Marion B. Kurtz

Marion B. Kurtz, 85, of Muncy, went peacefully to meet her Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. She was an inspiration of courage to others in her six-year battle with colon cancer and met every challenge that came her way with determination and dignity.

Born February 22, 1924, in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Ella (Nicholas) Batdorf. On June 5, 1942, following graduation from Milton High School, she married her high school sweetheart, James M. Kurtz, Jr. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before his passing on September 18, 1988.

Although Marion previously worked at the former Chef Boy-ar-dee and the former J. J. Newberry, as well as the Milton School District, her heart was at home. There she enjoyed laughing and telling stories to her grandchildren, and, more recently, watching her great-grandchildren grow. “Grandma” also loved baking and sharing her delicious sugar cookies.

Marion was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy. She was fond of traveling with her friends on bus trips and was a member of the Ramblers Club. She was also a member of the Milton Chapter 77 Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Patricia (Charles) Klobe of Milton, James (Twila) Kurtz of Watsontown, Debra (Marshal) Frye of Muncy and Fred (Cindy) Kurtz of Milton; twelve grandchildren, Steven (Jill) Klobe of Memphis, TN, Stephanie (Frank) Tobin of Ashland, Stacey (Wayne “Andy”) Andrews of Williamsport, Jamie Kurtz of Watsontown, Cassie (Larry) Miller of Allenwood, Jennifer (Michael) Freeborn, Dawn (Mark) Evans, Valerie (Thomas) Gordner and Matt (Nichole) Frye, all of Muncy, Heather (Dante) Osborne and Hayley (Corey) Hutchings, all of Baltimore, MD and Mandy (Shawn) Hartman of Milton; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one sister, Gloria Powell of Punta Gorda, FL and one sister-in-law, Susan Batdorf of Carlisle, and seven nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Batdorf.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 21, at her church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at noon. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Michael R. Gardy. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA 17756 or the Lycoming Unit American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or a charity of your choice.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Howard B. Chilson
March 25, 1944 - June 25, 2018
U.S. Veteran

Howard B. Chilson, 74, a resident of Montgomery, PA, entered into rest on Monday, June 25, 2018 in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born Saturday, March 25, 1944 at Sayre, Bradford Co., PA he was a son of the late Cecil and Pauline (Walters) Chilson. He and his wife, the former Deborah A. Ryan, would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on July 18th.

Howard was a 1963 graduate of Towanda Area High School. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany during the Viet Nam War. He retired from Jarrett's Lost Brook Farm after a career of almost 50 years as a dairy farmer.

Howard was a member of the French Asylum United Methodist Church at Durrell, PA. He was also a member of Muncy American Legion Post 268 and Satteson's Thursday Night Card Club. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Propst and companion John Propst of Allenwood, PA; Casey L. and husband John Craver of Montgomery, PA; two siblings, Duane and wife Joan Chilson of St. Edward, Nebraska; Virginia Pruyne of Ulster, PA; two grandchildren, Alicia M. Propst of White Deer, PA and Jacob Thomas of Montgomery, PA.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main Street, Muncy, PA with Max W. Furman, pastor of the Antes Forte and Oriole United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans organizations. The family will provide the flowers. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

LeRoy F. Karschner

LeRoy F. Karschner, 80, of 2430 E. Hills Drive, Williamsport, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Williamsport Home.

Born May 13, 1928, in Muncy, he was a son of the late George William and Jennie (Biddle) Karschner.

He and his wife of 29 years, the former Beverly Dawn Hofer, were married May 26, 1979.

LeRoy was a 1946 graduate of Muncy High School and attended the former Dickinson College for 2 ˝ years. He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War.

Through the years LeRoy was employed by Beiter’s, Lowry Electric and Weldon’s. He was last employed as a credit manager for S. Wolf & Co.

LeRoy was a former member of the Loyalsock Lions Club, where he earned the distinction of “Lion of the Year.” He was currently a member of the South Williamsport Lions Club, the Republican Club, the LeRoy O. Buck Post 7863 V.F.W., Duboistown and United Commercial Travelers. He was an avid card player and enjoyed western square dancing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Alice Karschner of Williamsport; one brother, the Rev. Lester J. Karschner of York; one sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Terry Sampsell of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dearly loved toy poodle, Tippy.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Ellen Hall, who died in 1969, and by two sons, Gary Franklin Karschner, who died in 1997, and Jeffrey Scott Karschner, who died in infancy in 1963.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 16. Officiating will be his brother, the Rev. Lester J. Karschner, retired Lutheran pastor.

Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery, where military honors will be bestowed by combined veteran’s organizations.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701 or the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

William R. Middlesworth, Sr.
November 30, 1939 - August 16, 2018

William R. Middlesworth, Sr., 78, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born Thursday, November 30, 1939 at Lewisburg, Union Co., PA, he was a son of the late Carson and Elsie (Wagner) Middlesworth. He was the husband of Donna (Bower) Middlesworth with whom he celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary on December 12, 2017.

Bill was a 1957 graduate of Milton High School. He retired in 2001 from American Home Foods at Milton where he was employed in the receiving department.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and earlier in life, golfing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, William R. Middlesworth, Jr. of Hughesville, PA; Barbara and husband Michael Matter of Carlisle, PA; one brother, Carson and wife Doris Middlesworth, Jr. of Milton, PA; three grandchildren, William R. Middlesworth III; Allison Matter and Logan Matter. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy M. Middlesworth; two brothers, Raymond Middlesworth; Robert Middlesworth and two sisters, Betty Shuman and Shirley Hans.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main Street, Muncy with Pastor Marie E. Lewis, a retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Friends may call on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park.

Irene M. Narber

Irene M. Narber, 85 of Muncy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital with her family by her side.

Born July 22, 1923, in Hillsgrove, she was the daughter and step-daughter of Ida and Burr Snell. Her husband of 57 years, Benjamin V. Narber, died Aug. 21, 1998.

Her favorite pastimes included fishing, baking, cooking, gardening, playing bingo and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Narber (with whom she lived) and Linda (Steve) Platt of Montoursville; one brother, Paul Norton of Mildred; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son, Royce V. Narber, who died in Aug. 2002.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Officiating will be Pastor Roosevelt Brown of First United Methodist Church, Montgomery.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon on Monday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
