Eunice Rose Chestnut, 77, of Muncy, died on Nov, 20, 2008.
Born in Laporte on April 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Curran) Hess.
She and her husband Floyd E., had celebrated 59 years of marriage on April 23, 1949.
She was a 1947 graduate of Sonestown High School.
Mrs. Chestnut was a lifelong member of the Church of the Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Muncy. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Woman’s Organization.
She worked as a secretary for many years at the former Modecraft plant in Muncy, but also managed the office and ran the switchboard. Later in life, she also worked for H & R Block, in Muncy, and also worked as a secretary for District Magistrate, C. Roger McRae, also in Muncy.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Dennis L. (Patti) Chestnut, of Muncy, two sisters; Mary A. Chestnut of Hughesville, and Kathryn “Kate” (Dale) Myers of Muncy Valley, three grandchildren; Cora Ann Basore, Cody Lee Chestnut, and Kara Rose Chestnut, and also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Clarence L. Chestnut, a sister-in-law, Linda Jane Chestnut, and a nephew, Daniel M. Myers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 25 at the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy, with her pastor, Rev. Glenn E. McCreary, celebrating the mass. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
Memorial contributions be made to the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy. McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Harold E. (Andy) Andrews
Harold E. (Andy) Andrews, 85, of Muncy, passed away on Nov. 19, 2008 in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Davidson Twp., Sullivan County, on Nov. 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Phillips) Andrews.
A 1942 graduate of Muncy High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He faithfully served his country for 21 years during the Second World War, the Korean Conflict and the VietNam War. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he served an additional nine years with the National Guard.
Mr. Andrew enjoyed watching western shows and movies and was an avid John Wayne fan.
He is survived by one son, Charles Andrews; two nieces, Dorothy M. LeVan, Muncy; Janet L. Digan, Muncy, and one nephew, David W. Neufer, Muncy.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Gottschall and Mildred Neufer.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, Muncy.
Donald E. Nickles
Donald E. Nickles, 74, of 322 Angletown Rd., Muncy, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 atDonald Kisner Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born June 26, 1937 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Scranton T. and Clara Mae (Martin) Nickles. On August 1, 1981, he married the former Linda L. Tubbs, who survives. Together they celebrated 30 years of marriage.
Donald was a veteran of the US Army Reserves. He was employed at the former Modecraft, Muncy for a short time before opening Nickles Upholstery Shop. In 1972 Donald closed his shop and went to work at Grumman Allied for 23 years. In 1995 he reopened his upholstery shop, retiring in 2010.
Donald attended the First United Methodist Church, Muncy.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, playing cards and the company of his five cats.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Effie Bufford, of Kearney, Mo and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Nickles in 1936 and Ervin Nickles in 1971.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17 at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the church pastor, Rev. Michael Gardy.
The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
Adam R. Anderson
(November 14, 1974 - December 25, 2011)
Adam R. Anderson, 37, a resident of Muncy, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011. Born in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA, on Thursday, November 14, 1974, he was the son of Robert C. Anderson and Carol A. Winter. He was the husband of Jennifer (Laird) Anderson.
Adam was a 1993 graduate of Montgomery High School. He was employed as a mechanic by Pic Brothers Auto Sales at Muncy, PA.
Adam enjoyed playing pool and was a member of a local pool league. He was also an avid car and four-wheeler buff.
In addition to his wife, Adam is survived by his father, Robert C. Anderson, of Cogan Station; his mother and father, Carol A. and Daniel Griffith of Allenwood, PA; two sons, Brian A. Anderson; Seth M. Anderson; four half-brothers, Robert A. (Bianca) Bebble, Williamsport, PA; Christopher T. Bebble, Cleveland, OH; Matthew W. (Amy) Griffith, Allenwood, PA; Andrew C. Griffith, Jersey Shore, PA; one step-brother, Craig A. Griffith, Williamsport, PA; his maternal grandmother, Marjorie A. Winter, S. Williamsport, PA; his mother and father-in-law, Carl and Martha Laird, Muncy, PA; three brothers-in-law, Kevin Laird, Muncy, PA; Corey (Heather) Laird; Shawn Laird, Muncy, PA; one sister-in-law, Karen (Scott) Henry, Muncy, PA. Adam is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Vanessa Griffith.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 30, 2011 with Reverend David Bixler, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church at Williamsport, PA, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Thursday from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Lester M. Neitz
Lester M. Neitz, 86, of 217 S. Market St., Muncy, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Manor Care North, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 1, 1925 in Chili, NY, he was a son of the late Cyrus and Rebecca (Gundrum) Neitz. On Dec. 24, 1945, he married the former Laura Riley, who survives.
Lester graduated from Muncy High School and also from a two-year commercial college in Williamsport. He served in the U.S. Army, both during World War II and the Korean War, and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. Lester was employed as a tool room coordinator at the former Sprout’s, now Andritz, in Muncy. For many years he also served as the Muncy boro tax assessor and as a crossing guard for the Muncy school district. He was a member of the Muncy Lodge #299, F & AM.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years are one daughter, Carol A. Neitz of Summerdale; one granddaughter, Christine (Strouse) Treadwell and husband Albert of Mechanicsburg; two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Treadwell; and two sisters, Dorothy (John) Mueller of Rochester, NY and Evelyn (Rev. Robert) Seibold of Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Cathleen Neitz, who died Feb. 19, 1989; and three brothers, Ken, Merlin and Harold Neitz.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Michael R. Gardy, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Muncy. Full military honors will be accorded immediately following the service. A private burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery on Friday.
