Mrs. Marie E. Kast, 76, of 214 Oliver St., Jersey Shore, died Friday, February 1, 2002 in the Manor Care Health Center in Jersey Shore.
Born October 10, 1925 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Stanley Gaugler and the former Irene Tietbohl. She is survived by her husband, William E. Kast. They were united in marriage February 12, 1954 in South Williamsport. For many years, she was employed by the Jersey Shore Hospital until she retired in 1995.
She was a member of the Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church and graduated from the Williamsport School of Commerce and the South Williamsport High School.
Also surviving are 3 sons, William S. Kast of Cogan Station, Ricky L. Kast of Corlandt Manor, N.Y. and Scott J. Kast of Wormleysburg; 4 daughters, Betty M. Hendel of Breinigsville, JoAnn M. Bigler of Jersey Shore, Karen L. Pukszyn of Allentown, and Tracy L. Sweeney of Bethlehem; 3 grandchildren; and 1 sister, I. Mae Hampton of South Williamsport.
Graveside memorial services will be Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Jersey Shore Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Woodruff, officiating. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.

Charlotte Wert Long
Charlotte Wert Long, 68, Lock Haven, died Feb. 1, 2002 at the Lock Haven Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Born July 8, 1933, she was a daughter of Paul and Charlotte Hendrick Wert. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Long. Surviving are 1 son, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 brother & 1 sister. Friends may call at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. L. Wesley Myers
L. Wesley "Wes" Myers, 74, of Walnut Street, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Williamsport Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1927 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Rudolph and Hilda Butler Myers. He was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School class of 1947 and a former member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He retired from C.A. Reed, Inc. and prior to that to Brosman’s Dept. Store.
He was also a former professional basketball player for the Williamsport Billies. He was inducted into the Bethune Douglas Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. A veteran of the US Army, he was stationed in Fort Knox, Ky.
Surviving are two brothers, William K. of city and Paul P. of New Brunswick. N.J.; a sister, Rachel A. Pitts-Womack of Steelton; three nephews, four nieces and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at the Wildwood Cemetery.
Thorp T. Beachel
Thorp T. Beachel, 82, of Laidacker Rd, Milton, died Sun., Feb. 3, 2002. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Anna (DeWalt) Beachel, two daughters, a son, 11 grandchildren, a sister and two brothers.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Fri. Feb. 8 at Brooks Funeral Home, Turbotville. Burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be Thurs. from 6-9 p.m.
Martha M. Benjamin
Martha M. Benjamin, 91, of 259 Benjamin Road, Warrensville, died Saturday, February, 2, 2002 at Valley View Nursing Center. Born October 31, 1910 in Gerhausen, Germany, she was the daughter of Gustav and Maria Katzmaier Manz.
Martha retired as a cook for the former Lysock View.
The widow of Joel H. Benjamin who died December 22, 1965, she is survived by three daughters; Esther M. Hopewell of Rose Valley, Joye M. Hampton of Williamsport, and Paulette M. Case of Akron, PA; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 11 a.m at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with Rev. Connie A. Waugh of Heilman U.M.C. officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.

Arnold E. “Bud” Brill, age 74 of 43 Skyline Drive, Wellsboro, PA. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Wellsboro, PA.

Paul R. Hosler Sr.
Paul R. Hosler, Sr, 77, died on Sun. Feb. 3 at Brookline Manor & Retirement Village, Mifflintown. He is survived by his wife Beatrice (Mader) Hosler; 7 children; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wed. Feb. 6 at McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St. Visitation 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Deborah J. Mitcheltree
Deborah J. Mitcheltree, 55, of Waterville, died Saturday, February 2, 2002 in the Jersey Shore Hospital. She was the wife of James T. Mitcheltree, whom she marriage Nov. 28, 1970.
Born Jan. 15, 1947, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Glenn and Mary Kelchner Markel.
Debbie was 1964 graduate of Williamsport High School and a member of New Covenant Full Gospel Church. She had owned Deb-O-Nair Electrolysis and for the last 15 years served as a secretary and payroll clerk for Markle’s Plumbing and Heating.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her parents of Williamsport; a daughter, Tracie R. LaBarre and a son, Raymond A Mitcheltree, both of Williamsport, three sisters Sharon Gonzalez of Baltimore, MD, Helen Smith of Montoursville, and Kimberly Stites of Philadelphia; a brother, Glenn L. Markle of South Williamsport; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport, with the Rev. Gary L. Smith, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at Sanders’ from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorials be made to her church, P.O. Helen L. Schaefer
Helen L. Schaefer, 88, of 1201 Rural Avenue, died Sunday, February 3, 2002 in RoseView Center. She was the widow of J. Gordon Schaefer, who died July 15, 1990. Born June 5, 1913, she attended Williamsport Schools and was a former employee of the Antlers Club.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Surviving are two sons, William G. of Chambersburg and James E. of city; two daughters, Kathryn L. Schaefer and Margaret A. Hannigan, both of city; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Trinity Church, 844 West Fourth Street, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Andrew M. France, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will provide flowers and suggests memorials to the Endowment Fund of her church.

Frank M. Kiess
Frank M. Kiess, 88, of Dartmouth, MA, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, after a long illness. He was the widower of Jane B. Jenkins Kiess.
Born in Williamsport, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Verus Kiess, he had lived in Dartmouth since May of 1999, having moved there with Jane to be closer to his family.
Mr. Kiess was a branch manager for Industrial Products of the Anheuser-Busch Company. He was past president of the Loyalsock Men’s Club and served on the planning commission. He deeply loved the Loyalsock and greater Williamsport areas and never considered living elsewhere until 1999. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Robert Kiess of Dartmouth, MA; daughter-in-law, Doris Kiess; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his brother, Donald Kiess of Selinsgrove.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
