Jeffrey R. Brown PORT ROYAL - Jeffrey R. Brown, 60, of Port Royal RR2, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 6, 1941, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Donald and Mary (Sunday) Brown. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Fred (Danielle S.) Shellenberger, McAlisterville RR1, Jason T. Brown, Port Royal RR2, Jeffrey N. Brown, Mifflin, Donald M. Brown and Kathryn G. Brown, both of Camp Hill; two brothers, Michael Brown, McClure and Thomas Brown, Maiden, NC; one granddaughter, Lilly M. Brown; four ste-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. He was a 1959 graduate of Lewistown High School. He retired as a brakeman with 35 years of service from Conrail, Enola and he had served as the yard master. He was a member of United Transportation Union #997, Enola . He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Penn State fan. His service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James Harper officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Lung Association of Pa., 6041 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112.

Andrew S. "Andy" Brownell, Jr. HOLIDAYSBURG &endash; Andrew S. "Andy" Brownwell Jr., 79, of Holidaysburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at Bon Secours Holy Hospital, Altoona. Born May 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Andrew S. and Rachel Cherry Brownwell. Surviving are three sisters, Ruth Parsons, wife of William of Lewistown, Helen Bard, wife of Fred of Mt. Union, and Arlene Henry, wife of Richard of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service, including that during World War II. He was a life member of the Brooklyn Fire Co. and served the area for many years as a fireman He was also a member of the Lewistown Fire Police. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown. A viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating.

MIFFLINTOWN - Gerald F. "Brownie" Brown, 86, of Winter Haven, FL, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, at his summer home at Muddy Run Road, Mifflintown RR3. Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Mercer, Mercer County, he was the son of the late William and Christina (Jennings) Brown. His companion, Maxine Berry of Thompsontown RR1, survives. Also surviving are: children, Patricia Spier Ammer, Daniel C. Brown and Thomas M. Brown, all of Denver, CO, Linda L. Epley, Carlisle, Christina J. Phipps, Mifflintown RR3, and Gerald F. Brown Jr., Mifflin; sisters, Mary Karr, Sharpesville and Louise Staunch, West Middlesex; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Brown. He retired after 40 years of owning and operating Brownie's Tavern, Mifflin. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, Mercer. He was an avid golfer and Notre Dame sports fan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Lawrence R. Coakley and the Rev. John A. Rocco officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, where a Rosary service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude's Catholic Church, c/o Building Fund, PO Box 187, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MIFFLINTOWN - Mary Louise Brown, 58, of Mifflintown RR4 (Manbeck Heights), died at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home. Born April 17, 1942, in Neelyton, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Stella (Horne) Scott. Her husband, Larry E. Brown, whom she married June 26, 1960, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mary Ann Brown, at home; brothers and sister, James Scott, Millerstown, Carol Suders, Mount Union and Steven Scott, Mifflintown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Scott and a sister, Donna Seager. She was a 1960 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union and a 1982 graduate of the Juniata-Mifflin School of Practical Nursing. She was employed by the Juniata County School District in the cafeterias of Fermanagh-Mifflintown and Mountain View Elementary Schools and then worked as a licensed practical nurse at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin from 1984 until l994. She attended New Life Assembly of God Church. She loved spending time with her family and reading her Bible. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Jack Twombly officiating. Interment will be in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: New Life Assembly of God Church, Box 417, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
MIDDLEBURG - P. Joyce Brown, 60, of 561 Paxtonville Road, Middleburg, formerly of Lewistown, died at 11:17 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in the emergency room of Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born Jan. 4, 1941, in Charleston, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Marvin D. and Phyllis (Via) Farmer. Her husband, Harry William Brown, died in 1985. Surviving are: sons, Edward Lynn Brown and Robert Michael Brown, both of Middleburg, with whom she lived; a sister, Elizabeth Smith, 114 Woodland Court, Charleston, W. Va.; and two grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of the Women of the Moose, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the mausoleum at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Kearneysville, W. Va. with the Rev. Robert Buddenhagen officiating. The Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, is in charge of arrangements.
MCCLURE - Ronald L. Bubb, 73, of McClure, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare William Penn, Lewistown, where he was a resident for the past six years. Born Aug. 8, 1927, in McClure, he was a son of the late Samuel H. and Thelma (Middleswarth) Bubb. His wife Margaret A. Folk, whom he married March 1, 1952 survives. Also surviving are: children, Teresa A. Wright, McClure RR3, Cynthia L. Kerstetter, Middleburg and Michael T. Bubb, McClure; sisters and brother, Marjorie Turrell, North Whales, Beverly Kline, Perkasie and Kirby Bubb, McClure RR2; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He retired from the former Kinney Shoe Company of Beaver Springs in 1989 after 12 years of service. He had also worked for the former Kirby Manufacturing for 35 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, where he was very active as a Sunday school teacher and lay leader. He was a member of the McClure Bean Soup Committee, the McClure Chamber of Commerce, the McClure Volunteer Fire Company, the West Snyder Lions Club, the F&AM Masonic Lodge No. 619 of Middleburg and the Harrisburg Consistory. He enjoyed reading, church activities, photography and walking. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, with the Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, PA 17841.
DEEP RUN, NC - Samuel Quay Bubb, 61, of 2345 Eric Sparrow Road, Deep Run, NC, formerly of Lewistown, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at the Veteran's Hospital in Durham, NC. He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Pierce) Bubb of Deep Run, NC; a daughter, Lisa Bubb of Kinston, NC; a son, Tobin Bubb of Snow Hill, NC; and numerous nephews and nieces in the Lewistown and surrounding areas. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the National Horseshoe Association. He served as a missionary in Waverly, NY in 1985. A private service will be held by the family at a later date. Howard-Carter & Stroud Funeral Home, Kinston, NC, is in charge of arrangements.
STATE COLLEGE - Violet R. Bubb, 90, a resident of University Park Nursing Home, and formerly of 15 W. Third St., Lewistown, died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the nursing home. Born July 15, 1911, in Cambria County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Ellen (Gray) Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Bubb. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Bobby (Patricia "Patt") Mixon, 1703 Lucille Dr., Mesquite, TX 75149-1913, and two brothers, Robert Reed of Florida and Harry Reed of Arlington, VA. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She was a sales person for G.C. Murphy Co. for 35 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and was a Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary volunteer for 30 years. A private graveside service, with the Rev. Lawrence Coakley officiating, will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. There is no viewing. The Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
