Ralph H. Chapman Jr., 58, of R.R. 3, Canton, died Oct. 29, 2002, at his residence. Born in Williamsport on Aug. 21, 1944, he was the son of Ralph H. and Sarah Henry Chapman Sr.
Mr. Chapman was a self-employed logger. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and horseshoes, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and family.
Surviving besides his father of Troy and his mother of Williamsport are three sons, Ralph H. III, John W., and Russell I., all of Canton; two daughters, Penny Ann (Sam) Palmer and Geraldine (Pumpkin) Chapman, both of Canton; three brothers, Steve (Debbie), with whom he resided, Thomas (Ginger) of Troy and Jack of Williamsport; three sisters, Sandra Walters of Jersey Shore, Debbie DelJonavon of Williamsport and Edna Lucas of Linden; three stepchildren, Terina Marconi of Lock Haven, Patsy Van Dyke of Bloomsburg and Jerry Vittoro of Canton; six grandchildren, Christi, Angel, Ricky, Thomas, Samantha and Hunter; six stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two very special nephews, Gary Bodle and Frank Walter II; and one special brother-in-law, Donald Getz Sr.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John and James, and one sister, Barbara Chapman.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Burial will be in Barbours Cemetery, Plunketts Creek Twp. Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ronald Colton
Ronald Colton, 82, of Alba, Pa., died Oct. 30, 2002, at the Troy Community Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly, of 52 years; two daughters, Bernita and Shirley; two sons, Ronald and Randle; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pepper Funeral Home, Canton. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alba First Christian Church. Visitation will also be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

Sandra (Lamberson) Doane
Sandra (Lamberson) Doane, age 63, of Monroe, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg.
Susan Marie Delaney
Susan Marie Delaney, 68, of 2201 Lincoln St., died Oct. 29, 2002, at her home. Born Nov. 9, 1933, in Renovo, Pa., she was a daughter to the late George E. and Wilimina Ohlander Toot. She was raised by the late Norman and Nelda Haupt.
She was a homemaker, a Methodist by faith, and she loved music, especially playing her organ.
Surviving are her companion, Carl Reustle Jr. of Williamsport; one son, Norman A. Delaney of Renovo; five sisters, Wilimina (Robert) Putman of Renovo, L. Jane Umstead of Williamsport, Georgania (J. Rusty) Payne of Renovo, Noele Haupt of Renovo, and Pamela Haupt of Buffalo, N.Y.; two brothers, Walter E. (Mary Kay) Toot of Renovo and Ralph W. Toot of Buffalo, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Nov. 1, at the First United Methodist Church, Renovo, with Rev. John Godissart officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Bend United Methodist Church.

Thelma M. Derr
Thelma M. Derr, 78, of 221 Chestnut St., Montoursville, died Oct. 29, 2002, at her residence. Born Aug. 1, 1924 in Turbotville, she was the daughter of Samuel C. and Helen M. Snyder Murray.
She and her husband, Robert, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 12.
Mrs. Derr retired from Koppers Inc. in Montoursville. Prior to working for Koppers, she worked for Lycoming Silicia Sand. In addition, Thelma worked for the late Russell Heim, CPA. During WWII she was employed by the War Production Board in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church..
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Dennis W. (Diane) of Danville; a daughter, Sandra L. Derr (William Osgood) of Reston, Va.; a brother, Lester L. Murray of Montoursville; a sister, Grace McCabe of Montoursville; three grandchildren, Karen Hoyes and Sarah and Joshua Derr; and a great-grandchild, Marissa Hoyes. She has enjoyed the loving support of countless friends. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Cleon, Francis and James.
There will be a memorial graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday at Watsontown Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 700 Fairview Drive, Montoursville, with her pastor, the Rev. Paul C. Murphy, officiating. There will be no visitation.

Thelma M. Painter
Thelma M. Painter, 77, formerly of Muncy and currently of Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville, died Oct. 29, 2002, at her residence. Born in Watsontown on Dec. 30, 1924, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary S. Raup Bieber.
Thelma was the widow of Howard S. Painter, who died in June 1995.
She was retired from the former GTE Sylvania in Montoursville and was a member of Pennsdale United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Robert Keebler of O’Lake Okeechobee, Fla.; four brothers, Harry A. of Turbotville, Maurice of Trout Run and Howard of Orangeville; a sister, Catherine Force of Northumberland; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Ralph Hibbs, officiating. Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Clifford C. Conner
Clifford C. Conner, 89, of 580 Route 405, Hughesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born in Beckley, W. Va. on March 25, 1913, the son of Charles and Ethel Hall Conner.
He was employed at City Auto Stamping Company of Toledo, Ohio, and had also worked for the railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Church of the Resurrection in Muncy.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary M. Taran; a brother, Paul Conner of Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Keaton of Mich.; a sister-in-law, Ann Hummel of Hughesville; a niece, Harriet Poechmann of Cogan Station; and two grandnephews, Lee and Barry Poechmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Church of the Resurrection, 526 S. Main St., Muncy, Thursday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Glenn McCreary officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Fairfield Township, with military honors. There will be no public visitation.

Mary Louise Merrick
Mary Louise Merrick, age 83, of 770 Poplar Church Road, Camp Hill, Pa., formerly of Williamsport, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at West Shore Health Facility, Camp Hill. She was born Dec. 29, 1918 in Williamsport, the daughter of Frederick and Anna Hurley Seewald.
She was a homemaker, enjoyed polka music, and was devoted to her family and husband. She marriage William E. Merrick Jan. 10, 1946. He preceded her in death July 4, 1990.
Mary is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Richard Shaffer of Camp Hill, Pa.; grandchildren, Andrew and Molly Shaffer; and sister, Ella Clemens of Texas. She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by brothers Charles, Jack, Edgar and “Buddy”; and sisters Florence Cochran and “Sis” Ritchey.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the James Maneval Funeral Home, “a Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in GreenLawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, Pa.
