Barbara Ulmer Hawk, 58, of this city died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Manor Care South. A 1961 graduate of Montoursville High School, she was a secretary for the Montoursville Borough office throughout the 1970s. She was a member of the Pine Street United Methodist Church and sang in its Cornerstone and chancel choirs. Born Feb. 13, 1942, in this city, she was a daughter of Howard and Catherine E. Murphy Ulmer. Surviving is her mother of Montoursville; two daughters, Luanne Hawk in Florida and Krista Hawk in New York; and a brother, Thomas Ulmer of Montoursville. A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Montoursville Cemetery, with her pastor, the Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs, officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
Virginia L. Kline
Virginia L. Kline, 40, of 918 Dutchtown Road, Muncy, and formerly of Hughesville, died Tuesday, June 6, at Manor Care. She was a 1979 graduate of Hughesville High School. She was a member of Moreland Baptist Church. She enjoyed country music. Born December 16, 1959, in this city, she was a daughter of Clifford D. and Elvina I. Reeder Kline. Surviving, besides her mother, are two brothers; Gary A. Kline of this city, and Calvin E. Markle of Hughesville; and a sister, Danette Sones of Muncy. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, in the church, 118 Moreland Baptist Road, Muncy, with the Rev. Carl G. Harris, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran (Brick) Cemetery in Montgomery. Dorothy E. M. McMichael
BLOOMSBURG - Dorothy E. Moon McMichael, 87, of 45 E. Eleventh St. and a Lycoming County native, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where she had been a medical patient for two weeks. She was employed by Magee Carpet Co., retiring in 1975 and previously employed by Milco Industries, both at Bloomsburg. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Born Dec. 18, 1912, in Limestone Township, she was a daughter of Elmer and Margaret M. White Smith. Surviving are two daughters, Jean M. Hunt of Orangeville and Helen M. Haines of Benton; a sister, Hazel Ball of Millville; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grant T. Moon, and her second husband, Max W. McMichael; three brothers, Oscar, albert and Donald Smith. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Montoursville Cemetery, with the Rev. Nancy D. Firestone, her pastor, officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Kriner’s, 325 Market St.
Mary R. Samet
Mary R. Samet, 79, of Almond St. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Long Island, N.Y. She and her husband, Joseph J. Samet, observed their 58th wedding anniversary Dec. 6. She worked as an OB Technician at the medical center and for 25 years at Divine Providence Hospital, where she had received the employee of the year and the employee of the month award several times. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. Mrs. Samet enjoyed crocheting. Born Oct. 6, 1920, in Quincy, Mass., she was a daughter of Harold and Ruth Brett Nightingale. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Joseph J. Jr. of Dunkensville, Texas, and John P. of Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary T. Schulz of St. Pete Beach, Fla., and Kathleen P. Lai of New Hyde Park, Long Island; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church, 702 W. Fourth St. Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y. The family will provide the flowers. Paul P. Chrapek
Paul P. Chrapek, 91, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the Williamsport Home. His wife, the former Mary V. Chopick, died March 28, 1994. He was a retired tanner for Armour Leather Co. Born July 6, 1908, in this city, he was a son of Joseph and Amelia Kyska Chrapek. Surviving are two sons, Paul R. of Muncy and Jerald J. of this city; a sister, Amelia Smith of this city; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Rev. Charles Justus Cockriell
MILTON - The Rev. Charles Justus Cockriell, 48, of 146 1/2 Center St. died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he recently underwent heart surgery. He was a bank teller at Mifflinburg Bank and Trust. He had been pastor of Saxton-Coalmont and Summit Hill United Methodist charges. He had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 512 and continued serving the troop as an assistant scout master. He was a member of Lodge 370, F&AM, Mifflinburg; the Scottish Rite; Knights Templar; Valler Champ Council 25, Sunbury; and Sons of the Legion, Kratzer-Dull Post 182, American Legion, Lewisburg. He was a member and worthy high priest of Milton Royal Arch Chapter 298. A 1969 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in religion/theology from Lycoming College in 1989 and master’s degree in divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1992. Born Nov. 26, 1951, in Bloomington, Ill., he was a son of Justus and Iva Krouse Cockriell. Surviving, are his mother of Lewisburg RR 2; an aunt, Erma K. Walters of Kreamer; and several cousins. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mazeppa United Methodist Church, Lewisburg RR 2, with the Revs. Ned L. Knisely, pastor of Hillside Bible Church, Mifflinburg RR 2; Joseph H. Lingenfelter, pastor of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Sunbury, and Daniel H. Hicks, pastor of Buffalo Valley Charge, officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Union Cemetery, Buffalo Township. Clarabel Decker
Clarabel Decker, 77, of 300 Leader Drive, formerly of 505 Center St., died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Manor Care North. She was a private duty nurse for many local residents. Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Arthur G. and Lora Kulp Decker. She was reared by an aunt, Mary Elizabeth Ryan. There are no immediate survivors. A graveside service will be announced. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
Gwendolyn L. Edwards
CANTON - Gwendolyn L. “Jane” Edwards, 75, of Cedar Ridge Apartments, formerly of East Second Street, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Her husband, George Edwards, died Nov. 27, 1987. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Canton Lodge 981. She enjoyed country music and was a member of the Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson fan clubs. She enjoyed sports, attending her grandchildren’s games and was known as the “unofficial-official score keeper.” She was a member of Canton Church of Christ Disciples. Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of Lester and Eva Boyer Reed. Surviving are four daughters, Sharon Alexander and Shelley Holmes, both of Canton, Sheila Fitch of Alba and Georgia “Peachie” Edwards of Leroy; two sisters, Edie Vermilya and Betty Reed, both of Canton; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, with the Rev. David B. Morris, officiating. Burvena A. Huff, 80, of New Columbia RR 1, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at home. Her husband, John R. Huff, died in September 1998. She had worked for the Lycoming Hotel for 20 years and American Rescue Workers for 10 years. She was a member of God’s Missionary Church, New Columbia RR 1. Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Limestone Township, Montour County, she was a daughter of Trever H. and Arta Lillian Smith Digan. Surviving are two daughters, Frances June Tressler of South Williamsport and Caroline Hall of Huntersville; five brothers, Treve, Kay, Alvin, Erwin and Wayne Digan, no addresses given; two sisters, Ernova Smith of Cogan Station and Dutty Matrey of this city; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three brothers. The funeral was Wednesday at Barr’s, 124 Main St., Watsontown, with the Rev. John R. Manley officiating. Burial was in Elimsport Cemetery.
