OVAL - Michael D. Evans, 46, of Sunbury RR 5, the brother of an Oval woman, died there Wednesday, June 14, 2000. He and his wife, the former Sherry Miller, were married for 24 years. He was a supervisor at Conway Central Express for four years and plant manager for Creation Windows, Selinsgrove, for 10 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended the 55th Men’s Cursillo. He was a 1973 graduate of Milton High School. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, Selinsgrove, where he was an usher and eucharistic minister. Born in Berwick, he was a son of Charles W. and Rose Villa Evans. Surviving, besides his wife, are his stepmother, Peg Evans of Milton; three daughters, Amy, Christine, and Mary Rose, and a son, Stephen, all at home; three sisters, Judy McLaughlin of Oval, Christine Rantz of Montandon and Angela Evans of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two brothers, Charles of Carlisle and David of Easton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Balliet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with the Rev. William Forrey officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam. Friends may call at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with a recitation of the rosary at 8:30. The family will provide the flowers.
Florence L. Bunn Faivre
BLOSSBURG - Florence L. Bunn Faivre, 90, formerly of Riverside Park, Blossburg, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in the Green Home, Wellsboro. Her first husband, Thurlow Bunn, and her second husband, Arthur Faivre, predeceased her. She and her second husband owned and operated the Kozy Korner Restaurant. She enjoyed embroidering and bird watching. She was a member of Blossburg United Methodist Church. Born Sept. 3, 1909, in English Center, she was a daughter of Daniel and Rosa Weigel Griswold. Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Evans of Powhatan, Va., Dolores Wesneski and Wilma Hall, both of Blossburg; a son, Roger Bunn of Lexington Park, Md.; a sister, Cecille Blair of Circleville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Virginia, and several sisters and brothers. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zwicharowski’s, 344 Granger St., with her pastor, the Rev. Archie Cruikshank, officiating. Burial will be in Arbon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Bernadine Delisi Hoylman
Bernadine Delisi Hoylman, 49, of Chambersburg Road, Biglerville, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at home. She was the sister of a city man. She was presently a kindergarten and first grade teacher at James Gettys Elementary School, Gettysburg, and previously held many other teaching positions. She was a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, co-president of Franklin Township School Parent Teacher Organization,faculty representative for James Gettys School Parent Teacher Organization and Gettysburg Area School District staff development center. She was a member of Gettysburg United Methodist Church. Born Feb. 3, 1951, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Anthony J. and Dena Aloisi Delisi. Surviving, besides her husband, Robert L. Hoylman, are two sons, Nathan D. and David D., both of Gettysburg; a brother, Anthony J. Delisi of this city; and a sister, Antoinette M. Delisi of Boston, Mass. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Christ Chapel, Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, with the Rev. Charles R. Slaybaugh Jr., officiating. A private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. James W. Kopp
Word has been received of the death of James W. Kopp, 69, a former city resident who died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at his home in Phoenix. He was an editor at the Miami Herald, New York Post and Chicago Tribune for more than 30 years. Prior to that, he was a reporter, feature writer and editor at the Grit until 1961. He received a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1959. Born in DuBois, he was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Elk County. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Dolores and two sisters, Bonnie Waters of East Aurora, N.Y., and Joyce of Kersey. A memorial service will be in Ridgway this summer. Arrangements were handled by Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix.
Casimir J. Manikowski
BLOSSBURG - Casimir J. Manikowski, 80, of Bleeker Street died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Broad Acres, Wellsboro. He and his wife, the former Virginia Boinski, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary June 5. He retired in 1985 from J.P. Ward Foundry and previously owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store in Blossburg. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of William B. Wilson Post 572, American Legion, and Sacrifice Post 8730, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2167. He was a 1938 graduate of Blossburg High School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Born here Feb. 21, 1920, he was a son of Stanley and Cecelia Nowak Manikowski. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Michael of Farmington, N.Y.; a granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth, and four brothers, Chester, Monsignor Edward, Sylvester and Ambrose. A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Zwicharowski’s, 314 Granger St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the church, 138 St. Mary’s St., with his pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Seegar, celebrant. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A vigil at 8 p.m. will be followed by a Knights of Columbus service.
Charles L. Stackhouse Sr.
