Frank Earl Weise Jr., 83, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 at Palm Garden of Vero Beach after a prolonged illness.
He was born June 25, 1919 in Bridgeville, Pa., and moved to Vero Beach four years ago from Bellair, Fla.
Mr. Weise graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. His business career spanned almost 50 years in the engineering and steel industry. From 1941 to 1943 he was with Bethlehem Steel Co., Williamsport, Pa. Then from 1949 to 1963, Mr. Weise was Vice President of Operations for Detroit Steel Corp., Portsmouth, Ohio; and from 1963 to 1969, he was Vice President of Engineering and Construction for Koppers Co., Pittsburgh, Pa. From 1969 to 1988, Mr. Weise was with Florida Steel, Tampa, Fla., where he remained until his retirement in 1988 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was a Director of Florida Steel Corp., Ameritrust and Bricmont and Associates.
Mr. Weise was a member of Phi Delta Theta, past president of the Portsmouth Jaycees and past Vice President of the Ohio Jaycees. He was both a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, past Illustrious Master and Priest of the York Rite. Mr. Weise spent many years as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts. He was also active in the United Way, Kiwanis and Rotary. He was a member of the Belleview Biltmore Country Club, Belleair, Fla., a member of the Innsbrooke Resort and Golf Club and the Oak Harbor Club, Vero Beach.
Mr. Weise was a member of the Community Church-United Church of Christ, Vero Beach, Fla.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marian Hagerman Weise of Vero Beach, Fla.; a son, Frank E. Weise III of Vero Beach, Fla. and Haverford, Pa.; daughters, Pamela Weise Hinds of Washington, D.C. and Kathryn Weise Mason of Edmonds, Wash.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial contribution will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at Sommerset House in Oak Harbor, Vero Beach, Fla.
Friends may make contributions to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960 in memory of Mr. Weise.

Helen Miller
Helen Miller, 86, of Leesburg, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002. Born in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Valentine Vogel.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker.
She resided in Liberty, Pa., and Hawaii, and moved to Leesburg in 1972.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Francis S. Miller of Leesburg; sons Ronald C. Miller of Virginia Beach, Va., and Keith F. Miller of Leesburg; brothers Howard Vogel of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Raymond Vogel of South Williamsport; and sisters Rita Manning and Anna Hagerman, both of Virginia Beach, Va.
She was preceded in death by brothers Carl and Harry Vogel.
Carrie G. Reader
Carrie G. Reader, 95, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Rose View Center.
She retired in 1967 as a bookkeeper at the Williamsport Hospital and was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Born Dec. 16, 1906 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Edward B. and Mary C. Gettinger Reader.
Her brother, Daniel, died in 1989.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be in the Greemount Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Harry F. Bachman Sr.
Harry F. Bachman Sr., 74, a resident of Dewart, Pa., passed away at 5:18 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in the Kramm Nursing Home at Watsontown, Pa. Born in Watsontown, Northumberland County, Pa. on Monday, July 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Boyd R. and Anna Elizabeth (Ravert) Bachman.
He was the widower of Betty E. (Charles) Bachman, who preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2001. Harry was a 1946 graduate of the former Watsontown High School. He served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army.
Harry was formerly employed in the finishing department of the former Zenith Corp., Watsontown, Pa. He retired from the former Anton-Waldman at Hughesville, Pa., in 1993.
He attended the Christ Wesleyan Church at Milton, Pa. Harry enjoyed attending his high school reunions, yard sales and collecting model cars and old watches.
He is survived by two daughters, and one son-in-law, Cindie C. and William Staggert of Allenwood, Pa. and Kathy L. Campbell of Muncy, Pa.; one son and daughter-in-law, Harry F. and Rebecca Bachman II of Watsontown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Amanda Campbell, Melissa, Michelle, and Melinda Bachman; three brothers, Merrill Bachman of Watsontown, Pa., Boyd J. Bachman of Dewart, Pa., Lawrence Bachman of Watsontown, Pa.; and one sister, Thelma Rathfon of Mifflinburg, Pa. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sheatler and Dorothy Bachman; and one brother, Arthur Bachman.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main St., Muncy at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 with Rev. David Wilcox and Pastor Ken Paulhamus, of the Christ Wesleyan Church at Milton, officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wolf Twp., Lycoming County, Pa. Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Helen Jeanette Hottenstein
Helen Jeanette Hottenstein, world-renowned nurse, of Forksville, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Overton, on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at 11 a.m.
Funeral services are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa.

Herbert J. Kocher
Herbert J. Kocher, 79, of 1851 Frederick Ave., died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at his home. He and his wife, the former Phyllis C. Nixon, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26, 2001.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a 1941 graduate of Williamsport High School, a 1950 graduate of Lycoming College and he did a year of graduate work at Bucknell University.
He was a professional photographer for over 40 years. Both he and his wife owned and operated the former Kocher Photo Service.
Born on Aug. 13, 1923, in Williamsport, he was a son of Floyd and Carrie Schoonover Kocher.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Thomas A. (Kathy) of Williamsport and Gregory J. (Vicki) of Pleasantville, N.C.; granddaughters, Kristin, Kelley, Amber, and Melissa; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Rev. Dr. Wayne L. Hepler, pastor of Quiggleville United Methodist Church, officiating. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers.

Madelyn E. Carlton
Madelyn E. Carlton, 81, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002. Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Bastress Twp., she was a daughter to Frank and Anna M. Frederick Engle.
She was retired from Carey-McFalls in Montgomery and was a lifelong member of Church of the Annunciation.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Ann Petros of Montoursville and Loretta M. Kriner of South Williamsport; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Carlton, who died Aug. 30, 1978; two sons, Donald and Henry Carlton; a daughter, Madelyn Yoder; one brother; and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church, 702 West Fourth St., with her pastor, Rev. John K. Manno, officiating. Friends may call at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St. from 8:30 to 9:30 Wednesday morning. Interment will be in Mount Carmel of Wildwood Cemetery.