Ralph L. Lyons
Ralph L. Lyons, 76, of Lamar died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Manor Care, Jersey Shore. He and his wife, Shirley Lyons, observed their 27th wedding anniversary Aug. 5. He retired from Hammermill in 1985. He was a Navy veteran of World War II He was a social member of Castanea Fire Co. He was a 1943 graduate of Lock Haven High School. Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Lock Haven, he was a son of Harry and Matilda Smith Lyons. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Melvin in Florida and William of Muncy; a daughter, Kathy D. Douty of Jersey Shore; a brother, Gordon of Lamar; a sister, Helen Day of Lamar; and six grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington.

The funeral will be Monday for Gail L. Thomas, 45, of 825 Grimesville Road, who died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital emergency room. She and her husband, James A. Thomas, observed their 25th wedding anniversary Aug 3. She was a housekeeper. She was a 1972 graduate of Williamsport High School and a 1976 graduate of Lycoming College. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and its women’s club. Born Nov. 26, 1954, in this city, she was a daughter of James L. and Sophia Angeski Bay. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Jennifer K. at home; a son, Michael D. at home; a brother, Robert Bay of Laurel, Del.; and a sister, Gloria Griess of Troy. COVINGTON - Ridge J. Warren, 55, of Covington RR 1 died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. His wife, the former Corinne Borden died in 1977 and he had planned to be married in August to his fiancee, Brenda Losinger. He was employed by Ward Manufacturing as a machinist. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting an fishing trips to Canada. Born Feb. 23, 1945, in Whitneyville, he was a son of Denver and Agnes Bailey Warren. Surviving, besides his fiancee, are two sons, Todd H. of Wellsboro and Robbie J. of Morris Run; two brothers, Larry of Wellsboro and Steve, address unknown; three sisters, Patty Harvey of Mansfield, Carol Dailey and Anita Frost, both of Tioga; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Toothacher, and a brother, Denver. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield. Betty C. Bausinger
Betty C. Bausinger, 82, of 6089 Marella Drive, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Montoursville, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Doctor’s Hospital, Sarasota, after a lengthy illness. She and her husband, John E. Bausinger, observed their 59th wedding anniversary in October. She retired as a bookkeeper from Heverly Petroleum, now M.W. Farmer. She was a 1938 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Born Oct. 12, 1919, in this city, she was a daughter of David and Ann Sanders. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Cathy Shaffer, with whom she lived, and Susan Kelley of Sarasota; a son, J. Barry of South Williamsport; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Andrew M. France Jr., her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. MIFFLINBURG - Miriam F. Beckley, 95, of 201 S. Fifth St. died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at The RiverWoods, Lewisburg. Her husband, Thomas Hervey Beckley, died June 26, 1972. She had taught at Renninger’s School, Snyder County. She was a member of the Vicksburg Flower Club. She was a 1921 graduate of Middleburg High School and attended Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Born March 20, 1905, in Globe Mills, Snyder County, she was a daughter of Charles Albert and Jennie Libbie Kline Herman. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Herman of Shiremanstown and David Leroy of Lewisburg; six grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ethan Allen Herman, and a sister, Ruth Herman. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, 509 Green St., with the Rev. Kavin K. Grace Mary Thomas Brickley
LOCK HAVEN - Grace Mary Thomas Brickley, 81, formerly of 433 W. Main St., died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital. She had been a resident of SusqueView Nursing Home for nearly two years. Her husband, Harris E. Brickley, died Nov. 9, 1998. She retired in 1985 as head of the English department at the former Lock Haven High School. She and her husband were former owners of Brickley and Sons Ice Cream Manufacturing Co. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, garden and bridge clubs and had served on the board of the Ross Library. She was a graduate of the former Lock Haven High School, Swarthmore College and Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She recieved her masters in English from Mansfiled University. Born Aug. 6, 1918, in Weedville, she was a daughter of Dr. David W. and Grace Elizabeth Edwards Thomas Sr. Surviving are a son, Damuel D. of Center Harbor, N.H.; a brother, Dr. David W. Thomas of Lock Haven; two grandchildren, Samuel D. II and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Elizabeth; a brother, John Thomas; and three sisters, Christine Howatt, Margaret Ann Morrisette and Jane Thomas. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., with the Rev. Kenneth G. Page, Great Island Presbyterian Church, officiating.
