A graveside service will be Saturday for Elmer Sidney Bowers, 58, of 2105 Carcanas St., Tampa, Fla., formerly of Hughesville, who died Monday, June 19, 2000, at home. Survivors include five stepchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont, with the Rev. Patricia Henandez, Picture Rocks Baptist Church, officiating. The family will provide the flowers.

Lila W. Edwards
Lila W. Edwards, 69, of Fifth and Main streets, Antes Fort, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at home. Her husband, Vernon L. Edwards, died Sept. 6, 1987. She retired from Janey’s Restaurant. Born Dec. 10, 1931, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of George and Helen Wise Waddell. Surviving are three sons, Gary W. Harris of Tacoma, Wash., Larue V. Rudy Edwards of Woolrich and Dennis J. Edwards of Montgomery; two daughters, Cynthia L. Brown of Antes Fort and Peggy Rodabaugh of Ashland, Ky.; four sisters, Thelma Bierly of Jersey Shore, Martha Horn of Salladasburg, Ruth Mahaffey of Linden and Alma Payne of Sheboggan, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.

Woodrow W. Gentzyel
Woodrow W. “Frip” Gentzyel, 81, of North Bend died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in the Bucktail Medical Center extended care unit, South Renovo. He retired as an assembler for Piper Aircraft and previously worked at the tannery in North Bend. A World War II Army veteran, he served with the 101st Airborne Unit as a paratrooper and received the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign medal; American Campaign medal, and the World War II Victory medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1630, both in Renovo. He enjoyed riding his tractor, camping and working outdoors. In earlier years he was an avid baseball player. Born Sept. 12, 1918, in North Bend, he was a son of Henry and Rachael Walizer Gentzyel. Surviving are four sons, Larry, Kevin, David and Tim, all of Renovo; a daughter, Sharon Fantaskey of Renovo; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, with the Rev. John Godissart, officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery, North Bend. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Santa Croce Lincoln
Santa Croce Lincoln, 71, of Mountain View Estates, Avis, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital extended care unit. She was the widow of Thomas F. Croce and Edwin H. Lincoln. She was a waitress at the former Henry’s Restaurant and the former Lock’s Restaurant, both in Lock Haven. She lived in Florida for 23 years, returning to Lock Haven in 1999. She attended Lock Haven schools. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven. Surviving are a daughter, Karen M. Croce, and a son, Thomas W. Croce, both of Lock Haven; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. Neil R. Dadey, officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Daniel K. Plankenhorn Sr.
Daniel K. Plankenhorn Sr., 90, a resident of Roseview Center, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. His wife, the former Eva Jean Woodside, died Aug. 4, 1995. He retired in 1975 as a mechanic for Edward’s Lakes to Sea. He was a charter member of Amalgamated Transit Union. Born, Nov. 5, 1909, in South Williamsport, he was a son of Herman Howser and Clara Kreitz Plankenhorn. Surviving are two sons, James K. of South Williamsport and Daniel K. Jr. of Cogan Station; a brother, Benjamin of Roseview Center; two sisters, Louise Probst of Montoursville and Martha Larimer of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith; a sister, Sylvia Gaston; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor J. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave. South Williamsport, with elder D. Thomas Beachem, First Christian Church, Montoursville, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Robert D. Roller Sr.
JERSEY SHORE - Robert D. Roller Sr., 59, of 161 Long Lane died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 in the Jersey Shore Hospital emergency room after being stricken at home. He and his wife, the former Pamela Hollick observed their 34th wedding anniversary Oct. 2. He retired in 1998 from Alcan Cable after nearly 33 years as a rod mill line operator. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School’s tech program, where he studied sheet metal working. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he recently was instrumental in the construction of the fellowship hall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Born March 29, 1941, in Williamsport, he was a son of Lloyd and Eleanor Vollman Roller. He was reared from an early age by his father and stepmother Carmen Nesbit Roller. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Robert “Rob” D. Jr.; a brother, Kenneth of Williamsport; a sister, Shirley Harman of Williamsport; and a stepsister, Charlene Koch of Jersey Shore RR. Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St.