Charles L. “Speedy” Stackhouse Sr. 61, of 869 Second St. died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Ruth E. Miller, observed their 13th wedding anniversary Sept. 26. He was owner of the former Granny’s Subs and Pizza, Camel and Park avenues. He attended Montoursville schools. He enjoyed bingo, traveling to Atlantic City, flea markets and was a citizens band radio enthusiast. He was a member of the former Barbour’s United Methodist Church. Born June 5, 1939, in Sayre, he was a son of Warren George and Lovonia Phillips Stackhouse. Surviving, besides his wife, are four daughters, Pamela Fulger of Woolrich, Deb King of Cogan Station, Teresa Stugart of Hughesville and Cindy Cannon of Eagle River, Ala.; five sons, George of Anchorage, Ala., Chuck Divel of Linden, Mark and Shawn Divel and Charles “Spanky” Jr., all of this city; a stepson; a stepdaughter; three brothers, Ronald of Trout Run, Robert of Liberty and Elwood of Benton; two sisters, Eva Gardner of trout Run and Dona Blair of Wallace Run; 30 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Marie E. Lewis, Dunnstown United Methodist Church. Charlotte G. Bakey
Charlotte G. Bakey, 80, of 881 Table Rock Road, Gettysburg, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Gettysburg Hospital. Her husband of 58 years Charles R. Bakey Jr., survives. She was secretary and advisor to General Lucas C. Clay in the U.S. Department of Military Government in Berlin, Germany and previously secretary to J. Edgar Hoover in the F.B.I. during World War II. She had taught Business education at Ciro American College in Egypt for several years. She was involved with her husband in United States Foreign service in Egypt, Turkey, India and England. Born Aug. 26, 1919, in Sterling, N.J., she was a daughter of James and Calista Worster Gearhart. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Suzanne M. Fricke of Silver Spring, Md. and Charlotte L. of Hanover; a brother, Gerald Gearhart; and two grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery, with the Rev. Roosevelt Brown officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Monahan’s, Gettysburg.
John H. Chase
LOCK HAVEN - John H. Chase, 67, of 916 E. Water St., died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center. He was an ordained Methodist minister in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and a professor of sociology and social worker studies at Hock Haven University from 1996 until his retirement in 1994. He and his wife, the former Ruth M. MacEachon, observed their 48th wedding anniversary July 21. He was a 1950 graduate of Lockport High School and majored in psychology while attending the State University College in Oswego, N.Y., from 1967 to 1970. He attended Princeton Seminary, majoring in theology and obtaining his Phd., and Rutgers University, where he majored in sociology. He was a member of the Lock Haven Elks, Lodge 182, and a former member of Lock Haven and Mill Hall Kiwanis Clubs. Born on Oct. 15, 1932, in Lockport, he was a son of Orlin J. and Edna Wienke Chase. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Patricia L. Inman of Lawrenceville, N.J. and Cynthia L. Chase of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sons, Robert J. of Pearland, Texas and Brian A. of Dallas, Texas; a brother, David L. of Brandon, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St.
Stephen A. Cillo
Stephen A. Cillo, 75, of 1585 Pine Crest Drive, South Williamsport, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Ida M. Mayer, observed their 51st wedding anniversary Oct. 2. He was owner and operator of Stephen Supply and Novelty Co., South Williamsport, for many years. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 617, South Williamsport. He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. Born April 30, 1925, in this city, he was a son of Nick and Lucy Crispino Cillo. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Stephen Jr. of Norwalk, Ohio, Nick A. of Montoursville and Donald P. of South Williamsport; two brothers, Jerry of Montoursville and Anthony of this city; two sisters, Doris Campanis of State College and Stella Delycure of Montoursville; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann M. Cillo Bower and a sister, Sally. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Betty Ann Bellinger Clark
Betty Ann Bellinger Clark, 67, of Arnot, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Broad Acres, Wellsboro. She was previously employed by Canton Manufacturing, Canton. She was a member of Arnot Presbyterian Church. Born Feb. 10, 1933 in Blossburg, she was a daughter of Harold and Marion Ogden Bellinger Sr. Surviving are her mother of Wellsboro; companion Richard H. Pheleps; a daughter, Sharon Allen of Canton; two sons, Terry L. Sr. of Arnot and Richard W. Pheleps of Blossburg; four sisters, Lois Kirkendall, Beverly Campbell and Shirley Smith, all of Arnot and Charlotte Heck of Liberty; a brother, Harold Bellinger Jr. of Arnot; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Freeberg’s, 120 N. Williamson Road, Blossburg, with the Rev. John Shypulefski, officiating. Burial will be in Arnot Cemetery. Geraldine L. Cleveland
WELLSBORO - Geraldine L. Cleveland, 73, of Wellsboro RR 7, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at her home. She and her husband, Marion “Pete” L. Cleveland, observed thier 54th wedding anniversary Jan. 18. She had worked for the Wellsboro Corning Glass Factory and Shumway Meat, for 18 years. She was a member of Coolidge Hollow United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking and crocheting. Born Nov. 5, 1927, here, she was the daughter of Alvin J. and Clarinda Butler Huck. Besides her husband, surviving are a daughter, Connie Rice, of Wellsboro; four sisters, Thelma Rusak of Bath, N.Y., Arlene Brown, Edna Johnson and Mary Heatwole, all of Wellsboro; three brothers, Alvin, Norman and Ed Huck, all of Wellsboro; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold James Cleveland, and a brother, Floyd Huck. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with Rev. Bernard Wynn officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Tioga County Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.
