Lucinda J. Chesney
LEWISTOWN - Lucinda J. Chesney, 85, of Lewistown, formerly of McClure RR2, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 2, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Marion (Brannan) Myers. Her husband, Norman H. Chesney, whom she married Aug. 25, 1936, died Sept. 15, 1982. Surviving are: six daughters, Carolyn L. White, Lewistown, L. Jane Garrison and Vicki L. Schreffler, both of Beavertown RR1, Annie L. Bowersox, Beaver Springs RR1, Donna I. Weader, Beavertown and Ellen M. Chesney, Maitland; three sons, Norman W. Chesney, and John C. Chesney, both of McClure RR2, and Barry L. Chesney, Beaver Springs RR1; a sister, Margaret Richard, Beaver Springs RR1; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Herbert R. Edmiston in 1990 and Rev. Robert A. Chesney in 1994; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Jenisa in 1978. She was a member of the Bannerville Church of the Brethren, McClure RR2. She enjoyed lawn work, sewing, baking, gardening, and her farm. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market. St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Liane Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Bannerville Cemetery, McClure RR2. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Bannerville Church of the Brethren, RR2, McClure, PA 17841.

Richard G. Chilcott
REEDSVILLE - Richard G. Chilcott, 83, of 39 Pearl St., Reedsville, died at 7:25 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin. Born Feb. 8, 1918, in Colfax, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Hugh L. and Doris R. (Glasgow) Chilcott. His wife, Mabel A. (Fultz) Chilcott, survives. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a sister, K. Eleanor Chilcott Orner. He was a 1934 graduate of Reedsville High School and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Franklin University, Columbus, OH. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He worked for 47 and a half years at Nationwide Insurance, starting as a claims adjuster and retiring in 1981 as senior vice president. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Yeagertown. He was also a past president of Pennsylvania Claims Association, Harrisburg Consistory AASR, and Boys Club of Columbus. He was a board member of St. Stephens Community House, Columbus, OH and a board member of Franklin University. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Esther M. Cisney
MIFFLINTOWN - Esther M. Cisney, 84, of North Street, Mifflintown, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 28, 1916, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late John Roscoe and Edna Blanche (Staley) Shirk. Her husband, Harry B. Cisney Jr. died Jan. 29, 1974. She is survived by a son, Ronald C. Cisney of Mifflintown; two brothers, J. Ray Shirk and Lewis A. Shirk, both of Mifflintown; a sister, Lorraine McKnight of Mifflintown; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several infant children; one sister, Elizabeth Renninger; and two brothers, Paul E. Shirk and Glenn I. Shirk. She was a graduate of Mifflintown High School. She worked as a clerk in Shirk's Store, Mifflintown. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown and the EverReady Sunday School Class. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Anna Ritter officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 10 am until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Gladys Clark
CLEARWATER, FL - Gladys Clark, 87, of Clearwater, FL, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at her home. Surviving are: her husband of 69 years, Edward; two sons, Donol Clark, Lewiston, Maine, and Joseph Clark of Norwich, NY, and two daughters, Nina Tuset, Clearwater, FL, and Bonnie Clark, Nampa, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Lena M. Clay
THOMPSONTOWN - Lena M. Clay, 83, a resident of the Meda Nipple Convalescent Home, Thompsontown RR1, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Oct. 12, 1917, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late George and Edith (Campbell) Flood. She is survived by children, Leon Baumgardner, 1 Parker St., Mifflin, Mrs. Harold (Jacqualine) Feltman, Cherry Hill, NJ, Harry Alan Burd, Shoemakersville, and Rodger Dean Burd, Lewistown; brother and sister, Emily Wilson, Walnut and George Flood, East Waterford; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Baumgardner and five brothers. She was a homemaker and early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty L. Cline
CARLISLE - Betty L. Cline, 72, of 609 N. East St., Carlisle, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Forest Park Health Center. Born Dec. 15, 1928, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Mary J. (Washinger) Gelsinger. Her husband of 52 years, John W. Cline, survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Linda S. Mohler, Lewistown and Deborah C. Ryerson, Carlisle; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was an employee of the former Swid Brother Discount Store, C.H. Masland and Sons, both in Carlisle and Trostles Garment Company, Mt. Holly Springs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carlisle and was an active poll worker for the Republican Party for many years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Jon A. Black and the Rev. Crea Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Cemetery (North Middletown Township). Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Freda E. Close
BALTIMORE - Freda E. Close, 86, formerly Lewistown, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Harbor Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Bumgardner) McNitt. Her husband, Edward Close, preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2000. Surviving are: children, Robert Close, MD, and Mrs. Ervin (Nancy Jane) Cowder, MD; sisters and a brother, Mildred Weston, CA, Mrs. Earl (Sylva) Bettis, CA, Irene Lugar, Norrisville, and Merle McNitt, Burnham; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother. She worked at Arrow Shirt Factory for 18 years. She was a Jehovah Witness. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Juniata Memorial Park with the Minister, Elder Kurt McKinney, officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., is in charge of arrangements.

Norma C. Clouser
PORT ROYAL - Norma C. Clouser, 74, of Port Royal and formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born Oct. 2, 1927, in Hershey, she was the daughter of the late Otello and Josephine (Fossati) Cappelli. Her husband, Harold R. "Doodle" Clouser, preceded her in death on June 9, 2000. She is survived by a niece, nephew and two great-nephews. She is the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Otello Cappelli Jr. She was a 1946 graduate of Hershey High School. She was a LPN and worked as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Old-Fashioned Baptist Church, Yeagertown. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mifflintown Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Leonard Coates officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday, at the funeral home.