Gerald B. Cavaliere
Gerald B. Cavaliere, 70, of New Columbia, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Jeanne Redis, would have observed their 39th wedding anniversary July 29. He retired as plant manager from Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary as a journeyman tool and die maker. A Korean War veteran of the Air Force, he was a member of American Legion Post 71 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 334, fourth degree knight, treasurer for 11 years and member of Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Renovo, and the former Williamsport Area Community College. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Milton. Born Sept. 1, 1929, in Renovo, he was a son of Biaggio and Virginia Mazzula Cavaliere. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Gerald W. of Milton; two daughters, Tina Marie of this city and Carol Ann of Portland, Conn.; a brother, Albert of Ridgeway; a sister, Lucia M. of Orange, Mass.; and a granddaughter, Ruby. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, Renovo, with the Rev. Donald Boslett officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner, with military honors accorded by the combined veterans organizations. Friends may call at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, from 7 to 9 tonight, with a vigil, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Allow extra travel time due to the detour of Route 120.

Sally A. Lowmiller
Sally A. Lowmiller, 73, of 103 Lawson St., died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at home after a brief illness. Her husband, Donald R. Lowmiller Sr., died March 7, 1996. Sh retired from Wundies in 1990 after 19 years. Born June 6, 1927, in this city, she was a daughter of Russell R. and Statia E. Cable Forney. Surviving are a daughter, Donna R. McAnany of this city; two sons, Russell C. of Prattville, Ala. and Donald R. “Sam” II of South Williamsport; two brothers, Samuel Forney of Melbourne, Fla. and Russell Forney of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Mary Larson of Jamestown, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Anne Elizabeth Schenck
Anne Elizabeth Schenck, 54, of Lock Haven HCR, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Richard D. Schenck, would have observed their 33rd wedding anniversary July 14. She was a bartender and waitress at Waterville Hotel. She was a graduate of Bartram High School, Philadelphia. Born March 11, 1946, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of William and Edith Cryder McBride. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Kimberly A. Siegfried of Easton and Sherry A. Byrd of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and three grandchildren. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington.

Robert D. Roller Sr.
JERSEY SHORE - The funeral will be today for Robert D. Roller Sr., 59, of 161 Long Lane, who died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in the Jersey Shore Hospital emergency room after being stricken at home. He is survived by a son, Robert “Rob” D. Jr. of this borough. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church, corner of Glover and Allegheny streets, with his pastor, the Rev. Michael Guiswite, officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St.

Helen E. Kymble Umlauf
Helen E. Kymble Umlauf, 88, formerly of Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Heritage Hall West, Agawam, Mass. She was the widow of Donald E. Umlauf. She retired from Naugatuck Fuel Co. and had worked at Naugatuck Savings Bank and the U.S. Rubber Co., all in Naugatuck, Conn. She was a former member of the Evergreen Chapter 22, Eastern Star. She was a member of United Methodist Church and its womens society. Born April 2, 1912, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Robert A. and Agnes Walk Kymble. Surviving are a son, Donald F. of Rindge, N.H.; a daughter, Barbara Josephson of Westfield, Mass; a brother, Richard Kymble of Jersey Shore; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Grove Cemetery in Connecticut. Arrangements are being handled by Alderson’s, 201 Meadow St., Naugatuck.

