Ruth A. Anstadt

Ruth A. Anstadt, 88, formerly of 26 Green Street, Muncy, entered into the Lord’s presence on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009.

Born Dec. 24, 1920, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late William and Nora (Smith) Hill. Ruth was a graduate of Muncy High School. On May 9, 1941, she married Arthur L. Anstadt, who preceded her in death on May 13, 2002, after 61 years of marriage.

A devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Muncy, Ruth enjoyed Bible study both in and out of church. Her favorite pastimes included flower gardening, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known by all as a woman with a big heart.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, June E. and William B. Eck of Muncy and Janice M. and Mark E. Coleman of Hanover Park, IL; six grandchildren, William Eck, Jr. of Hughesville, Melissa (Charles) Ferringer and Vikki (Ernest) Burrows, all of Muncy, Bethany (Brian) Lievens of Delavan, WI, Lydia (Nick) Ng of Greenville, SC and Charis Coleman of Hanover Park, IL; 11 great-grandchildren, Melanie Stewart, Cory Charles, William Eck III, Charles Ferringer, Jr., Meeghan and Irelynn Ferringer, Dakota and Molly Burrows, Anna and Nora Lievens and Kody Ng; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main Street, Muncy. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, officiated by Pastor Charles E. Teffeteller.

Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, PA 17756.

Mildred I. Bartlow

Mildred I. Bartlow, 98, of 28 W. Water St., Muncy, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Born in Lairdsville on Dec. 21, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Amanda Catherine (Craig) Houseknecht.

On Nov. 18, 1939, she married Wilbur Abram Bartlow in Ashland. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage until his death on Nov. 14, 2005.

She was a 1930 graduate of Hughesville High School.

Mildred was a member of First United Methodist Church, Muncy.

Surviving are nieces and nephews and beloved neighbors, George and Helen Lundy.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Michael R. Gardy. Burial will follow in Lairdsville Cemetery.

Irene M. DeJesus

Irene M. DeJesus, 86, formerly of Bel Air, Maryland and recently of Muncy, died peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, where she had been a resident since January 2008.

Born Dec. 8, 1922, in Woburn, MA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alexandrina (Albino) Afonso.

Her husband of 49 years, Alfred DeJesus, preceded her in death on March 17, 1997.

Irene’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She loved baking, gardening and traveling with her senior groups. Irene previously attended First Friday events at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Bel Air, MD. She had a loving personality and gentle spirit that will always be cherished in her family’s and friends’ hearts.

She is survived by three children, David (Patricia) DeJesus of Alexandria, VA, Diane (William) Schneck of Muncy, and Elizabeth England of Muncy; six grandchildren, Troy (Melissa) DeJesus of Reston, VA, Tracy DeJesus of Arlington, VA, Kristen (Atul Bhandari) Schneck of Pittsburgh, Megan (Sean Breslin) Schneck of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Michael (Carly) Schneck of Williamsport and Katherine England of Bel Air, MD; one great-grandson; three brothers, Albert Afonso of Ludlow, MA, Joseph Afonso of Andrews, NC and William Afonso of Oldsmar, FL; and one sister, Alice Gajeswski of Ludlow, MA.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two brothers, Carlos and John Afonso.

Friends will be received on Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCreary of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.

Interment beside her husband will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, April 23, at 3 p.m.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, 215 E. Water St., Muncy, PA 17756 or the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

Louis J. Belisle, Jr.
(July 24, 1955 - December 2, 2011)
U.S. Veteran

Louis J. (Boe) Belisle, Jr., 56, a resident of Allenwood, PA, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Chico, Butte County, CA, on Sunday, July 24, 1955, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Helen (Kennedy) Belisle.

Boe was the husband of Bonnie L. (Koch) Belisle with whom he celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary on February 23, 2011.

He honorably served with the U.S. Army.

He was last employed as an operator by Shop Vac at Williamsport, PA.

Boe was a member of the Hughesville American Legion Post #51 and enjoyed woodworking and his Jeep.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Louis Jackson Belisle, III, Muncy, PA; Shane D. Belisle, Allenwood, PA; Brandy and Robbie Newcomer, Williamsport, PA; Cherish K. Belisle, Allenwood, PA; Brittney Belisle, Allenwood, PA; three sisters, Virginia Balensky, Sweden; Cheri Olive, Nevada; Kim Reyes, Florida; two brothers, Francis Fees, California; Steve Belisle, Florida; his faithful dog Ralph and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 with Rebecca Cuddeback, CLM, officiating. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans organizations. Friends and relatives are invited to the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. at Elimsport following the committal service.

Rita M. Murray

Rita M. (Ripp) Murray, 88, of Williamsport, and formerly of S. Market St., Muncy, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born May 25, 1920, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the youngest of nine children born to William and Catherine (Munchausen) Ripp. During the early days of World War II, she met Henry Max “Slugger” Murray, who was stationed there prior to being deployed overseas. Upon his return after the war ended, they married in New Orleans on Jan. 12, 1946 and later moved to Muncy, where they raised four daughters. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage until his death on Nov. 13, 1990.

Rita was fond of theater and performed in various local theater productions while living in New Orleans. She later became an accomplished homemaker and talented seamstress and hairdresser, and often volunteered her skills as a hairdresser to elderly friends and neighbors. Rita is best remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

A parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Muncy for more than 60 years, Rita joined upon her arrival in Muncy in 1946 (after the parish was established in 1941, but before the first church - a surplus army chapel - was dedicated in 1949).

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda M. and Dale Bonney of Mechanicsburg, Cassandra A. and Paul Schalcosky of Blairsville, Deborah K. and Joe Brown of Williamsport and Donna M. and Robert Ferrell of Muncy; eleven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one sister and seven brothers.

Family and friends will be received at her church, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Glenn McCreary. Interment will follow in Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of the Resurrection building fund, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, PA 17756.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
