 1940 - January 8, 2012)

Janet M. Stroup, 71, a resident of South Market Street, Muncy, PA, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in the Gatehouse at Williamsport, PA following a brief illness. Born in Franklin Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Friday, November 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Buss and Adda (Gordner) Diltz.

Janet was the wife of William B. Stroup with whom she celebrated a 39th wedding anniversary on July 20, 2011.

She was a 1958 graduate of Hughesville High School. Janet was employed by the former GTE Sylvania at Montoursville and was last employed by the former Atwood Fabrics at Muncy. Janet had also been employed as a home health aid. Her most enjoyable job of all was raising her family.

She was a member of the New Life Church at Pennsdale, PA. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and puzzles.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Sherry (George Lightcap) Stroup, Blackwood, NJ; Douglas (Karen) Stroup, Berwick, PA; Eric (Erica) Stroup, Picture, Rocks, PA; Richard Stroup, Muncy, PA; Randy Stroup, Muncy, PA; two sisters, Leona (Alan) Poust, Hughesville, PA; Dorothy (Carl) Fraley, Muncy, PA; five grandchildren, Chylee Stroup; Sara Stroup; Benjamin Stroup; Lauren Stroup and Timothy Stroup. She was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin O. Diltz.

A memorial service will be conducted from the New Life Church, 1006 Village Road, Pennsdale, PA at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 with Reverend Robert A. Lauver, her pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Donald Reynolds

Donald Reynolds, 69, of Watsontown, passed away Nov. 24, 2008 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born Feb. 14, 1939 in Muncy, he was the son of the late Russell and Mary Alice (Hazen) Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds retired from ACF Industries, Milton and had served in the National Guard earlier in his life. He enjoyed racing homing pigeons and hunting, especially raccoon and fox hunting.

He was member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodges.

Surviving are five daughters: Georgeanna Dymeck, Williamsport; Mary J. Killian, Delmar, DE; Brenda (Jack) Miller, Danville; Sally (Terry) Ryan, Watsontown and Joani L. Reynolds, Watsontown; two sons: Donald W. (Alberta) Reynolds, Watsontown; John L. Reynolds, Fort Benning, GA; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: June Taggart, Milton and Norma Jean Reynolds, Williamsport. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Reynolds, who died Oct. 24, 1990; and two brothers: William and Francis Reynolds.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home, Watsontown.

Delmar Eugene McCormick

Delmar Eugene McCormick, 79, of Allenwood, and formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Nov. 22, 2008 at his residence after being a 10-year survivor of lung cancer.

Born in Montgomery, on Sept. 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Gladys (Warner) McCormick. He and the former Marion R. Decker would have celebrated a 56th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27.

He was a 1947 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. He served in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army from 1949-1952. He was a veteran of the Army of Occupation and the Korean Conflict, and was stationed at headquarters in Tokyo, Japan for three years, serving under Generals Douglas MacArthur, Matthew Ridgeway and Mark Clark.

After returning from the service he graduated from the Williamsport Technical Institute where he trained to operate heavy equipment. He worked for the PA Dept. of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and at Edwards Lakes to Sea and Trailways Bus Company as a bus driver for 25 years. He retired from Northern Central Bank 1995.

Mr. McCormick was an athlete in football and basketball for Montgomery Clinton High School under Coach Michael Guido whom he admired. He continued to enjoy sports through out his life both as a spectator and a competitor. He loved to play recreational games and was a strong competitor and, although a gracious loser, often said “it’s more fun to win.”

He especially enjoyed the fun and friendship of the White Deer Retirees golf league and Dr. Callenberger’s Bocci ball league in Picture Rocks.

Mr. McCormick was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, where he had served as elder.

He had an infectious laugh that demonstrated how much he enjoyed life. He was an extremely hard worker and wonderful provider for his family. It gave him great pride to be able to send his children to college and to make their way in the world. He was always interested in their lives and provided solid advice on any issues that concerned them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Lynn and Paul Matrisian, Nashville, TN; Paula McCormick and Dennis Van Denbos, Lander, WY; Brett and Sharon McCormick, Conroe, TX; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Robert Pate, Rafeford, NC; Jean and Gerald Ranck, Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Neal Richard McCormick, William LaRue McCormick and Harold Robert McCormick, who died in infancy and by one sister, Naomi L. Shrey.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Grace Presbyterian Church, 105 Second Street, Montgomery, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, with Reverend Hobart G. Campbell, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1- 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Association for Cancer Research, at www.aacr.org, or to the charity of your choice.

Services have been entrusted to the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service.