Guy I. Erdley Sr.
WATSONTOWN - Guy I. Erdley Sr., 87, of 501 Liberty St. died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he had been a patient since June 13. He and his third wife, the former Eunice C. Yocum Harding, observed their 20th wedding anniversary March 15. He retired in 1977 after 30 years as security guard for Zenith Corp. and previously worked as an over the road truck driver for Allenwood Molasses Co. He was a life member of West Branch Volunteer Fire Co., its fire police and an ambulance driver. He was a member of Northumberland Fire Co. Number One. An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Combat Infantry medal and ETO Ribbon with three battle stars. He was a member of Clyde F. Mower American Legion Post 323. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Born July 25, 1912, near Middleburg, he was a son of Charles S. and Sally M. Walter Erdley. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Sandra K. Pick of Watsontown and Sharon L. Merrill of Loganton; a Son, Guy J of White Deer; a stepdaughter, Donna Gale Fogelman of Lewisburg and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Katherine Gossler; his second wife, the former Alverna Dersham Fogelman; and a brother, Clarence. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St. Burial will be in Mazeppa Union Cemetery with military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Miriam J. Gohrs
Miriam J. Gohrs, 88, formerly of South Williamsport, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Grace Living Center, Bethany, Okla.Her husband, Theodore Gohrs died in 1976. She was a homemaker. Born Jan. 8, 1912, in Falls Creek, she was a daughter of Harry E. and Viva Graham Shelley. There are no immediate survivors. Burial was held in Greenlawn Memorial Park. There was no visitation. Flowers were provided. Arrangements were handled by Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.

Maytha S. Housel
WELLSBORO - Maytha S. Housel, 72, of Wellsboro RR 7, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Samaratin House. Her husband, Purley A. Housel Sr., died April 8, 1998. She retired as food service supervisor at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a 1945 graduate of Little Marsh High School. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening. Born July 2, 1927, in Farmington Township, she was a daughter of Ivan and Alice Bartholomew Stanford. Surviving are two sons, Purley A. Jr. of Wellsboro RR 7, Kevin L. of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Karol L. Hinchey of Smethport; two brothers, Ronald Stanford of Middlebury Center and Donald Stanford of Elmira, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Caitlin and Kellie Hinchey and Joshua. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, West Avenue, with the Rev. Peter A. DeVantier, officiating. Burial will be in Middlebury Union Cemetery. Friends may call at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mary J. Kingsley
MANSFIELD - Mary J. Kingsley, 75, formerly of Mansfield, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro. She was a secretary in New York City, for the former Mansfield State Teachers College and the Southern Tioga School System. She was a member of POE of Mansfield. She enjoyed gardening, painting and reading. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School and Elmira College. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Born March 24, 1925, in Blossburg, she was a daughter of Harry B. and Julia Strange Kingsley. Only two cousins survive. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Scureman’s, 130 South Main St., with the Rev. Rudolph J. van der Hiel, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. today.

Evelyn V. Stebbings McHugh
Evelyn V. Stebbings McHugh, 92, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro. She was the widow of James McHugh. She was a portriat painter. She enjoyed music, reading and traveling. Born May 24, 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she was a daughter of William and Marie Haynes Stebbings. Only cousins survive. In keeping with her wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield.

George Alvin Shires
HUGHESVILLE - George Alvin Shires, 76, of 45 N. Broad St., died Friday, June 23, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Mildred Wilson observed their 51st wedding anniversary May 8. He retired from Schnadig in 1989 and had worked at Modecraft, Montoursville. An Army veteran of World War II he served in the Pacific Theater and was a member of Glenn Sharrow American Legion Post 35, Hughesville and Edward J. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3428, Muncy. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Danville. Born Oct. 31, 1923, in Picture Rocks, he was a son of William and Effie Reese Shires. Surviving, besides his wife, are five daughters, Diana Kuhns of Cogan Station, Jean Malone of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Reiner and Jeannette, both of Hughesville and Tammy Arnold of Thurmont, Md.; three sons, Dennis of Muncy, Richard of Northumberland and Cheynenne, Wy.; a brother, Joseph in New York; three sisters, Neola Hanna of Montoursville, Ruth Gephart and Anna Hornick, both of this city; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Althea McCaffrey and two brothers, Clarence and Charles. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. David K. Fishel, Hughesville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military honors accorded by the combined veterans organizations. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
