NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL - Martha J. Bowman, 83, of North Miami Beach, FL, died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Aventura Hospital, North Miami Beach, FL. Born March 12, 1918, in Newton Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Parsons) Gehrett. She is survived by a sister, H. Ruth White of Columbia, MD, and two brothers, Robert R. Gehrett Jr. of Grafton, OH, and J. Paul Gehrett of Newtown, CT. She was preceded in death by a brother, C. William Gehrett. She served in the Women's Army Corps and served as a weather forecaster at Lake Charles, LA. She worked in various government library projects in Washington, DC for 30 years. She was Presbyterian by faith. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Salvation Army, 9 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in in charge of arrangements.
RIVERSIDE - Jean Lauretta Boyer, 71, of Riverside, died at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at her home, following an illness of the past year. Born July 5, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Daniel C. and Sarah Ellen (Hironimus) Libby of Burnham. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at The James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Earl P. Robb officiating. Interment will be in Hironimus Church Cemetery, Hartley Township. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
SELINSGROVE - Kenneth H. Boyer, 92, of RR3 Selinsgrove, died at 7:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his residence. Born Sept. 15, 1909, in Snyder County, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Longacre) Boyer. He was married to the late Mae (Miller) Boyer who preceded him in death in August, 1944. On August 4, 1951, he married the late Thelma (Erb) who preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 1999. Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Elaine Benner, RR4 Middleburg, two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Ann and Clair Inch Jr., McAlisterville, and Betsy and Craig Mitterling, RR1 Port Treverton; sisters, Edith Miller and Hazel Wetzel, both of Selinsgrove; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a 1928 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and a graduate of Penn State University. Throughout his life he farmed. He was also a Vo-Ag teacher, SUN area Vo-Ag Supervisor, Associate Judge in Snyder County and executive director for ASCS in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau where he received the State Distinguished Service award, the Holstein Association where he was elected to the state Hall of Fame and was the past director of the North Eastern Farm Credit. His funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, at the Salem Lutheran Church, RR1 Selinsgrove, with his minister, Rev. Robert G. Kidd, officiating. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, RR1 Selinsgrove. Friends may call from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Thursday, at V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and from 10:30 until the time of the service Friday, at the church. LEWISTOWN - Luther M. Boyer Sr., 79, of 539 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. Born Oct. 14, 1921, in White Deer, he was the son of the late Ralph Jacob and Dessie (Middlesworth) Boyer. His wife, Mary (Heider) Boyer, died in 1994. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Glenn (Linda) Sanders, Cincinnati, OH and Luther M. Boyer Jr., Lewistown; stepson, Joseph A. Heider, Granville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, Arthur Boyer and Annabelle Burris; and a grandson, Jefferson Scott Sanders. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired as a United States Postal Clerk in 1974. He was a life member of VFW Post 5893, Mifflintown and the Brooklyn Hose Company, Lewistown and a member of the Elks Lodge 663, Lewistown. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown, where graveside military services will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Madalynn S. Bradford, 85, of 12300 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Valley View Retirement Community, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville. Born Nov. 2, 1915, in Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Franklin T. and Nora E. Shawver. Her husband, John P. Bradford, died June 20, 1996. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Glenn (Helen) Aurand, Courtland, Kan., Sara Bradford, Lewistown RR1, Marlin Bradford, Danville, and Nelson Bradford, Milroy; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was a self-employed farmer's wife, dairy farming over 50 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Ellen Chapel Church and a member of the Fort Granville Grange. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. J. Faust Hissong officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing; however, family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Fort Granville Grange, c/o Donald Doll, PO Box 272, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
SELINSGROVE - Charles I. Brandt, 73, of Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, died at 3:28 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at his home. Born April 23, 1928, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ira D. and Martha (Oberholtzer) Brandt. His wife, Ruth (Schell) Brandt, whom he married Sept. 12, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, Gary C. and Barbara J. Brandt of Northumberland and one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia B. and Donald L. Bordner of Selinsgrove; seven grandchildren, Shelly Walter, Stacey Hyde, Spe. Angela Brandt, Kimberly Hyde, Michael White, Rebecca Brandt and Lauren Finnerty; and three great-grandchildren, Karena Walter, Matthew Walter and Aidan Finnerty. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He graduated from Fayette High School in McAlisterville and attended Elizabethtown College. He was employed in home sales for Brosious and Sun and Fun, and worked as a carpenter for Fleet Wood and Tower Homes, where he retired from. He lived in Juniata County before moving to Selinsgrove. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Selinsgrove, where he was very involved in various church committees and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of the Kreamer Sportsmen Club. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, gardening, loved music and was an accomplished violin and saxophone player. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Christ United Methodist Church, 8th and Mill Street, Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Larry Leland officiating. Interment will be in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown, McAlisterville RR. A viewing will be held 9 a.m. until the time of the service today at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Christ United Methodist Church, 8th and Mill Street, Selinsgrove, PA 17870 or to Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837. The V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, is in charge of arrangements.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Evelyn (Clark) Bratton, 87, of West Palm Beach, FL, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at JFK Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. Born Oct. 4, 1914 in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Shettle) Clark. Her husband David Paul Bratton Sr., whom she married Dec. 6, 1931 in Juniata County, preceded her in death in 1986. Surviving are: children, Patricia B. Clipper, West Palm Beach, FL, Josephine B. Ott, Arlington, VA, David P. Bratton Jr., Edinburg, VA, Roger C. Bratton, Pawleys Island, SC and Stephen L. Bratton, West Palm Beach, FL; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Arlington, VA. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Cemetery in Nook, Juniata County. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown is in charge of local arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Tracy L. Bratton, 28, of 2 Blue Juniata Drive, Lewistown, died of natural causes at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her home. Born June 4, 1973, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Bryson C. Bratton Jr. of Lewistown and the late Starr A. (Russell) Bratton, who preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 2000. Also surviving are: children, Damian Boaz and Raven Boaz, at home; a sister, Mrs. Frances (Lisa) Briar, New York, and a brother, Bryson C. Bratton III, Newport. She was employed at The Sentinel. Her funeral service will be private, with the Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is handling arrangements.