Michael E. Knerr
Michael E. Knerr, 64, of Alameda, Calif., a city native, died Friday, June 9, 2000. His wife of 16 years, the former Mindy Hart, survives. He had worked at Avco as a technical writer at Avco and as a reporter for newspapers in Shamokin and this city. He had over 16 published works, his firs a poem at age 13. He was author of a number of novels, including Sasquach and Suicide in Guyana. His latest efforts were focused on short fiction. He was a member of Western Writers of America. He enjoyed history, muzzle loading sailing and panning for gold in the mountains of California. Born May 31, 1936, in this city, he was a son of Michael F. and Monica W. Knerr. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Daniel of this city and Christopher of McDonough, Ga.; a brother, Thomas of this city; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In keeping with his wishes there will be no formal services.
Laverna A. Tracy
Laverna A. Tracy, 74, of Harrison Valley, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Greensboro, N.C. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Harrison Valley Federated Church. Joseph Ulrich Jr.
Joseph Ulrich Jr., 80, of Hatfield, formerly of Williamsport, died Thursday night at Grandview Hospital in Rockhill Township, after failing health. He retired in 1988 from the maintenance department of the former Moore Products, Spring House. He was an active member of Presentation of Our Lord Ukranian Catholic Church in Towmencin Township, where he served as sacristan for many years, volunteered at the church bingo game, and made pierogies. He supported the Pius 10th society and the Fraternity of St. Peter. He was a member of Pius 9th Council of Knights of Columbus, Landsdale, the Holy Name Society, the Senior Citizens Center in Harleysville and Indian Valley and a life member of the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. in Conshohocken. He enjoyed reading, nature, animals and gardening. Born Aug 6, 1924, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ellen Hawkins Ulrich. Surviving are a brother, Robert of Montoursville; and three sisters, Lucy Kreidler of South Williamsport, Anna Belle Sherwood of Muncy and Mary Chesnut of Trout Run. Requiem Divine Liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Presentation of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1564 Allentown Road, Towmencin Twp. Interment will be in the St. John Neumann Cemetary, Chalfont Pa. Friends may call at the Simcox-McIlvaine’s, 532 E. Main St, Landsdale from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Catherine A. Allison, 71, of 798 W. Edwin St. died Friday, June 16, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She was a retired admissions clerk at Divine Providence Hospital and a waitress at Tag’s Bar and Grill. She was a member of Church of the Annunciation. Born March 26, 1929, in Mt. Carmel, she was a daughter of Francis and Amelia Horoschak McAle. Surviving are three sons, Michael R. of Aurora, Colo., Thomas P. of Montoursville and Timothy J. of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Annabelle Brobst of South Williamsport and Joan Soloman, city; and six grandchildren. A Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in the church, West Fourth and Walnut streets, with the Rev. John K. Manno, her priest, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday. The family will provide the flowers. Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, is handling arrangements.
Mary Ellen Coburn
Mary Ellen Coburn, 84, of 310 South Washington St Muncy, died Saturday, June 16, 2000, at the Manor Care North Health Services in Williamsport. She was preceeded in death by her husband, John Coburn. She was a member of Muncy Presbyterian Church for 51 years, and a 1934 Muncy High School graduate. She was the daughter of William W. and Edna L. Spitler Welsh. There are no immediate survivors. The Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at Wallis-Grenoble Funeral home, 121 South Main St Muncy, with the Rev. Frank Leon Morgan, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Muncy Cemetary. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
