Diane B. Borgmann, 60, of Warminster, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at Hahnemann Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late John and Gretta Wisehaupt. Surviving are: children, Hans and Peter Borgmann, Warminster; and a brother, John "Denny" Wisehaupt, Bellefonte. She was a substitute teacher in the Centenial School District. Her service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Decker Funeral Home, 216 York Road, Warminster. Interment will be at noon Friday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
BELLEVILLE - Mary Olive (Tate) Borst, 89, a resident of Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Valley View Haven. Born Nov. 14, 1911 in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late George and Catherine (Hoy) Tate. Her husband Douglas R. Borst preceded her in death in 1964. Surviving are: children, Ray Borst, Merrittstown, Dean Borst, Murraysville, Jerry Borst, Brentwood, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Buenting, Lewistown, Roger Borst, North Huntingdon, and Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Miller, Glen Rock; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She was a graduate of the Penn State University Home Economics program. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Pitcairn. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Avenue, Burnham, with the Rev. Bert Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Penn Lincoln Cemetery, North Huntingdon. Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. today until the time of the service at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
MIFFLINTOWN - Melvin K. Bortell, 90, of Brookline Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1, formerly of Lewistown, died at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at the village. He was born Oct. 27, 1910, in McVeytown, Mifflin County. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Kenneth (Kay L.) Stuck, Mifflintown and Thomas J. Bortell, Tucson, AZ; a sister, Violet Meade, New York, NY; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Louis A. Bortell in 1962. He was a 1928 graduate of Lewistown High School. He began his employment at the Tom Johnson Shoe Store, Lewistown as a high school student and retired as the store's owner and operator in 1979, with over 50 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewistown. He was also a member of the Lewistown Lodge F&AM 203; the Lewistown Royal Arch Chapter 186; a 50 year member of the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg; and the Harrisburg Consistory, AASR. He had been active in the Lewistown Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horticulture. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Jeffrey D. McCleary officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Family will provide all funeral flowers. MCALISTERVILLE - Jay L. Botteicher, 47, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 4:49 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 23, 1953, in Lewistown, he was the son of Margaret (Gardner) Botteicher of McAlisterville RR2 and the late Ralph J. Botteicher. He is survived by sisters and brothers, Margaret West, Mifflin, Ralph J. Botteicher Jr., Dunellen, NJ, John L. Botteicher, Mrs. Daryl (Naomi) Marietta and Mrs. Kenneth (Brenda) Hall, all of Levittown. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister. He was employed by the Cocolamus Creek Disposal Service, McAlisterville RR1. He was a member of the Morrisville Elks Lodge and the Juniata Sportsmen's Club. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Salvation Army, 9 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MCALISTERVILLE - Ralph J. Botteicher, 79, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born May 8, 1921, in Granville Township, he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Anna (Weaver) Botteicher. His wife, Margaret (Gardner) Botteicher, whom he married Nov. 23, 1940, survives. He is also survived by children, Margaret West, Mifflin, Ralph J. Botteicher Jr., Dunellen, NJ, John L. Botteicher, Mrs. Daryl (Naomi) Marietta, and Mrs. Kenneth (Brenda) Hall, all of Levittown, and Jay L. Botteicher, McAlisterville; sisters and brothers, John L. Botteicher, Amy Shell, and Mrs. Abner (Hilda) Attivo, all of Lewistown, and James Botteicher, Fort Smith, Ark.; 23 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. He was preceded in death by two infant children and one brother, Harry Botteicher. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army Air Corps in the European Theatre. He was employed by United States Steel Fairless Hills Works, (now USX), as a leadman in the Open Hearth Division for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion Post 317, Yardley; the American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown; the United Steelworkers of America Local 2023, Fairless Hills; and the Juniata Sportsmens Club. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with a graveside flag presentation by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Viola V. Bowen, 90, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, formerly of Port Royal RR3 (Tuscarora), died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 200l, at Locust Grove. Born Aug. 20, 1911, in Spring Run, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Elsie (Guyer) Reed. Her husband, Edward J. Bowen, died Dec. 30, 1977. Surviving are: children, Paul S. Bowen, New Cumberland, Doris B. Hoverter, Lewistown, Nancy J. Foose, Port Royal RR3, Donald W. Bowen, Mechanicsburg, and Linda M. Burris, Thompsontown; brothers and sisters, Lester Reed, Spring Run, Geraldine Miley, Fannettsburg and George P. Reed, Bellefonte; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons, Robert Bowen, Edward "Junior" Bowen, James Bowen and Thomas A. Bowen; two daughters, Loretta Miller and Victoria Bowen; one grandson, one great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter. She worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad during WW II and retired from Empire Kosher Poultry, Mifflintown. She was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren and attended the Port Royal Senior Citizen's Center. Her service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Forrest Gordon officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
MCVEYTOWN - Marcella M. "Sal" Bowersox, 69, a resident of Meadow View Manor, McVeytown, died at 4:43 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the manor. Born Nov. 12, 1931, in Granville Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Sr. and Hildagarde (Hahn) Powers. She is survived by children, William E. Bowersox Jr., and Debora M. Bowersox, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Ronald (Gail) Phillips, Spring Mills, Mrs. Larry (Holly) Addleman, Centre Hall, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Penelope) Miller, Reedsville; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Claude (Lulu) Shawver, Coburn, Alberta Smith, Yeagertown, Audrey Stains, Beavertown, Ralph Powers, Lewistown, and Mrs. David (Betty) Shawver, Tyrone; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Powers Jr. and sister, Hilda Covalt. She was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Early in life, she was worked as a production employee at the American Viscose Corporation. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Kenneth E. Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown, where graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. THREE SPRINGS - Dorothy Ann Bowman, 64, of RD2, Box 116, Three Springs, formerly of Huntingdon and Port Royal, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. Born Dec. 8, 1937, in Clover Creek, she was the daughter of the late Jacob William and Vergie (Rhine) Traxler. Her husband, Milton Bowman, whom she married Aug. 31, 1964, preceded her in death on June 13, 1986. Surviving are: children, Shirley M. "Cheryl" Smith, Saltillo, Jesse A. Bowman, Three Springs and Kevin M. Bowman, Elizabethtown; a brother, Denver W. Traxler, Hollidaysburg; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ellen J. Rhine, Rachel L. Traxler, Della C. Moore and Betty J. Aponte and brothers, Robert E. Traxler and Jacob C. Traxler. She was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Three Springs Assembly of God Church. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David F. Sproull officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until hour of service Wednesday.
