Edward L. Yordy (Ed.), 79, a resident of Eagles Mere, PA and The Villages, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Eagles Mere on Friday, July 31, 2015. Born Saturday, December 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Marye (Childs) Yordy.
Ed was the husband of Janet M. (Murdock) Yordy with whom he celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary on December 28, 2014.
He graduated from Bucknell University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and later received his Master's degree from Lehigh University in Civil Engineering. He was a co-founder of Chimney Consultants, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, a consulting firm, specializing in the design of concrete and steel reinforced chimneys for the global electrical power industry.
A member of Immanuel Baptist Church, The Villages, FL, he was actively involved in several men's Bible studies. Ed was a former member of the Eagles Mere-Laporte Lions Club, as well as several engineering societies. His favorite hobbies included fishing, traveling, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In 1947, Ed's baseball team had the distinction of playing in the first Little League World Series held in Williamsport, PA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Steven Yordy, MD and wife Judy, Milton, PA; Carolyn Yordy, Gibsonia, PA and Andrew Yordy, also of Gibsonia, PA; two sisters, Patricia Trego and Nancy Yordy; and four grandchildren, Richard Sahns, Jr.; Elizabeth Yordy; Adrienne Yordy and Steven Yordy II. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by an infant son, William.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Eagles Mere Community Church. Janice A. McCloskey
(October 30, 1937 - September 26, 2015)
Janice A. McCloskey, 77, a resident of Lewisburg, PA, formerly of Muncy Valley and Towanda, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her residence. Born in Towanda, Bradford County, PA, on Saturday, October 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Welles and Hope (VanBarriger) Hitchcock.
She was the widow of Robert McCloskey who preceded her in death on August 5, 2003.
Janice was a 1955 graduate of Towanda High School. She had previously been employed by the former Gee Bees at the Lycoming Mall.
Janice was a member of the Milton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was very musically talented and enjoyed playing the organ, piano and singing. She enjoyed gardening.
Janice is survived by four children, William Fowler, Taylor, PA; David and wife Janice Fowler, Alabama; Rebecca and husband Dwight Shoemaker, Hughesville, PA; Janine Fowler and companion Carey Nelson, Bartlesville, OK; two sisters, Barbara and husband David Rinebold, Sayre, PA; Lila and husband William Maughan, Sayre, PA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, Janice was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Fowler, and her brother, Frederick Hitchcock.
A memorial service will be conducted from the Milton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2995 Housels Run Road, Milton, PA at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 with Elder Jacob Healy officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, PA.
Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA.
Georgine R. Watson
(August 3, 1916 - January 8, 2012)
Georgine R. Watson, 95, of Watson Road, Turbotville, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 at her home where she lived with her two granddaughters, Jodi and Carol Watson.
Born August 3, 1916 in Muncy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Elmer and Ethel Faye (Millheim) Lyons. On June 9, 1934 she married Myron C. “Mike” Watson and they celebrated 49 years of marriage until his death August 20, 1983.
Georgine was a member of the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, gardening, canning, working on the family farm, her time with the women’s church group and spending time with her family and friends. Her keen sense of humor and the love for her family kept her going through out her years.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Mae Watson and Myron F. “Mike” Watson all of Turbotville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Doloris E. and Donald Metzger of Muncy; Edna F. Keister of Penns Creek; Barbara A. Royer of Turbotville; a sister, Audrey Martin of Muncy; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Georgine was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, grandchildren, Thad Sawyer and Nancy Landis and a great grandson, Josh Biddle.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville and from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 Route 44 Turbotville where the funeral service will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. Dan May officiating. Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery. The family suggest contributions in her memory be made to her church, P.O. Box 6, Turbotville, PA 17772.
Frances Anna (Gold) Kirkner
(August 2, 1934 - January 4, 2012)
Frances G. Kirkner, 77, of Comly Road, Turbotville, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at her home.
Born August 2, 1934 in Muncy Valley Hospital, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Margaret Priestly (Russell) Gold. She was a very proud direct descendant of Joseph Priestly, Theologian and Scientist.
On February 6, 1965 she married Harold E. Kirkner and they celebrated 20 years of marriage until his death April 17, 1985.
Frances was a 1952 graduate of the former North-Mont High School, Turbotville and had taken business courses at Thompson College, Harrisburg and practical nursing courses.
Earlier in life she had worked at Philco/Ford Corp., Watsontown, the Devitt Home, and retired from Muncy Valley Hospital where she had been a nursing assistant for several years. She was also a local news reporter for the Danville News.
She was a life-long member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Turbotville where she served on the church consistory, sang in the choir, and played the piano and organ. She was a sister in The Order of Corpus Christi.
She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and Mount Pleasant Grange.
Surviving are her brother and his wife, the Rev. James H. and Eleanor P. Gold of Mifflinburg; two nephews, Stephen W. and Lori Gold, Akron, Pa.; Philip H. Gold and his companion, Alexandra of Enola; a niece, Elizabeth “Betsy” and Tom Clark, Mechanicsburg; and a companion for many years, Jeffrey L. Kuntz.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville and also from 10 to 11 AM Monday at Trinity United Church of Christ, Turbotville where the funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Monday with the Rev. James H. Gold, her brother, and the Right Rev. Ronald C. Grubb, Coadjutor Abbot of The Order of Corpus Christi, co-officiating.
Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.
Richard L. Snyder, Jr.
(February 13, 1953 - January 4, 2012)
Richard L. Snyder, Jr., 58, of the White Deer Pike, White Deer, Beloved Father and Grandfather passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born February 13, 1953 in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Juanita Smith Snyder.
Richard worked as a Construction Inspector for Larson Design Group, Williamsport. In his spare time he enjoyed his Mustang, golfing, WWII airplanes and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya R. and Tyrone Allen of Lancaster; a granddaughter Kenya Rose Allen, a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Tom Heckert of White Deer, nieces and grand pups, Omen and Sturgis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Watsontown. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to the Kenya R. Allen Fund, Sovereign Bank, 109 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777.
