Gregory B. Smith, 57, of 971 Showers Road, Muncy, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the Muncy Valley Hospital emergency room.
Born May 13, 1953 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Vernon Smith and Bonnie (Sanders) Smith, who survives. On March 18, 1983, he married Denise M. Wilson, with whom he observed 27 years of marriage this past year.
Greg attended Springfield High School in Montgomery County and worked as a mechanic for most of his career. He most recently was employed at Turkey Hill Markets in Turbotville for six years.
Greg’s favorite hobby was gardening. In addition, he very much enjoyed camping and traveling. Greg was also very fond of Golden Retrievers.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother of Half Moon Bay, California, are one brother, Ron (Charlaine) Smith of Evans, West Virgina; one sister, Linda (Norman) Forsberg of Trail, Oregon; and his mother-in-law, Ann Wilson of Muncy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be Pastor Max L. Walters, Jr., of Lairdsville Faith Church.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
Virginia L. Griggs
(December 19, 1951 - November 27, 2014)
Virginia L. Griggs, 62, a resident of Chesapeake, VA, formerly of Muncy, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 in the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center at Chesapeake, VA. Born in Columbia, SC, on Wednesday, December 19, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Donald Taber and Pauline (DeLeeuw) Taber of Longview, TX. The daughter of missionary parents, Virginia's childhood years were spent in the Philippines.
Virginia was employed as a registered nurse.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing.
In addition to her mother, Virginia is survived by two children, Heather and husband Gregory Gentry, Mechanicsville, VA; Jerry and wife Xylina Griggs, Norfolk, VA; one brother, Donald Taber, Jr., Beijing, China; three sisters, Cynthia Taber, Longview, TX; Sylvia Ramaly, Longview, TX; Patricia Griffin, Longview, TX; and by two granddaughters, Allison France and Breann France.
A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Muncy Cemetery.

Wayne "Mitch" R. Mitchell
Wayne “Mitch” R. Mitchell, 80, of 522 S. Market St., Muncy, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born January 13, 1931 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Wayne W. and Anna Mae (Pannebaker) Mitchell. He and his wife of 58 years, the former A. Marie Mellinger, were married February 3, 1953.
Wayne was a 1948 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War Marine Division 1st Recon, serving his country proudly and earning a purple heart.
Following his discharge, he attended Spring Garden Institute of Technology in Philadelphia. Wayne retired after 10 years as an engineer at the former Sprout Bauer, now Andritz. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer for 20 years at Prismo, now MB Company, in Montgomery.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy.
In addition to being a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, he was also a member of the Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy. Many times he could be found at the Keystone Sportsmen Association where he loved target shooting. Beyond his memberships, Wayne was an avid sports fan, especially devoted to Penn State.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-laws, Michael and Kathy Mitchell of Watsontown and Andrew and Linda Mitchell of Montoursville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jay Erlichman of Cranford, NJ; and five grandchildren, Peter, Jillian and Alyssa Mitchell, and Kenneth and Samantha Erlichman.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Michael R. Gardy. Burial with full military honors provided by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
Catherine L. Wertz
(June 29, 1924 - November 16, 2011)
Catherine L. Wertz, 87, of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Born in Gregg Twp., Union County, PA, on Sunday, June 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Howard H. and Elizabeth (Huff) Kahle.
She was the widow of Robert R. Wertz who preceded her in death on April 20, 2000.
Catherine was employed as a warper by the former Montgomery Mills and had also been employed at the former Bobbi Brooks at Montgomery.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church at Montgomery, PA. Cate enjoyed reading and word find puzzles.
Catherine is survived by one son, Terry L. Wertz, Montgomery, PA and one brother, Chester Kahle, South Williamsport, PA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Elmer Kahle, John Kahle, Charles Kahle and Fred Kahle and by three sisters, Estella Warren, Pearl Haines and Erma Gair.
Funeral services will be conducted from the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 with Reverend MarthaSue Moll, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the church. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Eleanor E. Waldman
Eleanor E. Waldman, 80, of Williamsport, passed away Nov. 24, 2008 at the Gatehouse.
Born Jan. 21, 1928 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Oris C. and Julia Ann Feeney McCloskey and was raised by her late grandmother, Sadie McCloskey.
A 1946 graduate of Williamsport High School, she attended Western Union School for two years.
She had been a bookkeeper for 44 years. She had worked at Lynn Hayes clothing store, the YWCA for 11 years and J. J. Electric until retiring in 2003.
Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and she was always involved in all their activities.
She was a fan of horse racing, NASCAR and baseball, especially the NY Mets.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed roller-skating and swimming.
She is survived by her sons, Carl A., Jr. of Muncy, David L. (Margaret) of Home, PA, Louis Terry (Denise), Stephen O. (Corinne), both of Williamsport; daughters, Kathryn A. Brown (James) Wehr of Montoursville and Gail E. (Michael) O’Brien of Williamsport; 16 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; her siblings, Kathryn Harer of Montoursville, Karl McCloskey of Muncy and June Morehart of Battle Creek, MI.
In addition to her parents and grandmother, she was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen Taylor, a twin brother, Joseph McCloskey, a sister, Jean Parks, two brothers, Oris McCloskey and Paul McCloskey, two grandsons, Michael and Jason Waldman, and one great grandson Mackensie Hoffman.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Life Celebration service, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., Williamsport, with Rev. Richard D. Waters officiating. A receiving of friends will be from 10 until 11 at the church. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Special Olympics of Lycoming Co., 2135 Reeder Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.
